Here, I'll Hold it for ya
2007-08-23 23:29:00
Oil on board6" wide x 6" high" (15.2 x 15.2cm)Click here to bidI took this picture between rain drop and rain drop literally. It was time for us to head back home after two days of raining in Chicago, when I told my husband to please stop for me to take some pictures at the bean. So he did, he stopped in the middle of the road, I got down and started running with my Canon EOS hanging from my neck (very painful in my stage) until I reached the Cloud Gate, that's its real name by the way. People were starting to get their umbrellas out and I started shooting with my camera. I thought this lady with her arms up and the little girl under with both her hands on her hears was kind of unusual and would do a great painting. It looked like if the lady with the green jacket hanging from her bag was holding the sculpture. So today it was time to immortalize that moment, and I thought it was funny so I decided to call this one "Here, I'll hold it for ya".Questions? Comments? Post them right ...

5" x 5" (12.7cm x 12.7cm)Oil on Masonite Board$150 with FREE shipping and handling in the US and CanadaE-mail me for International shipping rates or other inquiries. This is a painting I wanted to do for a long, long time, but never got the nerve to jump to it. This is me, my little son when he was a little bit over a year and my daughter Daniela, and we are at the Arrigunaga Beach in Getxo, north of Bilbao, which was the town we used to live in while we were in Spain from June 2004 until February 2006.My daughter was just immerse playing with the sand, my little one just smilling at daddy who was taking this picture, and me.... well, putting my lotion on so I can just lay down and tan.... that didn't happen. My daughter after a few minutes of playing with the sand decided to crawl (she doesn't walk) all the way to the ocean for which I had to jump, and my little angel thought the sand looked good to eat.I wanted this painting to look loose, painterly like. Notice that I'm focusin...

My first visit to Chicago
2007-08-22 06:14:00
I just got back this past Sunday, August 19 from Chica go . This was my first visit ever to this city and I just have to say what an amazing and spectacular city! I fell in love with it! and I took soooooo many pictures! We arrived on Thursday afternoon, and stayed at the Hilton Garden Inn in Des Plaines, right outside Chicago. Friday was a splendid day! a beautiful sunny day, but gosh on Saturday it started raining and it didn't stop at all, in fact we had rain also on Sunday for which it was impossible for me to take good pictures of the well known bean, officially The Cloud Gate (picture on the left).Al the pictures I was able to snap are not very good, not a lot of sun, but they will work for my new series of works.I love to paint scenes from the towns I visit, but they never feature people in them, and this will change. The pictures I took from Chicago and the new pictures I'll be taking from Down Town Detroit will help me to create more spontaneous cityscapes works of everyday ...

5" x 5" (12.7cm x 12.7cm)Oil on Masonite Board$150 with FREE shipping and handling in the US and CanadaE-mail me for International shipping rates or other inquiries.I'm posting this painting today which was finsihed yesterday, from my Hilton hotel room in Chicago. The reason why I'm posting a daily painting, the day after it was finished, is because I was extremely busy yesterday packing and getting ready for my trip. After I finished the previous painting I did for the Gamblin competition (see post right below) I got a couple of inquires from two of my collectors wanting to see the painting in full color, so I did the similar painting a lonely minimalistic cherry in a dark room softly lit by the window coming through the window but in color.I wanted to bring some paint and boards but I thought I wouldn't have enough time to paint. I want to take all my time here to see what all this city has to offer, as this is the first time I visit Chicago and to take as many pictures for refe...

6" x 12" (15.3cm x 30.5cm)Oil on Art Board$250 with FREE shipping and handling in the US and CanadaE-mail me for International shipping rates or other inquiries.I woke up this morning eager to start another painting in my new 6 x 12 art board format. So I started looking into my kitchen and refrigerator for "models" for my new painting for the day. I got out tomatoes, strawberries, grapes, cherries and even maraschino cherries (I ended up eating them with some cream, oh! so good!) so after knocking down the sweet maraschino cherries and cream I started playing around with samples and taking pictures of what I was laying down on my kitchen table. Because of the long format I was going more for a line of different objects, a more minimalist painting that anything else, plus I wanted to experiment with the new oil painting tube that I just recently got. New colors that I've never had in my palette before, plus one that came as a gift in the box, the color is "Torrit Grey" by Gamblin, ...

6" x 12" (15.3cm x 30.5cm)Oil on Masonite (Gessobord)$250 with FREE shipping and handling in the US and CanadaE-mail me for International shipping rates or other inquiries.I'm finally back to my studio! it's being a roller coaster this week. First it was my daughter having dental surgery, she's special needs so that implies they had to sedate her, and taking care of her (she's being really sore) for this week. Then it was the finalization of my other website, for my other business, webdesign, which I'm so pleased to announce www.elegantwebdesigns.net and then it has being everything else! what a week! so i'm finally able to enter my studio after a week off, and not exactly on vacations! and I was able to finish one little, well not so little painting for today. I found these not so new, but new to me, art boards at my online art supplier (check the link for it on the menu) so I wanted to try them out as I just got them and I finish this painting on this new format. 4" x 4" (10.2cm x 10.2cm)Oil on Masonite (Gessobord)$150 with FREE shipping and handling in the US and CanadaE-mail me for International shipping rates or other inquiries.I love to cook, I love to be in the kitchen preparing gourmet food and having a blast with my husband. But whenever we are in the kitchen preparing our meals we like to have something to nibble while we talk about our days, and I always keep handy a jar of olives. It doesn't matter if they are black, green, large, small in salmuera or prepared, we like to eat olives like every European family. This little painting came after a night in the kitchen (well not a whole night, but like an hour or two in the kitchen).I finished it yesterday, August 2, but by the time I finished it, it was too late, almost midnight, and I was so tired, so that I decided to post it today instead on my blog. So, this painting counts as for yesterday, not today as I'll have another one ready soon this afternoon. =]Questions? Comments? Post ...

