Miss A's Sunflower is No More :(
2007-06-10 00:00:00
This album is powered by BubbleShare - Add to my blog Alas, it was the victim of the weedwacker tonight. It was sad, too because it was the best growing sunflower we had going and I took extra care of it. I think I am more sad than Miss A. When told about the news of what happened to her sunflower, she took one look at it and said, "It's okay, it's not cut all the way down." Now, how adorable is that?!?!?!

Cantaloupes Ahoy!
2007-06-10 00:00:00
FINALLY got some action out of the cantaloupes! Sprouts are coming through the ground and since I can't remember exactly where I planted them, it is all the more exciting. :) The peas are also going to town. This garden looks promising and I am looking forward to enjoying the produce of all this loving care. I can see why people like to garden. It is very relaxing and satisfying. I like pulling weeds, getting the leaves and sticks out. Watering is pretty boring, but I do like the ground to not be crumbly, so I water real quick in the morning and a little at night. That way I don't have to do it for very long and get eaten by mosquitoes. Oh! I almost forgot! I finally planted some marigolds around my tomato plants. They will turn into bushes by the end of summer. Don't let their skimpy size fool you! Four around each plant works good for a start, then as the flowers come off I re-plant the seeds around the tomato plants and then even more marigolds spring up. It is the only thin...

The Fix-It Gene
2007-06-07 00:00:00
Now, in my family there was just us two girls, my sister and I, as far as kids go that is. We both inherited the fix-it gene from my dad. I have installed my own ceiling fans, replaced the thermostat on the water heater, replaced radiator fans, brake pads on both cars... you name it and if I have the strength to do it, by golly I will. My sister has a bit of this gene, too, only she has to be REALLY motivated before it comes out to show itself. Well, it showed itself recently and I just got out of the way and let it fly. You see, she bought this used refrigerator for $100 and it is way bigger and colder than the last one she had. Also, it has an ice-maker. Just the word "ice-maker" made her eyes light up and this became her motivation. She went out and bought a little kit with everything she needed to hook up the ice-maker to the water line under the sink. (Where is her man you ask? He is out of town on a work trip and she is excited to have this ready as a surprise for him whe...

Lightning Bugs A.K.A. Fireflies
2007-06-07 00:00:00
The lightning bugs are out. They have been out for a couple days now and it is a HUGE hit with my daughter. She braves all sorts of mosquito bites (note the big mosquito on her wrist in the picture above) and has many big pink bites to show for it. She is wearing her team t-shirt from soccer. Half of the 6 weeks of it was rained out every time it was our day to play or the field was so wet from rain the day before. But, hey, we got a shirt out of the deal! :) hee hee You also might notice the bandage on her elbow. That is is one of a few bandages she has stuck on her from a face-plant she took the other day when running down the sidewalk with her cousin. They criss-crossed each other's path and their feet got tangled up. She was so scraped up on her foot that I could not even bandage it. I had to break out the liquid bandage to cover up those wounds. Ouch! But, catching lightning bugs has made up for all of it. Tonight she caught three of them in one scoop of her hand! That's ...

California Spanking Ban Going, Going, Gone
2007-06-04 00:00:00
California Span king Ban Goin g , Going, Gone AB 755 would have biased authorities against good parents Update to Story Dated: April 18, 2007 SACRAMENTO, June 1 /Christian Newswire/ -- California's spanking bill, which lumped good parents who use traditional methods of child discipline together with bad parents who are hateful, harmful child abusers, has died in committee. AB 755, by Democrat Assemblywoman Sally Lieber of San Jose, was "shelved" Thursday, May 31 in the Assembly Appropriations Committee. "This is a relief for the tens of thousands of parents and grandparents who called and emailed Sacramento to protest this home-invasion bill," said Randy Thomasson, president of Campaign for Children and Families, a leading pro-family organization in California that fought against AB 755. "Thank God for small favors in the liberal California Legislature. Apparently, the Democrat leaders decided it was becoming politically harmful for them to be viewed as the party that sent good p...

