2011-07-15 06:02:00 (Photo by Chris Graythen/Getty Images) Welcome readers, for the past two weeks now, NASCAR has been taking a big hit from the fans following back to back disappointments when it came to both of the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series races at Daytona International Speedway and Kentucky Speedway. It looks like a black eye for sure to me. However in and among all of the racing and talk, I?ve managed to come up with 6 things I?ve learned from both races. 1. Most NASCAR fans don?t like the tandem two-car drafting ?prom date?, ?tag team? or whatever you call it racing at Daytona or Talladega. In my 20 years of watching NASCAR, I don?t think I?ve really seen one thing that NASCAR fans have hated more than this tandem racing. I believe that NASCAR should change there view here and rework the restrictor plate racing and at least make one rule change for the upcoming Talladega Superspeedway race this fall during the chase to have these races become more entertaining for the fans and that also puts... The fact is while I hate to rain the everyone?s parade, this race simply wasn't all that entertaining to watch live on TNT, even with a few late race restarts thrown into the mix... NASCAR should run the Brickyard 400 4-race Super Weekend at Indianapolis Mo
2011-07-08 00:40:00 Yesterday?s press conference at Indianapolis Motor Speedway confirmed the last few weeks? speculation that the NASCAR Nationwide Series and the Grand-Am Road Racing Series including the Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge would join the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series to create a 4-race Brickyard 400 super weekend. The Grand-Am Rolex Series and the Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge would race on the 13-turn IMS 2.523-mile infield road course Friday, July 27, while the Nationwide Series and of course the Sprint Cup Series would complete on the 2.5-mile oval on Saturday (Nationwide) and Sunday (Cup Series). But while the press conference was good news on NASCAR, IMS and the Grand-Am Road Racing Series, fans were left with mixed feelings and left some unanswered question marks as well. Like for example, why NASCAR would take a good race from the 0.686-mile short track and move it to the 2.5-mile oval at Indianapolis Motor Speedway? Will the Truck Series continue to race at the ne... More About: Nascar , Super , Race , Weekend

2011-07-04 00:24:00 About a month ago, American Chopper had there two part season finale where Cadillac commissioned both Paul Jr. Designs and Orange County Choppers to each build them a new chopper to be auction off for charity. 2011-07-03 19:58:00 When I woke up this morning and checked my email, I found an interesting email that I have to imagine was addressing not only last night's NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Coke Zero 400 at Daytona International Speedway which was won by David Regan with help from Matt Kenseth, but restrictor plate racing in general. This is not racing... they need to do away with it... fans need to stop attending these stupid events... if you thought last nights finish at Daytona was good for racing you are wrong. Do away with this dumb form of racing. Regards, Ray (last name removed)Personally I would like to thank Ray for voicing his opinion especially in a clean way. I always like to hear what other fans of NASCAR, country music, and entertainment in general have to say. So now I'm asking my readers, do you like or dislike restrictor plate racing? And did you like the old packing racing or this new "tag team", "prom date", "partner" form of racing that we have been seeing at Talladega and Dayto... More About: Email , Question , Racing

2011-07-01 21:11:00 As the 2011 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series season nears the halfway point, I?ve been for the most part enjoying several of the races so far this season. But there are a few things that have caught my eye that I truly believe that NASCAR should address in the coming months and especially for the 2012 NASCAR Cup Series season. Now of course I?m sure that several people who read this will say, but Brian if it isn?t broke, don?t fix it. And while I do agree with that statement, I have to say that in all of these cases, in my opinion, these are broke or could be simply improved, so they need to be fixed. Anyway, here is a top 6 bold moves NASCAR should consider in the near future and for the 2012 season... 2011-06-29 21:26:00 As the Coke Zero 400 at the Daytona International Speedway is coming up this Saturday night, Pepsi has gotten in on this upcoming race with a new video with the Pepsi Max truck driver driving cross country with NASCAR driver Jeff Gordon. Pepsi seemed to have a lot of fun with this video including who is going to drive, does Jeff Gordon actually know how to change a tire to donuts in a big rig. Have a look. What do you think? 