The Black Panthers and United Black America
2008-12-09 01:51:00
United Black America is in its infancy. Literally. We are an organization at the ground floor, with much growing, learning, and evolution to do. Part of that evolution is finding out where we (organizationally) come from, and there is no way that we can do that without observing the Black Panther Party. The Black Panthers For 10 years the Black Panther Party for Self Defense showed post-civil rights movement blacks what a black society could be - self sustaining, education oriented, and non-violent without sacrifice of strength. Newton called on the Panthers to "serve the people" and to make "survival programs" a priority within its branches. The most famous and successful of their programs was the Free Breakfast for Children Program, initially run out of an Oakland church. The Ten Point Program 1. We want power to determine the destiny of our black and oppressed communities' education that teaches us our true history and our role in the present-day society. 2. We want completely fr...

Superhead on Campus
2008-11-27 04:19:00
WTF qualifies Superhead , aka Karrine Steffans, to give speeches on college campuses across the country? Why are institutions of higher learning fielding this self professed super-groupie? Is this REALLY where we want to take some knowledge from? Think about it, this is a woman whose only claim to fame is the roster of celebrities she has done the nasty with. Not only that, but Im seein this hoe on what I thought were respectable magazines! CTFO People!!!

Black Curtain Philosophy
2008-11-27 04:12:00
Symphony selection committees used to have potential orchestra members try out behind a black curtain. The best sounding candidate got the position. Not based on color or age, simply on performance without the performer being seen. This philosophy, not affirmative action, should be implemented with employee or student selection (resumes or college applications with no names, to nil ethnic name bias) determining what candidates are given preferred positions. What do yall think?

Repost: Creating the African-American Superman
2008-11-20 04:43:00
A History of Der Huxtable's ReignBill Cosby absorbed quite a bit of flak for criticizing the media creation of "black culture" for endorsing gangsta behavior, obscenity, laziness and selfishness. Far smarter than the average person, Cosby represents the prototype of a new African -American : the intelligent and mobile critical thinker.Suppose for a moment that Bill Cosby used his millions to buy up a cable network and create a new kind of black propaganda. "We will create the African-American Superman ," Cosby says, "who will replace this tedious gangsta rap baggy-pants culture with something better."Overwhelmingly, he is elected. His first move is to seize all black press establishments and entertainment outlets. "Only the best media for our youth," he says to wild cheers. "We're going to keep the poisonous usurpers out." Next he takes over the educational system, designing a uniform and a challenging curriculum for black schools.Cosby socializes most industries among the African-Am...

Revolt
2008-11-19 01:34:00
We are a nation of people without a true home, and we are hopeless in that fact. That, I believe, is the reason why so many are so ready to identify with Africa. But I resist such identifications. From the color of our skin to the food we eat and the desires that we possess, we are so different from Africans that to tell our children and ourselves that we have a direct link to the African continent by any other means than watered down bloodlines is a flat out lie. The truth remains that we are American whether we like it or not, and we are black. We are Black Americans, not African Americans, and its NOT a matter of semantics!Let us also not make the mistake of believing that we have some kind of stake in this country, or that assimilation would serve our best interests. We want the ability to secure the financial futures of generations of Black Americans. That is in our best interests. Can we achieve that as a whole as normal Americans? No. If we could, we would have. That dream has be...

Newbies: How to Subscribe to Your Favorite Sites
2008-11-15 17:20:00
So I have been getting alot of questions as far as how to subscribe to a website (namely this one, I hope!) Well here's a quick tutorial on how to follow pages and sites that you like. 1. Get a Feed Reader A Feed Reader is like an electronic newspaper. It goes out, collects new updates from sites that you like, and displays them to you all in one place in list form. With a feed reader, you dont have to spend time going to cnn.com, unitedblackamerica.com, and bet.com, you simply log into your Feed Reader and all your new updates are there in a list! I personally use Bloglines.com, but Google has a feed reader as well. There are alot of great ones out there (NewzCrawler,FeedDemon,Omea Reader,NewsGator Online Services), so find one the you like and roll with it. 2. Find the RSS button RSS stands for ?Really Simple Syndication?, its a ?news feed? that you subscribe to. The RSS button is located in the address bar, the place where you type in the website you are trying to visit, to t...

