Another Pearl Necklace Set

Last weekend was pearl weekend. Here is another set of pearl necklace and earring. This one is a mixture of natural and blue colored pearl. I like the wrap on the earring. This kind of wrap is idea i copied from Deryn of Something Sublime. Basically what I did is coil the wire round and round and round until you I get the desired thickness. Here, I used 23g wire for the wraps.

Here's a simple pearl necklace and earring set made today. A commissioned piece. I tried a new type of clasp/hook for this piece. Something I have never tried before but it turned out quite good. Seems to hook the necklace securely. The length of the necklace is about 18 inches, just nice to hang around the neck and show it off a bit...LOL.

Been a while since I made something with pearl. Today I made two pearl necklaces and a pair of matching earring. One of the necklace is stringed while the other one is wire wrap. These are gifts to my second sister in-law who will soon be flying back to NZ.Here are information on pearl on how to take care of them:Pearl 's value and cost are judged by its color. Approaching 40 at a very fast rate, my eyesight is getting worst by the day. It is not only the age factor but there are also factors such as spending long hours facing the computer screen - in my case everyday (Monday to Friday at work) for at least eight and a half hours and additional two to three hours after work at home. This is my first ever wire wrap charm bracelet. A belated birthday present for a niece in-law who is back for holidays from New Zealand. She mentioned earlier about detachable charms but poor me, I have never heard of it. Anyone of you heard of this or may suggest any websites specializing in this? Or maybe I am just to busy to keep myself updated with the latest trend. Anyway, the charms are a mixture of agates, malachite, rutile stones, jade and pearl and some metal beads. Tried to vary my wire wrapping skill here but not very productive today due to frequent distractions. And they are not detachable! However, I can tell she really like the bracelet. Phew! It is hard to satisfy teenagers these days.

These are my new beads from Canada. What a beady day I had when I got all these from my sister in-law the other day. There are handcrafted glass beads, cracked glass beads, fire polished glass Czech beads in various colors, amber glass accent beads, spacer beads and lampwork glass beads. Back in 2006, she also sent me some beads through friends who came back for holidays. Up till now I have not used them up yet. There are so many ways I can wire wrap them into jewelry. But I have to put them on hold until I finished with commissioned pieces and special request pieces.

Fish tooth for Wire Jewelry

Have you ever seen this fish before? Look at the teeth. I think those teeth will make very nice beads for a bracelet! Oh well ... a bit yucky though! This is what they call Parrot fish. Hubby went out fishing last weekend but he didn't catch this one. This was given to him by the boatman who caught it. It weight about 3.5kg. So the teeth are just the right size for a pair unique earring...:-)According to Wikipedia, Parrot fishes are named for their oral dentition; their numerous teeth are arranged in a tightly packed mosaic on the external surface of the jaw bones, forming a parrot-like beak which is used to rasp algae from coral and other rocky substrates. Actually I wanted to jump up and down when I saw these but I kept my cool. These were brought back from Canada by my sister in-law last few days. Just love it when my sister in-law comes back to Kuching for holidays. She knows just what to get for me (LOL...actually I requested them from her...). There are some beads as well but that will be for the next postings.Back to the magazines, they are full of information and tutorials of some of the wire wrapped techniques that I have been wanting to learn. This stone has been with me for almost a year now. This is a faceted black onyx. River Rocks that I Found

These rocks were collected from a river located outskirt of Kuching City - about an hour drive from Kuching to be exact. I wonder if they could be used for my wire wrap jewelry. In the water and while they are wet, the colors are beautiful especially the biggest one at far right of picture two. Guess I would only find out tomorrow morning as I am dead tired at the moment from our jungle tracking trip (walked for about 2 hours, to and fro) turned into swimming trip, this afternoon.We were actually out jungle tracking at Bengoh, the starting point to four villages upriver that can only be reached on foot. The nearest village is about 3 to 4 hours walk, or maybe longer for city folks who are not used to walking in the jungle. Our aim was not to reach any of these villages but searching for a nice spot for picnicking by the crystal clear river. These stones were purchased last weekend from the Sunday Market. I like them because of the natural and calming colors. Funny right. Some of you may find it to disturbing!..LOL. However, I am not very sure what stones are they. Can anyone help me here?I suspect the top two are agates. As for the bottom green one, according the man who sold them to me, they are jade...*scratching my head*. Never seen jade that look like this. Spools of Stainless Steel Wire

Are those fishing lines?....LOL. Stainless steel fishing lines! Wonder what type of fish I will catch with them? Actually, those are my spools of stainless steel wire of different gauges. That is how I keep my wire for now. There were only 3 spools at first but now I have nine. That will last me for a while. These colorful plastic spools are from the tackle shop. The wires that I bought came in individual loose coil as shown in the second picture here. Took me few hours to coil them all. The green spool at the top has about 70 yards of 19g wire on it. That'll give you some idea how much I can do with them. A lot I hope.