2011-06-28 23:27:00 As the 2011 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series season nears the half way point, this is the time of the year that rumors and speculation begins to ramp up on who is going to go where in 2012 and beyond. However unlike in past seasons where major drivers have made big moves like in 2007 where Dale Earnhardt Jr., joined Hendrick Motorsports for 2008, in 2008, Tony Stewart on the move to his own team, Stewart-Haas Racing for 2009. Or even more, in 2009, where Jamie McMurray which ended up at EGR for 2010 and of course last year (2010), where Kasey Kahne that right now is at Red Bull Racing, but signed a deal with Hendrick Motorsports for the #5 ride in 2012. For 2012, no big named drivers look to be making any big moves for there future. I mean, Clint Bowyer says him staying at RCR is his number 1 choice. I haven?t heard too much in the way of Ryan Newman, it looks like Stewart-Haas Racing will be his home for another few years as well as Juan Montoya, he looks to be re-signing with EGR. Of ... 2011-06-20 00:12:00 Welcome readers, while I was watching the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Heluva Good 400 race at Michigan Speedway on TNT earlier today, I found two things to be interesting. 1. You see in watching the Cup Series race on TNT, I found the race boring. Now I don?t put much of this on NASCAR as such as its just a fact that some races are simply boring and most Michigan races are included on that list. It seemed to me that it was a cross between long green flag runs that strung the entire field with minimum passing opportunities as passing is what key element to a good race. And unfortunately for TNT broadcast crew and I?m talking about the three in the announcement booth, there broadcast was hard to listen too. 2. However, during the Michigan Cup Series race, today was the first time that I logged on to TNT?s RaceBuddy on NASCAR.com since it was made available and I can see what many NASCAR fans are raving about. The several enhanced cameras, leaderboard and chat on the right side is... More About: Nascar , Online
2012 Brickyard 400: Grand-Am Series and NASCAR both on the road course? Not
2011-06-15 22:25:00 Welcome readers, after last season?s Brickyard 400 that let?s be honest was an ok race that also had low attendance (keep in mind, that?s low attendance for Indy, not for a track such as Homestead mind you), I began to think about the future of the Brickyard 400. Since I don?t want to see NASCAR leave the Brickyard, something else needed to change and after that race I thought that maybe the Cup Series should race on the infield road course instead of the oval. Well that idea went nowhere as the chase was on the horizon. But fast forward to today as SPEED.com?s Robin Miller reported that the GRAND-AM Rolex Series will be racing at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway in 2012 on the Brickyard 400 race weekend either on Friday or Saturday for a three-hour race on the infield road course. Now at this moment, this is only a report (rumor/speculation) and nothing is official. But think about it for a moment, the Grand -Am Series possible coming to the Indianapolis Motor Speedway to run a t... More About: Nascar , Road

2011-06-14 23:12:00 Welcome readers, for the third class, today at the NASCAR Hall of Fame, it was announced that Cale Yarborough, Darrell Waltrip, Dale Inman, Richie Evans and Glenn Wood would be the 2012 NASCAR Hall of Fame Inductees. I believe that each year, this process is going to get harder and harder as we go along, but I have to say that unlike the 2011 class, I?m not as surprised as I thought I would be except for one. So without further delay, here we go, here is the 2012 class of the NASCAR Hall of Fame and what a class it is including well deserved and overdue. 1. Cale Yarborough, Driver (1957-1988), winner of three consecutive NASCAR Sprint Cup titles, 1976-78, 83 Cup wins and 4-Time Daytona 500 winner. Simply put well deserved and overdue. I thought Cale should have gone in 2011, but you know the biggest deal here is at least he got in and that?s what?s going to happen with everybody. 2. Darrell Waltrip, winner of 84 races, three NASCAR Sprint Cup championships, 1989 Daytona 500 winn... More About: Nascar

2011-06-14 22:38:00 Welcome ladies and gentlemen, today I am announcing that after a much needed two month long hiatus, I have decided to return to my passion of blogging and officially re-launch RaceDriven.com and continue on this amazing and yet extremely challenging journey of blogging and building a successful site. But in coming back to RaceDriven.com and re-launching the blog, I?m also going to rebrand RaceDriven.com as sort of not only evolving RaceDriven, but bringing fresh and interesting content and discussion back. Isn?t that what blogging is all about. So from here on out, RaceDriven.com will now be known as an Entertainment Blog that focusing on TV, Movie, Music, Cars, Racing, NASCAR and beyond. So with RaceDriven.com returning and being rebranded, that basically means that BVinsight.com is useless, right? Not exactly, you see, recently I found myself starting to love the concept of both Facebook and Twitter, but not the sites/companies themselves. Let me explain, simply put, first, Twi... The Most and Least Expensive 2011 Vehicles to Insure.
