Toyota considering shifting Camry production to Indiana truck plant
2008-06-07 05:00:00
Toyota considering shifting Camry production to Indiana truck plant In the wake of America's mass exodus from large trucks and SUVs, Toyota is considering shifting production of its efficient Camry to its Indiana truck plant. Toyota sold 51,291 Camrys last month while Tundra sales slipped 31.5 percent. The future of the Indiana plant — which produces the Toyota Tundra pickup, Sequoia SUV and Sienna minivan — has been up in the air for several months now. Earlier reports suggest that Toyota would move Tundra production exclusively to its new plant in San Antonio, Texas, with the latest reports indicating Toyota would export vehicles made at its Indiana plant. The move to produce Camrys at its truck plant would seem to be a smart one for Toyota. Not only would it allowed Toyota to maximize its production capacity, but it would give the Japanese automaker a third U.S. Camry plant at a time when demand for fuel-efficient vehicles is on the rise. We're pretty...

Lamborghini reveals action photos of Gallardo LP560-4, pricing for U.K. market Lamborghini's newest raging bull, the Gallardo LP560-4, has finally stretched its legs at a recent press event in Las Vegas, and the Italian supercar maker shared its high-res photos of the car in action. It has also revealed pricing information for the car, albeit for the U.K. market only. The Gallardo has been around since 2004, and the baby Lambo for the first time sports a top speed of more than 200mph, thanks largely to its 552hp output. Its 0-62mph sprint is rated at 3.7 seconds, while weight has been decreased slightly over the outgoing model. Buyers across the pond can purchase the basic Gallardo LP560-4 for £147,330 (an equivalent of about $287,500), though official U.S. pricing should be slightly lower.

GM shopping Hummer brand to India?s Tata and Mahindra & Mahindra
2008-06-07 00:54:00
GM shopping Hummer brand to India 's Tata and Mahindra & Mahindra India's Tata Motors may have just acquired Jaguar and Land Rover from Ford, but it looks as though the Indian automaker may not be done buying up American-owner car companies. According to a new report, General Motors has approached both Tata Motors and its cross-town rival — Mahindra & Mahindra — about the possible acquisition of its Hummer brand. India's Economic Times is reporting that GM's representatives have approach both companies about the possible acquisition of the iconic, but now out of fashion, off-road brand. GM announced that it was considering the sale of its Hummer brand earlier this week at its annual meeting. In the face of $4 a gallon gasoline, Hummer sales are down 36 percent this year — including a 60 percent drop-off in sales last month. GM failed to confirm the report, but told Automotive News that its review of what to do with the brand "is...

Toyota launches updated version of zero-emissions FCHV fuel-cell vehicle
2008-06-07 00:46:00
Toyota launches updated version of zero-emissions FCHV fuel-cell vehicle Toyota announced on Friday that it has developed a new hydrogen fuel-cell vehicle that is far more advanced than the automaker's previous-generation fuel-cell vehicle. The new system now allows the vehicle — dubbed the FCHV-adv — to travel 516 miles on a single tank of hydrogen and it can operate in conditions as cold as -22 degrees F. Through changes to the vehicle's fuel-cell unit, braking system and a few other tweaks, Toyota engineers were able to improve the fuel-cell's fuel efficiency by 25 percent, according to Automotive News. Those changes combined with a bigger fuel tank and the doubling of storage pressure netted a new range of 516 miles — up from the previous FCHV's (pictured) range of 205 miles. Top speed is a respectable 97 mph. In comparison, Honda's FCX Clarity hydrogen fuel-cell sedan has a range of 385 miles and can operate in conditions from -22...

2008-06-07 00:17:00
Porsche to move downmarket, offer a Rabbit-based hatch? Today's rumors have a Porsche-badged, VW-based hatch coming to market by as early as 2012. While this is not likely to happen, especially with the recent ruling of a German court upholding the controversial so-called 'VW Law,' the idea does appeal to some German sports car and hot hatch enthusiasts. According to AutoBild magazine's latest cover, the text of which literally translates to "compact secret projects until 2012. The Porsche-Golf,? the car will become reality. This implies the hatchback would be based on the Rabbit/Golf platform, and there are a few basic things wrong with this picture. For one, the platform underpins front-wheel drive cars — granted, the Golf R32 makes do with all-wheel drive — which is a layout Porsche has never utilized. Many would see this as sacrilege for Germany's traditional sports car maker, which earned its reputation as the maker of rear-drive, re...

