Laissez le KGB Carnival roulette!
2007-02-13 04:49:00 The picture isn't terribly Kansas-like, I know, but parade season for Mardi Gras has begun and I'm feeling a bit nostalgic about it as I sit here in Wichita waiting for it to snow yet some more; and, after all, this is the KGB carnival, you know. So grab an RC Cola and some moonpies and enjoy these submissions and selections from KGBer posts from last week: Over at The force that through..., More About: Carnival
A stretch of river XXXIII: And the raven never flitting . . .
2007-02-11 19:35:00 The colder the weather, the larger the flocks that the crows gather in. This winter has been Wichita's coldest in the last couple of years. Ergo: I have never seen so many crows in the entirety of my life as I have in downtown Wichita these past couple of months. Yesterday in the park at sunset, Scruffy and I saw a scene very much like the one pictured here (which, by the way, comes from this More About: Rave , River , Ever , Never , Raven
Harry Callahan visits Madison County
2007-02-11 15:43:00 (Many thanks/blame to Gwynne of The Shallow End, whose pictures of her husband's and her own movie collections inspired this post. Her responsibility ends there, she'll be relieved to know.) If Caroline and Michael had only kept reading their mother Francesca's journal . . . they would have found, tucked away in a sidepocket of the book, written notes she had made of another affair after Robert More About: Allah , Calla , County , Call , Visi
In which the Meridian hopes he has come early to a party
2007-02-10 13:27:00 I've not had much to say here of late about what to do in Iraq because, let's face it: Now, what's being squabbled over in Congress is face-saving details, really. Whether or not to leave Iraq is no longer some sort of debating point; leaving is a logistical and material and, increasingly, political reality that awaits only our official acknowledgment. I don't say this flippantly, though I do More About: Hopes , Party , Hope , Come , Part
Carnival Time approacheth!
2007-02-10 06:49:00 This coming Monday, good old Blog Meridian will be the host for the weekly carnival of the Kansas Guild of Bloggers. I hope all of you, KGB members or not, residents of Kansas or not, who are so inclined will submit something more or less Kansas-oriented for inclusion in the Carnival . More About: Time , Roach
In which the Meridian learns that, Wow, he is Awesome!
2007-02-06 05:12:00 I'm back "here," finally. I returned to Wichita on Saturday afternoon; then, Mrs. M. came down to visit and didn't leave until early Monday morning. So, like a student who's missed a week of classes, I've been asking, "Wudidimiss?" I've been finding out the answers to that on my own by reading blogs--alas, even though I am Awesome !, my blogging peers didn't see fit to cease blogging in my More About: Wow , Hat , Earn , Dian
In which the Meridian plays the Good Son
2007-01-28 03:36:00 This blog will most likely be "dark" for the next week. My mother, who lives in Austin, will be having back surgery (fairly routine, we're told) on Monday, and so Scruffy and I will drive down tomorrow to be there for the operation and her first few days back home. We'll be coming back next week. Actual instruction from her doctor: while she's convalescing, she is not to pick up "anything More About: Play , Lays , Dian , Plays , Good
"Bloggies" update
2007-01-26 22:57:00 Just a quick note that yesterday the finalists for the 2007 Weblog Awards were posted; you can find them here. While I'm disappointed that more of my nominees weren't chosen (only one, in fact), I am pleased that a long-time friend of this blog, Frances of Sunshine State, is a finalist in the category Best Teen Blog . I hope that those so inclined will lend her your support. Best of luck, More About: Update , Bloggies , Blogg

The Complete "A Stretch of River"
More articles from this author:2006-10-26 01:36:00 Once upon a time (June of 2005), Scruffy and I took a walk along a little creek just downhill from where we Meridians were living at the time, and I was so struck by what I was seeing and found myself thinking that I thought I'd blog about some of it. There are two posts from that time. Then in August of '05 we moved downtown to some apartments hard by the Little Arkansas River , and I thought More About: Comp , Complete , Etch , Stretch 1, 2, 3, 4 |
