Ford Recalls 140,000 Vehicles for Defective Latches, Drivetr

In another round of misfortune, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has announced that Ford is recalling 139,537 of its 2005 Five Hundred and Mercury Montego sedans and 2005-2006 Freestyle crossover vehicles either sold or registered in 31 cold-weather states.The recall was due to problems with the vehicles? side door latch which could allow water intrusion -- which in turn could cause the latch to freeze in cold conditions and allow the door to open in traffic.Ford is likewise recalling 6,164 of its 2006 front-wheel-drive Escape hybrid SUVs to fix a drivetrain shaft.
