'Maple Leaf No. 2' - A Painting a Day
2007-11-27 19:28:00 Oil on Gessoed Hardboard (Masonite)5" high x 5" wide Click here to bidI saw a painting Michael Naples another daily painter I admire, did a while ago. The one with the leaf tapped to the wall, and I really thought this was a nice idea to hold the leaf in place while painting it. Lets face it, not all the leafs can just lean on a wall, so this is quite useful. So I wanted to paint my own version. I went out a couple of weeks ago to get some leaves out of our maple trees right in front of my house. They were bloody red! gorgeous colors! so I tapped one down on my white paper wall (the one for my photograph setting) Of course I'm not using fancy tape, because the only thing I have in my studio is packing tape, the brown one, transparent or the one from the post office, so I had to improvise and use a little strip of the brown one. Is not as neat, but I think it looks good plus I like the reflections of light on it. I set up a nice warm lamp to cast a nice shadow. Not too dark and not ... "Going in" - second
2007-11-26 14:59:00 Oil on Gessoed Hardboard (Masonite)6" high x 6" wide Click here to bidThere was something about the water I didn't like on the previous version of this painting (see below) so I decided to go to sleep and see if in the morning I was feeling the same way. Fair enough, I didn't like it either when I woke up, so I worked on it a little more. The water on the first one looked too calm, somehow I changed the way the ocean looked as I was focusing more on the wave that was breaking out in front of the girl and forgot about the other waves that were behind, plus the water on my picture reference looked more greenish not grayish, so I changed the tone of the water aswell. Sometimes is a matter of just stepping away from the painting long enough to see what was wrong with it that we didn't quite like in the first place.Questions? Comments? "Unnoticed"
2007-11-25 08:51:00 Oil on Gessoed Hardboard (Masonite)8" high x 10" wide A few months ago I was lucky enough to find a celebrity while shopping at the mall, but it wasn't until yesterday that I decided to paint the scene as I was looking for my pictue references to finish the third painting that will go to the juried show at the Lawrence St. Gallery, here in Michigan .Her name is Patricia Richardson, better known as Jill Taylor, wife of Tim "the tool man" Taylor in the tv series "Home Improvement" one of my favorites old tv shows by the way and this painting is the lady with the black tank top and the white shirt on top. Her hair due is different, still with her bangs, and maybe that's why she passed unnoticed. I guess sometimes when you are a celebrity is so good to being able to just go out and enjoy a day at the mall without photographers... wel not quite, as I was there and took a picture, or two.Questions? Preparing for the NY Artexpo 2008
2007-11-23 21:56:00 One of the next steps I needed to accomplish aside from my on personal auction site where to offer my daily paintings at auction, was to open an online store where anyone could browse and purchase my works right away, through a secure shopping cart, from the small daily paintings all the way to abstracts and limited edition prints. The need arised after we decided it would be the best for customers to shop in a more calm environment without the convulsion of the show. Two days ago it became a reality. www.valentifineart.com opened its doors offering my all time favorite abstracts originals and limited edition giclée prints and some of my daily paintings limited and originals. Prices reflected are the same prices similar works of mine are being offered on galleries, and the prints are only available through my online store and directly from my studio, no gallery is carrying these for now. If this ever changes in the future I will sure post the update here on my blog. For this Black Fri... More About: 2008 , Prep

