It didn't take as long as I thought it would be. I was thinking of at least 1 month to make all the necessary changes I needed, but I finished!For years I had one ID on eBay from where I was offering all, and I mean all my works to the world, mvstudio*gallery. Now this ID will be exclusively to offer my abstract creations only.For those of you interested in purchasing my other line of works the impressionist landscapes, still lifes, daily paintings and ACEOs, I created a new ID manuelavalenti. This new ID will serve the only purpose to offer my so very popular series of small daily paintings and ACEOs. Being an artist that creates 2 bodies of works completely different and who enjoys making them, I struggle somewhat whit how to present them online without creating a mixture of works in one place. Because of this I'm separating these two sides of me, the impressionist artist who creates landscapes and still lifes and the abstract more contemporary artist, in two completely different websites. www.manuelavalenti.com is left for my impressionist style, landscapes, still lifes and of course my daily paintings, while www.manuelavalenti.net is completely an abstract site with all my wild and surreal creations. Shadow Box for Painting

On my post below "6 Olives" I said I used a "shadow box" to help me to create the painting. Since that post I received quite a few questions from artists all over the world "what is a shadow box?" "where can I purchase one?" "how much it costs?".... so I decided today to post here what I call a shadow box, what is it for and how you can make your own for practically FREE.A shadow box is no more than a clean cardboard box and a lamp as you can see on the picture. The idea of the shadow box is to eliminate the excess of cast shadows that an object generates when too many sources of light hit it. The perfect studio is sometimes impossible and in my case I have a small window and 4 ceiling lamps. When I try to paint a still life set up in my studio, the object(s) generate 3 different shadows making my life a little difficult, so the shadow box comes in handy for this task.By placing the objects I want to paint inside the box and having an angular light hitting the object I'm producing ...

An important change

One of the things as artist and business we have to consider is when a change is needed or is happening under our nose and acknowledge it. For me it was the realization recently that I'm becoming a better observer and not only painting what I see but also what I haven't noticed before. This I think came with the daily painting discipline. Needing to find new subjects definitely created an impact in the way I paint and I visualize the things I paint. This inevitably has also changed the way I paint those subjects. Would that mean I'm growing as a painter? I so hope so.In any case my passion for color is not gone, as the director of one gallery in Spain told me once "the way you paint color, it became you" I guess he meant it became my signature maybe? but I find myself for quite sometime now painting a more lifelike approach of the landscapes and objects I paint. Rio Caliente is a village in the Asturias region in the norht of Spain. This village is very particular to me as is the place where my mother in law was born and all her family comes from.This stone made barn is over 100 years old and is still working today. The road to reach the town is so narrow that only one car can go through at a time. There are exactly 3 roads in the village and one of them is the bridge that crosses over the river to go to the other houses and the mountain behind.
