Bloggers Unite To Stop Abuse
2007-09-27 08:53:00
Aeschylus "And even in our sleep pain that cannot forget falls drop by drop upon the heart, and in our own despair, against our will, comes wisdom to us by the awful grace of God."I 've teamed up with a group of bloggers on blog catalog today who are blogging to stop abuse.Everyday we read the horrifying details of some form of abuse in the newspaper. Whether the article is about the victim or the perpetrator it's origin is always the same, the plot always familiar, and the results life altering. By blogging together in an effort to stop abuse, we're in fact saying no more abuse, no way, not on our watch! It's horrifying to read that some 40 million children are subject to abuse this year alone, and that many of that number, will never speak of it. Their perpetrators will move on and the world will keep turning in much the same way, except in the eyes of the child involved. For them, their nightmarish existence will continue somewhere in the back of their mind,...

Who Was Your Favorite Teen Idol? My Readers Response
2007-09-26 11:12:00
Yesterday's Tuesday Question asked, "Who Was Your Favor ite Teen Idol ?" and I was lucky enough to receive comments from the most entertaining bloggers on the net ! The following bloggers are all super talented people with a fantastic sense of humor, that I'm sure were spectacular teenagers! So pull up a chair or couch, but be sure to get a coke, coffee, or whatever you need, and come walk with us down memory lane! And be sure and check out these bloggers sites before you leave, they all have great blogs! Thanks to all of you reading and those who generously contributed to a another fun day and another fun Tuesday's Question! You've made me feel mighty groovy! My friend indeed and first commenter yesterday was the unforgettable Sandee, from Comedy Plus! I bet Sandee was fun to have a class with! For one thing, she doesn't follow rules, and that means I would've definitely been her sidekick. I always hung around people like Sandee, because of their dry wit, kindness ...

Get Smorty!
2007-09-26 10:07:00
I have found a great blog advertising site that helps connect bloggers who wish to blog for moneywith prospective advertisers. The name of the site is Smorty, and it's most attractive features seem to be the quick process of making a profit while connecting the blogger with the appropriate advertiser.Smorty's set up and friendly atmosphere are attracting both bloggers and advertisers daily, and it looks as though I'm one of those bloggers. Smorty connects advertisers to bloggers most likely to have an interest in writing an opinion about their product or service. I felt a refreshing sense of freedom about the idea of connecting bloggers to advertisers according to their interests and blog theme. One reason for this is if I’m going to get paid for an opinion on a product and service, I would rather my posts include the companies most “suited” to my interests and taste. In fact, I really like how Smorty calls advertising opportunities “suitable campaigns” when no...

Who Was Your Favorite Teen Idol?
2007-09-25 10:17:00
Thank You for coming to Tuesdays Question! Who was your favorite teen idol? I'm referring to the pre-teen years before or at the age of fifteen, not your favorite band when you were an older teenager, I mean a popular pre-teen idol. Well, I guess if you didn't have a favorite teen idol it will be o.k. to tell us your favorite band or singer when you were a teenager, but I was thinking in terms of bubble gum. If I were asking the question who is your favorite rock star, I would have used a different video as an example, like The Beatles or someone. So, if you answer with the name of a rock star it will make me look uncool and we wouldn't want that, now would we? The video above is my favorite pre-teen idol, who doubled as my make believe husband, and father to our slew of children! We lived in my writing cottage on the beach, when the kids weren't in school, and I spent the summers writing while he... well, he sang of course! I sang, I Woke Up In Love This Morn...

Imaginary Friends
2007-09-24 11:50:00
Did you have an imaginary friend when you were a child? I did. His name was Bobby and he was nice all the time, even after I made him drink four glasses of milk one week-end. I think we've all had some experience with an imaginary friend; in fact, I think some of us still hang out with ours from time to time. In fact I feel bad because recently I watched a woman in the front seat of her car work hard at driving her point home to a make believe buddy. She flailed her arms around in the air, and along with her animated expressions left the words “You- just- don’t- understand!” dangling in the air! When she turned in my direction to reiterate her point, her eyes met mine! After which, we stared at each other like a couple of deer caught in headlights! It's freaky to watch people talk to themselves, but I try to remember they’re only speaking to imaginary friends, so that's o.k. isn’t it? Besides, we think we’re invisible in our cars, so it seems l...

