Submission for Palanca Awards Deadline on April 30
2008-04-03 09:10:00 Submission for Palanca Awards Deadline on April 30The Palanca Awards or Don Carlos Palanca Memorial Awards for Literature is the Philippines' most prestigious and most enduring literary awards and is dubbed as the "Pulitzer Prize" of the Philippines. Most, if not all, important or major Philippine authors have one or more Palancas in their belts. For some, especially to a young fictionist or poet, winning a Palanca is a sort of a "baptism of fire" denoting or announcing that one has arrived in Philippine literary circles.HistoryDon Carlos Palanca Sr. was a man who by the sheer dint of hard work, self-study, and integrity rose to become a successful businessman. He was a patron of educational institutions and instilled in his children the value of education. His heirs decided it fitting that his name be commemorated in an endeavor that would help enrich the country's cultural heritage. Thus, the Carlos Palanca Memorial Awards for Literature was established in 1950.The aims of the a... More About: Submission
Simplicated Series II Exhibit @ SM City Cebu Art Center
2008-04-03 09:07:00 Leopoldo Aguilar, Jr.'s "SIMPLICATED SERIES II"at SM City Cebu Art Center Neo-Tribe Founder, musician and visual artist, Leopoldo "Leo" Ceniza Aguilar, Jr. mounts his "Simplicated Series II" paintings at SM City Cebu Art Center. His works are a collection of fine, purist forms in a very radical transition from the "art-brut" and folksy wood and soil paintings circa Neo-Tribe founding years..This abrupt transition could have been the offshoot his change of residence to urban Metro Manila from his "barefoot" work in tribal villages and communities in Mindanao and environs. Yet the materials and tools he uses in making these "corporate-looking" paintings are still the "crudite" applicators, like that used in henna-tattooing and naturally found objects such as stones and soil...Leo has syncretized his style of then to his "simplicated" forms, even thru his precise concentric circles, optical lines, we experience still the ethnic and indigenous thru his subjects and obvious forms..Exhibi... Cloud Watchers: Understanding Neorealism In A Sequence Shot
2008-03-27 13:32:00 Cloud Watchers : Understanding Neorealism In A Sequence Shot One of the technical parameters of Neorealism is the concept of ' thesequence shot". I am reminded by I discussion I had with UP BaguioFine Arts friend regarding the " Cloud Watchers".I was a bit shaky intrying to determine how the whole exercise work. I never didunderstood the dialectics of creative form as the primary intentionbehind the physics of cloud movements. I neglected the process as theform evolves into a clear function.Explaining the geometry of cloud formations may hurt one's cognitivefunctions but the underlying meaning in the emotional narrative flowis realized when you take that initial step of suspending one'sdisbelief. I feel, at that point, one is able to discern the functionbehind the form .It is then a matter of creative observation in determining thefunction of any cloud formation. And as the clouds move, theframework of sequence shot reveals itself. It is truly a "a-ha"moment for me. Discove... More About: Cloud

And so is it with Joseph Lofranco's latest works in his one-person show entitled, "Alteration of Compulsive Lines".