Car Insurance - Are You Paying Over the Odds?
2008-06-06 23:40:00
I'm sure many of you have, at one point or other, been on the receiving end of seemingly exorbitant premiums.Whether this is a cause of points on your licence, an unexpected loss of no claims due to collision or merely the result of buying that speedy little car you've had your eye on for years, it can still be a nasty surprise. There are a few things you can do however to decrease the price of those monster policies and here they are: Don't accept the renewal you receive from your existing insurer as 9 times out of 10, you will find a cheaper policy by searching around online. Do be as accurate as you can with your estimated mileage - rounding up this figure will cost more as you will be increasing your risk due to more time spent on the road. Add an older more experienced driver to your policy - this will bring the premium down as having this less risky driver makes you a safer prospect. If you can afford to pay out a higher excess at the time of a claim you can increase this fi...

2008-06-06 08:00:00
Chrysler extends June incentives on most Dodge vehicles Chrysler's Let's Refuel America campaign may not be increasing the automaker's sales figures, but that's not stopping Chrysler from extending the program on most Dodge vehicles. From now until the end of June, Dodge will be offering increased incentives on most its vehicles — with the largest incentives being placed on the company's thirstiest vehicles. In addition to cash back or the Let's Refuel America deal, Dodge will be offering both incentive programs on some of its vehicles. The biggest deals can be had on the Dodge Ram, with customers able to choose from as much as $5,000 cash back or $3,000 cash back and the Let's Refuel America gas card. Durango buyers can choose from a similar scheme, with the gas card coming with $1,000 cash back. Almost any Dodge vehicle powered by a V8 will see some combination of cash back and the $2.99 gas guarantee. Dodge's smallest vehicle, the Ca...

Yes it?s true! Tata Nano video!
2008-06-06 07:23:00
Our great Indian connections provided us with and exclusive video showing Tata Nano testing on the road. Thanks to our source. The Tata Nano was launched earlier this year at the Delhi Autoexpo and once again in Geneva for the European audience. The Nano was never photographed testing until now, where a watchful Indian has video taped a test car without any camo. The base model sans the bells and whistles was doing its test runs in the famous Pune-Mumbai express way during the incident. One can get a close look at the car in action from this video. With land disputes at the originally proposed plant location, Tata had taken counter measures to smoothen things out and avoid delays in introducing the car in the market by deciding to manufacture the first batch of cars from another plant. A couple of months back, this plant had set about rolling out test vehicles so that the state and efficiency of the production line could be assessed and necessary changes can be made before the ma...

"If you think that "living it up" means driving home from the Toronto airport in a limousine instead of the usual cab, then you must have no idea what the "have mores" have been indulging in recently. The list of things the world’s filthy rich can have been spending their hard-earned/ inherited money on are continuously expanding, and those of us less financially blessed can do nothing more than widen our eyes in shock, turn green with envy or shake our head in a mixture of disbelief and shock at their excesses.$55-Million WeddingIf the only daughter of one of the world’ richest man gets married, most would expect the wedding to be an opulent affair. But Vanisha Mittal’s, daughter of steel magnate Lakshmi Mittal, 2004 million dollar wedding surpassed everyone’s expectations and imaginations. Costing anywhere from $55 to $60 million, the wedding is considered to be the most expensive wedding in the world. Held at the Palace of Versailles, the celebration featured a concert from Kylie...

