A Christmas Plum Pudding
2007-12-21 23:02:00
A faint coat of pollen blanketed the top of my grandmother’s front porch throughout my childhood. The pollen on the porch was a constant source of aggravation for my grandmother, who apparently declared war on the pollutant long before any of us were born. Everyone gravitated to the front porch at grandmother's house, which was my families stomping ground for several generations; our place to touch base with each other and visit my grandmother, especially on holidays. My grandmother complained of pollen every time we visited, forever using the occasion to draft her family in her war against the contamination of her front porch. However, her complaining did result in our desire to please her, so she managed to recruit many loyal elves in the process. Moreover, it encouraged her grandchildren to happily run around slinging a soapy front porch mop, in an effort to become proficient mopers.Since my grandparents bought the house when my mother was ten, the front porch endured three gen...

My Readers' Most Memorable Christmas
2007-12-19 21:53:00
"What's Your Favorite Christmas Memory?" I appreciate everyone's touching responses to this years last Tuesday's Question. And as always, I posted each bloggers comment along with a link to their blog. That way if you like a bloggers response you can visit their blog by just clicking on the blog name. They're all great responses from dynamite blogs so I know you'll enjoy their memories, I certainly did. In addition, I hope you can see the above image of the gigantic blown up "Mike" the tiger, on one of my neighbors lawns. My hometown goes crazy over Christmas lights and L.S.U. football and "Mike" the Tiger, is the University's mascot. I attended Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge a century ago, which is the home of "Mike" the live tiger on campus. There have been many Mikes over the years, in fact during the 1950's Tulane University in New Orleans painted Mike green one time and another time pranksters cut the lock on his cage, freeing the tiger for hours. I'm n...

My Christmas Card And Tuesday's Question: What Is Your Most Memorable Chr
2007-12-18 09:58:00
What Is Your Most Memorable Christmas Moment Or Event? You know this morning I realized that this is the last Tuesday's Question this year, because next Tuesday is Christmas Day and the next Tuesday will be New Years Day!Therefore, I decided I better give out my homemade Christmas card before Christmas actually arrived. I hope you all have a happy and save holiday season.Oh, and by the way, in case this card is hard to make out...it's my A Nice Place In The Sun icon of a mother bird in her empty nest. She's looking through the window of a house decorated for Christmas... It's a shame, but this children's picture book writer can barely draw a straight line. Although, everything in life is a trade off, so if I wanted my card to come from my heart, I would have to involve my hand- :)Happy holidays again~Now, to the business of Tuesday question:What is your Most Memorable Christmas Moment Or Event? Readers Comments To Tuesday's Question And Harold at Chicken Coop
2007-12-16 23:29:00
Everyone did a wonderful job commenting on the second to last Tuesday's Question : Who is The Most Obnoxious Person You've Ever Met however, due to an emergency I never posted the comments. (You thought I forgot didn't you?) Well, I would never forget the most beautiful people in the world- my readers. Therefore, here are the fantastic accounts of the most outrageous people my fellow bloggers have ever met, you know, those wonderful unforgettable people in our lives- or the most outrageous anyway. Here's my hero:I've already written one post about the most obnoxious person in my life: my first boss Harold at a chicken franchise called Chicken Coop . That post is about a time I stapled Harold's tie to his shirt while he and I made dinner orders. Experts say that people are not born mean, but Harold was. He had a big button red nose that would put Rudolph to shame, and a little mustache, so go figure. Harold had the weirdest looking face and an appearance I’ll never forget: h...

