Random Pirate No. 20364
2007-10-25 04:16:00
Everyone tries to make a pirate that sets itself apart. Well, this guy is just a run of the mill pirate. They need work too.Is anyone else watching the show Pushing Daisies? I always enjoyed watching it, but last week just made me realize how much I love the program. The character 'Chuck', played by Anna Friel , is just so cute. I loved when she compared Emerson to Winnie the Pooh last week. The rest of the cast is great as well and there's a lot of chemistry for such a young show.Overall, it's just great to see a show on network television that's so different from everything else. It's one of the few times I actually try to set some time aside for the boob tube. This isn't a sponsored post or anything. I'm just a bit giddy. So, anyone else watch?----------------Now playing: Explosions In The Sky - First Breath After Comavia FoxyTunes

Halloween Spirit
2007-10-24 19:54:00
Halloween is just around the corner and I wanted to update a piece I did ages ago. This is back when I was still doing traditional work. This one was originally done in various pens. Enjoy!(Click on image for larger view)It took me a little while, but I just realized the genius of the Sufjan Stevens' album Come On Feel The Illinoise!. It's just perfect.I'll be back later to post my sketch of the day.----------------Now playing: Sufjan Stevens - John Wayne Gacy, Jrvia FoxyTunes

I decided to revisit an older piece. I basically just did some more of the details by hand.Click image for larger viewHere's a sketch that will be turned into a final product. It's based on the famous image found in Georges Méliès' A Trip to the Moon. This piece will deal with the aftermath of the famous incident...in a bit of a surreal way.Have a good one, everybody.

United States of Perception
2007-10-22 23:37:00
I started reading an interesting book today entitled In the Name of Democracy : American War Crimes in Iraq and Beyond. After just reading the introduction, I have found plenty to think about. It brought back to mind the memories of once being a supporting Iraq war spectator, to becoming an ashamed one.I was one of the people fooled into thinking Iraq was somehow connected to 9/11 and that they were making WMDs. A large reason may have been all the "evidence" provided by the Bush Administration. I don't remember being amped for war, but I believed a conflict was necessary to prevent WWIII. Four years later and the removal of rose colored glasses has made me realize the disastrous effects blind patriotism can have.I then moved to the camp saying "hey, at least we got that bastard Saddam Hussein." And part of me still feels like that; however, we all know this thing wasn't set in motion to free the Iraqi people from a tyrannical regime. This was a war built on lies told by a bloated...

Strong Man's Kryptonite
2007-10-21 23:54:00
I'm going to start posting more of my sketches. Some will be the beginnings of other works, most won't. This little number deals with the shame of the Strong est Man:I've made promises of weekly or daily actions before; however, I will try to stick to my guns and post some kind of sketch daily.I really need a new camera. I recall commenting on it before, but I'm really going through withdrawal now. Unfortunately, money is the solution to that problem, and bank security has really improved recently. Yeah, I know, lazy youth.I've recently become a fan of a tried and true, yet seemingly unused, word: wino.I was fighting a vampire in aisle 6 (canned goods) at the local supermarket last night and came out on top. Sadly, the guilt over me possibly killing someone's vampire father/husband is tearing me up.Enjoy your sunset*.*That may be from George Carlin.----------------Now playing: Eluvium - Prelude For Time Feelersvia FoxyTunes

Really?
2007-10-18 01:15:00
Really? The iPhone is one of the greatest advancements ever? I didn't care for the iPhone when it first came out, as is evidenced here, and when I initially saw this commercial earlier this month, that feeling was cemented. Is there a list? Where does toilet paper stack up? Or the famous sliced bread? That one has been holding the top spot for some people. Of course, sliced bread really wasn't invented. But that's a discussion for another time.Really, I just wanted to point out how much I dislike the above ad.Watch out for Bush, everyone. Please, Consider Corn Elsewhere
2007-10-14 03:49:00
I have had enough of people pitching a tent in the middle of an aisle pondering the positives of corn. I enjoy corn, as we all do, and that's why I don't have to think about purchasing it when the opportunity shows itself. Here is a quick sketch of one such person:Notice how the ogre gobbles up the aisle.Of course, it's not just grocery store folk, it just happens this lady pushed me over the edge.Another thing. Why am I seeing Santa Claus humping an inflated reindeer?I don't mind the humping part, but it's October dagnammit. There's something unsettling about seeing two over-commercialized holidays so close to one another. I mean they were playing Christmas music, and it's like 60 degrees outside. Global warming or not, this is madness.I actually feel sorry for the employees more than anything else. Imagine, won't you, having to listen to Jingle Bells over 3 months. My psyche couldn't take it I tells yas.Whilst reading the Ram 'n' Stab today, I heard "they" are planning on...

The Flipper Fiasco
2007-10-07 03:36:00
Today I decided I needed a new pair of flippers. The reasons for needing them are of my own concern. I had lost them at a yard sale ten years ago and thought today was the day to make the big purchase. Little did I know I would meet the most malicious cashier since Hitler worked at a Lane Bryant. So there I was at the pool supply store thumbing through the equipment which would imbue me with merman powers. And there they were, a pair so beautiful that any description would fall so short that the universe would destroy itself in a fit of rage. I walked over slowly, my mouth surely agape. As my hand reached out I noticed a slight warmth emanating from the objects, as if Neptune himself had placed them in the bargain bin.I overcame my awe and quickly snatched them up as to prevent them from falling into less-worthy hands. I made a dash to the check-out, my shopping was done. I had found my Xanadu. Upon gently placing the flippers onto the counter. Suddenly, a voice uttering one line bro...

