BUBBLY BEIJING ARCHITECTURE
2007-08-10 00:23:00 One of the new buildings being constructed to host the Beijing Olympics in 2008 is The National Aquatics Centre designed by PTW architects from Sydney in collaboration with CSCEC China State Construction Engineering Corporation. The building is being constructed of a steel spaceframe and 100,000 ETFE pillows that are only eight one-thousandths of an inch thick to reduce energy cost by 30%. The installation is made up of 275 illuminated industrial tanks that are stacked on top of each other and constantly light up and change colors to the rhythm.
