U.S. Senate Passes Bill Recapturing 61,000 Schedule A Visas

RETROGRESSION UPDATEHammond Law Group reported today, in its website, that the U.S. senate formally passed and added a bridge amendment to the Labor Health and Human Services appropriations bill.The amendment calls for 61,000 visas for Schedule A occupations and their immediate family members. Employers will need to pay a Training Fee of $1,500 for each nurse immigrant. Certain healthcare facilities can have the fee waived. There is also a provision that calls for nurses to attest that they don't owe their native country any financial obligations. The registration for the second Special Nursing Review Classes initiated by the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) for the voluntary retake examinations of the equivalent of Tests III and V of the Nursing Licensure Examination of 2006 started Today, September 25, 2007....Labor and Employment Secretary Arturo D. A dozen filipino nurses, working as senior carers, in Cambridge, United Kingdom face possible deportation after the Home Office refused to renew their work permits according to a report by the Cambridge Evening News.Home Office officials also announced they will no longer issue work permits to foreign nationals for senior carer positions after the position has been taken off the list of shortage occupations. "We treat each work permit renewal on a case-by-case basis and cannot comment on individual cases. BoN: 'Examination results will be out by August'

Marco Sto. Tomas, member of the Board of Nursing (BoN) tasked to prepare and oversee the administration of the Nurse Licensure Examination , today said that the results of the recently concluded nursing board exam will probably be out by August 15 - 31, 2007.The labor department earlier said that they will be releasing the exam results three (3) weeks after the conduct of the exam last June 10 and 11.Sto. Tomas explained that the delay is primarily due to the large number of examinees this year.