Insanity Sells
2007-10-05 05:11:00
Babies make rain.I have no proof to support this claim. But what good is a blog if you can't make outrageous claims? For example:Trees long for the touch of supermodels around Fall; hence, the loss of leaves. You see? I have no idea what that's even supposed to mean, but it makes for interesting reading.I'm a bad writer, I've come to grips with that. My grammar is rather atrocious, and my vocabulary is either lacking or, as is most often the case, over-stuffed. This in turn leads to elementary spelling mistakes which leave us all looking foolish. That's alright though, I've found a way around my many foibles: insanity. It's great, and I couldn't be more serious. (Small side note. Does anyone else get annoyed when people say, "I could care less"?) Of course I mean insanity in the lovable sense, not the Killy McGee sense. No one wants to hear about stabbing people and the like; well, except for O.J. Simpson...ZING!!!Now my posts don't have to have needless structure or "points."...

Flomax: Oh, the Irony
2007-10-04 05:11:00
I'm sure this has been brought up elsewhere on this intertwined web of ours; however, due to a small dose of laziness, not to mention a large dose of notcaring-ness, I shall bring up this rather obvious ironic snafu.Flomax is a drug that helps men who can't piss...piss. That may be too much of a simplification, but for my purposes here it works fine. Here are some of the common side effects of Flomax (which can be found here) :"...Common side effects of FLOMAX are runny nose, dizziness and decrease in semen. A sudden decrease in blood pressure may occur upon standing, rarely resulting in fainting..."If you didn't catch the odd section here it is:"...decrease in semen..."Are there other drugs that cause this problem? Probably so. However, it seems rather quirky to me that one would give the product a moniker that is so contradicting.I mean, FLO- I can see, that's not my sticking point. It's the -MAX section. I don't know, it just seems pretty deceptive to me. Maybe I'm insane,...

Son of a Bee Sting!
2007-09-25 01:15:00
Someone stole my sketch book today.I was checking out some books at the library and left it on the check-out desk. I then proceeded to my car, noticed my mistake, and ventured back in. However, did I find my trusty notebook...no. Five...damn...minutes, and someone steals a seemingly normal composition notebook. Donkey drooling monkey snatchers!!!What kind of inhuman deranged individual would steal my defenseless sketch book? I guess they needed to make themselves feel better by getting all 10 pages of unused paper locked within. My day was ruined.Luckily, I use the sketch book as just that, a sketchy book. If anyone can discern what I have drawn and steal something; well, they can kiss the fattest part of my ass.R.I.P. sketch book, you were a fine little book.Just needed to vent on the Internets...that is the purpose of it after all; well, other than porn.Keep your belongings safe, everyone. ----------------Now playing: The Polyphonic Spree - Section 22 (Running Away)via FoxyTunes

Inspiration is the Word
2007-09-21 20:25:00
The Push Pin Graphic was a magnificent illustration/design journal begun in the 1950's by some of the business' true geniuses; Milton Glaser, Seymour Chwast, Reynold Ruffins, and Edward Sorel. For about 25 years, this was the place to find the top tier in design and illustration.Well, I came across The Push Pin Graphic: A Quarter Century of Innovative Design and Illustration at my local library a few days back, and I am hooked. Like most artists, I'm always trying to find something that can push me out of my comfort zone. If this book doesn't give you a few ideas, then I don't know what to tell you. There are so many mediums and techniques on display here, you'll find that you've skimmed the whole book in one sitting.I'm not saying you have to buy it, but it really is a great book to have checked out for a few weeks.Just sit back and soak in the awesomeness.I don't believe the below image is in the book, but I found it while following some of the threads given to me in it'...

So We Meet Again, Weinsteins
2007-09-20 04:45:00
"What am I doing? Oh nothing really, just killin' and saving movies"I saw Grindhouse in theaters earlier this year and thought it was one of the best movie experiences out there. The trailers were great, particularly Machete, Planet Terror was a spoof of exploitation/B- movies more than anything else but it was funny, and Death Proof was a tasty treat. However, I feared, along with many others, that the powers that be would split up the two movies to milk the consumer as much as possible. Well, it has come to fruition, and while I still love Death Proof, the overall experience is lost.I mean they don't even have the trailers in the damn special features!!! Damn you Weinsteins and your a-hole faces. I now have to wait until October for Planet Terror, and then you'll release a damn full-length version at Christmas...bastards.Anyway, Death Proof is a really well-made film, something I have come to expect from Mr. Tarantino. Kurt Russel is the man, and he saves the movie in more way...

WIP - Staedtlerus Revisited
2007-08-26 03:37:00
Fans of this blog may recall an entry mentioning the pencil God, Staedtlerus. In the post I promised drawings of said God in the Summer of 2007. Well, I waited to the last minute but I'm finally getting around to it:As the title implies, this is a work in progress and will be quite different when finished. Although, the paper wings are fairly locked in.In regards to the "Shocker" piece, there'll be some changes made to that too and I'll post it when amended.I have a Threadless submission up. There's about 3 more days to vote; so, if you feel like it, cast your voting powers. Thanks in advance. (I know some had trouble seeing the voting badge before, but hopefully it works this time.)Finally, I got around to seeing Superbad and was very pleased; however, I think that college kids quoting it out of context for the next six months will wear on some. I highly recommended seeing it though, if for nothing else than the special treasure box it unveils.Have a good one everyone.
