Aprils You Cheer Me Up Awards
2008-04-09 07:32:00 I've decided to use a different episode from the I love Lucy Show when passing out the You Cheer Me Up Award each month. Above is the image for the award with the code beneath it, if you would like to add it to your sidebar or pass it along to others. The image of Lucy up to mischief again, is Lucy's first time doing a commercial for an advertising agency, but not her first job. It was also one of the many times she trying to show Ricky that she was an independent woman capable of making it on her own- Back in January, I wanted to pass out an award that made people laugh, and I knew the images and scenes from the classic situational comedy I love Lucy would be the perfect way to turn other bloggers and readers into a bunch of gigantic giggle boxes. I envisioned people laughing at their desks and home at this talented comedian who has been out of our lives too long, even though she remains in our hearts and memories. However, I discovered that some people aren't familiar wit... More About: Awards
Hospital Gowns
2008-04-03 12:43:00 Before her death, I used to imagine what my Golden Retriever "Wendy" may be thinking when she laid down and smiled; this is what I envisioned we may say to one another one day. You may recognize part of the phrase... Wendy and I at the park~ Wendy: "I dream of laying in the clover above the bunny rabbits burrow; a nice place in the sun where it's safe and warm; where a hound dog can rest her weary head."Me: and I wish to lay there with you, my friend, with a Bloody Mary in my hand. My post: I’m sorry about postponing another Tuesday’s Question. I've been practicing the violin therefore, I haven't had time to do much in the way of writing. I think until I get past whatever I need to do to get well I should rename Tuesday’s Question, The Unpredictable Question or the Question is…I like both titles so if you read either of them on a Tuesday as a title to a post it’s really Tuesday’s Question in disguise...or something like that,- Actually, this is Thursday isn’t it... Introducing: ~The Melters~
2008-03-29 22:43:00 Once again, I'm doing something different for Saturday's Favorite Movie Moment, which, I promise will return next Saturday. But at least I postponed my usual feature for a good reason: To introduce The Melters first video release of the bands live performances, before their first album. You see, I have special privileges because the one of these rockers is my son. The Melters have been playing together for seven years, three of which were in my house, my best friends garage, and the drummers parents house. All of the their songs titles are original. To find out more about The Melters upcoming shows and more details about their album or hear more of their songs go to myspace.com/melters. This video is also posted on You Tube under Melters-Polio Addict in case you would like to embed it or read more about the shows in the video. Look out Celine Dion! I know all the words to these songs. (read my last post)So, at the risk of sounding like Ed Sullivan, remember you saw The Melters her...
Celine Dion - Misheard Lyrics
2008-03-28 19:09:00 My son gently presented this video to me as proof that I've been singing the wrong words to Celine Dion 's hit song from the movie Titanic,My Heart Will Go On- It's funny how people misunderstand the words to songs, especially people who are as picky about lyrics, as I am. But I suppose it's a common mistake and I shouldn't be embarrassed. Although, when I think of how many times I sang this song (and others)in the car, shower, walking down the street, outside the car window, and in the grocery store, I cringe. Many times I belted it out on the front of the ferry boat that crosses our part of the Mississippi River after the movie was released. I imagined Leonardo DiCaprio's arms wrapped securely around my waist, as I belted out the lyrics, my arms stretched toward the sea like a song bird. Although, every time I sang on the ferry, I should have known something was wrong when I heard people laughing and clapping- ... More About: Lyrics
Cowboy Curtains
2008-03-27 16:58:00 I could feel the tears in my eyes before I opened them St. Patrick’s Day morning...It was the first day of spring, a season that is always good to me, so I wondered why tears were in my eyes. But, I shrugged it off and decided to focus on secure moments and new beginnings before getting out of bed.For some reason, I always project myself into the future during the spring season and on Sundays-For example, on Sunday I think of Monday, and during the spring months, I remember long hot summers.Except, on this first day of spring I didn't think of the summer, I thought of cowboy curtains instead. . . I remembered the cowboy curtains that hung in my uncle’s boyhood room at my grandmother’s house. They always smelled good, probably because they dried clinging to the clothesline on breezy spring afternoons. The smells and sounds of the South’s rich environment leave a lasting impression on people who grow up there. It was the first day of spring, a season that has good and bad memories for me, so I wondered why I woke up in tears. But, I shrugged it off and decided to focus on secure moments and new beginnings before I got out of bed. I’ve always had a hard time staying in the moment during the spring months, because I project myself into the future. I do the same thing on Sundays. The You Cheer Me Up Award Comes To Life!