Beloved Venice
2007-11-12 05:16:00 Oil on canvas11" high x 14" wideLast year I started this painting of Venice and I was never able to finish it, maybe because I didn't want to or maybe because sooooooo many artists through out history have painted the same exact scene! the thing is that I just found the canvas while looking for something else in my studio. It was behind some other paintings that I was taking out and getting ready to drop at the new gallery that will be representing my works here in Michigan. You could say it just jumped out on me, maybe as a reminder screaming at me "hey! I'm still here, unfinished, why don't you work on me a little?" at least that's what sounded in my mind.I took the picture that inspired this painting back in 2004, when we were visiting Venice for work and pleasure (definitely this is a city in which you can do both!) this was the end of our long walk in town, right after San Marco, galleries, and watching my kids having fun with the doves at the Piazza San Marco and of course... Last day of summer - finished work
2007-11-10 19:03:00 Oil on Gessoed Hardboard (Masonite)6" high x 6" wideI just finished the second piece that will be going to the Lawrence St. Gallery juried exhibition. I still have one more to go, as I'm applying for this exhibit with three paintings. If I get accepted this will be the second juried exhibition I get into for this gallery, so keep your fingers crossed! =]The image that inspired this painting I took it at the Stoney Creek Park here in Michigan which is about 20 minutes from my home. Is a gorgeous park with a very large lake where I used to go mountain biking with my oldest son before the car accident I had this past June 5th.Anyways, this was taken very late in the afternoon, it was around 6:30pm and the sun was so bright that I couldn't resist the temptation and took a bunch of pictures from the people that was still enjoying the last days of summer at one of the beaches. The painting I titled I found something! was also inspired from a photograph on this beach, and the pick bucket... More About: Beach , Summer , Work , Detroit

Fall at the young vineyards in Provence
2007-11-09 01:17:00 Oil on Gessoed Hardboard (Masonite)7" high x 5" wide Click here to bidFall is one of the most beautiful seasons of all, at least for me. The colors nature turns into are my favorite colors and the ones I use the most in my palette. I went out today to meet with a friend, and on my way back I was inspired by all the vibrant colors in my way home. As soon as I got here, I started looking for my library of images from my trips to France and Italy, and found a few that I wanted to paint. This one from the young vineyards in Provence with all the leaves in bright yellows, reds and brows right about to fall out of the tree.Questions? Comments? Can we just go now?
2007-11-07 06:13:00 Oil on Gessoed Hardboard (Masonite)6" high x 6" wide Click here to bidToday I was so busy going to a gallery for an interview that by the time I got home it was way past 5, which is time for me to start getting dinner ready. I have good news by the way, as I'm signing a contract with another very prestigious gallery. So back to the painting for today, well yesterday as here is 12:32am on Nov. 7 but I did finished the painting before midnight so it does counts as the painting for Nov. 6.Another painting of my beloved 15 year old Ruffo. I took so many pictures of him that I might as well enjoy painting the ones I find more interesting until I ran out of them. You can see now he's getting pretty exited, he just wants to run! he's pulling so hard as I'm trying to hold my camera and his leash that the skin on his neck shows sign of the collar being way too tight. He will keep pulling until I start walking and if I dare not to walk with him he will start barking at me so I would start... More About: Michigan

2007-11-06 03:27:00 Oil on Gessoed Hardboard (Masonite)6" high x 6" wide Click here to bidMeet my dog. His name is Ruffo and he's a 15 years old German bracco. Pretty much like a pointer but black solid in color with a white diamond on the chest. He was born in Venezuela, South America and came with us on an airplane in 1999 when we moved to the US along with his mother (we certainly looked funny at the airport! 2 kids, 2 adults and 2 huge dog cages! lol!) He's a good, really good dog; a dog who still thinks is a puppy! but although he likes to play and do all the funny things he does, he gets tired very quickly and on my first ever dog painting I captured his personality, which is really strong! The day I captured this painting was a warm day a couple of weeks ago. We still had a nice fairly warm weather and I took him out for a long walk. I wanted to take picture references for my work and as I'm walking out of my garage with him I saw the perfect scene! so I took my camera out to try and take some... More About: Kidding