I'm a Little Nutty...
2007-12-16 08:26:00
Dawn from Twisted Sister, Sandee from Comedy Plus, Eric from Hollydale Speedcat Page, Jos from Additional Blog Love, from NoDirectOn (not:NoDirection) and Kimberly at Purple Frogcat (who, by the way created this award) all happen to think I'm a little nutty! And you know, I've heard it said, if you hear gossip about someone one time, it's probably just a matter of opinion... and if you hear the same thing again, well... maybe there's something to it and maybe not... but if three people say the same thing... chances are there's some element of truth somewhere... So how do I defend myself if five people say they think I'm a little nutty? Boy! I hope I don't run into a Christmas cook, because I'm in danger of being tossed in a fruitcake! However, you may really think I'm nutty when I say this, but I'm actually a little proud to be called nutty, it's kind of interesting, plus the squirrel on the award is cute... so thanks to everyone who thinks I'm nutty! I thi...
Sleepless In Seattle
2007-12-15 13:35:00
Happy Saturday! This Saturday's favorite movie moment is the phone scene from Sleepless in Seattle . Sleepless in Seattle is a Christmas movie favorite with stars Tom Hanks and one of my supposed look alikes Meg Ryan (I tried Speedys celebrity photos from his blog, but didn't have the courage to post it. But, Speedy's is fun to watch and the pictures really do look like him, you should go see it) anyway, Meg and Tom Hanks are at the top of their game in this picture. Also, in the next few days be sure to watch for my blogging buddies comments to both this week and lasts Tuesdays Question which were,The Most Outrageous Person You've Ever Known and Silly Spills and The Results because as always they're fantastic. Have a fun and happy Saturday!TEXT Posted by Ann Clemmons

Silly Spills And The Results!
2007-12-12 22:19:00
Hello, and welcome to a belated Tuesday's Question the title of which is from my great and special friend Sandee from Comedy Plus. Sandee suggested in one of her kind comments to my I've had an accident post that I ask the following question, since I already have an easy answer. Here's her comment in which she's also speaking to my best buddy Christy:"Christy, thanks for the update. She is where she needs to be...in bed healing up. Big hug to you Ann. I miss you like crazy and like Christy said, can't wait to hear your story about this. Hey, you can do a Tuesday question about silly spills and their results. :)"And Big hug back to you Sandee! So here is my answer to Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday's Question this week. Also, I will post the links and comments to last Tuesday's Question The Most Obnoxious Person You've Ever Met on Friday along with this one. Thanks again Sandee from Comedy Plus and I love ya:Authors note- Please forgive my delay with this post and in posti...

Just a quick post to thank everyone who wished me well and give an update on where I've been! Also, I want to extend my heartfelt thanks to my best friend and writing partner Christy from Christy's Coffee Break for updating my comments and watching over my blog this past week. You did a wonderful job Christy without being asked- you're a god send and my touch stone and I don't know what I would do without you!!!!I apologize to all of you for my absence, and I'll be back in action tomorrow with Tuesday's Question. Yes, I know tomorrow is Wednesday, but I hope you'll bare with me and stop and participate anyway. I've had some unexpected complications due to hitting my head a little too hard - although I thought I had a hard enough head to withstand anything, evidently I was wrong- in addition, I certainly didn't expect to have such a difficult time returning. I've posted 269 posts in 7 months on A Nice Place In The Sun and never missed a day, so you can imagine my disapp...

Favorite Movie Moments
2007-12-02 05:10:00
This week-ends favorite movie moment on A Nice Place In The Sun kicks off the month of December with It's a Wonderful Life staring one of my favorite actors, James Stewart. The song In My Life by my favorite band, The Beatles, accompanies scenes from the beginning to the end of the film. I think In My Life is the perfect song choice for this movie classic that brings back Christmas memories for many of us during the Christmas holiday. If you haven't seen the movie, look for it on cable or rent it this holiday season, and if you have, enjoy this video and have a great week-end.TEXT Posted by Ann Clemmons

Online Dating Is Not For Me
2007-12-01 03:29:00
I think online dating sites are alright, in fact, I have a friend who met a nice person from an online dating membership. The relationship didn’t work out, but that wasn’t the site’s fault, and she's still a member. But for some reason, I can't get used to the idea myself, but I haven't a thing against others who join... Online dating is just not my thing, so when a friend talked me into joining a site awhile back, (the result of many generously poured glasses of wine,) my response to my interested suitors e-mails included the following excuses; "I’m sorry, but I can’t, I have to work...my head hurts... I have to baby sit my unborn grandchildren"... I ended up with the online name “Tinkerbell” and Tinkerbell enjoys every hobby under the sun, she works out regularly, has a perfect body...and on and on... I posted a copy of some of my profile at the end of this post so that you can get an idea of what I mean. My profile is so unreal a two year old monkey could guess I...