2011-01-14 00:36:00 As we are only a few weeks into the new year (2011), consumers are already in full swing of the car buying season and in keeping with the buying a new or used car theme, today I wanted to address the insurance part of buying a new car. Now I have to say that while the most expensive cars do appear on this list, keep in mind that the least expensive cars also appear as well and if you use this information for your next car buying experience, you should have a general idea of how much flexibility there could be in your new car insurance bill for that next major purchase. The list also allows us car enthusiasts to dream about buying that amazing dream machine and of course get slapped down a little on the insurance price. The most expensive 2011 vehicles to insure have to start with a Mercedes SL65 AMG roadster that could come in at an annual cost of $3,544 for a clean driver. However as a car guy who does like to think about owning a dream machine, I particularly love #8, the Porsch... More About: Automobiles , Vehicles
7 tips that can help you buy a new or used car.
2011-01-05 03:27:00 Welcome readers, its the New Year 2011 and for so many consumers all over the world, especially here in the United States, the beginning of December thru the end of January signals the most popular time of the year to buy a new or used vehicle. I really don't know why consumers choose this time of the year to shop for a vehicle, maybe they want to start out the new year with a new or used vehicle or a tax deduction perhaps, but in any case right now is the busiest time of the year to buy a vehicle. So because of that and also considering a family member of mine is doing the very same right now as well, I thought that this would be a good topic of discussion as I share some tips that I have learned over the years, read and am currently learning now that could help consumers along this journey. This post is brought to you by Bankwest. "Snatch up a low rate Bankwest Secured Car Loan and get into your new car, fast"There are several ways of going about this, but typically most cons... 2010-12-22 02:58:00 On last Sunday night?s episode of Top Gear USA, Adam Ferrara, Rutledge Wood and Tanner Foust set out to Detroit in a challenge to choose their favorite old GM cars and put them through a series of challenges to decide which one should be brought back into production. Ferrara choose a 1971 Oldsmobile Cutlass, Foust choose a 1980?s Pontiac Fiero, and Wood choose a 1990s Buick Roadmaster wagon. The episode had most of the same challenges as Top Gear UK?s Season 10, the £1200 British Leyland cheap-car challenge. Yes that would include a hill handbrake challenge (different grade with a bowling ball), filling the car up with water and driving around the racetrack and more. By the end of the challenge, amazingly enough, Rutledge Wood?s 1990?s Buick Roadmaster wagon had won the challenge and below is a 2011 Buick Roadmaster sketch that the hosts would like to see built. However considering I?m a blogger, a car enthusiast and blogging is about giving your opinion, I feel that a 1990?s B... More About: Automobiles , Designing , Shot
Video: Jay Leno picks up his Chevrolet Volt...and yes a Volt is better than
2010-12-22 00:01:00 I saw this video on YouTube of Jay Leno picking up his new Chevrolet Volt in California and I thought that I had to share this with all of my readers and my opinion of the Volt. Personally as I was watching his video, I agree with Jay Leno , electricity is only going to take you halfway, gasoline is going to take you the rest of the way and that's exactly what the Volt does. I particularly like the Chevrolet Volt for the combination of electricity and gasoline, but it needs more improvements such as having the vehicle run in E85 or bio-diesel, now that would be a real green car to me. But of course the fuel of the future in my opinion is hydrogen if the supply is there. But in my opinion, pure electric vehicles aren't the answer to the United States or the worlds oil troubles, however combination vehicles such as the Chevrolet Volt is a good start. As for the Toyota Prius, personally I wouldn't own one. I believe that while Toyota does make several go... More About: Video , Automobiles
Top Gear USA is a hit, but how does the show compare to Top Gear UK?