Two Kids and a County Courthouse
2007-06-04 00:00:00
Two Kids and a Count y Court house My daughter and nephew got to go to a real-live bond hearing this past Thursday. I went as a show of support for a friend of mine who was requested to come and watch the proceedings. My little whipper-snappers were the only kids in the bunch and a lot of the lingo that was said flew way over their heads, but they were in awe of the fact that they were witnessing a real-live court proceeding. My nephew's eyes almost bugged out of his little head when he saw, as he said, "the bad guy" all dressed up in black and white stripes. My daughter was in awe of the judge sitting there high up in his big important spot in the room. They both sat straight up, didn't talk or play and were quite impressed with this event since it was really real. They watched the lawyers talk and the judge. They saw the big impressive courtroom. I could tell they really understood the seriousness of the whole thing in that they did absolutely no goofing around at all. Late...

IRS Seeks to Silence Kansas Church
2007-06-02 00:00:00
IRS Seek s to Silence Kansas Church WICHITA, Kansas, June 1 /Christian Newswire/ -- On April 20, 2007 the IRS sent an "inquiry" letter to Spirit One Christian Center stating that, "a reasonable belief exists that your organization has engaged in political activities..." They cited our church marquee signs - specifically a sign we put up which read, "Sebelius accepted $300,000.00 from abortionist Tiller, price of 1000 babies." The IRS has turned into a Gestapo, a speech police, who says if you're Christian, there are some things you can not say or preach. The 1st amendment of the Constitution is a respected and renowned oracle celebrated all over the nations of the world. It is quite specific and clear; "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press..." The IRS is blatantly limiting the free exorcise of our sincerely held C...

Postmaster General to be Asked for Ten Commandments Postage Stamp at News C
2007-06-02 00:00:00
Postmaster Gene ral to be Asked for Ten Commandments Postage Stamp at News Conference Today WASHINGTON, May 30 /Christian Newswire/ -- At a news conference today at the National Press Club, a coalition of groups headed by the Washington, DC based Faith and Action will publicly ask Postmaster General John Potter to issue an official Ten Commandments U.S. Postage Stamp. Representatives of Faith and Action, the Christian Defense Coalition and others will unveil tens of thousands of petitions signed by citizens in all 50 states and several territories asking for the stamp. U.S. Postal Service regulations do not require petitions or any number of requests before issuing a stamp. One citizen may request a particular stamp theme, but it must meet certain guidelines in its design and content. Faith and Action was previously denied its request for a Ten Commandments stamp after the advisory commission responsible for evaluating stamp proposals deemed its content "religious." ...

Boy, Am I Glad To Be Back HERE!
2007-05-25 00:00:00
Greetings all! I have been flat on my back for two days with food poisoning. I have not had a case of it since 1999 and I don't care to have it again for another 8 years. Praise the Lord I have my strength back and am rested and glad to be back among the world! I really took my health for granted and needed to be knocked out for a bit. I am so grateful to be able to function again! I feel great! I have my strength back, but mostly I am grateful for the headache being gone. I don't care about throwing up. I actually like it, because at least for a little while there afterwards the headache goes away and I feel better, even if it is only for like 10 minutes. It still is a break from the torment of a food poisoning headache, which is kind of like a migraine, only I was actually able to fare better with light and sound. I have not had a migraine since before I was pregnant. I used to have them regularly and sometimes if I did not catch one in time it would go on for 48 hours and I...

A New Job... Sort Of
2007-05-24 00:00:00
Today was an interesting day. First, I received an email from the company that I contract for saying that the other company that I was receiving calls for is pulling the plug on their work at home run; however, they wanted me to start working for another company doing the same thing. Sounds good. After a moment of panic, I went and accepted the offer and now I will start my 10-day training period for the new company on Monday-ish. I am sooo not looking forward to the training. I just got to the point where I pretty much knew the ins and outs of my current company. Also, working for this new company includes sales. So, I will be doing activations, billing *and* sales. Blah. Oh, well. What am I gonna do? This is my only option and it will end up working out fine. The hard part is not only do I have to learn an entirely new billing and activation system, I have to learn an entire product line as well as the features and capabilities of each product. Did I mention that I take calls f...