Throwback Thursday: Shaka Zulu
2008-11-13 02:40:00
So Im a big fan of Black Cult Classics (A cult film is a filmthat has acquired a highly devoted but relatively small group of fans). So to change things up from my usual hot-headed ranting, I give you Throwback Thursday s; reviews of some classics you might have never heard of or dont remember that are worth watching. I will also include video clips if I can dig some up or upload them. If you digg them, head over to Amazon by following my links and piick them up for the low low. So without further ado, this Thursday's selecti0on is the TV series Shaka Zulu , not to be confused with Zulu from 1964 or the remake Shaka Zulu: The Citadel (2001). This 4 part series was produced and aired on regular T.V. in 1986 and I can remember watching every single episode as a little boy. It tells the story of the rise of Shaka, a warrior prophesied to lead and unite the Zulu nation. Shaka Zulu was born in 1787 as the illegitimate son of Senzangakona, chief of the Zulu clan at that time. As a kid, hes...
Thoughts on the new President
2008-11-12 00:13:00
So alot of pundits and conservative opponents of Obama are wondering how President Obama will govern, and are smacking their lips in anticipation of bad news on day one of his Presidency. How much more does this man need to accomplish?! He has run arguably one of the most successful and disciplined campaigns in historyHe has already shown prudence in selecting Rahm Israel Emanuel as his Chief of Staff. President Obama is no doubt a visionary, and as a visionary myself, I know that such men have a tendency to avoid the details. Mr Emanuel is the perfect offset for this trait. His "take-no-prisoners attitude" earned him the nickname "Rahm-bo" in Chicago. He has already shown us his principles. He is a man who places his family above all, doesnt back down from legitimate criticism, and refuses to smear others for the sake of political gain. When Governor Palin's daughter became pregnant, Obama said. "I think people's families are off-limits, and people's children are especially off-...

Secrets of Barack Obama's Success
2008-11-11 00:47:00
Im a fan of another site called Ask Men, and they recently published an article on some things we can earn from the success of Barack Obama. So rather than rant and rave, I thought I would repost is here with pics I inserted, and maybe even create some new Ask Men fans;Success Tips From Barack Obama One of the most important and momentous presidential elections in U.S. history has passed, and the American people have made a historical choice in Barack Obama. A variety of his positions and decisions influenced his successful campaign for the U.S. presidency, and although the stakes may differ, they are not beyond the usefulness of our readership. Rather, Obama?s success presents a handful of valuable tips every man can apply to his professional life in an effort to help him achieve his goals. And on that note, we present success tips from Barack Obama.Embrace technologyHistory may look back on Obama?s decision to understand -- and effectively utilize -- the fluid technology of th...

