China Security Issued Blacklist of 43 Types of People in 11 Categories to be Barred from Attending Olympic Games; Religious People Under Strict Scrutiny MIDLAND, Texas, Nov. 8 /Christian Newswire/ -- CAA learned from reliable internal Chinese government sources that in April of 2007, the Ministry of Public Security of the Chinese government issued a general nation-wide order, requiring strict examinations on all people both in China and overseas who will participate in the Olympic Games. These include members of the Olympic Committee, athletes, media and sponsors. With this, they also provide a list of 43 types of people in 11 categories to be barred from attending the Olympic Games. In early April of 2007, the Ministry of Public Security secretly issued to public security departments throughout the country a document entitled "Notice on Strict Background Check on Applicants for the Olympic Games and the Test Events." This is the origin of the "43-type & 11-category" blacklis...

U. S. Flag Ceremony Banned - Reciting the 13 Folds Can no Longer be Done by
2007-10-31 17:22:00
FYI - For more information on the 13 folds, check out this site, which is dedicated to The Flag of The United States of America at: http://www.usflag.org/foldflag.html. -Denise U. S. Flag Ceremony Banned WASHINGTON, Oct. 31 /Christian Newswire/ -- A long standing Flag Fold ing Ceremony has been banned at all Military Funerals by the White House. Reciting what the 13 folds to the United States Flag stand for in Military Funerals, can no longer be read by anyone who is an employee of America. Colonel David Hunt said on Fox News, "We have really blown this. This is a funeral of a family who has lost a son, father, daughter or mother. What it means is that if you want to have a Military Funeral in a traditional way, you have to find your own soldiers to read at the ceremony. This is disgraceful conduct by a White House that says because of political correctness we can no longer give them a traditional burial ceremony." Many other people in America are also outraged by this dec...

My Daughter Was Given Some Heelys!
2007-10-13 00:00:00
My Daughter Was Given Some Heel ys! Have you seen those shoes that let kids roll around on the heels of their feet? I think I would like pair, too! Well, my daughter got a pair yesterday as a gift and, boy are they cute! Here's a picture from their web site and you can see here what they look like on the bottom when the wheels are in. They come with a little tool and you just pop out the heel plugs and then snap in the wheels and vice-versa. They are quite comfortable looking and look very well made. Here is a close-up of my daughter's actual pair of Heelys. Hers have fat pink laces and I think they are very sharp-looking. Even during the winter she will be able to wear these just fine with the wheels out and the plugs in. They are totally versatile. They are full tennis shoes as-well-as play shoes. :) The entire time that we were trying them on in the store, she was telling the salesman how much she loved these shoes and how it was "killing her" to wait to try ...

Zen Cart or osCommerce? Which do I try for Favorite Things Home Shoppe? Well, I have not been around the blogosphere too much lately and I don't think I'll be around much for a while until I get this all figured out. See, I am trying to set up my shop online and am having a heck of a time because of the learning curve I am currently driving through. (ha ha) My home decor and gifts business, called Favorite Things Home Shoppe (www.FavoriteThingsHomeShoppe.com) is what I am trying to set up right now. My other business, doing web sites, is already setup (www.BrownEyedWildFlower.com) and was not anywhere near this big of a headache. I think it is all because I have so many products and item descriptions to handle, along with all the shipping information, contact information, graphics, etc. Lemme tell you my wrist and arm are KILLING ME!!! That said, I trudge on. My party was last week, and the orders are coming in and my reminder emails went out tonight. (With a very snazzy g...

The Friendly Praying Mantis
2007-10-10 00:00:00
The Friendly Pray ing Mantis The other night, my daughter found a friend. It was a praying mantis. And this little guy crawled up her leg all the way to the top of her head...a few times. He was very happy to be crawling around her head for some reason. It also liked the camera and tried to jump on it as I was taking his picture. But, he fell to the ground and crawled back up my daughter's leg all the way to the top of her head again. We ended up picking him up with a stick and my daughter reached up and put him in the neighbor's flower box. P.S. You barely tell, but, yes she is wearing her "I Love Chocol-8" Math-U-See t-shirt. hee hee Praying Mantis