Five Detained Xinjiang Church Leaders Released After International Pressure

Five Detained Xinjiang Church Leaders Released After International Pressure This is an update to the post dated: May 2nd, 2007 MIDLAND, Texas, May 18 /Christian Newswire/ -- CAA has learned after intensive diplomacy and media pressure, the five detained house church leaders in Xinjiang were released. They were released ten days earlier than the official criminal detention intended. Two of them were released on May 17 and the other three were released in the evening of May 18, 2007(Beijing time). Credible sources say family members of the detained pastors were called by the local government official to pay 2000 Yuan ($250) for each detainee to the prison for their release because the "detainee were very ill." However after the family members paid, they found the detained church leaders were fine except two male pastors were tortured with some visible wounds on their legs and arms. They are in very good spirits and joyful. "We are not cults but true followers of Je...

Kansas Is So Pretty... I Thought I Would Share
2007-05-21 00:00:00
I just love rural Kansas . I grew up in the desert repeating, surely, 100s of times, "It's a dry heat." Like, that makes 116 degrees easier to take or something. It was our standard comeback. It still feels like you are standing in front of a hair dryer... literally. I had never really known how hot it felt until had been away from it and then I went back for a visit recently. I could not believe that I lived my whole life there in that kind of heat! Growing up there in the desert, you think, "What is wrong with these visitors and all their complaining?" Well, this time it was I that was doing the complaining. I discovered that I'll now take a little humidity and some mosquitoes any day over that "dry heat." Yes, I have changed and become acclimated to the Kansas weather. I thought I was going to freeze to death when I first came out here, but now I can run around with a t-shirt on at 55 degrees like everyone else. A 55 degree day in the winter i...

Confiscated Church Properties in Jiangsu Return ed After International Press ure This post is an update to the post dated May 9th, 2007 MIDLAND, Texas, May 11 /Christian Newswire/ -- China Aid Association has learned that on May 11, the PSB in Kunshan, Jiangsu Province returned all of the confiscated items to the two house churches. The PSB officers told the two church pastors Cui Chengnan and Liu Riguo that the increasing international pressure after CAA's report and the fear of negative impact of the foreign investment in that area made them do so. The PSB officers apologized to the church privately and even promised to reimburse the cost of the church pew and offering box which were ruined by the PSB during the raid. On May 9 the two pastors have filed an application for administrative reconsideration and demand that the Kunshan Municipal People's Government rule that the compulsory administrative measure taken by the respondent (Kunshan Municipal Public Security Bureau) is ...
Chicken Slaughtering/Butchering Day Went Great!
2007-05-13 00:00:00
Chicken Slaughtering/Butchering Day Went Great ! I am sunburned and exhausted, but other than that it was a blast as usual. The fun part is just talking with friends while working on a project for 3 hours. We could have been doing just about anything and we still would have had fun. My daughter was watching the men take the chickens out of the coop and carry them to the crates. Next thing I knew she was carrying chickens to crates too, only two at a time! And, I got that on video! After the chickens were bled and dunked in the scalding tank they were put into this thing called a Whizbanger. It has rubber finger-like things on the inside of it and the entire things spins around and the chickens get thrown inside and sprayed with a bit of water and they come out with all their feathers pulled off. It is fast and easy! It was hot and humid, but not too humid. And there was not much of a breeze. The sky was a deep blue with big fat clouds. I got a great shot here of the b...

Tomorrow is Chicken Slaughtering/Butchering Day
2007-05-12 00:00:00
That's my big event for tomorrow. A few hours of slaughtering/butchering chickens with a group of friends in the great rural Kansas outdoors. It's a messy job, but we really enjoy the results. The chickens are usually around 4.5 lbs and until I butchered and ate my own chicken last year I never knew there was that much of a difference! (Because I am an ex-city kid and all.) I am going tomorrow morning to buy myself my own knife. I have been told to get me about a 4" fish fillet knife. I used some good ones and some bad ones last time I butchered. It was hard using hand-me-down knives because I did not have my own, but I ended up using a decent one and got my job done just fine. I now know why people go and buy and bring their own knives. I know better this year. My daughter is still too young to participate with us the cutting activities, but she was a super helper last year in that she would take the chickens off the table and drop them into the water buckets. She also lik...