The Craziest Experience Of My Life
2007-09-22 17:25:00
An old friend of mine reminded me today of an embarrassing incident that happened to me in high school. It was one the craziest experiences of my life. When I was a teenager, my friends and I rode around in the car and listened to the radio until the wee hours of the morning. The Mississippi river ran through the city where we lived and we shared its strong undercurrents and muddy water attitude. The river road was long with beautiful scenery, so it was perfect to drive down when you wanted to listen to the radio. My friends and I also spent time on the ferry that crossed from our city to another back and forth across the river all night and day. I used to stand on the front of the boat and sing the Barbra Streisand song On A Clear Day as if I were on the boat in the movie Funny Girl. Before the days of videocassettes, MTV, and DVDs, the car radio was the most popular form of entertainment, with the exception of going to the movies. In addition to the river road another favorite drivi...

Let's Have Lunch!
2007-09-21 13:03:00
Do you remember what day it is? Yep, it's Friday, and I almost forgot, so I'm sure most of you have. Last week you may remember I started what I titled "What's happening in the picture?" The picture was of a grocery shopper, her child, and their little dog leaving a grocery store. (Actually the lady in this picture looks like last week's grocery shopper.)Anyway, I've decided to make this a weekly post, just like my Tuesday's Question, where the participants posts are posted in an entry the next day; it's fun. And when my readers read my post tomorrow, they will also read what you wrote. It's a good way to meet new friends too, because I will also include a link to your blog, just like in the Tuesday Question post.In other words, instead of writing a review of your site you are basically giving my readers a taste of what you have to offer, because if my readers like what they read here, they'll click on your link!I'm only trying to motivate you to participate,...

My Nest Party Rocked !
2007-09-19 09:01:00
My nest rock and rolled so hard I was scared it might fall from the tree! Tuesday's Question was so much fun! Those of you I thought I knew well, I now know better, and those I didn't know, I will not soon forget! You are a great bunch of people! Thanks to everyone who stopped and answered not just one, but four Tuesday's questions! I feel like I know everyone of you better and your answers were close to what I would've thought. What's amazing about blogging, is how well you get to know the people you correspond with each day, in much the same way you would if spoke to them each day in person. It's so exciting and even more wonderful to realize you can actually have a weekly party! You rockers know how to have fun! You're special people, not just for sharing information about yourselves, but for taking the time to think through and organize your answers. I was impressed with your good natured attitudes and spirit for honesty and fun! Thanks and thanks and th...

What Character Do You Identify With The Most In A Book Or Movie?
2007-09-18 12:00:00
Hello, and welcome to my empty nest, in addition to my seventh weekly question party, entitled Tuesday's Question! I’m indebted to all of you, especially my regulars, because without you, well, you could really talk about an empty nest! That would be terrible, and I hope that doesn’t happen, ever! J Tuesday’s question is a weekly party on my part of the internet or empty nest if you'll humor me. You make an impact on my life every time you visit, and I hope we'll know each other better each time you do. I’m staging the questions as I do at my huge social gatherings down here in Dixie Land USA. Where everyone knows everyone better after coming a few times, if that’s any indication of what can happen. Actually, I’ve only only tried it a few times so ignore the typical hyperbole comments. Around mid-summer while planning a party in my home I borrowed the party idea from Joyce's party idea's on the day time show 'The View.' It’...