My Farming Friends Competition Photo Was a Runner -Up :) I entered a photo into the Farming Friends Blog's Monthly Photo Competition and was glad that it was so well received. I just thought it was a pretty picture, but it may have fared better in the competition if there were some animals in the shot. But, it is what it is. :o) If you'd like to check out the other photographs and read through a really interesting blog about farming check out Farming Friends. We Went to the McPherson Scottish Festival and Highland Games
2007-10-02 00:00:00
We Went to the McPherson Scottish Festival and Highland Games So, we went to the McPherson Scottish Festival and Highland Games on September 22, 2007. We spent the whole day there. (I got really sunburned. Who knew that would happen?) We parked at the High School and took their little zippy shuttle into the event. It was very fast and much nicer than hoofing it over there with say, a lawn chair strapped over my shoulder. I brought a big boat tote bag with a blanket folded up in the bottom of it. That was our seating for the day. That reminds me, I still have to wash that thing. The first thing we did after coming in the gate was visit the Highland Cattle. My daughter would have spent all day there if she could. She fed those slobbering things over and over and over. I had her just wipe her hands on the grass and then washed them well at the nearest opportunity. (P.S. we had to stop and do the feeding of these things again as we walked by on the way out, too.) We picked up a...

Favorite Things Home Shoppe & Year -Round Gift's Very First Ever Home Party is in Only Two Days! Am I freaking out? Not too bad I must say. Nervous? It comes and goes. I am just nervous because it is the first one. That's all, really. Believe it or not I have a talent for public speaking. Yep. Didn't know that one did you? Well, maybe you did. I discovered it back when I worked at a university and had to do training and give presentations and read a whole bunch of stuff. I came up with this technique of reading through my script and underlining the phrases that I was to read as a group, etc., then when I read it, it sounded like a dream. I didn't think about what I was reading at all, I just read it according to my code. Ha! Every time I did it I had people coming up to me and saying that it was so interesting to hear me talk and that they remembered everything I said. I didn't know anything about what I did, I just was handed a script about 4 minutes before I had to read...

Some Dramatic Chopping of My Template Code and I Feel Much Lighter
2007-09-30 00:00:00
Some Dramatic Chopping of My Template Code and I Feel Much Lighter Now then, let's get on with things, shall we? I got sick of my page taking over 20 seconds to load and figured it was time to do some drastic editing on my template. I mean, I don't stick around on pages that don't load, why should you guys? My page now takes about 2-6 seconds to load. Not up to Google's speed (thanks for pointing that out Karisa), but much more pleasant for everyone. I have decided that I have learned enough about blogging and page rank and working the system for now that I no longer care what the page rank is for this blog. I am not seeking stats, traffic, etc. I know how to get it and that's what I needed to know. My focus now is on my two businesses that are starting up, or rather, have started up: Favorite Things Home Shoppe and BrownEyedWildFlower Web Care. Oh, yes, I am still homeschooling my daughter, and I am truly grateful that she is not older and doing more elaborate work. Th...

Scottish Highland Festivals Going on in Other Places
2007-09-18 00:00:00
So, I am totally excited about the Scottish Festival and Highland Games in McPherson Kansas this coming weekend that I am looking around at other places to see what they have going on at theirs. I came across this blog: http://www.emmasdaughterdesigns.com/blog/ ?p=246 and as you can see here, they have a bit of a bigger Scottish Highland Festival there in Estes Park, Colorado, than we've got going on in McPherson. However, I am hoping that in the future that we will have some jousting with a $50,000 prize, wow! hee hee Take a look at her photos, if you're interested, to see what I am talking about. :) Denise tag: Scottish Festival and Highland Games, Scottish Festival, McPherson, Kansas, Estes Park, Colorado

Scottish Festival & Highland Games in McPherson, Kansas Sat. & Sun.
2007-09-15 00:00:00
www.MacFestival .org McPherson Scottish Festival Saturday and Sunday September 22nd & 23rd, 2007 Lakeside Park, McPherson, Kansas There is a fun and educational event in McPherson, KS: The McPherson Scottish Festival. Homeschooling families will find many aspects of the festival to be of interest. It's a glimpse into traditions of Scotland and of the Scots who immigrated to the U.S. There are about 25 tents staffed by representatives of various Scottish clans or families. Many of those people are quite knowledgeable about the history and traditions of Scotland, and many have traveled there. There's a genealogy tent where people assist attendees in researching their family histories, of any ethnicity. Scottish and Irish music are on-going throughout the day both Saturday and Sunday. One of our featured performers is a renowned American player of the Irish flute. All are accomplished singers and instrumentalists. On Sunday there's a Celtic harp tent, with performa...