Persecution Again st Believers Intensified in Xinjiang; American Chris tian Leaders and Interpreter Released after International Pressure MIDLAND, Texas, May 2 /Christian Newswire/ -- China Aid Association has learned through credible sources that the persecution against believers in Xinjiang intensified after the recent massive arrest on April 19, 2007 in Akesu city, Xinjiang province. About 30 major house church leaders were arrested when they met with four American Christians. US government sources tell CAA that after intensive diplomacy and media pressure, the four Americans have been released and are home as of late last week. Their interpreter Mr. Jinhong Li was also released and sent home to Beijing on May 1 (Beijing time). CAA learned that two of the host families were raided again in recent days. Their lands and other valuable household items including computers were confiscated. At least 6 others have already received criminal detention papers for 37 days detention for b...

Would You Swallow an Empty Water Balloon for Your Child?
2007-05-05 00:00:00
Would you swallow an empty water balloon for your child? This is the question of the day for me... My daughter came in and asked me what would happen if someone was to swallow a balloon. I launched into the story about bowel obstructions and reminded her of how my friend's dad, who we knew, died from complications of a bowel obstruction. As tears welled up in her eyes I realized that she herself had swallowed a tiny water balloon just minutes earlier and she was struck with fear and heading towards devastation. I quickly had to start putting out this fire. I explained that what I had said was possible, but God made young bodies to be quite good at handling foreign objects and proceeded to re-tell her the story about how the handful of lite-brite pegs made it through her body into her diaper just fine some years earlier. This seemed to quell her fears for about 2 and 1/2 minutes. Then she was back on my lap and in tears. A few minutes later she was sitting on the toilet tryin...

Potluck and Skeet Shooting
2007-05-02 00:00:00
Sunday after our church meeting we had a potluck. The food was an interesting mix. I brought my polish sausages, but there was also, chicken, deer and I got to try some goat meat! The fellowship was absolutely wonderful and it truly was a treat to sit down with everyone and share a meal. The kids played all around the yard on the trampoline, the swing set and the animals were also an attraction. The adults socialized all over the place, but I ended up watching the skeet shooting going on... the noise attracted me over to watch what they were doing. There were about 5 shotguns and 3 or 4 at a time would shoot. We took turns shooting over an open field. Everything is so green right now because of Spring and it was just a perfect day for some outdoor fellowship. (More pictures can be found on the http://coramdeolindsborg.org web site.) The picture above is of me taking my turn at skeet shooting. I just did what they said and matched the little dot on the end of the shotgun with the...

CoramDeoLindsborg.org I put together a web site and staked our claim to a domain name for our little church group. Our site for Coram Deo Fellowship in Lindsborg, Kansas can be found at: http://coramdeolindsborg.org It is simple, clean and informative. It is our first run at a site and it is free! Who can beat that? There is a Contact Us page where people can contact us and an About Us page where I have posted only a handful of photos of us in case you would like to sort-of see us all. I have also setup a blog at a different site, but right now it is private and I don't know exactly how we would use it just yet. So, it is just sitting there. Karisa mentioned needing a logo for the coramdeolindsborg.org site. Maybe she'll whip one up. She is very artistic... not to mention a very snappy dresser. ;) Feel free to check out our official web site if you so desire. I hope you enjoy it! Blessings, Denise

Thank You for the Prayers, Call Volume was Wonderful Today!

First off let me say thank you for the prayers. And Karisa, you sweet thing, you are a dear. Today 's call volume has been amazing. Back-to-back all day! I just have to smile and thank the Lord for wonderful answer to prayer. What a blessing! Another blessing is it turns out I am actually getting money back from my taxes! Who'da thunk it? They told me I should be receiving it like the middle of May. I already have plans for it. It is going towards curriculum. :) My car did die on my on my way leaving the tax office, but I always have my handy-dandy can of starter fluid under the passenger seat of my car along with my little minus (I call the screwdrivers "plus" and "minus") screwdriver I keep in the glove box for just such an occasion. Only this time my car was extra stubborn and I had to grab a passing mailman to help. See, normally I just squirt the starter fluid in and then start my car up. Only this time, it would not work. The mailman had to stand there s...
