Disadvantages of Hybrid Electric Vehicles By C.l. Hendricks
2008-05-28 20:22:00 There are many disadvantages of hybrid electric vehicles. First of all, hybrid electric vehicles are not all-electric vehicles. They do require gasoline to drive.Hybrid electric vehicles use regenerative braking to get their electricity. The gas energy is captured off of the brakes and stored as electricity. All electric vehicles are a much better alternative in terms of cutting down smog. There are several available today.Hybrid electric vehicles are also inferior to hydrogen fuel cell vehicles. Many automotive companies are working on hydrogen fuel cell vehicles in production now. Very soon Chevy will come out with a hydrogen fuel cell vehicle. While hybrid electric vehicles are low smog emission vehicles, they do produce emissions. Hydrogen fuel cell vehicles produce water as their emission, making them far superior to hybrid electric vehicles. Or better yet take public transportation in a city that uses hydrogen fuel cell buses.Although hybrid electric vehicles are readily availa... Chrysler?s Nardelli: Chrysler open to more Nissan-like partnerships
2008-05-28 20:16:00 Chrysler's Nardelli: Chrysler open to more Nissan -like partnerships Chrysler has already inked a deal Nissan that will see the Detroit-based automaker selling a Chrysler-badged Nissan-made small car in the U.S., and it looks as though Chrysler could be signing more of those kinds of deals in the coming years. Chrysler CEO Bob Nardelli says that he is open to buying more models from other automakers, as long as it makes fiscal sense for Chrysler. "We will not suffer from the not-invented-here syndrome," Nardelli told the Detroit Free Press. "If we can have similar arrangements … and it makes financial sense and supports our dealer network relative to what customers are telling them they want, we're going to go do it." Nardelli also said that Chrysler has sped up its small car development in the face of $4 a gallon gasoline and is gambling on hybrids and electric vehicles to be the technology of the future. "Hybrid, electric — if you... More About: Chrysler , In the News , Open

Aston Martin not for sale, says David Richards
2008-05-28 20:05:00 Aston Martin not for sale, says David Richards Despite last month's rumors and the ensuing denials that Aston Martin is looking for a buyer, today's reports have company chairman and Prodrive chief David Richards flat out denying the rumors. Richards, speaking in an Autocar interview, said the speculations are a result of Aston's talking to suppliers in an effort to secure a new engine contract, as the maker's current one with Ford expires in 2012. "The company is not for sale," he said. One of the parties Aston was in talks with included Mercedes-Benz, believed to be bidding for the British marque, but it now seems the two were discussing powerplant. ?We are talking to Mercedes, but then we are talking to Ford and we talk to everybody,? Richards said. Ford sold Aston Martin to a consortium lead by Richards and others last year. The Aston Martin Vantage recently received a power boost courtesy of a new, bigger engine, and the company's Vantage ... More About: For Sale , Aston Martin , In the News , Sale
Give your Car a Facelift By Arleigh Mile
2008-05-28 20:05:00 I am obsessed with my used automobile I bought from a friend. No it isn’t anything ‘flashy’, but it has been reliable, I like the colour and it is comfortable to drive long distances. Just lately, I had been seriously thinking of selling it and buying something quite new. When I went online, to see what I could find in my price range, there were so many gorgeous new or used cars for sale, I just could not decide. I thought I would buy and sell online, but after doing some sums, I decided to make my little car more comfortable, by changing a few things inside and out.I was not too sure with what enhancements I wanted, but I did know that I wanted to keep the interior and exterior of my car looking like brand new. Each year I spend a lot of my time in my vehicle and drive with my friends who also owns Australian cars, thats why I wanted more comfort, luxury and a new appearance. By doing a few small things and by rejuvenating my second largest investment, I solved my dilemma, and you ... More About: Interesting , Facelift , Mile , Give
More Subaru/Toyota sports coupe details emerge
2008-05-28 19:55:00 More Subaru /Toyota sports coupe details emerge It seems Subaru's earlier concerns about having to share the marketplace with a nearly identical model from Toyota will be put to rest, as Wednesday's reports say Toyota will only sell its yet-to-be-named version in Japan. While this may be bad news to Toyota fans, the car will have a typically Subaru feel, as its mechanicals and platform are sourced from the Impreza range. Turning the coupe's rear wheels will be a naturally aspirated version of Subaru's 2.0 liter flat-four (long discontinued in North American versions) tuned to produce somewhere around 220 horsepower at 6,500rpm, according to Inside Line. Expect the engine to be a bit of a screamer, in similar vein to Honda / Acura's great and late Integra Type R, which the two automakers reportedly used as a benchmark. A six-speed manual borrowed from the WRX STI is the only transmission revealed thus far. The image of the Subaru-branded coupe comes court... More About: Sports , In the News , Details

