SWASH
2007-10-13 22:42:00 swashNow that Fashionweeks are over we have enought time to reconsider what was happening. I personally prefer all the smaller shows and exhibitions taking place besides the major defilées. Showrooms of young independent fashion designers showing young fresh labels and designs. Visiting a city during fashion week is always worth it even when you haven't got a ton of invitations in your bags. You'll always find something going on.I wish I had visited Swash's showroom. The british designduo - Sarah Swash und Toshio Yamanaka - lives and works in London, where they both aswell studied fashion design at the famous Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design.

GERMANY IS SO BORING
2007-10-10 23:51:00 Credit: welt.deHey people they are things going on elsewhere. Although I'm not a fan of huge magazines having blogs - because I kind of believe in citizen journalism and expect the blogger to be honest and personal which I believe isn't possible when you write a blog in the name of a major fashion magazine - I kind of like them for the insights they offer into worlds and places only a few of us little fashion obsessed will ever enter. Marc Jacobs will never ('but, never say never ;-)') post a comment on f&art as he did twice in Cathy Horyn's blog for the New York Times. The reason why I post this is my hourlong attempt (which finally led to a more or less to conclusive rensponse...) to comment on a post riz wrote in her blog mode et utopie where she asks for "the radical contingency between fashion and art". Well, "where is the interesting experimentation and exploration of the aesthetic, formalistic and material boundaries and contours between these two fields happening??" ... THE LOUIS VUITTON KINKY ART PERFORMANCE
2007-10-09 00:36:00 Marc Jacobs: "It all came from our collaboration with Richard Prince, who is an artist who appropriates references within his work, which is what we do?which is fine, so long as there are three differences in everything!"Wow. I don't know what to say. If I would have had to choose only one show to visit during Paris Fashion Week I would have loved to see the closing one by Marc Jacobs for Louis Vuitton. The pictures simply don't do it justice. I was very happy to find a (very crappy) video on youtube for you to enjoy. It was no fashion show, it was an art performance ('by the way, I'm really not fond about the Richard Prince bags. I never liked Louis Vuitton bags anyway'). The show was pure eyecandy. We had grandmasters like Nadja Auermann ('who still is one of my most favourite models ever'), Stepanie Seymour, Eva Herzigova and Naomi Campbell on the runway.Well and then there was spongebob: "I'm a fan of SpongeBob SquarePants?and for all I know, so is Rei Kawakubo (Comme d... THE RODNIK FACTORY
2007-10-08 20:37:00 Rodnik is a rock b(r)and although they deny it. I can't help it. These two boys rock and they don't even have a proper education (who needs this anyway?). I love that. Why not just doing it? Read all about it here. Clockwork Orange meets Andy Warhol's factory!? See their collection here.///Rodnik ist eine rock b(r)and ('=marke'), auch wenn sie es verneinen. BERNHARD WILHELM : MODEL IN THE BOX
2007-10-07 22:49:00 Bernhard Wilhelm is some kind of enfant terrible of Paris fashion week. The German born designer/artist showed his upcoming spring/summer 2008 collection in boxes ('well the models who wore the designs were put in boxes'). The German newspapers got furious and if you are really interessted in getting to know what this is all about, please read fashionwindows.com. Besides the highly political references I really liked the quote of Rodin's thinker safely packed in a box as if he was going to be sent somewhere else.Want to learn more about Mr. Wilhelm? More About: Helm
CLEMENS EN AUGUST