Don't Forget Tuesday's Question!
2007-09-18 02:45:00
Just a reminder: To stop by for Tuesday's Question !Tomorrow's question is a good one! Want a hint?Have you read many books or seen many movies lately?Oops, I guess I shouldn't ask a question with a question, ...or answer a question with a question? Well...let me say, I thinka great way to meet people is to ask questions. It's also a great way to have, well...fun!I love characters in books and movies because they entertain us with people and situations we can relate too! What I mean is art imitates life, and well, books and movies are art, ...but of course you know that. Anyway, the characters in books and movies often share mannerisms, ideas, values, and many other characteristics with us, and people close to us. Have you ever seen or read about a character in a film, or book that reminds you of someone you know? Or better yet yourself? Yes, I know, you have haven't you? One of my friends has given each member of our group of high school buddies the name of the character we ...

Bobbarama's Best Kept Secret Award!
2007-09-17 09:28:00
Bob, from Bobbarama.com apparently kept the names of many yet to be discovered blogs a secret until he was ready to reveal his gift of acceptance and friendship, in the form of the Best Kept Secret Award .Actually Bob has two beautifully designed awards he announced yesterday called the Blogiversary Awards Only someone with a big heart could make up such a name! In addition to the Best kept Secret Award, he also revealed the The Break Out Blogger Award. I'm happy to announce that Bob included A Nice Place In The Sun as one his first-ever recipients of this incredible honor, and I just had to let my readers know...immediately!Golly it feels so good to receive recognition from such an outstanding blog!I am truly shattered! This post is not my official acceptance post because I need more time to select the blogs who reflect the spirit of the award. This is what Bob said about the Best Kept Secret Award;"We all have a Best Kept Secret blogger or two we visit regularly — a blogger w...
The Law Of Attraction
2007-09-15 17:30:00
You have been careful when using the law of attraction. My mother used to tell me the best place to meet someone is in the grocery store. Well, that was one of the many things she told me that was pure bull! If you read my blog, you know I hurt my finger awhile back and didn’t have any band-aids. Well, from that moment on, I haven’t remembered a thing I needed from the grocery store. I will forget what I went there to get, whether I write it down or not. The fact that I will forget half of my list, leading to some disastrous happening, I believe to be the result of the law of attraction. It is a universal law, I know, and one I wholeheartedly believe in. The law of attraction has changed my life and I’m grateful. It's also the reason for most of the things happening to me, because it's the result of the way I think. For example, my most recent experiences at the grocery store are a direct result of my own imagination. If something has happened to me alread...

What's Happening In This Picture?
2007-09-13 09:51:00
I wonder what is going on with this lady? I know she's grocery shopping, but there is always something going on beneath the surface, and I wonder what that something is with her?I ‘ve been looking at this picture everyday for a few weeks now, because it's posted by the grocery list I never use at the bottom of this page. I put it there to remind me of what I need from the store. After I wrote the post about my getting trapped with my hand under the bathroom faucet, I decided to post the list as a reminder of what I needed from the store. It was the day I cut my finger and couldn't move my hand away from the faucet because of the lack of one band-aid in the house! For some reason, especially lately, I can’t remember what to get from the grocery store. For example, this week I forgot cat food three times, milk once, and bread, too many times to count! I thought if I put a reminder in a place I look everyday, I would stop forgetting stuff, and what bet...

2007-09-12 22:31:00
Christy, from Totally Fabulous and I have created this Totally Fabulous Award for bloggers! We will be giving this award out to those bloggers who are fun, cool, and of course Totally Fabulous! If you'd like to pass this award to some more fabulous people then go right ahead, we have lifted the limit you can give out, and it really isn't required you give out any at all, it's totally up to you!(no pun intended) Christy suggested we make the award free of any rules to begin with, and gave out as many as she saw fit. Then our great friend and hilarious blogger, Sandee, from Comedy Plus played by her own rules and gave out as many as she wanted as well. lol! When I saw that the two of these bloggers (who are obviously more experienced bloggers than I) gave out more than five awards, I thought, well...I missed it up again, ... and now I have some "'splaining to do" as Ricky Ricardo would say, ...or should I say an apology to make? I'm sorry, ... but happy to have a chance to ...