2010-12-14 22:45:00 Source: Jalopnik.com Just before Thanksgiving and after an already failed attempt by another network (NBC) and some bad predictions, Top Gear USA debuted on the History Channel to mixed reviewed by many. One of the reasons for the mixed reviews was no one really know what to make of the three hosts Adam Ferrara, Rutledge Wood and Tanner Foust. This post is brought to you by Sixt.com. "One place to look for car rentals in France is Sixt.com"Of course for me, while I don?t know Adam Ferrara, but am a fan of Tanner Foust, it was Rutledge Wood that was the question mark and still is as I?m also a NASCAR fan and that?s where Wood?s comes from. Wood use to be on the SPEED Channel and in my opinion that wasn?t a success, but after four episodes, he seems to doing ok right now. However, once the season started rolling out and fans started to get to know the hosts, Top Gear USA has became a hit. The show has received better reviews. I truly believe that the more episodes that the History... More About: Automobiles , Show , Compare

2010-12-14 18:46:00 Earlier today on Twitter, Red Bull Racing (@redbullnascar) unveiled their 2011 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series paint schemes with #83-Brian Vickers and #4-Kasey Kahne. I find it interesting that Red Bull Racing was able to change Kasey Kahne's number from #82 to #4 considering Morgan Mcclure Racing has had the number 4 in the Cup Series for decades now, but at least the number has a good home now. Now I can't wait for February in Daytona, 2011 is already shaping up to be an interesting year especially with all of the crew chief, driver and sponsor moves.. 2010-12-14 02:10:00 Today, I?m finishing off my three-part series that focuses on looking back at both the 2010 NASCAR season and the 2010 Motorsports season. In this edition, I?m putting myself into the shoes of NASCAR for one day and addressing some of the hot topics and problem areas in NASCAR. In 2010, NASCAR had amazing competition on the racetrack and they had a good product too, however that was over shadowed as I would actually describe the 2010 season as a year of frustration and that was primarily due to NASCAR announcing last January ?Boy?s Have at it?. Nevertheless, here are my top 8 bold moves that I would make before the 2011 or at least 2012 NASCAR season to get NASCAR fans back. 1. Repeal ?Boy?s Have at it? and replace with a simple set of rules including conduct. Right now NASCAR seems to want to be more like the NFL and if that?s the case, then they need to have black and white rules like the NFL does too. With the introduction of the ?Boy?s Have at it?, it opened the door for blata... More About: Fans , Nascar , Season , Make
Top 5 Biggest headlines of the 2010 Motorsports season
2010-12-05 02:54:00 Today, I?m continuing my three-part series that focuses on looking back at both the 2010 NASCAR season and the 2010 Motorsports season. In this edition, I?m focusing on the top 5 biggest headlines of the 2010 Motorsports season. I would describe the 2010 Motorsports season as filled with high?s, low?s and what most of us tune in for, good real racing. 1. The 2010 Formula One season was one for the record books from some of the races being entertaining especially the return of the Canadian Grand Prix that Lewis Hamilton won, the always entertaining Monaco grand Prix that was a few weeks early that Mark Webber won, the return of Michael Schumacher to Formula 1 despite some issues for him and of course the terrible Korean GP. That Korean GP track looked good in video games and on paper, but was terrible in person (or on TV for me). But I will remember the 2010 F1 season for the real (not manufactured) tight points battle that went down to wire at the season finale in Abu Dhabi that ... More About: Season

Top 12 Biggest Moments and Stories of the 2010 NASCAR Season
