BOSTON -- Massachusetts lawmakers are debating a bill that would require use of booster seats for older children riding in motor vehicles.NewsCenter 5's Steve Lacy reported that the Bay State is the only state in New England without a booster seat law."In 2001 through 2005, there were more than 800 6- and 7-year-olds killed across the country in car crashes, and 42 percent of those children killed were secured in adult safety belts, not booster seats," AAA's Art Kinsman said.Read the full article here.

A law designed to protect young passengers gets tougher July 1, when warnings for violations of the booster seat law will be replaced by citations carrying a fine of $60, plus court costs. The law requires motorists to properly restrain children ages 4 through 7 in a booster seat, unless the child weighs more than 80 pounds or is taller than 4 feet, 9 inches.Read full story