2008-03-15 17:37:00 This Saturday, instead of posting a movie scene for Saturdays Favorite Movie Moment, I decided to post a tribute to the winners of the You Cheer Me Up Award - so, I posted a life version of the scene from I love Lucy pictured on the front of the award. Congratulation's to all of the winners of the You Cheer Me Up Award, listed here on the award page, and remember I give the You Cheer Me Up Award Out every month so next month your blog may be listed there as well. Here's what I said in my original post and the way I feel about the bloggers I pass this award to every month: "The bloggers I nominate for the You Cheer Me Up Award I hold in the highest esteem- along with the likes of Charlotte from Charlotte's Web, a box of Peanut Butter Panic Ice Cream, and this image above of Lucy and Ethel. Often we lack the opportunity to show the people who make a difference in our lives how much we appreciate them for what they do, for example, cheering us up when we feel down, or just making us... Readers Comment On Their Most Embarrassing Situations
2008-03-14 12:50:00 This Weeks Tuesday's Question was: When is the last time you were in an uncomfortable or potentially embarrassing situation? And I sited these examples: Have you ever called someone you know professionally or personally by the wrong name... or waved back at someone from a distance who was waving at someone else?Or entered the bathroom during a party after the person before you didn't or couldn't flush the toilet...leaving the contents in the bowl for the next person (you) in line?At the risk of sounding presumptuous, I think we've all been in these situations, although the bathroom experience is the one I have the most trouble understanding-I mean, why doesn't the person ahead of you ever tell you the toilet is broken? I think when anyone slides out of the bathroom in silence with a flushed (no pun intended) look on their face, it means one of two things A) They couldn't flush the toilet and were embarrassed; or B) they don't want you to think they did it even if they didn'... The Big Bang World Record
2008-03-14 09:13:00 Can we set a world record in the amount of blogs linked together in the blogosphere? Well, I've joined my friends in attempting to do just that~ The Big Bang World theory is our attempt to set a world record! Our goal is to reach and link together as many blogs as we can across the blogosphere. Let's see how big of a bang we can make-That is what I said in my first post for the Big Bang Theory, and I updated twice after that- I wrote my last update on Feb. 21st and we started the meme Jan 24th. Isn't that amazing?Since then the list has grown to 654 blogs! Therefore, it looks as though we might set a world record after all...and to think it seemed so far away in January. Here's what Mel from Monday Morning Power said on the ninth of March:"The Big Bang will go on as long as sites are being added. I have no plans to end it. Because of the recent surge of activity (3/9/08) I thought it wise to again bring the "Big Bang" to the head of the class."Therefore, here is my post to help "... Saturdays Favorite Movie Moment: Butch Cassidy and The Sundance Kid
2008-03-08 13:04:00 This is one of my favorite scenes from the movie classic Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, starring Paul Newman, Robert Redford, and Katherine Ross. Butch (Newman's character)takes Etta (Katherine Ross) for a ride on a bicycle for the first time- while the tune Raindrops Keep Falling On My Head by Burt Bacharach is playing in the background. I hope you like it, this movie clip puts me in a great mood every time I see it...I would rather go on a bike ride like this than wined and dined in the finest restaurant, especially with Paul Newman. Have a terrific Saturday, but look out for raindrops- Well.. that was a corny fragmented sentence wasn't it? Oh well...watching this scene shook me up~ :)) Cheers and happy Saturday~TEXT Posted by Ann Clemmons More About: Movie , Moment , Favorite
Chipper Kids: Counting In The Crazy Garden
2008-03-07 12:11:00 “One Jiggly, wiggly, wobbly worm cobbler” sounded great to Arnold Chipper, the creative and organized teddy bear gardener. However, the zealot chef had trouble convincing his curious but reluctant sister Maria and friend Albert to try his dishes. Not because the recipes were from the garden, but because the ingredients were the dirt, grass, pine needles and and other creatures Arnold found outside. Chipper Kids -Counting in the Crazy Garden is a counting by numbers book (one to ten) although it reads more like a story- The book begins on a single page with Arnold Chipper stirring from a bowl of what looks like mud, although the first page is not counted. The counting begins on the first two-page spread with the number One in the top left corner. The page with the number in the corner has as illustration of the same number of recipes Arnold creates… a counting style that continues throughout the story- For example, on the first two-page spread we see an illustration of ...
