Wide awake
2007-10-27 08:39:00
It's almost 3:00 a.m. and I'm wide awake. My mind is just pre-occupied. Hubby has been snoozing since 11:00 p.m. because he's probably just spent from his work-out in the gym. Otherwise, he'd be up with me even at this hour. Most of the days when he's off from work, he really tries hard to keep up with "the night owl". He's been going to the gym everyday since Tuesday so, I have nobody for company at this wee hour of the morning. It sure is going to be another 1:00 p.m. wake up time for me. It's just annoying when you can't sleep, so instead of lying in bed it's a lot better to just be up and get busy.Oh well, I just hope I won't get a headache again.

Yes, another October celebrant and this is gonna be the last for the month. It's the 18th birthday of my niece, Elise. How time flies. Seem like it was only yesterday when she didn't even want to wear dresses and skirts, or anything "too girlie". Now, she's into all the feminine stuff that girls and women love. Happy birthday, Elise!

iPod shuffle on eBay
2007-10-26 00:09:00
My husband was a happy camper yesterday. He was so excited as he closed on his first sale on eBay. I didn't know it was that exciting to see the bidding come to an end.Frank registered with eBay more than a year ago but didn't really go for anything. He set up his account with the idea of selling some of his Sports Cards collection. Remember this post on this blog?So for fun I think 8 days ago, he listed on eBay an un-opened, factory sealed iPod Shuffle that we have here at home. He didn't have any single bid for the first 5 days, so we thought that was it. Three days ago though, one potential buyer placed a bid for the minimum price he was asking for which was $55. At the very last day of bidding, bids started to pour in and we ended with 14 bids, the highest bid of which was $70.62.Finally the iPod Shuffle is gone. We sent out the item to the winner today. That was a good preliminary selling experience for Frank. Now, he's all fired up and encouraged to list his collection of ...

Question
2007-10-26 00:08:00
Juliana, my namesake, a blogger friend, forwarded me this question. Yes it's another meme, what can I tell you? Here goes...if you only have 24 more hours to live and you can do anything you want in the world, what would you do?My answer: That 24 hours is sure not going to be enough for me. But being that you're so STRICT (pwede extension?), I will try to do what's on this list as fast as I can.eat all kinds of food that I used to deprived myself of, for fear of gaining too much weight.I will take my last pampering bath(probably be on a jacuzzi leisurely for 2 hours).go to church and talk to my God.spend the rest of that 24 hours with my one and only love. Thanks Juliana, next time, don't be too strict with me hehehe. This is it for today...in My World.

Headache
2007-10-25 03:21:00
I had a headache all day today. It just won't go away even after the usual meds I'm used to taking--Aleve. I haven't had this for quite sometime. I guess, it's because of lack of sleep but I think the best way to state it is: it's because I've been turning in so late. Last night, I went to bed at 2:30 a.m. I had my full 8 hours of sleep but as they say, nothing compares to sleeping at night. Come to think about it, I really didn't sleep last night, I slept this morning ha..ha..ha.Now, should I wonder why this headache just won't go away?

It's a Sony...
2007-10-25 02:35:00
Do you remember when Sony Corporation came up with the slogan and embellished their TV's with: It's a Sony...? Yeah, those were the days, in the 80's I believe. I guess, that strategy worked because they had that campaign for quite awhile. Why am I writing about this, you're probably wondering. Just to let you know, I'm not getting paid, people. My husband is a Sony lover. I wish I can post a picture of his 18 year old Sony 27" TV(those black colored ones) but I don't have a pic of it. That dear old TV of Frank died a year ago. It just simply went black one night as I was watching. Frank wanted to get a new one when we moved 3 years ago, but I firmly said no. I wanted to keep the old piece, it was still working. The deal was, he'll replace it when it dies. So when it turned black that fateful night all he could say was: "there's a God!", meaning God finally answered his wish.As fast as lightning, we head out to get a replacement. We bought and take it home just that one trip ...
Magazine subscriptions
2007-10-25 02:18:00
Do you ever wonder how these magazine publishing companies don't get tired of sending subscription offers? Of course, we know they have to do that to generate business.I'm just swamped with these offers every single day, and shredding these junk has become an added chore for me.Like I want one more magazine to subscribe to? Currently, I already have 21 magazines coming in every month. To date, I'm only up to issues in August. Oh well, I'll get there. I just wish, I'm reading the current issues. I really don't know when I'll get to the current issues. I stay home alright, but I also do chores in the house. There's just not enough time. Like last Monday, because I was forced to get up early, I was able to accomplish a lot. And did I mention I was able to do 7 scrapbook layouts? I'm happy about that because believe it or not, I'm still doing the scrapbook from our renewal of vows held in Manila in 2005. Although, we have the digital album c/o our official photographer, I stil...