The Just Say Hi.com Award
2007-11-29 21:19:00
Awarded to Ann Clemmons O.K. Now I'm overwhelmed, well actually blown away floating off in the sky somewhere over houses, cities, and farms! Little children looked toward the clouds today and wondered, "What is that object in the sky? Is it a bird, a plane, Superman? What on earth could it be?" However, I'm sure they were surprised to discover a blogger floating around in bewilderment, with a shocked expression on her face!Thank you Just Say Hi . com for this award, I'm truly speechless, which is indeed a rarity.Just Say Hi.com is a free online Dating Site and I'm not sure how they even knew A Nice Place In The Sun existed, much less thought enough of it to offer such a nice award. Just Say Hi.com looks like a fun site not to mention the fact that it's free. Do you think it may have had something to do with Tuesday's Question the other day?Which just happened to be What is the Worst Date You've Ever Had? Maybe Just Say Hi.com is trying to rescue me fr...

Readers Comments When Asked: What Was The Worst Date Of Your Life?
2007-11-28 15:31:00
Yesterday's Tuesday's Question was What Was Your Worst Date?My favorite part of Tuesday's Question is Wednesday when I share my comments with the rest of my readers. Everyone including those of you who aren't bloggers enjoy the comments to Tuesday's Question, and I thank you all for your support. The following comments are fantastic:Polli from Polliwog's Pond Great question Ann. I've had my share of horrible dates. I did most of my dating in Alaska, where the "odds are good, but the goods are odd!" Some of the dates are too embarrasing to tell here. But my favorite all-time worst date story was a blind date. The guy picked me up, proceeded to interview me for marriage, then took me to dinner. Dinner consisted of chips n' salsa in his grungy car, in the parking lot of the bowling alley. After we ate, we went to the grocery store parking lot, where he drove like a madman all over the lot, crashing into stray carts. We never had a 2nd date.Marja at DutchcornerHi Ann Ouch tha...

What Was The Worst Date Of Your Life?
2007-11-27 22:30:00
Hopefully, your worst date wasn't as bad as this image suggests... Although, it wouldn't surprise me if it was because I'll believe anything after what I've experienced...Welcome to my eighteenth Tuesdays Question! I can't believe I've posted a Tuesday's Question for eighteen weeks in a row, with the exception of September 11th, a painful memory in the mind of my countrymen. That being said, I would like to announce an idea I've been rolling around in my zany brain...for a celebration post in honor of Tuesday's Question, on or by my twenty first question.Like maybe a contest... where I can actually give away a prize and brag badges to my readers with the most comments...and recognize those of you who have been so supportive over the last eighteen weeks, or I guess it will be the twentieth week by then...In any event, it's not far away, and next week I'll have a better idea of where I'm going after brainstorming... I just wanted to put a bug in your ear... wait a min...

