One of the biggest barriers to us, as Black men and women, coming together permanently is the fact that we have no country to call our own. We have no economy that we can solely take responsibility for, and thereby gain collective wealth from. We have no sovereignity, meaning we cannot stand up an armed force in defense of our people. We havent our own legal system or police force, that removes the wall of protection from those who would seek to do us harm based solely on the color of our skin, or the fact that we are inherently different from other races-a difference that they would classify as threatening, or to protect us from the more violent members of our race. If you read my last post, you will recall that I listen to a lot of talk radio. I spend a lot of time on the road, and since 96.5 feels the need to play that apple-bottom jeans song repeatedly, I have few other options. The Miseducation of the Negro Revisited

Its amazing how a book written in 1933 about the destruction of Black Americans is still freshly applicable today. Amazing, and embarrasing. Many say that we as Black Americans are getting better, but the problems that plagued us almost 100 years ago persist today.  The Miseducation of the Negro , written by Dr. Carter Woodson, described how the plight of our people at the time was the result of a process of miseducation imposed upon us by our oppressors (see: white people). For instance "At a Negro summer school two years ago, a white instructor gave a course on the Negro, using for his text a work that teaches whites are superior to blacks", and "In medical schools Negroes were likewise convinced of their inferiority in being reminded of their role as germ carriers". In looking at this election cycle, pundits have been talking about the importance of authenticity. "It is fatal for a politician to look fake. They must show that they believe in something with conviction. The public has grown tired of professional politicians." But this is nothing new. The desire for authenticity in leaders comes and goes in cycles. John F. Kennedy benefited from this hunger and he also knew how to exploit it to maximum effect. He was not fake, but he could be a consummate actor when necessary. Andrew Jackson was perhaps our first great politician to use this dynamic to gain power. Plies had a concert in Louisville this past weekend. Between songs, he asked the crowd of (primarily) women "Who here give da best head?" These stupid ass hoodrats start cawing and squawking "ME!! ME!! ME!!!!!!" They fought between each other right in front of this sorry nigger for the right to climb up on stage and suck on his fingers as proof that she could give the best head. Are you freakin' serious? What is happening here? How has this behavior gotten to the point of being a socially acceptable norm?!?! As far as I am concerned, the negative influence of these Jiggaboos in music is undeniable. Observe: While watching Bill O'Reilly (im a big former fan, met the man a few times) he sounds off a list of things detrimental to society; the glorification of sex, a decline in personal resonsibility, and rap music. The first two I understand...the last one?...I thought Death Metal and hate music was just as bad. Maybe I am wrong. I dont promote any form of media that promotes vicious acts against innocent people, or drug addiction, etc...but do we single out a part of black subculture and not white? Of all the people I come across while I am in uniform, I seem to draw the harshest responses from Black people. Is it that blacks are less patriotic than other races? Even hispanics hold my uniform in high regard. And now that I think back, of all the Marines I have known of that have been separated from the military, 2 out of three have also been black. Separation from the military is no easy task. It usually happens because you have personally done something (such as drug use or playing crazy). Now why is that? I was driving through an apartment complex near my home and noticed that the parking lot was full of escalades and high status vehicles. However, this apartment complex was the rattiest in the area. Why is it that black people invest so much money in the things that dont matter, but none in the things that do? Why is it that during the Imus debacle, we black Americans didnt turn on our own culture that serves as the most prominent negative example of ourselves to the world?...
