-Darin Corbin was a big guy who didn't talk much and played football, but wasn't very good like you'd expect him to be. We all drank beer behind his house on weekend nights even if we didn't really know him, and as if in consolation for his lack of grid iron prowess. It was called "The Hilltop." The name felt secret and special. Sometimes there were brutal one on one fights there, settling scores kind of fights that were brewing for months. They were innocent, only fists, but I haven't seen or felt the intensity of anything since, and I remember the sound of knuckles smashing face flesh with the purpose of extreme hurt when I feel overwhelmed, and know I can breathe in almost any situation because I witnessed them.-Brian David and William Jameson were the first gay boys I ever knew. We all knew it, even in fourth grade on the playground, but we didn't have names for such things back then. They were both always instinctively kind to everyone in a way that others never w...

Knobby Knees
2010-08-11 11:50:00
You hope for sleep, Pray for sleep,Worship this darkness Never complete. There’s a virgin before her mirror On a rainy Sunday nightBecoming this, transcending that,Etc. Etc. She can’t decide whetherTo crystallize Or ferment.Try to dream over these murmurs Through generations’ whispersOf the cities built, The cities destroyed. Now, it’s the fan over our bed, Over this shared head Whining and oscilating That is our unholyPattern. This humid night Blows in every directionAs we hide our dreams On rented shelves. We look forward to sleep- Forward to sleep…Backwards we creep, Always praying knee deep.We hide our dreams On a dusty shelf…What ending have we chosen For ourselves?

Dream (Bonnie and Clyde)
2008-06-05 11:15:00
We were in that hotel? by the ocean.? ?You and I in that bed? in that hotel room; the world outside behind? the curtains dipping in the late afternoon ?breeze.?You buzzed about ?with your things ?to do list, your book with ?all the places of interest, as if we could still pretend we had all the time in the world. ??I looked up at ?the tiled ceilings? so high, ?the ancient frescoes ?faded? and chipped so elegantly, you the countess of the crumbling villa of my mind.? ?And somehow we made it so it did not matter ?that they knew? where we were. ??It did not matter ?that they were ?out to get ?us and ?we knew they would ?sooner rather ?than later. ??It did not matter ?that when they came for us ?it would be forever ?this time; we both knew we had put off the inevitable for as long as we could, passed through all the boundaries, our bodies together and apart, hand in hand hurdling head first through all the fears. The doorbell chimed as the alarm rang out, and you, on cue, innocently ...

If you would have told me, when I was a young man, that one day I would tell you (without laughing) that I've learned more from all the compromises then any idealistic stand I could have ever taken, I would have called you a fucking liar and a phony, then taken a torch to the future me.That's what I would have said and done (back then.)-Los Angeles to Boston - 5/25/08

Brattleboro Exchange

You had dreamsbut they slipped awayso quietly that we failed to noticeuntil we had stackedthem up in boxes.Standing now, years later, along these tracks, sun beaming down, through the thin, blue air, black birds overhead, two of them, slicing souththrough thenorth wind, then landing on theflashing crossing lightto pick and clean each other'swings. The train pulls in.The birds scatter.I board for youto take us further.Sitting with my back facing front, wheels churning, rust stained snow, past lakes outlined in white, past abandoned houses, and houses that should be,and all New England's playgroundsburied in the ancient ice;where have you been, where once was your home? What am I looking for?Where you have been, where once was your home.Always following your tracks, that is all I ever did,Waiting for our eyes to whisper to me:where you have gone, where once was our home?A long time agowe, the deepest sleep beneath, this always onwards, though we only ever sit facing backwards, always will be my way home...
