The Miseducation of the Negro Revisited
2008-02-03 04:54:00 Its amazing how a book written in 1933 about the destruction of Black Americans is still freshly applicable today. Amazing, and embarrasing. Many say that we as Black Americans are getting better, but the problems that plagued us almost 100 years ago persist today. The Miseducation of the Negro , written by Dr. Carter Woodson, described how the plight of our people at the time was the result of a process of miseducation imposed upon us by our oppressors (see: white people). For instance "At a Negro summer school two years ago, a white instructor gave a course on the Negro, using for his text a work that teaches whites are superior to blacks", and "In medical schools Negroes were likewise convinced of their inferiority in being reminded of their role as germ carriers". He believed this miseducation led to our poor state of affairs. They must show that they believe in something with conviction. The public has grown tired of professional politicians." But this is nothing new. The desire for authenticity in leaders comes and goes in cycles. John F. Kennedy benefited from this hunger and he also knew how to exploit it to maximum effect. He was not fake, but he could be a consummate actor when necessary. Andrew Jackson was perhaps our first great politician to use this dynamic to gain power. 2007-12-04 04:18:00 Of all the people I come across while I am in uniform, I seem to draw the harshest responses from Black people. Is it that blacks are less patriotic than other races? Even hispanics hold my uniform in high regard. And now that I think back, of all the Marines I have known of that have been separated from the military, 2 out of three have also been black. Separation from the military is no easy task. It usually happens because you have personally done something (such as drug use or playing crazy). Now why is that? I was driving through an apartment complex near my home and noticed that the parking lot was full of escalades and high status vehicles. However, this apartment complex was the rattiest in the area. Why is it that black people invest so much money in the things that dont matter, but none in the things that do?