2007-10-07 15:51:00 Credit: clemens-en-augustWhat exactly is the sense in selling fashion in art institutions? No, I don't really expect an answer to this question, since we all seem to have gotten the point in fashion trying to revalue itself by collaborating with art.Alexander Brenninkmeijer, designer of Clemens en August ('which actually is a reference to the well known clothing company C&A, because, well Mr. Brenninkmeijer is part of the C&A family, but on his own now...'), doesn't have a store. The collections are only sold twice a year for three days in assorted galleries and museums. One of those selling periods started Friday September 22nd at KW Institute for Contemporary Art in ('where else') Berlin. But the tour isn't over by now. Please visit Clemens en August's website for a shopping event near you ('will try to check them out in Frankfurt at the end of october to see if the "art upgrade" works...').///Wo genau liegt der Sinn im Verkauf von Mode in Kunstinstitutionen? HUSSEIN CHALAYAN AND SHOWSTUDIO
2007-10-05 22:53:00 Via search&destroyIs this the future of fashionweek? Hussein Chalayan invited the fashion crowd into an art gallery to show his spring 2008 collection called "Readings" on a screen. No models, no photographers just a projection of a video done in collaboration with Nick Knight. Images were dispatched to attendees afterward. Sarah Mower from style file was there and wasn't so amused at all. As conceptual and avantgarde this presentation might have been it faced the audience with simple problems like a) "seeing the clothes clearly " and b) "having to demonstrate their competency as art-house film critics". ...The good thing about it is, that fashion addicts were able to view the show simultanously on their laptops at home and can still do it now.A making of can bee seen hereYou can say about it whatever you want. I love it. Although I don't think that this will be the future of fashion week, which actually is all about coming together and sitting in the first row (watching a... More About: Alaya
CINDY SHERMAN FOR BALENCIAGA
2007-10-05 02:20:00 Via Diorette @ tFsSince I simply can't afford buying and reading all the magazines I'd love to I sometimes are kind of slow in discovering interessting magazine stuff to post about. Lucky me I'm a member of the beloved fashion spot community where other magazine addicts like me scan and upload fashion spreads from every thinkable magazine worldwide. So I had a change to see the spread Cindy Sherman did herself for Vogue Paris' August 2007 issue (no wonder then that she showed up in the balenciaga show during paris fashion week three days ago...).Via Diorette @ tFs More About: Balenciaga , Bale
NINAKI
2007-10-05 01:02:00 Do we like this? Yes we do! Nina ki rings are huge, heavy, very sculpural and very organic. Although I don't like wearing jewelry that much... ('so this really means something!'). And the longer I watch the slideshow on her iqons* portrait, the more rings I want. Where fashion meets art (don't they remind us of Henry Moore?).
sasha pivovarova
2007-10-04 22:22:00 Credit: vogue.de and via pickyDon't we all love Sasha for her laid back but chique style? Well, I actually do and so that's why she's one of my inspirations for my winter wardrobe which will mostly consist out of black and grey. I found the most perfect pair (look AND price) of ankle boots today, unfortunately no pair in black (and my size) left and even online everything sold out. I'll be in Stuttgart on saturday for some shopping and for a gallery opening ('having rich friends can be annoying sometimes... esp. when you aren't rich at all!') and hope to find them there... fly magazine?
2007-10-04 12:19:00 Yesterday night fly magazine officially launched their third issue in paris (party photos might pop up in all the other fashionable blogs during the day..). I got an invitation, but unfortunately wasn't able to make it ('hey, flying to paris for a party, wouldn't that be great? Mybe next time...')Fly probably is the most interessting fashion magazine, which actually is no magazine, but a DVD, right now. It consits of animated fashion spreads, which means the models actually have to act rather than just standing around to be photographed. If you can't or don't want to afford (like in my case) the EUR 45 this amazing magazine costs the freebies must be enough to satisfy your hunger for new innovative avantgarde fashion publishing:Download clips of previous issues hereView the trailer of the current issue here.Credit: insidefly.com More About: Magazine
Balenciaga ::: Am I still alive???