5" x 5" (12.7cm x 12.7cm)Oil on Masonite (Gessobord)$150 with FREE shipping and handling in the US and CanadaE-mail me for International shipping rates or other inquiries.Recently I had the opportunity to visit the lavender garden of a nice lady in a town nearby. She hosted a festival for the third consecutive year bringing artists and artisans together into her beautiful lavender garden. Since I didn't know not only the soil but the weather conditions here in Michigan are the best to grow lavender, I started my adventure trying to find this beautiful and aromatic plant. I have to say that I've being in love with lavender since I was a child, and seeing the fields in Tuscany and Provence was a spectacular scenario, so having those plants in my garden was a must!I finally was able to find them at my local home improvement store, I bought 8 and they are already planted on the front of my house. So today I took a couple of stems of this aromatic flower and started this little paintin...

The Lady and the Orange Towel at the Arrigunaga Beach in Spain

5" x 5" (12.7cm x 12.7cm)Oil on Masonite (Gessobord)$150 with FREE shipping and handling in the US and CanadaE-mail me for International shipping rates or other inquiries.I've being wanting to paint this scene ever since I took the picture at the Arrigunaga beach while living in Spain . This would be the second figurative work (if we can consider it so) I've done in my life, and from now on I think I'll do more. The lady was laying on the rocks above where the orange towel barely shows, but she decided to come down for a plunge. What captured my attention was the incredibly bright afternoon, the pale gray rocks against the certainly tanned lady with her orange beach towel. For those of you who don't know where the Arrigunaga beach is, the beach is located in the city of Getxo, north of Bilbao (Bilbo) in the north of Spain. That's where we used to live for almost 2 years before moving to Michigan. We lived two blocks away from this beach and we would go with the kids whenever possi...

5" x 5" (12.7cm x 12.7cm)Oil on Masonite (Gessobord)$150 with FREE shipping and handling in the US and CanadaE-mail me for International shipping rates or other inquiries.Cooking is another one of my favorites things to do. My source of inspiration for many of these little gems is my kitchen. Olive s , garlic, onion, tomatoes, anything could get my attention to run quickly for my camera and to snap that special picture that later would become a painting, just like this one. After I finished this one, a few minutes ago, I called my son who was on his computer on the other room to come take a look at my last one (he's my best critic, and also a great young artist!). While he stopped in front of the painting he said "this one is blocky" meaning this one wasn't like some other still lives I've painted lately. I explained to him, the technique is the same exact one, the only thing that changed was the size and shape of the brush. He said he noticed I went back to paint blocks of colors, ...

Driving around without being able to turn my head as I was used to is not my way of safe driving, but needless to say, I have to drive to the doctor every other day, and yesterday afternoon was one of those days.I pass by this corner between 23 and Hayes here in Michigan , where this portion was left alone by builders (who knows until when) so I decided to stop by and take a picture with my cell phone, just to have a reference to paint. The light was perfect and the dried grass looked like a carpet.I know progress would eventually get to this piece of untouched land, and will be transformed in a subdivision or maybe a mall, eradicating completely what little wildlife remains in there. I hope this little study wouldn't be the only image left to remember the meadows at 23 mile and Hayes, i...

5" x 5" (12.7cm x 12.7cm)Oil on Gessoed 190lb Watercolor Paper$150 with FREE shipping and handling in the US and CanadaE-mail me for International shipping rates or other inquiries.I've had this bowl for quite a long time, and for some reason I was always "afraid" to paint it. Somehow I didn't feel prepared if that is possible to do it, or maybe the time was simply not right?...I used to paint large and painting the bowl in a large canvas didn't feel quite right.A couple of days ago, I found the bowl sitting inside one of my kitchen cabinets and decided to give it a try. The thing is that now with my stif neck I can't turn my head to paint from a live model, so instead I had to take a picture, print it out and clip it on my easel to being able to paint it, and to be honest I think this works even better for me, and for my neck of course.I'm quite please with this little one, and I know it will look fabulous anywhere you put it.Questions? My back, neck and even my shoulders and right hang hurt. I guess the daily painting for me would be more of a painting every two or three days, as that's how long is taking me lately to finish one! lol!! anyways, I finished this little one just a few minutes ago.Heliconias are one of the flowers I love the most, I grew up these gentle and exhitic flowers while I lived in Venezuela, South America, and not only they are very easy to grow, but they bring so much color to the garden.I'm trying to find some plants to grow them here in Michigan, but I guess because of the cold they are really hard to find. In any case if I ever get a plant, I'll grow it inside during the cold season and maybe take it outside during the summer time. This little one, as all of my daily paintings, are bein...

The one we saw today was nothing compared to the ones I used to live when I was a child in Puerto Ordaz, or even after I married my husband and lived for a while in Maturín.The sky could turn into the most bizarre colors and out of the blue a courtain of furious water would jump out of no where. But in that "we are preparing to rain" clouds the most amazing colors of the sunset would also appear. All these came into my mind this afternoon when I was watching outside the window how the rain was pouring and I remembered having some pictures of scenes in Venezuela, particularly in the plains of Venezuela. This scene brings back so many good and not so good memories of th...