Stopped For Tuesday's Question?
2007-11-27 19:48:00
Stop for Tuesday's Question ? I sat at my desk ready to work at 8 am my time, (crazy time) and my computer refused to cooperate . The PC box said something about needing to be up-dated and being low on memory...excuse me? I'm low on memory everyday....what kind of hair brained excuse is that? Then, as if it hadn't already added insult to injury, the arrogant box head stayed on the same screen refusing to move until I agreed to comply with it's instructions! It was war...and I don't know who declared it...all I know is that it took up my entire morning! This proves that computers are too temperamental to replace people, and cannot be trusted...ever...In any event we've worked it out and I will post Tuesday's Question shortly....so please consider coming back in a little while? I promise it will be fun, and I haven't let you down yet, have I?Oh ...maybe I shouldn't ask that question... TEXT Posted by Ann Clemmons
The Funniest Public Act I've Ever Witnessed
2007-11-25 20:38:00
After writing a second draft of this post to send to a local magazine, I decided to repost it for my readers who missed it due to the holiday. In addition I wanted to have it posted in my archives. If you've already read it, enjoy the changes, and if you haven't read it, enjoy your first read- plus wish it luck out in the scary world of print. I mean, what if it's published beside an unkind article that is mean to it, and it's unable to run away because it's printed on the page? There were several lakes surrounding the university campus where I went to school years ago; so on our way to class we were joined by "duck beggar" families quaking away for their daily breakfast. It was annoying, because they were loud and downright aggressive if you didn’t offer them something to eat. This is why the funniest thing I've ever witnessed in public involved a family of ducks. One morning, while reading over my notes for a class on the side of a duck home, I overheard a human couple a...

Happy Saturday Song From Mr Hollands Opus
2007-11-24 12:19:00
I wanted to post a scene in Mr.Hollands Opus, where the character portrayed by Jean Louisa Kelly sings this Gershwin tune, but the video keep skipping- so I posted her performing it on what I'm guessing is David Letterman- the video didn't offer a clue. Jean Kelly's version is one of the best version's of Someone To Watch Over Me that I've ever heard. Anyway, Saturday 's favorite movie moment is a scene in Mr Hollands Opus in which the character she portrays performs this tune. Have a happy Saturday and I will post again before the end of the week-end. Enjoy your day~TEXT Posted by Ann Clemmons

A Roar For Powerful Words

I wish I knew where The Shameless Lions Writing Circle is because I assume that's who created the A Roar For Powerful Words Award. I love the imagery of roaring words flying across the internet, in addition to the purple statue and title. This is a wonderful compliment for any wordsmith to receive and I won't forget my good friend Dawnfrom Twisted Sister, and her kind recognition. Thank you Dawn! I'm glad Meleah from Momma Mia Mea Culpa nominated Dawn at Twisted Sister, because Dawn nominated me! Thank you Dawn you're the one of the greatest! What outrageous, funny, or plain weird act have you ever witnessed in a public place? This was the question I asked my readers this week for Tuesday's Question, and boy sis I get some great comments. Find out what bloggers experienced the following events, two teenagers displays of public affection, an intoxicated (and already arrested) flasher, a traffic stopper eating a hot dog, a "it's-not- a- secret" admirer at a food mart, a man in a hurry for a burger, and more....I've provided a link so that you can visit these hilarious bloggers sites, as I'm sure you will want to do after reading their responses-have fun!And a special thanks to the participates for the fantastic comments, laughs, and friendship! Hello and welcome ladies and gentleman to Tuesdays Question which is, What Is The Funniest Or Most Outrageous Public Act You've Ever Witnessed? "A Southerner Talks Music"
2007-11-16 23:40:00
I love the following quote by Mark Twain : "A Southerner Talks Music ". It reminds me of a time long ago, but not far away: my childhood in the South. Mark Twain was right; Southerners do speak, talk, and walk a sort of musical metaphor, and my grandmother was a Southerner. You might have noticed Southern expressions translated over the internet, but you haven't heard the ones spoken around me, growing up in the South during the sixties. My parents owned a Quarter horse ranch that attracted people from all over the South, so I picked up expressions from all over, including Texas, even though we lived in the deep South. The woman in this picture is Nana, my maternal grandmother, on her front porch. My son is beside her with "Baby Doll," my mother's doll when she was a little girl. Nana died in September of 2001, upset about September 11, and still spouting off advice in the hospital before a botched operation took her life. My mother and uncle have since sold the house along with...