Bobbarama's Humor Carnival Accepted My Submission This Morning
2007-09-12 13:50:00
I’m a happy camper today, and the reason for my happiness is that I’m a part of Bobbarama’s humor Carnival ! I submitted my post, The Craziest Experience I’ve ever had, a few weeks ago, but I wasn’t sure if it would make it into the greatest show on the web! Well, if my submission was about the craziest experience I've ever had, then today I'm writing about one of the happiest happenings I've ever experienced. With the exception of the birth of my child, of course, and every mother knows what I mean when I say that! Bobbarama’s Humor Carnival's first edition debuted in December of 2006, and is now on it's 9th issue. The carnival is hosted by comical wizard Bob of Bobbarama.com, who made the following statement regarding his commitment to his readers last December, “ If it’s not fun, though, it’s not here.” Bob has kept his commitment by “razzle dazzling” his readers ever since. When I started blogging in April, Bobbarama’s hu...

'No More Diapers For Ducky '
2007-09-10 01:05:00
In the book No More Diaper s For Ducky , Bernette Ford and Sam Williams invite us into the world of Piggy and Ducky. Ducky and Piggy share a common challenge facing all pre-schoolers today, which is how and when to get out of diapers. Children learn by imitating other children, and love reading about characters with whom they can identify, in addition to characters who identify with each other. These two friends are friends who can relate, except of course for the fact that Ducky is still in diapers. To say Piggy and Ducky are lovable is a gross understatement since in this book lovable is a given, with William's cuddly illustrations, and Bernette's matter-of-fact prosing, you will find yourself wanting to get your hands on a copy. That's why I couldn't wait to read it as part of a label that I decided to add every Sunday entitled "Afternoons at Barnes And Noble" (Just a way to organize, as well as implement my picture book reviews into a post.) Last time, I...

I inherited this nonsensical drama from my great friends at Twisted Sister Totally Pissed Off. The hilarious duo inherited the nonsense story from ...why paisley??? The rules are added from Gracie, and the story was created byMother's Home. I had a lot of fun adding to everyone's words, and I would like to thank my crazy friends for thinking of me. I added my paragraph at the end and included the links I tagged to carry on the saga. Here are the rules from Gracie’s site.1. Copy and paste the story below, and the rules, on your blog.2. Find out who you’re going to tag. (2-3 people, or more, if you wish)3. Write one or two sentences to continue the story, and use the titles of the blogs you’re tagging or any word(s) associated with them as keywords in the links you include in your part of the story.4. Remember to tell your taggees that you’ve tagged them!5. Feel free to use this and start your own viral link story. I’d very much appreciate a link back to M...

I Think I'm Tired
2007-09-07 15:39:00
It was raining, so I ran to my car and jumped inside. I could see my neighbor from inside the car, waving to me, but the rain was so loud I couldn't hear him, only see his mouth moving as he stood in his doorway. I wondered what he was trying to say. After all, I was running with a purse on top of my head in the pouring down rain. Wasn't it obvious I couldn't hear him? Although I was relieved when I got in the car, I felt so tired I could hardly hold my eyes open while driving down the road. I’ve been working hard lately, trying to save money for this and that. For example, my cat Simon’s root canal, in addition to the cost of his therapy. Every time something unexpected happens, it threatens the wind in my sail, throwing my life off course, and delaying my dream ship from docking. I’ve been o.k. though, well, manag...