Better half
2007-10-24 01:07:00
Hey Francine, makulit ka, but you're sweet kaya sige na. Anyway, I'm game for it.This tag is simple. If you feel comfortable and your better half does too, you can post a picture of him in your blog ( but if not a description will do). It can be a baby picture or anything that you like with the following:1. First name: if he doesn’t like his name plastered all over the internet, a pet name will do.2. How and where did you meet?3. Characteristics4. Your plans 20 to 30 years from now.First of all, Frank's name and face is plastered all over this blog, hence posting his picture is irrelevant, right? My husband is not camera shy. Getting him to pose all the time is really easy(o say nyo?).It was really meant to be and bound to happen when we met. It was one of those usual 30 day break from work when I met him. Coming to the US then, was my fave vacation and New York for me was the best US destination because of the allure of shopping. I knew him through my sister, whose been living...

Villeroy & Boch
2007-10-24 00:09:00
Entertaining guests, or having people over is not an easy task. It sure is not considered a task if you enjoy being around the people you like and you love. At this day and age though, when we think fast and hassle free is the mantra, we would normally serve guests using our finest paper/disposable plates and cutlery. After all, we now have Chinet (supposedly the fine kind of disposable brand). For me though, with much respect to those that serve their guests using their finest disposables( to each his own, right?), I find it kind of improper to use disposables when I have guests over. I maybe old fashioned, but it's just the way I want to do it.I invite guests over, because they are important to me. And being that they are dear and important, they deserve to be treated the best way I possibly can. Thus, when we have guests, instead of using our everyday tableware, and silverware taking out my finer pieces from the credenza is in order. I love to use my Ville roy & Boch Switch 3 ...

Early Monday
2007-10-22 18:37:00
I had to drag myself out of the bed at 7:00 a.m. today. The reason? Maintenance work on a 10" pipe that controls water distribution in our complex has to be replaced thus, we have no water supply for 5 to 6 hours. I wanted to have an early breakfast and shower before the water is shut off at 9:00 a.m.As I'm writing this post, I'm already done with one of the chore I had set myself out to do, that is - to put away our summer footwear and clothes and pull out our cold weather gear. I have put off doing this chore for the past two weeks mainly due to the fact that the weather has been unseasonably warm. I had to do it now though, because the weather is not gonna get any warmer. By the end of this week, if I go by the weather forecast it will be in the 50's. Good thing is, I already picked up from storage at the cleaners the dry-cleaned coats, jackets and scarves. It took me two and a half hours to complete this task, and that is only for the two of us. I don't know, but for some re...

Christmas or New Year?
2007-10-21 21:26:00
Kathy tagged me, and she wants to know which of the two holidays I prefer more.Hmmm, pretty tough, but I think I can very well rationalize and tell you why New Year is "it" for me.All my life, prior to getting married, I celebrated both holidays the conventional way, as most Pinoys do. After marriage though, and living in the US, celebrating the two holidays drastically changed. My husband, as you may know by now, if you've been tuned in to this journal for quite a while, is practicing the Jewish religion. I shouldn't even say "practicing" because he's not after all a religious Jew or an Orthodox Jew. He does the bare minimum and as form of respect to the Jewish religion, he just observe the high holidays in the Jewish calendar by being off from work. Yeah, and they don't celebrate Christmas . They have their own holiday equivalent to Christmas, called Hanukkah or festival of lights. It's a week long celebration where kids receive gifts every night of the seven nights after the c...
Les Miserables
2007-10-21 04:00:00
We just came home from Manhattan. It was a long day, but it was well worth it.We arrived at Broadway about 1:15 p.m. for the 2:00 p.m. matinee and the line was so long. Soon enough the long line was already moving, a signal that people were already allowed entry into Broadhurst Theater. The theater was filled to the rafters. We were seated in Orchestra and I really loved it because we saw every single facial expression of the performers. It's great to be seated close enough to the stage.Lea Salonga as always was awesome. The depth and good quality of her voice hasn't changed. The last time we saw her was during her stint with Flower Drum Song. The rest of the casts were also very good. Really a show that's very well worth every penny spent.Oh, and I can tell you too, that Lea was very accommodating. You're probably expecting that it would have been me requesting for a photograph with her, but you're very well mistaken. Here's the proof: Frank unshaven and all w/ LeaHere's som...

