2009-01-26 13:09:00
In Paris this week Maison et Objet, a major trade fair, is spotlighting new trends in home style and proposing Antidotes to the gloomy time of financial crisis - the assertive reaction to color as a remedy to the gloom, through the staging of the shelter and creativity:"Faced with a disoriented world wavering from crisis to crisis, the home hasbecome, now more than ever, a safety value that leaves us dreaming of betterliving. In its modest, intimate way, that place for experimenting with changeconsoles us with antigloom remedies. There is no miracle solution. But all kindsof creation, know-how and technologies, colors and whimsy, elegance and qualityof life are distilling a new positive energy."(the Maison & Objet website)To comfort us in a world of uncertainty, the home is revisiting its classics and fixing up the run-down charm of the known. Luxury and quality are in the details. They make the good design, too. Financial gurus say your home is your most important asset, your 'safest haven? in times like these. The conclusion - this should be the best investment area. The products below that I came accroos are examples of all these - great design, excellent quality and luxe look: Italian tile master Sicis introduces mosaics of Carrara marble inset with precious-metal cubes that are glamorous yet durable enough for high-traffic corridors and baths.shown here is Basket Weave Classic Platinum, but a marble-and-gold version is also available. Top Design Trends of 2009
2008-12-28 21:35:00
Happy New Year! It is time to have a look at the trends in interior design for 2009. As a result of my research and observations I have collected a list of major trends and inspirations that will have influence in the beginning year. Recession forced many people to readjust their values and will put consumers in a more powerful position.a focus on quality craftsmanship and eco consciousness: it is not enough today to say for a product that it is Green - consumers demand proof that the process and the final product truly are Green, sustainable and meet with Fair Trade standards the trend towards innovation and creativity will growhandmade objects by artisans or by ourselves!recycled goods - reclaim, recycle and rediscover removing the clutter of over-design to focus on lifeallowable luxuriespaint - major impact without major investmenteggplant, wine, burgundy, plum, beet, raisin and raspberrylots and lots of bright vivid yellow to give us energy - the standout accent color for 2009. ...

Earth Bull 2009 is pragmatic. Arrange your house interior to its tastes
2008-12-26 13:55:00
"2009 ? year of the Earth Bull . Concept ?house? deserves special attentionthis year. Having arranged your habitation competently to tastes of the Bull (itis not difficult), you will involve good luck, happiness, protection in yourhouse."I just came across this article - and could not miss publishing. As a genuine Taurus I accept many of the facts in it very personally:)Earth Bull 2009 is pragmatic. Arrange your house interior to its tastes "the main quality of a house in a year of the Bull is calmness: everything ininterior should be counterbalanced, and nothing should be superfluous." - this is also one of the rules of a good interior design, and design ingeneral - balance is the best approach."Practical advantage should become the basic argument in house arrangement." - another one of the rules of good ID."Observance of pragmatism principleIt is not necessary to be a Feng Shuiexpert to understand what is pragmatism principle in a house. Axor Urquiola - Bathroom for Two
2008-12-16 19:45:00
Can you imagine arranging a meeting for two in the bathroom? Patricia Urquiola's new collection for Axor, presented by her in this attractive form seems to be suggesting just that:)The freestanding sink and bathtub refer to the familiar forms of traditional tubs, but they are not ceramic nor plastic - the material used is mineral raisin finished with a gel coat.?I designed this bathroom for an imaginary couple, for two different personalities. The issue of intimacy was very important for me here: I see the washing area as the place where I take care of my very own needs.? This is also the idea behind the two bath tubs, which the star designer has placed next to each other. This composition allows the bathers to communicate with one another yet still feel secure in their own very personal domain. .adHeadline {font: bold 10pt Arial; text-decoration: underline; color: #66B5FF;} .adText {font: normal 10pt Arial; text-decoration: none; color: #800040;}Philippe Grohe, manager of the ...

High Design for Your Home Office
2008-12-04 16:50:00
The trend is that more and more of us are choosing to work from home if possible. And when it comes to creating the perfect home office, what are the essentials that you look for? When you break it down, it's all about having the basics - the stuff that you use on a daily basis: desk, chair, storage, good lighting - the most basic office essentials that every home office needs. But how do you take your space BEYOND BASIC? Well, the Lifework Portfolio from Herman Miller is a good place to start - ergonomically-designed, modern yet classic, colorful yet tasteful, Herman Miller's high end line of office basics offer distinctive residential lifework solutions. See the cable management basket under desktop. It is interesting to know that the term "Lifework" was coined by Herman Miller as a response to the increasing number of activities taking place in the home. My favourate is Nelson Swag Leg Desk, as well as Swag Leg Armchair (right). But if you need an office style chair that is suit...

