Queens
2008-08-13 13:30:00
Last summer in a rented garage on the outskirts of Queens , NY something incredible was happening. A group of imaginative tinkerers from Trinidad were working late into the nights creating something nobody had ever seen before: enormous stereo systems jury rigged onto ordinary bmx bikes. Traveling together, each behind the handlebars of his or her own massive homemade creation, they treat the neighborhood to an outrageous impromptu music and dance party on wheels. Directed by Randall Stevens, Made In Queens is a film celebrating America's first stereobike crew. Can't wait to see the Film!
14 Ways

A new ChangeThis Manifesto: 14 Ways to Get Breakthrough Ideas. "...It begins with the awareness of where ideas come from in the first place."14. Suspend LogicPerhaps einstein said it best when he declared ?not everything that can be counted counts; and not everything that counts can be counted.? He was referring, of course, to the part of the human being that knows intuitively, the part that is tuned in, connected, and innately creative. kids live in this place. the rest of us just visit, preferring the left-brained world of rationality, logic, linearity, and analysis. on some primal level, we?re all from missouri. we need proof. and while there is nothing inherently wrong with gathering data, the addiction to it subverts our ability to originate breakthrough ideas....

Dive
2008-08-06 19:42:00
As you may have mentioned on the lack of posts I'm quite busy. Working on great projects for a baby stroller, a book for Butterflyworks, the new identity for contain.r and off course Tenue de Nîmes (and 5 other projects...).To get some energy to get all the deadlines I've been parachuting last weekend. I think I never have had a higher heartbeat and more adrenaline in my body than that particular moment. 2000m above the ground, after a free fall of 1000m. Love it!!

Denham
2008-07-23 10:48:00
For 15 years Jason Denham has been building an archive of denim regalia that has become the inspiration for his signature collection. The first collection is aptly titled ?the truth is in the details? which illustrates Denham?s knowledge of vintage product combined with a passion for modern design. DENHAM is produced in Japan and Italy by a great jean maker called ?Hiro? who is also a sake maker. To celebrate the launch of DENHAM Hiro has gifted 100 bottles of the finest exclusive DENHAM branded sake. This is the first ever export of his family sake outside of Japan since 7 generations.DENHAM will open a gallery boutique denim store in Amsterdam (9 streets) in December.Looking forward to that!Thank you Menno for sharing

Flora Olbiensis
2008-07-09 09:12:00
A beautiful series of pictures by Erwan Frotin.Flora Olbiensis Frotin?s exuberant portraits of tiny wild flowers found in the fields and forests around the Villa Noailles in Hyères, France, resonate with the Surrealist history of the location. Built in 1925-27 by the architect Robert Mallet Stevens, the villa was a holiday home for the Vicountess Marie-Laure de Noailles, a famous patron of artists including Jean Cocteau, and Man Ray.

The One Flag
2008-06-17 02:25:00
Adbusters invite everybody to create a flag ? free from language and well-worn clichés ? that embodies the idea of global citizenship. A symbol that triggers pride and cohesion, whether worn on a backpack, displayed on a door, or flown on a flagpole. A symbol for anyone to declare membership in a growing and vital human cooperative. We invite you to prove that design has a real role to play in the fate of our world. Deadline for entries is December 1, 2008. Field

Interesting works by Nicola Dale"I think about time all the time. Whichever medium I use, I use it to think about years, hours, minutes and seconds. I have a lot of questions I am trying to answer: What is time? Where does it go? Can I play with it? Can I travel through it in a different direction? Can I waste it as well as gaining it? Will time eventually run out? The work I make is often time consuming. For instance, I have painted using a teat pipette (The Circus), moved grains of sand using tweezers (Repetitive Strain) and written a long rhyming poem using only other peoples lines of poetry (Cuckoo Song)."