2008-05-28 00:58:00 GM officially kills rear-wheel drive Chevrolet Impala, Buick model General Motors' on again, off again rear-wheel drive sedan plans are, well, off again. The U.S.' largest automaker has been mulling over a rear-wheel drive Chevrolet Impala and a rear-wheel drive Buick sedan, but both plans have been canceled due to newly passed CAFE regulations. A source familiar with GM's plans revealed to Automotive News that GM had actually planned to release a rear-wheel drive Impala in 2011. The design featured a long hood and short decklid and was about 3 inches longer than the front-wheel drive 2008 model. The source also revealed that the rear-wheel drive Impala was slated to get an SS version, which would have featured a V8 producing more than 350 horsepower. However, the 35 mpg CAFE regulations have forced GM to scraps its large rear-wheel drive plans. Both of the canceled models were slated to ride on the same Zeta platform that underpins the Pontiac G8 and the upcom... More About: In the News , Drive , Model

BMW M1 Hommage concept headed for production
2008-05-27 23:36:00 BMW M1 Hommage concept headed for production BMW resurrected the spirit of its M1 with the recent unveiling of the M1 Hommage concept, and it looks as though the Bavarian supercar is once again headed to production, a new report finds. A time frame for the reborn M1 has yet to be announced, but a few other details have been revealed. In an interview with Car magazine, BMW board member Herbert Diess revealed that the M1 Hommage concept will indeed make production. "We have the know-how, we have the right engine, we even have the infrastructure to build such a car," he said. Despite Diess spilling the beans to Car, the British magazine is saving the goods for its July 2008 issue. However, Car's online site did reveal a little bit about the upcoming model. Although the M1 Hommage concept has a strong connection to the M1 BMW produced between 1978 and 1981, the road-going version of the concept will not wear the M1 nameplate. A mid-engine setup will be part of the e... More About: In the News , Production , Concept
Why Is Auto Insurance Important For Female Drivers?
2008-05-27 22:59:00 A lot of men like to joke about lady drivers - It is a certainty that you have heard some of these old sexist jokes, urban legends and so on. Well, the joke is really on the male chauvinists who spread these jokes around. Statistically, women have far fewer accidents than do male drivers and as such generally receive lower rates on insurance premiums than do their male counterparts. So why is auto insurance important for female drivers? That's a simple enough question with an even simpler answer. Female drivers need auto insurance because they are drivers - simple as that. Regardless of gender, every driver needs to protect themselves in case of an accident. What would happen if you were to get into an accident while driving and were uninsured? It's a nightmare -the costs of repair, medical bills if you were to be injured, lawsuits if the other party in the accident has been injured; it could financially ruin you. Therefore, for drivers, whether male or female, insurance is a must-... More About: Drivers , Insurance , Auto Insurance , Auto
Car Insurance For Teenagers - Why Teens Pay More? Discover 5 Proven Tips To
2008-05-27 22:44:00 Car insurance for teenagers can be so expensive that it can raise most households' insurance expenses at least fifty percent. For example, the rates for a teenage driver could be twice that for an adult driver. We usually wonder why the rates can differ so much since adults and teen drivers are almost equal in every aspect except for their age.As we have all well known, teenagers are being considered as reckless drivers by insurance companies and that's the most important reason why they are being required to pay higher premiums. Most teenagers have high curiosity level and love challenges. Therefore, we usually do not deny that teenagers are more likely to try new driving skills out compared to adults, and sometimes these are actually dangerous things to do while driving. Statistics also show that teenagers are involved in a higher number of car accidents than all other groups of drivers sum together. Therefore, it is obvious that teenagers have higher probabilities to crash a ca... More About: Teens , Insurance , Car Insurance , Tips , Teenagers