The Trickle-Down Effect
2008-10-27 01:33:00
This is a piggyback on my last blog post.Black women are the fastest growing segment of the population when it comes to incarceration rates as well as HIV/AIDS new reported cases.Since this country was founded on racism AND sexism, black women catch hell on both fronts (even if neither of these isms are obvious, the residuals are there). But the resulting hell that our women are catching are part of the Trickle-Down Effect . That is, because of the state of black men, black women also suffer. We are all tied together. Black man goes to jail leaving black woman to hold down the house. Less income means fewer resources and, occasionally, desperation and depression. In good environments, the children bear witness to this and either learn to value education, enterprise, and good citizenship to avoid entering this cycle of destruction and rescue his/her family. In less than favorable environments, environments where the trap boys and dope boys run the streets and becoming hood celebritie...
Dad, Redefined
2008-10-25 16:58:00
Over the past year, The Washington Post has run a series of articles titled Being a Black Man which seeks to "explore what it means to be a black man in today's society." According to the series web site, "black men often feel caught between individual achievements and collective failures, defined more by their images in popular culture than their lived experiences.""Dad, Redefined" dealt with the question "What does a daddy do?" and focused on Tim Waggoner, Donne McDaniel and their son, Zyhir. Waggoner says he and McDaniel are just friends and have no plans to marry. Waggoner pays no child support but does help look after Zyhir. Waggoner says the "most important" thing for him as a father is to "just be here." McDaniel works, and Waggoner is enrolled in a DC-run job program helping him work towards a GED.The Post article reported that 69 percent of black children are currently born to single mothers - a rate more than twice the national average - and 48 percent of black chil...
Fox Turns on Colin Powell
2008-10-22 01:43:00
Fox news used to love Colin Powell , back when he was a good GOP house nigger. But now Fox News has turned on Colin Powell, saying he was implicit in getting us into war in the first place, saying he, not G.W. failed to reach out to our enemies, saying that no Muslim or terrorist ties have been suggested of Barack Obama. What?!?! If there is leadership that I trust most of all amongst politicians, if there is wisdom that I am guided by as a military man most of all, it is that of Colin Powell, and for them to attempt to make a victim of the Bush regime into the very cause of the war in Iraq is more than untrue, it is disgustingly false. As a Swarzenegger democrat who used to be a big fan of Fox news, whose met and talked with Mr Bill Oreilly on several occasions, I am now once and for all leaving the republican party, I will refuse to watch fox news, I will buy and burn the books of Hanity, Oreilly, van Sustren, Limbaugh, Hugh Hewitt, and the whole lynch mob. God Bless America, and ...
ACTIVISM MEANS ACTIVITY!
2008-07-26 15:36:00
According to NPR, there are over a million black blogs out there. CNN just finished their already acclaimed two-fer, Black in America. Lotta good stuff out there to read and watch. But nobody's doin shit as usual.Alot of black bloggers out there call themselves activists. Activism denotes activity in support of the aims you seek to accomplish. Activism doesnt mean talking, blogging, or singing. In the words of one of our fathers, in activism, "You don't do any singing; you're too busy swinging."Stop blogging as a form of activism. We are all preaching to the choir.Instead, here are 9 things all of us as Afro-elitist (in thought at least) bloggers can do to swing the pendulum in favor of a more unted Black America.1. GET INVOLVED WITH THE 50 MILLION POUND CHALLENGE. IF YOU (LIKE ME) ARE BLESSED WITH A GREAT BODY (lmao!), FIND A RELATIVE OR CO-WORKER AND GET THEM INVOLVED!2. VOLUNTEER AT YOUR LOCAL MIDDLE OR HIGH SCHOOL. OFFER TO TEACH CLASSES ON PROFESSIONALISM. WORK WITH THE DELI...

So awhile ago I started this convo at NUDE AFRICA(great site btw, but has adult content). I was diggin thru som old files and thought I would trow it up here. So what would YOU do if you were President of Black America ? By pinkroses on Thursday, December 21, 2006 - 05:04 pm: 1. I would have many initiatives aimed at repairing the Black family (fatherhood initiatives, etc.) 2. I would fund special "academies" for black 3. males who cannot make it in traditional schools. AIDS Awareness and Education 4. I would begin a big push towards healthier living styles for Blacks. 5. Homeownership initiatives 6. A massive return to society transition program for those entering society from prisons so that they can rejoin the workforce and assume parenting roles of their children. By ananamouslynyc on Thursday, December 21, 2006 - 05:05 pm: my plan would be to hold a big press conference and let the world know that black people aint marching no more we saving our energy for fighting we would ...
Blacks and Independence Day
2008-07-04 14:50:00
I ,for one, don't celebrate Independence Day. The holiday has no significance to me other than the fact that it commemorates the birth of the wolf-in-sheeps-clothing that brought my ancestors to this part of the world. The only "Independence Day " that I celebrate is Juneteenth. If you dont have any idea what Im talking about, heres a shorty on the holiday from Juneteenth.comJuneteenth is the oldest nationally celebrated commemoration of the ending of slavery in the United States. From its Galveston, Texas origin in 1865, the observance of June 19th as the African American Emancipation Day has spread across the United States and beyond.Today Juneteenth commemorates African American freedom and emphasizes education and achievement. It is a day, a week, and in some areas a month marked with celebrations, guest speakers, picnics and family gatherings. It is a time for reflection and rejoicing. It is a time for assessment, self-improvement and for planning the future. Its growing popular...

