Darwin Correspondence Online
2007-06-12 03:44:00
The Darwin Correspondence Project is now making Charles Darwin's correspondence with some 2000 people available online. From the site:Darwin's correspondence provides us with an invaluable source of information, not only about his own intellectual development and social network, but about Victorian science and society in general. They provide a remarkably complete picture of the development of his thinking, throwing light on his early formative years and the years of the voyage of the Beagle, on the period which led up to the publication of The Origin of Species and the subsequent heated debates. The first available section is entitled "Darwin and Religion," which includes "Design in Nature," "Belief," "Ethics and Society," and the "Boundaries of Science and Religion." The "Darwin and Science" section of this project is still is under preparation.Charles Darwin at 51 [source]© 2007 Mark R. Stoneman

There are a lot of history blogs. One award-winning example is by military historian Mark Grimsley, Blog Them Out of the Stone Age. Recently I learned about a blog on counter-culture, Stepterix, from its author, Kevin Grieves. There is a huge list of blogs at the History News Network: Cliopatria's History Blogroll. Till now I have not explored many history blogs. I have not run into any directly relevant to my research, although I cannot say I have looked very hard. Blogs were not part of my training, and historians tend to communicate through other channels anyway, especially journals, newsletters, conferences, and H-Net: Humanities and Social Sciences Online. Furthermore, I have confined my search for teaching resources on the internet to primary sources, online exhibits, and historically informed movie reviews. I am not sure how I could use history blogs as a teaching tool. Still, that is no reason to ignore the potential of blogs. With some effort and the judicious use of RSS s...

History on NPR

NPR has been offering some informative series that address history relevant to today's major conflicts. As a specialist in European history, I am always grateful for shows that cover other parts of the world. Their quality is generally good. Moreover, I have heard people on both the left and right accuse them of being biased, which is a good sign. While I am sure some experts have criticisms, the rest of us have to start somewhere. Here is a small selection, because I have not found an NPR page devoted to all their history programs. The Six Day War: 40 Years On --- Five-part NPR series that was broadcast on Morning Edition the week of June 4-8, 2007. Right now the series is in reverse chronological order, so you need to scroll to the bottom of the page to start.Earlier in 2007 they broadcast The Partisans of Ali: A History of Shia Faith and Politics. From 2002, is The Mideast: A Century of Conflict: A Seven-Part Series Traces the Israeli-Palestinian Dispute.© 2007 Mark R.
