A prime example of this is [[Mara ]]. Mara is interpreted in Buddhism in a number of different ways. Some see Mara as a physical entity, similar to the Christian idea of the devil. Some see Mara as the idea of the ego. Some see Mara as a metaphor for samsara, or the idea of the inevitable cycle of death and rebirth. Still others see Mara as simply a symbol of the entirety of conditioned existence. Traveling the world, humans are subjected to many world views on how time is constructed, considered and used. Island time constructs, for instance, are appealing to those who desire a more relaxed environment. Saying Aloha means both hello and goodbye, sometimes simultaneously, when passing an acquaintance in Hawaii. Everywhere human beings go provides new perceptions on time’s construction. All that was left was my spine, my neck, my beating and dazed heart. Nothing else. I saw her favorite slippers tucked by her own feet underneath the couch chair, her favorite spot.
