2011-01-02 09:31:00 2010 has been one of the most confusing, unpredictable and unexplainable years for me as an art market analyst. So many of the trends, events and fads that emerged during 2010 did not appear to be caused by the sort of conditions, have the same effects, or follow the same path of logic that one would expect they would given the way things have panned out in past years More About: Market , Review
The Most Revealing Art Auction Investigations ? artmarketblog.com
2010-12-26 23:30:00 Over the years many very interesting and revealing investigations into the inner workings of art auction houses have been conducted by journalists. Having read most of the results of these investigations myself, I thought that it would be useful to provide a list of what I believe are the most informative and educational investigations to have been published in recent times. If you are wondering at this point whether I gold some sort of grudge against art auction house then I can assure you that I don't. Most of the problems that have arisen with the art auction sector have originated from either one person or a small number of people who think that they are invincible and take things too far. Are Art Auction Houses Mocking Art Buyers? ? artmarketblog.com
2010-12-02 05:46:00 Not only does there seem to be the potential for art auction buyers to be influenced by incorrectly categorised and catalogued works, but apparently some auction houses now appear to conducting auctions in a manner that suggests that art buyers are unable to make decisions for themselves when buying at auction, and need to be told what they should be buying. Zoo Art Fair 09 Fails to Deliver – artmarketblog.com
2009-11-01 16:16:00 Zoo Art Fair 09 Fails to Deliver – artmarketblog.com This year’s Zoo art fair was a rather interesting event primarily because of the new venue which consisted of several disused Victorian warehouse buildings in London’s east end that were divided into three sections (Zones A, B and C). Unfortunately (in my opinion) Zoo were kicked out of their usual venue at the Royal Academy of Arts after London gallery Haunch of Venison leased the space. Zoo weren’t entirely to blame for the circumstances that they found themselves in and as much as I would like to say that they triumphed over adversity, they didn’t. It was obvious that Zoo were attempting to make the most of the venue and give an edgy feeling to the fair by taking on what Zoo called an “adapted structure”, but it ended up feeling and looking much more like a last resort structure. Another major hurdle that Zoo had to come up against was the reduction in the number applications to exhibit from commercial ga...

Frieze Art Fair 09 Review – artmarketblog.com
More articles from this author:2009-10-24 16:31:00 Frieze Art Fair 09 Review – artmarketblog.com 'The Couple' by Louise Bourgeois Over the last month or so I have attented twelve art and antique fairs in London which have left me with plenty to write about and the need for a few days rest. Although the fairs themselves were frought with issues the general mood was positive and the outlook optimistic. Dealers have reported good sales in most cases and seem to be in a very optimistic frame of mind as the market continues to pick up. The biggest fair I attended was the Frieze Art Fair which is one of the most important contemporary art events in the UK if not the world. Although one cannot help but be impressed by the glitz and glamour of the Frieze art fair it was just not an enjoyable experience for me. To start with, the marquee was really hot which made just being at the fair physically unpleasant, but the real problem with Frieze is that it is too much like a supermarket. When visiting a supermarket one tends t... 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7 |