2008-05-27 12:42:00 Next Chrysler 300 to keep same exterior look but receive significant interior improvements The Chrysler 300 has been one of the biggest sales successes in the automaker's recent history, but that popularity is making the car's redesign all that much more difficult. Chrysler engineers and designers are finding it hard to walk the thin line between leaving well enough alone and giving the car a fresh new look. Although the large sedan has virtually nothing in common with Porsche's 911, Chrysler designers are taking a page out of the German automaker's book. By and large the 911's redesigns have been evolutionary rather than revolutionary, and Chrysler will be building on that philosophy for the next-generation 300 — look for it to sport a boxy shape with a blunt front fascia. After all, why change a good thing? While the car's exterior will remain similar to the current model's, the 300's interior will see a ?huge leap? forward, accordin... More About: In the News

GM seeks Volt tax break to lower the $40k price
2008-05-27 06:40:00 news A source familiar with GM’s Volt program says some proposals for federal tax credits could knock up to $7,000 off the Volt’s price. Company insiders now predict 10,000 to 30,000 Volt sales in the first year, with volume growing as it hits full production. GM is counting on the Volt to be a high-volume seller after the first few years. GM expects to bring the Volt to market by November 2010, sources say. "There haven’t been any recent developments that threaten the timing," says a source familiar with the project. "To the contrary, our confidence in the lithium ion battery continues to grow. But we still have a lot of development and testing to go." More About: In the News , Break , Price , Lower

GM seeking tax break for Volt, set to cost near $40,000
2008-05-26 19:32:00 GM seeking tax break for Volt, set to cost near $40,000 Every time we hear of an update on the Chevrolet Volt, it seems to be either that it is not likely to make its projected November 2010 launch date or will cost more than originally planned. That stays true today, as Monday's reports have GM lobbying Congress to offer a tax credit on the plug-in electric vehicle, which features a gasoline engine for back-up. If approved, the tax breaks would shave as much as about $7,000 from the Volt's retail price, according to sources close to the project cited in an Automotive News report. The production numbers in the first year would range from 10,000 to 30,000, and grow as time goes on. "The whole story on pricing is still a work in progress," says the unnamed source. "Absent some sort of tax incentive, a $30,000 price is not likely." While neither the Toyota Camry hybrid nor Toyota Prius can match the Volt's claimed 40 mile range on electricity alone... Monaco Recap
2008-05-26 12:23:00 Mixed weather conditions in Monaco . Just the thing to stir up the nattering, passless procession that inevitably occurs here each May. As the lights went out for the start, the rain fell in earnest. Polesitter Felipe Massa in the Ferrari got away quickly, but Lewis Hamilton in 3rd got the jump on the 2nd place position of Kimi Raikkonen. Robert Kubica in the the 5th place BMW-Sauber got away quickly as well. This marked the first rainy race in the post-traction control era, so it was great to see these multi-million-dollar machines gettin’ sideways just inches from disaster, the truest test of the F1 pilot’s skills. Despite qualifying poorly yesterday, Nick Heidfeld in the other BMW-Sauber gained an impressive five spots in the first five laps, jumping from 13th to 7th. It seemed the race never really settled into a rhythm, and as the rain continued to fall, the rooster tails grew. Who would crash first? While both Hamilton and Fernando Alonso in the Renault had mi... More About: Recap

BMW M6 Hurricane by G-Power with 635hp
More articles from this author:2008-05-26 08:18:00 One of the world?s fastest and most powerful convertibles is made by G-POWER. The 335-km/h G-POWER M6 HURRICANE is based on the latest BMW M6. At the heart of the high-performance convertible is a five-liter V10 engine with G-POWER BI-Kompressor system that delivers 635 hp / 467 kW. To achieve the desired increase in power output of 128 hp / 94 kW for the fast-revving engine that normally produces 507 hp / 373 kW, G-POWER has developed a high-tech supercharging system. The system uses one belt-driven ASA T1-12 compressor for each cylinder bank. Contrary to conventional mechanical chargers that waste a large portion of the additional power on being driven themselves, the ASA compressor has an efficiency rate of up to 80 percent. The ASA charger is also small, which allows G-POWER to install two of them in the tight confines of the M6 engine bay. With a maximum airstream volume of up to 1,200 kg per hour per cylinder bank the compressors are designed for an even higher power output th...
