Cypress Trees - Damn fine (and strange) art photography!
2007-07-25 13:59:00 Cypress Trees - Damn fine (and strange) art photography!A print of this picture is available for sale here.Of my recent blurred pictures The Cypresses has to be the most subdued in its color, the most delicate for detail, and the most mysterious of my newest photography work - as well as one of my personally favorite photographs. It adorns currently my homepage at contemporary art photography home - the growing in grandure Blzbuba Photography online photography gallery. End of yet another shameless plug..! But nobody actualy reads this anyway right? Right?!Cypresses was made in 2007 in Opatija, Croatia where I am fortunate to live half of the year making a bunch of artistic nonsense which I happen to think is pretty cool and that I am healthily cocky about incidentally. Experimental Art Photography? - The Blurred Roses Series by Jesse Ross
2007-07-12 17:22:00 Experimental Art Photography ? - The Blurred Roses Series by Jesse RossBlurred Roses No.2 is available for sale here. The Blurred Roses Series is the newest addition to my collective creative photography works which can be found in their cohesive entirety in my personal gallery at the very cool: http://www.blzbubaphotography.com/.Blurre d Roses No.3 is available for sale here. The Blurred Roses Series was made in the summer of 2006 in the largest (to my knowledge) of Sarajevo's (Bosnia and Herzegovina/Bosna i Hercegovina)(pronounced Bos-nah ee Hair-tse-go-veen-ah.. roughly..emphasis on Bos and Hair..all else declining)cemeteries. Officially the series is comprised of 6 works but here I am including the outtakes as they are equally as valid if taken outside of the more or less harmonious whole of the series.Blurred Roses No.4 is available for sale here. While the pictures were made in 2006, I didn't get around to editing them until June of this year - 2007. They were forgotten in fact d... More About: Experimental
An American Artist's Exile in Sarajevo Part 2
2007-03-26 15:56:00 When I was expelled from the country of Croatia in 2003/04 my girlfriend and I went to Sara jevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina as it happened to be the only place we could afford to get to in the 48 hours alotted my exit from the country. We spent a year in Sarajevo where I made many pictures and tried my best to tune in to the pulse of my hosts. But upon re-patriation to Croatia in the late summer of 2004 all of the pictures I made there excepting a couple of survivors were stolen. Having lost an entire collection of photos accrued since the last loss of a previous entire collection in 2002 I found myself in urgent soulful neccessity to make up for damages. But after returning from Sarajevo empty handed I took the period of nothingness to think about the way I wanted to make pictures. In Opatija, Croatia late in 2005 I began to make new and inspired photographic work. Based loosely on some tentative color photography I had been exploring after years of working exclusively in traditional b... More About: America , Artist , American , Part
An Addendum: Pictures from Bosnia
2007-03-16 12:51:00 In support of the theme of Sarajevo and art and photography which these articles revolve around I managed to drag out a few more survivors from my first period of exile there. Scanty representation for a year's worth of experiences but because of the case I thought that these should definitely be included. The picture of a view through a bombed out ruin toward the sounthern mountain range of Sarajevo was made in our neighborhood of Kobilja Glava.I profess to not knowing the name of this massive cemetery from which I found so much inspiration and which is pictured often from this time. These are two sketches of it, one from the front entrance where there is a bus stop and one more intimate from a secret backside through a break in the fence. These pictures illustrate an interesting characteristic of Sarajevo and that is it's variable/volatile weather conditions. Clouds are glorious and can become ominous in moments from each other. Drama! More About: Pictures , Picture , Bosnia , Addendum
An American Artist's Exile in Sarajevo Part 1
2007-02-14 17:02:00 Cézanne would never have interested me a bit if he had lived and thought like Jacques Émile Blanche, even if the apple he painted had been ten times as beautiful. What forces our interest is Cézanne’s anxiety -- that’s Cézanne’s lesson; the torments of van Gogh -- that is the actual drama of the man. The rest is a sham. Pablo PicassoSara jevo is the crumbling capital of the not so long ago besieged and ravaged Bosna i Hercegovina, what we in the west call Bosnia Herzegovina and any other mutation which manages to fall off finally the tongue.. I could never pronounce it while the region was in the news in the mid 90's.. It took me months in Sarajevo my first period of residence in 2004/05 (or03/04) to pronounce Sarajevo properly let alone the country's official name.I remember fantasizing Sarajevo in 1984 when the Winter Olympics were held there. (The Olympic symbol from my childhood is still displayed proudly and surrealy to me throughout the city.) At one point being... More About: America , Artist , American , Part
Decorative Floral Photography: Red Tulip On Paper No.3
2007-01-31 13:01:00 Red Tulip on Paper No.3 was made on a sunny spring morning in 2006 in my garden in Opatija, Croatia. To give clean contrast to the vivid colors of Red Tulip I positioned a tablet of white paper beneath the subject. The sophistication that lines in works can provide, especially when mis/matched with natural forms were produced here by both breeze fluttered pages and the fold of the notebook. An added benefit from the use of the white backdrop was the subtle gradation of hues that came through from reflected color between Red Tulip and the paper and then shade produced from the angles of the pages.Red Tulip on Paper No.3 is a part of the contemporary photography Red Tulips on Paper Series and is an example of a "blurred" photography theme begun in the winter of 2005/06. Red Tulips are close-ups representatives in this theme and they are as intimate as works can be in the style.. which to me is a larger question.. Because the works are not sharp they are intimate in a more fantastical ... More About: Photo , Photography , Flora , Decor
Blurred Landscape Photography: Volosko Yellow House
More articles from this author:2007-01-31 12:34:00 I lived in the north Adriatic fishing village of Volosko, Croatia back in 2004 with my girlfriend and a heavy drinking Croat and his much younger bride with whom we shared a small (although lush!!) third story apartment. I didn't make a picture while I was there for many reasons not quite cohesively revelatory to me as I write this..Volosko has an artistic reputation as it hosts local as well as invited artists to "paint" the place.. works produced usually resulting in portrayals of the village's renowned rooftops and boats upside-down on asphalt and sail masts in distances. No one had a clue I was there which may or may not have been my own fault.. So while living in Opatija just a few minutes down the road or the flag stoned walk along the sea as you choose, I re-visited my old home recently and made this picture. Volosko as a place has about two great views of itself, (which of course is a challenge! yeah.. to YOU!), and this is one of them, just up on the main city street befo...
