The European Union, through the federal motor transport authority Kraftfahrt-Bundesamt (KBA), feted German automaker Volkswagen AG for enforcing a recycling method that ensured the reusability and recoverability of VW cars. KBA president Ekhard Zinke presented the certificate of recognition to Volkswagen AG official in charge of the car recycling development Dr. Ulrich Hackenberg. It was the first such recognition to be issued by the KBA and confirmed that the Volkswagen Group is the first automaker worldwide to produce recyclable series vehicles. Volkswagen joined up with a waste solutions company called SiCon GmbH back in 1999 to develop a recycling process for end-of-life vehicles, which is particularly effective in protecting the environment and preserving resources. Fresh from setting the world record for fastest acceleration and highest top speed, the Bugatti Veyron is set to lend its seven-speed transmission technology to lower-cost cars made by the German automaker, officials at Volkswagen AG said. First on the vehicle lineup is the Volkswagen Golf, the automaker’s entry in the compact car division. Combined with the 2.0 TDI 103 kW/140 PS engine system of the car, the inclusion of the DSG technology is set to produce low revs typical of diesel vehicles, save fuel, and reduce harmful emissions.