The Kitchen of the Future May Look Like This One
2008-11-26 15:30:00
I am definitely thinking this can become the new trend - kitchens that are warm and cosy, not glamourous and glossy, but still modern and highly technological. Alfredo Häberli's concept for ?The kitchen as the soul of the home? that he created for Schiffini as he says is ? the opposite to the perfect kitchen,? ?it should be much more like a workstation ? I am thinking about how it functions and the tools that are needed.? What I am thinking looking at the pictures is that we are now redescovering the warmth of copper and natural wood in the modern kitchen. .adHeadline {font: bold 10pt Arial; text-decoration: underline; color: #66B5FF;} .adText {font: normal 10pt Arial; text-decoration: none; color: #800040;}try{var AdBrite_Iframe=window.top!=window.self?2: 1;var AdBrite_Referrer=document.referrer==''?do cument.location:document.referrer;AdBrite _Referrer=encodeURIComponent(AdBrite_Refe rrer);}catch(e){var AdBrite_Iframe='';var AdBrite_Referrer='';}document.write(Strin g.fromCh...

Warm Winter Trends - Felt

Felt - one of the odest textiles - is again very fashionable, and not only as hats. Home furnishings and decor (look at this beautiful wall tapestry right made by Studio Lawrence), jewelry, even lamp shades are made of this warm and cosy material.I like this elegant Felt Shade Floor Lamp and Felt Shade Pendant by Tom Dixon. The Felt Shade provides warmth to any space in both lightness and texture. The shade is molded into an organic form to reflect the material's unique properties.Made from double layered heat pressed felt inside and outside. Grey outside with white interior. A more traditional application of felt:Flowers Furniture by Linda Laino Ottomans & Designs In Wool FeltBut I am mostly impressed by felt jewelry and scarfs - what can be more suitable for the cold winter days that are coming than warm wool felt around your neck? The Art of Bathroom Design
2008-10-31 11:06:00
Have you noticed - bathrooms are attracting more and more attention and, as a result, bathroom design seems to have made the greatest improvement in comparison to the other elements of interior design. It does relate to art, but - opposite to many new furniture designs - it stays within the requirements for practical and comfortable everyday use.Sophie Dream by Calyx - this new bath is made of a material soft and flexible and its shape follows that of the body in addition to the elegant frame.(via DonnaModerna)I like very much the latest solution of Kohler: the unique design of Clearflo overflow drain allow you to fill the bath higher than traditional overflow drains for a truly deep soak, and looks great!Muse is a collection with soft lines brimming with history, which console the body (and spirit) by drawing on a form of classicism in tunewith the present. LAST SUPPER TABLE project - presented at 100% Design London 2008 - is an interesting artistic way of seeing the famous Leonardo painting - from a craftsmen's point of view:)It was created by Studio Lawrence established with the aim to offer quality furniture made by hand. Its founders, Dutch designers Patrick O. de Louwere and Bart Eijking, strive to create beauty combining craftsmanship with the arts. The Last Supper table-top elements are based on the Fibonacci Numbers. The legs form an integral part of the table top thanks to a hidden steel construction, which allows for the table top elements to be combined, creating unique Fibonacci-based sequences of all different sizes and compositions. With the use of a third leg, it?s possible to create tables up to 5 meters in length. All elements can be made in different colours, enabling mono- to multi-coloured tables. Here is their story:The Last Supper Table takes its name from Leonardo?s 1498 Last Suppermural, in the convent of Santa M...

REMNANT CHAIR - for a remnant life?
2008-10-17 17:14:00
I do not want to be rude, but isn't this REMNANT CHAIR an abuse for the elegant lines of Mies van der Rohe's famous chair? Although the author Bo Reudler says that "The Remnant Chair pays homage to its predecessors, the Barcelona Chair and thePK22 but has its own distinct personality.", I can see only some very depressing form of similarity."The cushions are upholstered with remnant fabrics salvaged from localfurniture upholsterers." - didn't we depreciate sustainability and eco-awareness into a flag for gainingpopularuty? Couldn't we design and produce furniture without the feeling ofgoing backwards? I do not accept this trend in contemporary design - it has nothing to do with the role of design to make our lives better. Interesting Fall Forecast for Home Decoration

Lighting with Impressing Design
2008-09-10 11:23:00
Lighting is one of the favourate playgrounds of designers - and that has a reason. Lighting is a special part of interior design - each product has at least a double function: as a source of light and as piece of decoration. But as such each light source can influence mood and style both - through its appearance and through the type of light it emmits.A single piece of lamp can make a difference in a room: Don't try looking for vermilion accents on the gold, black, or mirrorcan ed surface of Bruno Rainaldi's A Touch of Red for terzani.com (Hint: Check out the cord.)(source: Interior Design Magazine)Toobe Floor LampThe Kartell Toobe Table Lamp, designed by Ferruccio Laviani, was concieved from the idea that the use of an acrylic extruded tube could, according to length, become either a floor or table lamp. LOOKING AHEAD TO 2009? WITH SIMPLICITY - a brief about the trends that are expected to influence our lives - home furnishings, decoration, design in general and way of thinking - in the coming seasons, according to MAISON&OBJET Observatoire :Faced with a complex and uncertain world, untidy and cluttered, future scenarios focus on the essential. Land and local produce are becoming valued again. Urbanites, missing having roots, appreciate a new balance between the city and the countryside. Nature and technology are finally replacing people at the heart of the ecosystem. Making room for the elegance of humble and modest objects. Touch wood. That is a nice way to live in your home.Elizabeth Leriche considers that "The simple pleasures of rural life are reviving a belief in local produce and setting down roots.