Readers Comments To Tuesdays Question: What Smell, Sound, Song , Etc. Remin
2008-03-07 11:07:00 As usual, the responses to this past Tuesday's Question were wonderful. I asked What Smell, Sound , Song , Etc, Reminds You Of A Happy Moment Or Person? And here were your responses- Remember those of you reading Tuesday's Questions comments to be sure and visit these bloggers blogs- they're great- just click on the link name, and thank you all for reading~ My good friend Sandee, from Comedy Plus was the first to comment: Great question Ann, but there are so many for me to pick from. Let's see...One of the greatest smells for me is the smell of a freshly cut Christmas tree. It reminds me of my childhood. My parents never had a artificial tree until all of us kids were grown. It was always a freshly cut tree that us kids would pick to celebrate Christmas. We lived on a farm and there was forest all around. Each year my dad would get the axe and off we'd go to find the tree us kids wanted. They never chose the tree it was always us kids. It made us feel very special to be allowed... The One In A Million Friend Award
2008-03-05 11:51:00 "One day I sailed away, far from land and far from the bay, with only the ocean for a friend, and the wind to lead the way" My brother gave me a picture of a little sailboat with this inscription when I was a little girl. I don't know who wrote it... the painting said anonymous. I'll have to google it and see- Anyway, I always think about it. Because it was one of the few times my older brother gave me a gift, and because he gave it to me for no reason- no reason at all. I think a gift for just for the emotion behind it are the best. I wish this award I'm handing out today wasn't for any reason. Because the best things we do in the world aren't noticed and the gifts that are for no reason are the best. The following bloggers have given me gifts for no reason other than to help a friend or the sake of friendship. For instance when I insisted Sandee at Comedy Plus let me know what I could do for her when she put the "read more" hack in my template, she said "No A... Tuesdays Question: What Sound, Smell, Song, Etc, Reminds You Of A Happy Mom
2008-03-04 12:02:00 Welcome to Tuesday's Question ! And congratulations to the new award recipients of the You Cheer Me Up Award winners underneath this post. What is difficult about using blogger is when you want to do three important posts at once. One covers another, so I'm going to leave Tuesday's Question first for the beginning of the day, and this afternoon I have a few special friends to thank with another award to post. Moving on, I have a nostalgic Tuesday's Question today, but it should be a fun one. What Sound , Smell , Song , Etc, Reminds You of A Happy Moment Or Person? You know when you're driving along the road and hear a song on the radio that reminds you of someone or something that made you happy? Or when you smell a certain perfume or go to a particular place, it evokes a happy memory ? For example, for me it's pipe smoke. The other day in the grocery store a man was smoking a pipe and it brought back images in my mind of the happy times I spent with my maternal grandfathe...
Its Time To Give Out More Of The 'You Cheer Me Award'
2008-03-04 09:09:00 When I started the You Cheer me Up Award I decided to keep it going for the new bloggers I meet who cheer me up. Well, I've been keeping up with the blogs out there who cheer me up, along with trying to add some of the blogs I thought I had on the list, however for some reason or another they didn't get an award. I hope I haven't missed anyone again, because you know I can be a bit of a flippedity jibbit at times. Anyway, I'm keeping the recipients fairly small but will continue to add to the original award post every month. Therefore if you've already received an award and are not on the award post page, please shout it out, and I will have my assistants on it you right away. I'm working on a new award page and want to keep up with the award recipients. The You Cheer Me Up Award will be A Nice Place In The Sun's only award so I want to have all the award recipients included on the original award post page. Congratulations to the bloggers who received an award today and t... More About: Time , Give
What is humor?
2008-03-03 16:47:00 A note to readers I hope this video wasn't too bizarre for my usual readers and new readers, because my son made it- but what is humor, right? His band sounds more like sixties rock,(an influence from Mom's Beatles records)so don't be afraid to visit him at his bands site,(or maybe you should) The meters just stay away from the rowdy language. I'm just a A Mom trying to show some support here, plus I loved the video. Although, I'm still a family centered humorist who loves to write for children, so you're not on the wrong blog. But maybe, I'm just a nervous Mom. If you're a parent you know how it feels watching your child publicly. My son has been an entertainer all his life but I never get used to it. He is in a popular local band and I've seen lots of shows and now they have an album coming out, but I'm nervous about a silly video he did for fun. I'd never live through it if he made it big~ O.K. I feel better now...here is my regular post~What is humor? What is a joke? ... More About: Humor
Has It Really Been A Week?