Lift Every Voice and Sing
2008-07-02 21:41:00
Huge controversy stirred up today when at the start of Denver Mayor John Hickenlooper's annual State of the City address yesterday morning, singer Rene Marie was introduced to perform the national anthem.Instead, she performed the song "Lift Every Voice and Sing ," which is also known as the "black national anthem". Why is this significant? Denver is where the Democratic National Convention will be held on August 25th, so this event is viewed as a precursor to Obama's appearance there. I gotta admit, this was a case of terrible artistic expression, drawing more divisiveness and alienating Obama's white supporters. Why should we care about what wite people think in this instance? Because WE NEED THEIR VOTES TO ELECT OBAMA! Besides, Obama is running to be everyones President, not just us black folk- and we should recognize that we WILL NOT have an advocate in the White House, and never will. The only time that we should rejoice over an ascendant figure is if that person steps forwar...
Enemies of a United Black America Part 1
2008-06-19 00:56:00
If theres any one single enemy of United Black America , its niggers (see my previous post on this subject). I will illustrate:One of my principles is to always help a black (or woman) in need as long as it doesnt compromise my ability to help other black men (or women) in need in the future, and as long as its feasible. A few years back, I had a two bedroom apartment. My girlfriend at the time and I lived in one room, while I used the other room as an office. When my girlfriend mentioned that her best friend had ran into some trouble in her hometown, I allowed my girlfriend to move her best friend into the other room. Upon moving in, I spelled out a few basic terms of her stay. 1) No drugs (period), and no smoking in the house. 2) No men unless they are mutual friends. 3) Clean up after yourself, and a few other basic rules designed to keep everyone happy and safe. And for a time, things were good. Then came the men. Yes,...men.Plural. She would get involved with many men fairly q...

Men without a Country
2008-05-10 18:41:00
One of the biggest barriers to us, as Black men and women, coming together permanently is the fact that we have no country to call our own. We have no economy that we can solely take responsibility for, and thereby gain collective wealth from. We have no sovereignity, meaning we cannot stand up an armed force in defense of our people. We havent our own legal system or police force, that removes the wall of protection from those who would seek to do us harm based solely on the color of our skin, or the fact that we are inherently different from other races-a difference that they would classify as threatening, or to protect us from the more violent members of our race. I was never a fan of the idea of Reparations in the form of a check or an apology from the United States. But........True justice would be if we as a people were given back a part of the country that we helped build, a part of the land that we tilled. Florida, Georgia, and Alabama would be all the reparations we would n...

Financial Empowerment
2008-04-15 18:06:00
During this campaign season, one of the key issues is the economy. Talks of a recession are circulating amongst pundits and and armchair economists. What is a looming recession to our white counterparts is a full-blown depression for some Black Americans. Our foreclosure rates are higher, since we are more likely to carry adjustable rate mortgages, and gas prices have driven up the price of all kinds of goods. For those Black Americans who have focused on building a solid financial base vice "investing" in bling, rims, and the club culture, these rainy days wont become floods.Coming out of school, much like most new graduates, I knew nothing about how to build a sound financial base, but after trial, error, missed opportunities, and guidance from the financially successful, here are 4 ways all of us can move from a position of financial weakness to strengthSaveIf you arent saving for a particular reason (like buying a house, or retirement), you should at least have an emergency savi...

The Rush Limbaugh Factor
2008-03-09 01:44:00
If you read my last post, you will recall that I listen to a lot of talk radio. I spend a lot of time on the road, and since 96.5 feels the need to play that apple-bottom jeans song repeatedly, I have few other options. So I was listening to one of my former favorites, Rush Limbaugh , and he was telling us (his listening audience) to go and "pimp your vote" for Hillary in Super Tuesday II. Now, had I brought this up before the elections in Ohio and Texas, you might have said "so what?" But hindsight is 20/20, and Hillary's unexpected victory can now be accounted for. Rush himself even gloats over his victory on his websiteAs I witnessed all this unfold, I felt overcome by a wave of nausea. A man that I moderately respected played puppet-master with all his mostly conservative white listening audience by instructing them to ensure the confusion on the Democrat side continues by keeping Hillary in the race.