Time goes by so fast. Who would have thought that as of today, this post is my 107th. I wasn't aware I have published that much posts already. I certainly enjoy writing on this on-line journal, and I hope I'll keep up with my momentum.By the way, I'm posting this late because we just came home from Long Island. It was my nephew's 17th birthday and we all went out to Minado, a Japanese restaurant. Sorry, I was just too lazy to take pictures, as I was pre-occupied with my food. It was a buffet dinner and the food was so yummy. My sister and her family are regulars in this place and really, they got good reasons why they keep going back. We truly enjoyed the company and why not, if it's accompanied with good food too. Again, Happy Birthday, Ted!This is it for today...in My World.
New York homes
2007-09-29 23:51:00
Just wanted to share some little known facts about New York real estate:Prices of homes (this includes all types of residences) have significantly dropped in the last 6 months. This means, the value of homes if they were on the market right now are also affected. The booming market is now a thing of the past. Analysts are predicting that this trend will continue towards the end of 2008.During the real estate boom, NY was one of the places where home prices badly needed price correction. Home prices soared like crazy, that then, a $500,000 home was a handy man special. My sister bought a house in Long Island in 1999 for $210,000. It was still the buyers market then. Between 2001 to 2005 the same house was already being valued at $400,000. This value is indicated by the annual document they receive every year, which also indicates the cost of real estate insurance for the incoming year. Currently, in the area where she's at, homes on the market priced in the $500,ooo mark have been sit...

Question and answer

Irel started a question and answer tag. She has a question that I should answer and I in turn will ask her a new question which she will answer. The question is:How true is it that body builders have small penis? My answer:Honestly, I have no idea. Malay ko ba, I haven't seen one hahaha. But seriously, I watched an episode on the Oprah show one time and Dr. Oz was her guest. In that particular airing, Dr. Oz mentioned that the fatter the man, the smaller the penis. Now, I wonder if the theory is the same with the size of the penis of a body builder. My question:Why is it that when someone sneeze, the person close by almost always say: "God bless you" ?Anyone interested to answer aside from Irel?

Purchase or lease?
2007-09-29 05:32:00
On our way out of the dealership (maintenance department) of Honda today, we saw a 2008 Honda Accord parked in front of the dealership. The nosy girl in me, I went ahead and looked how the interiors look like. From out of the blue, a woman came by and asked if this was indeed the 2008 model. I told her it is and she also took a quick peek inside the car.She told us, she's shopping for a new car and she's considering another Honda. Apparently, the lease to her car is up(leases usually end in 3 years) so she needs a replacement. She's considering leasing again and she went on and on telling us why leasing is good. To her, leasing is the way to go because of the low monthly payments. After the conversation with her, I couldn't help but talk to Frank about the pros and cons of leasing. At the end of our little conversation, we still both believe in owning-- meaning buying the car outright. Why? Because we both think, leasing is like giving away your money. You'll never stop paying m...

My baby
2007-09-29 05:00:00
Tomorrow, September 29 is my baby's 4th birthday. Do I sound crazy? To some they might think I am really crazy, but we call our car Cordie, and to me she's my baby, because although I'm not the man in the family, I am the one taking care of her most of the time. My husband works 5 days a week and commutes to Manhattan via subway everyday, so most of the time, I am the one in-charge of maintenance schedules needed for the car and of course, I use the car more often than him.Cordie's turning 4 and today, we brought her to the dealership(service department) for its annual NY State Emission Inspection and regular tune-up. I scheduled the appointment before we left for Aruba and as always, whenever I bring her for tune-up, there's the dilemma of what or which maintenance schedule to perform and follow because of the low mileage to date which is only 8,570 miles. This is just way below the regular expected mileage of a 4 year old car.Time went by so fast. We bought this baby Septembe...

Finally back home, and as expected, it was a hectic day. The good thing is, jet lag's not a problem because the time zone in Aruba is the same as New York. It's 5 hours flying time but for some reason the time is the same.We went to our eye specialist for our annual eye check-up and it took us forever waiting to be taken in. It was a mistake booking this appointment, scheduled that soon after we're back from the trip, but there could not have been a better time because F will be back to work on Monday. He's actually done with all his doctor's appointments for his annual check-up. His two and a half weeks vacation allowed him to do everything. So, I'm back to work, household stuff, I mean. Tons of laundry, supermarket shopping, wheewwww!!!. This is life in the USA sans live-in househelp. Miss ko na talaga ang Pinas. My husband has been suggesting for years to hire a live-out house cleaner every week, but I'm not giving in although, it would make my load a little lighter. The ...