2008-03-02 14:07:00 Has it been a week?I can't believe it's been a week since I posted Saturday’s Favorite Movie moment. I feel like I've been roaming the city with amnesia or something, it's an awful feeling...When I woke up last Monday and couldn't find one slipper, I should have known something was coming, not that all mornings are a bed of roses, but waking up to just one slipper, is a sign that somethings amiss, in retrospect anyway. I do not have a dog, and my cat Simon can't understand why people and dogs find slippers resourceful anyway, so I knew it wasn't the cat- so where in the world was my slipper?I will give one hundred dollars to the person with the answer- but well, never mind, because someone else probably knows- that person is just not me. Hence, I'm looking for my other slipper with one eye open and the other refusing to awake, when I hear that low moaning sound cats make when their afraid. It’s "Monster" my cat Simon’s nemesis at the door. When Monster gets hungry... More About: Week
Eternal Sunshine Of The Spotless Mind/ Bob Dylan- Most Of The Time
2008-02-23 12:57:00 Happy Saturday! This Saturday's favorite movie moment is a video clip of the most romantic and heartbreaking scenes in the movie, Eternal Sunshine Of The Spotless Mind , starring Jim Carrey and Kate Winslet, with Bob Dylan singing 'Most Of The Time ' in the background. If you haven't seen Eternal Sunshine Of The Spotless Mind, you should definitely rent it- it's one of those films everyone can relate too, I promise.Have a happy, fun, dreamy, and if possible, romantic week-end - and remember: if romance is not in the picture right now, to have a happy, dreamy, and fun week-end anyway- because the way I see it, three out of four isn't bad- "Most of the Time" anyhow. :))TEXT Posted by Ann Clemmons

Nightmares Dominate Tuesday's Question
2008-02-21 07:15:00 I know this frightening image goes against everything A Nice Place In The Sun stands for - what I mean is, this is supposed to be a cheer you up blog. But, I guess you can look at it is way- this will be one of the few times you will see such a ferocious critter on my blog, because I don't do mean. Furthermore, this frightful image does have a purpose, which is to illustrate how scary my visiting bloggers answers were to this weeks Tuesday's Question ; Have You Ever Had A Reoccurring Dream? The question asked Have You Ever Had A Reoccurring Dream?, but most of my readers reoccurring dreams were nightmares, hence, the scary picture. Although to be fair, not all of my readers reoccurring dreams were scary. For instance, my good friend Sandee pointed out, and you'll notice when you read this post, that Robert at Observations from the back 40, has a nice reoccurring dream. In addition, I Norris at Lit(erature) On Fire writes a touching story about her best dream, so they are not all t... More About: Nightmares

New Orleans in 1908 -- 100 Years Ago
2008-02-17 19:02:00 My father e-mailed me these great photographs of New Orleans in 1908 --100 years ago, that I thought you may enjoy viewing. We still have street cars, horse drawn carriages, and of course Mardi Gras, which you can learn more about here, however, aside from the obvious the city hasn't changed much, which I suppose is part of its charm- although horses aren't used to pull Mardi Gras floats anymore. If you are a traveler and haven't passed through New Orleans we would love to have you, even after Hurricane Katrina's tirade the Big Easy is still a great place to visit. The Fifth Sentence On Page 123 Meme
2008-02-16 07:49:00 Jamie at Duward Discussion tagged my great friend Sandee at Comedy Plus with the Fifth Sentence Book meme. Mary The Teach at Answers To The Questions tagged Jamie and titled the Meme the Book Meme whereas my sweet friend Sandee at Comedy Plus referred to it as the 123 Book Meme. So, I thought, I would come up with my own title as well so this meme is called the The Fifth Sentence On Page 123 meme, but it's all the same meme.Thank you Sandee for always thinking of me! I enjoyed writing this meme because I love books, and the book I'm reading was right by me, so it was as easy as pie- that is, it was as easy as eating pie - not baking one, because it is not easy to bake a pie...Anyway, all you have to do with this meme is find the book closest to you that has at least 123 pages, and...I don't know why I'm writing this- because here are the rules...Here are the Rules:1. Pick up the nearest book ( of at least 123 pages).2. Open the book to page 123.3. Find the fifth sente...
Happy Valentines Day!
2008-02-14 21:16:00 More Graphics at pYzam.comThis picture reminds me of Valentines Day in Elementary school- I remember decorating valentine envelopes the day before the holiday, and hanging them on the wall for our fellow students to drop their valentine cards in the next day. Our teachers planned on every student getting a card, in fact, they told us to tell our mothers how many children were in the classroom, just to be sure everyone would have enough cards... Except, our teachers and parents were in denial about one thing - some students get more cards than others anyway - it's sort of like picking sides for a team. I couldn't wait to get home and see which boys gave me which card and what the card would say, and I remember not getting as many cards some years as I did others...and I recall a few children getting just a few valentines. And those poor kids going to the teacher and literally showing them their bag with two or three cards in it, when 32 kids were in the classroom. Then the teac... More About: Happy
