I'm teaching "Producing Documentaries" at UCLA Extension

Starting April 1st, I'm going to be teaching "Producing Documentaries ," at UCLA Extension . I'm very excited about this new opportunity to share what I've learned about documentary film making with the next generation of film makers.Everyone interested is invited to enroll in my class. A Call to Fatherhood

I've just begun shooting a new documentary with Debby Takikawa, with whom I made What Babies Want, the award-winning feature documentary about birth and babies.We're making a follow-up, about fathers and fatherhood, tentatively entitled "A Call to Fath erhood ." We started shooting last week, and, I would suspect we'll be shooting into the Spring.I'm the Producer/Director of Photography/Editor of the project. It's fantastically exciting for me to work with Debby again, and I think we have the potential to make something that can really change people's lives for the better. Even the little bit we've shot so far gets me really excited.Stay tuned for more updates as the project progresses!

His Little Girl

I made "His Litt le Girl " in the Fall of 1994, after I had attended film school at NYU, but before I enrolled at USC for graduate film school.I was the Producer / Director / Writer / Editor.It's a bit darker and more psychological than some of my more recent work.I shot this with J. Ayscue back in Williamsburg, Virginia, when we both still worked for Colonial Williamsburg. I had a lot of fun making this film, but I think I'm a better film maker now than I was 11 years ago. I sure hope so, at least.It was shot on 16mm and is 7 minutes long. What Babies Want Wins Award at Boston International Film Festival

What Babies Want, a feature length documentary that I produced, co-wrote and edited, won the Documentary Special Recognition Award at the Boston International Film Festival this past weekend.This is the film's first award, so it's really exciting for all of us involved. The film was produced and directed by Debby Takikawa, and narrated by Noah Wyle.

This blog is one year old today!(Start singing "Happy Birthday" here)The last year has been a busy one for me:Adria Dawn and I co-produced the comedy The Miss Firecracker Contest, which I directed and designed.I finished the feature length documentary What Babies Want, which I produced/co-wrote/edited.I finished working on the eerie documentary piece, Dark Secrets, which I produced/D.P.'d/edited.I've been making commercials and trailers, composing music, and writing.And this website has been growing and growing -- I've been sprucing up the place, adding podcasting and del.icio.us links.Finally, I'd like to thank all of you for coming by. Born in Williamsburg, Virginia, he has a Master of Fine Arts in film directing from the University of Southern California, studied film at New York University, and has a Bachelor?s degree in theatre directing from the University of Virginia. My wonderful wife, Adria Dawn recently got a recurring role on Nip/Tuck, playing Parker, a Scientologist.She's filmed two episodes so far.Her first episode is October 3rd, "Dawn Budge."As far as we know right now, her second episode is November 7th.Nip/Tuck was created by Ryan Murphy, who also created the hit show Popular that Adria was on for two years, playing April Tuna.She said it was like a homecoming, because so many of the same people from Popular also work on Nip/Tuck.Way to go, honey!So set those Tivos today for next Tuesday, October 3rd!Update: Adria got a mention in TV Guide!

You must believe me when I tell you that this is all true.The first time I summoned It, it was quite by accident.It was the Summer when I was eleven.That summer I spent nearly every day over at my friend Simon's, playing D&D with a couple of friends. I was a 9th level Magic User.Simon's Dad had converted their two-car garage into an extra room. It was littered with old, slightly stained orange furniture, and cheap cast off junk that wasn?t good enough to make it into the main house. It was a little off to the side, and mostly the adults never bothered us.We'd order pizza, and throw 20 sided dice for hours. We'd argue about how many experience points you should get extra for killing the chief Orc, stuff like that.Kid stuff.And then, at the end of one particular gaming evening, after a particularly difficult battle, my character found an old magical scroll in the game.