The beautiful reds, oranges, browns and yellows are so inspiring to me, as they are the favorite colors in my palette and I get to play with them more than usual. This scene just outside of Aix-en-Provence , in the countryside in early fall, just when the leaves of the beautiful vineyards are barely starting to show some changing colors.El otoño es una the mis temporadas favoritas. Peaceful Morning at the Laida Beach, Spain
2007-10-28 20:53:00 Oil on Gessoed Hardboard (Masonite)10" high x 8" wide Painting will be for exhibition at the Lawrence St. Gallery, MII was finally able to finish the painting! I had to work extra on the umbrella. For some reason I was having trouble with the actual drawing, so after redrawing the exact perspective of the umbrella, I was finally able to finish it. The original umbrella on the picture I took was white with blue pocodots, but for some reason I didn't quite like it as it rendered the whole scene too "plain" so after a while I thought it would be good to have an orange umbrella instead, yet still not quite what I wanted. A little yellow here and white there and I was able to go for the look I had in mind. Sometimes, not very often thankfully, a few color changes need to me made in order to bring to life the first stricking image we saw in first place. Now I'm going out to plant some 300 tulip bulbs that are waiting for me, and hopefully I'll be able to start the second piece for this ... I was able to finish painting the woman, the guy and part of their baggage that's sitting under the umbrella.Just looking at them so perfectly tanned her, and in his way to perfect tan him, I feel the warm of the sun.And for those of you who wonder, like my oldest son, if the girl is topless, yes she is, perfectly normal at any public beach in Spain , and other parts of Europe.Hopefully between laundry tomorrow I'll be able to finish this one and start the other one.Have a great rest of the Saturday!Questions? Red Soil
2007-10-26 00:17:00 Oil on canvas14" high x 11" wide Click here to bidOne of the things I think I miss the most about the north of Spain are the landscapes. They are impressive and right at the tip of your fingers. No matter where I was driving to, I would find inspiration. The old rural about to fall down house in the middle of an apparent no where surrounded by hills and impressive mountains, a farm or just the front of a very old house with tons of character. This little farm was not too far away from where we used to live and although a simple and ordinary in appearance I bet it had tons of stories to tell. The soil ready for winter showing its best colors while contrasting with yellow the almost dry pastures behind. This is certainly not one of the small daily paintings, but I put a lot of memories into making. Mom and daughter at the Laida beach in Spain
2007-10-24 00:16:00 Oil on Gessoed Hardboard (Masonite)6" high x 6" wideClick here to bidThe Laida beach is one of the most famous beaches in the north of Spain for surfers, but it is also a good beach for the public as well, if you like a beach where the waters "walk". You heard it right, the sea tide goes up and down so fast that in a matter of minutes the water would reach you on the shores if you are too close. We visited this beautiful beach while we were living there back in 2004, and that's when I took the picture for this painting. Mother and daughter just standing there, looking at their feet, I guess they were seeing how fast the water was raising or how fast they were sincking in the sand perhaps? The little girl next to them was looking also at their feet as if she was waiting for something to happen.I'll be traveling to Spain in a few weeks, to visit the friends and family we left there and to gather more inspiration for more works. I'm planning to take my easel and paintings with me and... More About: Beach , Landscapes , Daughter , Waterfront

Although born there my blood is 100% Italian, but I always felt that country to be home. It was home until Hugo Chavez won the elections becoming the worse disgrace that ever happened to the country. He destroyed my home and the home of millions of Venezuelans bringing the worse misery, hunger and insecurity the country has ever felt. We, me and my husband, knew that him winning the elections the country would face the worse in the history of Venezuela, and we were not wrong. Forming what I call a "triad" with Fidel Castro and the now deceased Sadam Hussein couldn't have being a good combination, so we flew the country with tears in our hearts hopping to offer our kids a better life and a better future coming to the US.We still suffer watching on the news what this mentally retarded of Chavez is doing to our country, the misery he has brought and the seeds of fear he planted... Before moving to the US in 1999, me, my family and friends of all times didn't know what it was or how it tasted. It was present in many movies, and we kind of thought it must taste good with a strawberry jelly and it certainly does! I had a hectic day today, and I didn't hae much time to paint, so this was a quick setting for my shadow box and an easy after dinner painting.I hope you enjoy my version of this simple treat, so many times painted by Duane Keiser and many others.Questions?
