Nissan Lineup For Geneva Announced

The first day is barely in the can at the Chicago Auto Show, and already Nissan is trying to get attention for their stand at next month's show in Geneva . While this would make sense if Nissan were announcing the unveiling of something new, unique, and/or special, it just does not appear to be the case. Last year, Nissan unveiled the second generation of their highly successful X-Trail SUV in Switzerland. This wise move was predicated by the large annual European sales of the X-Trail. Barring any surprises by the Japanese automaker, the automaker will put their three most talked about models over the last year on the stand, but will have no world premiers at the show. Fanboys will gather around the Nissan GT-R throughout the duration of the show, 20-somethings and families will surround the new Nissan Murano, and curious onlooker will try to figure out what Nissan engineers were smoking when they created the Nissan Pivo II. Volkswagen Routan Unveiled at Chicago Auto Show

Volkswagen's new Routan minivan, product of a joint venture with Chrysler, was officially unveiled at the Chicago Auto Show today. Diehard fans of the VW Microbus, Vanagon and Eurovan who were hoping for something a little less conventional may be disappointed, though the very conservative Routan only resembles the Chryslers in silhouette. Front and rear clips are all Volkswagen, with a hint of Touareg up front and Rabbit at the rear, and the interior has been similarly redesigned with better materials and a more European look than the Chryslers on which it's based. Volkswagen has also retooled the suspension to give the Routan more in-the-family driving dynamics. Suzuki's 2009 Equator pickup truck goes on sale late this year to offer one-stop shopping for adventurous types seeking recreational motorcycles and four-wheelers and a vehicle to carry them with. The styling takes cues from the rest of the Suzuki lineup (and looks a little bit like an old Toyota Tundra) but it's not too hard to tell that the Equator's based on the Nissan Frontier. Power is provided by a choice of 152-horsepower 2.5 liter four-cylinder or 261-horsepower 4.0 liter V6 engines, and five-speed manual and automatic transmissions are offered. Towing capacity is a healthy 6500 pounds, and the fully boxed frame and double-wishbone front suspension are shared with Nissan. Cadillac is auctioning off a customized pink 2008 CTS at the MusiCares Person of the Year award gala on February 8th. The special car is autographed by legendary recording artist and 17 time GRAMMY winner Aretha Franklin, who is this year’s person of the year. Inspiration for the unique color of the CTS comes from the lyrics "Goin' ridin' on the freeway of love in my pink Cadillac" from Franklin’s song Freeway of Love. Mercedes-Benz has just released details about the reworked SL range. We brought you leaked images of the new model last week, which showed a much more aggressive front end that resembles the headlights on the CLS and the grill of the CL. After a long series of mods on several BMW models, HAMANN has now created a series of pretty special X5 models, clad with a range of 20, 22 and 23-inch wheels, smoked to perfection, HAMANN style.Pimping this car stylistically hasn’t been the only thing on HAMMAN’s minds though. Touches have gone beyond the ordinary, with changes visible from flat-bottomed, velvet-covered (aka alcantara) steering wheel, foot pedals clearly meant for performance purposes and extensive I.C.E. options.This being a HAMANN, as opposed to a Versace conversion, performance has to match the talk. Novitec has added some finishing touches to the new Alfa Romeo Spider , just in time for the cabrio season. The open two-seater was voted Cabrio of the Year 2006 after its launch at the Geneva Motor Show that year. Novitec has designed a new front bumper and rear diffuser to underline the aerodynamics and to make it stand out from the factory spec Spiders. Novitec also bolted on a new stainless steel rear silencer accentuating the sound, while the four tailpipes (115x85 mm ovals) add some aggressiveness to the back end. Novitec also supplies some new footwear for the Alfa Spider, 20 inch N9 multi-piece rims wrapped in Pirelli 255/30R20 rubber while the suspension, adjustable in height from 35 mm to 75 mm and ride stiffness, ensures optimum grip.

Today, BMW UK spilled the beans on their Geneva world debuts, the ones they want us know about in advance. No big surprises yet, BMW will show the new BMW 320d Convertible and 125i Coupé to an eager audience at the Geneva Motor Show starting March 4 alongside an EfficientDynamics Concept car. The BMW 320d Convertible uses a 2.0 liter engine, also found in the other 320d models, producing 177 hp and 350 Nm of torque. The cabrio will accelerate from stand-still to 62 mph (100 km/h) in 8.6 seconds, has a top speed of 139 mph (224 km/h) and manages a very respectable 53.3 mpg. The 320d Cabrio will go on sale in March 2008 priced at GBP 33,110 in the UK (approximately 44,500 Euro) while the M Sport model is priced slightly higher at GBP 35,735 (48,00 Euro). The current owner (Craig Lieberman) purchased this 1994 Toyota Supra with 54,000 miles on the clock in June of 1998. Previously owned by a business-man, the car was totally unmodified when sold to the current owner. However, that was soon to change. Immediately upon acquisition, the car underwent a host of modifications in the interest of using the car for advertising and promotion. Companies such as GReddy, Eibach, Stillen, Clarion and NOS were all participants in this project. The first round of modifications included new candy yellow paint, 18” wheels/tires, a mild sound system upgrade and some body kit components, plus engine detailing. The car then toured the show circuit, doing quite well. At least 6 major magazine features were done on the car. Over that winter, the car underwent its’ next round of modifications.