I Have to Sell my Aston Martin By Laura Copple
2008-06-06 06:07:00
After much deliberation I decided, or rather my partner decided, I had to sell my Aston Martin . It’s a beautiful car and it pains me to say goodbye to her, after all we had done many miles together, but with an expanding family, which includes the addition of two dogs, my pride and joy has to make room for a larger vehicle. I did suggest we buy a bus, but I was met with the ‘look,’ so I dismissed that idea even though I did fancy a double-decker like the one Cliff Richard drove around in the film ‘Summer Holiday.’Last weekend I started to prepare my Aston Martin for the market by giving her a wash-and-brush up. I began with the outside of the car to wash away the road grime, remembering to clean the wheel arches, and the inner panel of the doors. The alloys were treated to an alloy wheel cleaner and looked ‘as new’ by the time I’d finished with them. I completed the clean with a polish and buffed my car to a mirror finish. The next job was to clean the inside of my car. I vacuumed t...

Audi to debut next-gen MMI in Q5
2008-06-06 04:40:00
Audi to debut next-gen MMI in Q5 Audi has announced the next-generation of its MMI 3G infotainment system will bow this fall in its all-new Q5 SUV. Co-developed with Harman/Becker Automotive Systems, the system promise to be smoother and more user-friendly than Audi's current generation of electronics. At the heart of the new system is a high-performance NVIDIA® graphics processor that will ensure smooth transitions off the vehicle's GPS system. The system will also feature a three-dimensional landscape view that reproduces true-to-scale terrain and photorealistic depiction of points of interest. Corporate logos will also be part of the package, which, although annoying, is probably a sign of the times. In addition to upgraded navigation, the next-generation of MMI will also include iPod and other external device connectivity, Bluetooth and satellite radio. The technology will first appear in the Q5, but look for it to quickly spread throughout Audi's lineup.

GM set to buy hybrid battery supplier
2008-06-06 04:25:00
GM set to buy hybrid battery supplier After a battery recall that cost General Motors at least 9,000 units of its mild hybrid vehicles, the auto giant is nearing a deal to purchase its battery supplier — Detroit's Cobasys LLC. The move would safeguard GM's battery supply until 2010 and would also help to prevent any future recalls. Cobasys is currently owned by Chevron Corp. and Energy Conversion Devices Inc., but neither company can agree who is responsible for the battery supplier — a situation that is ultimately slowing the selling process. GM has hired BBK Limited to conduct a final analysis on Cobasys and recommend acquisition strategies. According to Automotive News, GM could setup a partnership with Cobasys, but GM would be the 100 percent owner. GM has a vested interest in Cobasys as its closure would force the automaker to find a new supplier of batteries for its mild hybrid vehicles — the Saturn Aura Green Line, Vue Green Line and Chevrol...

Chrysler is just as good as Toyota , at building cars that is Chrysler's sales numbers may be in the tank, but the Michigan-based automaker has at least one thing to be proud of. A new report has found that Chrysler is tied with Toyota for production efficiency, and the Auburn Hills-based automaker even snagged the title of most productive North American plant for its Toledo, Ohio Jeep facility. According to the Harbour Report, it takes Chrysler just 30.37 labor hours to produce a vehicle, tying Toyota's mark. General Motors and Ford also saw improvements — now taking 32.29 and 33.88 labor hours per vehicle, respectively — but not enough to take the number one spot. Chrysler's Toledo South plant — which manufactures the Jeep Wrangler — also took the honor of most productive plant, requiring just 13.57 labor hours per vehicle. Number two on the list was GM's Oshawa, Ontario plant — which builds the Chevrolet Impala — at 15.1...

BMW releases teaser video of GINA Light Visionary Model , set for June 10 unveiling BMW has announced that it will unveil a new concept on June 10th at the BMW Museum in Munich. Dubbed the GINA Light Visionary Model, the German automaker failed to release any details on the car but did release a teaser video of the GINA Light Visionary Model in transit. Judging by what we can see through the camouflage, the GINA Light Visionary Model looks like it will take several design cues from the recently unveiled BMW M1 Homage concept. However, it looks like the latest Bavarian concept will be sans roof, so the GINA could be a convertible version of the M1 concept. Whatever the case, the new concept looks like it means business — it's low and wide and has a menacing quad-exhaust setup. Check back for more details after the car's official unveiling in just a few days.