2007-10-03 13:37:00 Credit: style.comWhere art meets art. Bale nciaga again causes me to interrupt my fashion week absence. Cindy Sherman and Nicolas Ghesquière posing for the photographs - what is this trying to tell us? Nicolas again gives us a bunch of artworks, sculptural shoes, dresses, that demand a huge amount of selfconfidence from its wearer. Do we love that YES YES YES. That's where fashion starts to really get interessting, where it crosses the line from beeing just clothing and as always I think that noone does it better than Mr. Ghesquière (well maybe Gareth Pugh, but that's London!!!!).But stop. I HATE THOSE FLOWER PRINTS, I HATE THEM SO MUCH, THEY ARE TOTALLY UNACCEPTABLE!!! And still, I love them. Oh what would I give for wearing that flowery carlike dress for just one night it's so amazingly contradictory. And although it reminds us of all these gucci (dolce&gabbana - who the f*** are they) crapp armors we had two seasons ago, we feel that this is simply more... Am I still alive? More About: Alive

Death in Venice
2007-09-30 22:07:00 credit: foto_decadentTod in Venedig by Thomas Mann is one of my favourite books. The fashion spread "Wellen" Karl Lagerfeld shot for Vogue Germany's current issue reminds me pretty much of that novel. Just one pictures doesn't fit so I didn't show it here. But you can see it here."Death in Venice " is about an author - Gustav von Aschenbach - in his early 50s who seeks rest in Venice/Lido. There he falls in love with a young boy, what he tells himself is an abstract, artistic interest. Well there happens nothing in that case. But, however, by accident he finds out about a cholera epedemic in Venice, but funks his resolution to warn the boys Polish family, knowing that if he does, Tadzio (the boy) will leave the hotel and be lost to him. So he stays and dies of cholera at last. This particular picture was my initial point:credit: foto_decadentSee the rest of the spread here
YVES SAINT LAURENT = NAVY SLUT IS NEATER
2007-09-28 19:53:00 50 years ago Yves Saint Laurent became a legend over night. Only 21 years old he was announced the successor of Christian Dior and therefore reign over the world's most famous fashion label. He gave the smoking to women, made the military look sociable and brought with his Mondrian inspired dresses painting to the runways ? Yves Saint Laurent ruled the silhouette of a whole generation. His love for art was reciprocated and still is. The German art magazine Monopol asked eleven artists for their personal view on Yves Saint Laurent. robin rhode at haus der kunst munich
2007-09-24 00:37:00 The performanceJust now I had the time to look through the photos I'd taken during the opening reception of robin's exhibition at the Haus der Kunst in munich where I've been last saturday. They are just a few since I was so busy talking to all the people I met there: Sabinah (robin's "wife" girlfriend quote: "The rock behind the rhode") and parts of her family, Robin 's brother and his girlfriend from Southafrica, Robin's aunt and uncle, friend's I've been to the documenta with, Perry Rubenstein (who is very charismatic - see a picture here) and many others. The familyPart of the opening reception was a performace curated by Robin showing a dancer. Unfortunately I was so late, that I only had the chance to see the performance on a screen. The "original" place was so crowded that they didn't let any more people inside. But lucky me I met Robin and could see his performance standing next to him and experience all his excitement ;-) The guy who probably signed to most catalog... More About: Munich

Gallerinas by the Satorialist
2007-09-21 16:59:00 A German magazine calles young and beautiful girls working for or running New York it galleries "gallerinas". I wonder if this is a dream of every young and beautiful art historian, to work or shall I say to be exploited by a hip and stylis art gallerist? Last weekend a New Yorker galerist made me an offer, I have no idea if he is to be taken seriously, but well, what an honour ;-) Can you imagine me beeing a New York gallerina? Zara said the bag came from an external supplier and the symbol had not been visible when it was selected. fashion?
2007-09-20 13:07:00 On youtube there is this video response thing going on (you might have heard of renetto - he's quite famous talking about life and whatever comes to his mind). It's not new, but kind of new to me since I haven't payed attention to it before. I posted a starting comment on fashion before. It was by tlg847 and interessting for me to see what "normal" nonfashion people think about the things that rule our lives.I got really excited to see what people would respond to tlg847's post. There aren't that many responses so far - which might show that fashion (still) is something many people don't know what to think about.Pedroatlarage compared the fashion shows's impact on streetware with the Grand Prix racing sports impact on family cars. Not exactly a response I would have expected, but one that could have been made by my father. More About: Fashion , Fash

women with broad shoulders
More articles from this author:2007-09-19 16:44:00 Credit: satorialist.comThe photo of this women taken by the satorialist a couple of days ago reminded me of myself. I probably have the exact same figure and the same broad shoulders but I'm not sure if I like the dress on her. It looks very feminine and masculine at the same time. I know, that I wouldn't wear it because I would feel uncomfortable highlighting my shoulders in that way, but why? Sometimes I have to remind myself that I'm not the sweet little tiny girl I sometimes wished to be. Oh fashion can be so cruel! I guess that's why I like that photo so much. This woman looks powerful and sexy at once, without the androgynous fragility of a supermodel (which I love aswell)... More About: Women , Shoulders , Broad 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7 |