My Blogging Buddies Hit The Question Right Out Of The Park
2007-09-05 11:30:00
That's right, my blogging buddies hit Tuesday's question right out of the park yesterday! It reminded of a time when a friend's son, Bobbarama a bat against a baseball so hard he sent it flying smack dab in the middle of a concession stand! There were two twisted sisters sisters totally-pissed-off about the whole thing. By the end of the day we were all so tired we went to Christy's Coffee Break to recover. Anyway, getting back to my post, I hadn't any idea that so many of my readers could write comedy, plus such articulate posts? Tuesday's Question for several weeks now, and I've had remarkable responses, but yesterday really blew me away! I'm proud of these talented bloggers, who took time out from their own blogs to answer my silly 'Tuesday Question!' When I first thought of ways to connect with readers, I was told not to expect much in the way of participation, unless I was going to offer a healthy gratuity. However, my readers have proven that you can trust your i...

2007-09-05 02:53:00
Some of you may have noticed that I have PayPerPost buttons in my sidebar. That is because Pay Per Post has made it easier for freelance writers to supplement a blogging career, writing about products and services in there blog category! By providing the publisher (me) an opportunity to choose their own advertisers, Pay Per Post has become one of the most popular and reliable marketplaces on the web.. What I liked best is the outlined details written within the opportunities. The specific instructions make it easy to understand what an advertiser is looking for in posts about their company, product, or service. In addition, I feel more comfortable writing about the products and services that interest me and my readers, in addition to knowing what’s expected of me in the process. I have many friends already writing in the Pay per Post marketplace, who really enjoy it, and are satisfied with their results. I‘m optimistic about the potential success of my decision ...

The First Time I Was Fired From A Job
2007-09-04 02:25:00
My first job was at a Chicken Restaurant called Chicken Coop, when I was fourteen years old. Everyone in my high school worked there so it was like going to school again after school everyday, and boy did we have a blast. I was fired and rehired on many occasions, and for various reason’s the worst of which I ‘m writing about today, in honor of Labor day. Let me start out by saying I was distracted by one of the managers, Mark, who was the good looking one with sandy colored hair and hazel eyes. We had another manager who was Mark’s exact opposite: Harold. Harold was the owner’s son and for some reason he hated me, well, it could have been because I moved my mouth when a friend of my spoke under the counter one time at the register. In other words my mouth would move but my friends voice come out when asking customers for their order.I guess that was poor form, but Harold really did seem to have it out for me from day one anyway. He had the weirdest looking face...

My Cat Simon Will Not Let Me Write!
2007-09-02 15:13:00
I am sooo frustrated if this post is posted that means I'm winning the fight! My cat Simon is at it again, he will not let me write! I think he's mad because I took him to the vet Friday and he has to have a root canal! It was time for his shots and his other vet stuff, and he had a swollen lip. I thought the vet needed to examine, ….uh, excuse me… Sorry, I had to get up from my desk, go into the kitchen, and tap him off the counter! That’s another thing, I can’t find the regular food I feed him….soo he’s mad about that too! What was I saying? Oh yes, I remember, ...the vet visit yesterday, …. it was awful.. Excuse me again… Simon's regular vet is a cat lover, that coos and talks to him in a ridiculous tone's, but she wasn't there yesterday. When we put his cat taxi (that he sleeps in at home) on the table in the examining room, Simon walked out of it with ease, expecting his regular vet. He did his slow purring prance, and swung his beh...

You Make Me Smile Award
2007-08-31 16:41:00
Sandee, from Comedy Plus made me smile yesterday when she gave me the 'You Make Me Smile ' award! Isn't the 'You Make Me Smile' award fantastic? This award says, "You lift me up" throughout the square in addition to the bright green and yellow colors. It looks like a four leaf clover, which seems to suggest how lucky we are to have the bloggers who inspire and support us each day. I 'm grateful for the bloggers who create these awards, because of their kindness we have a symbol of appreciation for our friends, and beautiful designs with uplifting sayings to display on our blogs. The Smile Award was created by Bridget at "...And miles we go before we sleep..."and here are the words on her post..T" The thing that I love most about blogging is that I learn so much about a person just by reading their blog. I have met MANY wonderful people with wonderful stories to tell and I am grateful every day for each person that I have the pleasure of crossing paths in life with. I wan...