My Daughter's Big Surprise at Small World Gallery in Lindsborg :)
2007-09-09 00:00:00
My daughter wearing her surprise gift necklaces Last Saturday, we were out and about because I was waiting for a friend of mine to come into town. I was early to the meeting spot and she and the rest of her family were still a few hours out, so, being a lover of photography, I took my daughter over to see Jim Richardson's Flint Hills photographs at the Small World Gallery . As I stand there drooling and trying to take in the beauty of every photo, Jim comes out to greet us from the other side of a room partition. He and my daughter chit-chat about a sculpture standing about four feet off the floor that looks like a giant mushroom. (It was a big hit with this 4-year-old I tell you!) As I continued to look at the photographs along the wall, I read how these photographs are in the April 2007 issue of National Geographic Magazine. I have since seen the photographs in the magazine and can tell you that I much prefer the ones Jim has on his walls. They are huge, colorful and beautiful...

LAUDERDALE, Fla., Sept. 5 /Christian Newswire/ -- I'm saddened by the passing of one of our nation's great leaders," said Janet Folger, President of Faith2Action, who served with Dr. D. Hand-Me-Downs are Just Super-Duper!
2007-08-28 00:00:00
I don't know about you-all, but I thank God for my wonderful friends that have older daughters than mine. (grin) Come on, now. You know what I'm gettin' at. Hand -me-downs!!! It happens and I am all for it. I mean, most of the clothing does not get used up because the kids grow so fast. Well, today we (my daughter and I, or rather my daughter) received two bunches of hand-me-downs! We got a bag from one friend with a bunch of "farmy" (?) clothes and when we got home there were a few outfits sitting there from some older cousins. I don't mind farmy clothes as long as they are not gamy. LOL Anyway, after we use up her clothes, we pass them on to a friend of mine that has two daughters that are smaller than mine. We've got a clothing assembly-line going on and it works out great!!! We all just love it and it saves us all tons of money. Besides, it is really nice to see your daughter's outfit go bouncing around on another kid. It brings a smile to my face every time. So, my advic...

The Car Always Puts Her To Sleep
2007-08-23 00:00:00
My daughter. This is the condition she is in a lot of times when I pull up to our house. This is one of (she has many) places she likes to sleep. Her car seat was just as big a hit as her current comfy booster seat. (Yes, I see that her arm is out of the strap.) She has no problem sleeping anywhere I take her. In fact, if it is naptime and we are at a certain friend of mine's house, she expects to be put down to sleep in my friend's teenage daughter's bed...it is the highlight of the visit for her! She has even fallen sound asleep on me during a church service and slept for a good 20 minutes. Drool and everything. That happened only last year. Yes, naps. It does a body good. She is asleep right behind me as a matter of fact. She got up on the bed go look over some library books and she is totally out. Face down. Snoozin' like a hibernating bear. I just love her. :)   sleeping in car seat

Our Visit to the Tri-Rivers Fair in Salina, Kansas
2007-08-16 00:00:00
Well, we went to the Tri-Rivers Fair in Salina this weekend and boy was it hot! So, once the sun went down, we met up with another home schooling family and walked around and looked at things for a few hours. Last year we went everywhere. We visited the animals and went through the vendor area (always a hit with kids). Not this year. This year, we hit the 4-H building and the rides and got out of there. There were a lot of things we wanted to do only it was just too hot for me. The first place we went was to the 4-H building to pick up my friend's daughters' items and ribbons. We all then walked around and looked at the other entries. We saw some beautiful quilts. I took a picture of the winner, along with some closeups of some individual squares. The rides were next, and the kids got to go on 3 rides. It costed $2.50 for each ride. RIDICULOUS! AND, the rides were so short it was a major rip-off. (Earlier in the year, I took my daughter to a carnival that was setup...

A Carrot From My Garden
2007-08-14 00:00:00
Here is a little carrot I pulled out of the garden tonight to see how they are coming along. The only other thing in my garden is some corn. My wildflowers look good, but my sunflowers would bloom for like a day and in the morning they'd be gone...SQUIRRELS! I have taken to chopping down sunflower plants regularly since the flowers are eaten off daily. I have also taken to not watering my tomato plants any more. I have not gotten a single tomato off of them...SQUIRRELS! My carrots are safe and doing well, the corn is kind of iffy. There is corn, but it is little. Sigh. Anyway. I have carrots! :)    garden carrot