2010-12-01 21:14:00 Today, I?m kicking off my three-part series that focuses on looking back at both the 2010 NASCAR season and the 2010 Motorsports season. In this edition, I?m focusing on highlighting some of the biggest moments and stories from the 2010 NASCAR season. I would describe the 2010 NASCAR season as action-packed, competitive, but because of the ?Boy?s Have at it?, I would say very frustrating at times as well. However I?m focusing on the biggest moments and stories, so here we go: 1. ?Boy?s Have at it? got way out of hand and is a classic example of Letting The Inmates Run the Asylum. In some ways, I will give NASCAR credit that they would let the drivers be more open sort of speak, but NASCAR would end up taking this way too far and NASCAR new policy ended up letting the inmates runs the asylum. A classic example of this new frustrating policy had to be the Edwards vs. Keselowski at the spring Atlanta Cup Series race when Carl Edwards lost it and a lot of fans respect at the same ti... Jimmie Johnson captures his 5th straight NASCAR Sprint Cup Series champions
2010-11-24 22:30:00 Credit: Rusty Jarrett/Getty Images for NASCAR Welcome ladies and gentlemen, sorry for the delay, I was under the weather. But wow, here we are the last edition of the top 7 NASCAR things learned from a particular race weekend of the 2010 NASCAR season and unlike in past years, Homestead finally lived up to most of the hype as it should every year. Of course most of the hype was around the final three chase drivers still fighting for the Sprint Cup, namely points leader Denny Hamlin, second place Jimmie and third place Kevin Harvick. But Homestead was a 400 mile race that includes 43 drivers, not 3 like the Disney?s movie Cars. So I was watching a lot of battles including the highest finishing non-chase and personal victories. 1. A perfect example of NASCAR?s new policy of Letting The Inmates Run the Asylum with ?Boy?s Have at it?. Feud part whatever: Logano vs. Montoya. During the race, Montoya wouldn?t give Logano any room and ended up wrecking him on a restart in front of huge... More About: Series , Nascar , Johnson , Champions
Final Predictions: Who will be the 2010 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Champion:
2010-11-17 23:43:00 As the sun set in Phoenix last Sunday, Carl Edwards and the #99 team found themselves gambling on fuel mileage and it paid off big time as they went to victory lane in the Cup Series for the first time in 2010 and break a two-year winless drought. At the same time, while Jimmie Johnson and Kevin Harvick made their fuel mileage game work for both of them as well to finish 5th and 6th, the championship leader Denny Hamlin found himself pitting for fuel late on, finishing in the 12 spot and frustrated. Personally I thought that everybody was going to have to pit for fuel as well. It didn?t even cross my mind that several drivers could actually make it on fuel to the end. But thank god that they did, because the Phoenix II race was shaping up in a unusually boring race and a large championship lead heading into Homestead. Now of course after the fuel mileage finish at Phoenix, NASCAR, the media and some of the NASCAR fans have gotten there wish, we now have one of the closes chases... Denny Hamlin, Jimmie Johnson and Kevin Harvick separated by only 46 points
2010-11-15 00:31:00 Welcome readers, after this past weekend?s racing at Phoenix International Raceway, the NASCAR Cup Series chase for the Sprint Cup has just one race to go in the 2010 season and now sees a 3-man battle for the championship heading into the season finale next weekend. So what are the top 7 NASCAR things learned from Phoenix II race. 1. Johnson and Harvick gain in points heading into Homestead. As the Kobalt Tools 500 in Phoenix was passing the midway point, Hamlin found himself upfront, but as the checkered flag flow, Denny Hamlin found himself finishing 12th after a late race pit stop, while his championship contenders Jimmie Johnson finished 5th, closes to -15 points behind Hamlin and Kevin Harvick finished 6th and closes to -46 behind leader Hamlin. Well despite having the chase, NASCAR has a tight points battle on their hands as the top 3 in points are separated by only -46 points, that?s interesting and none of the top 3 drivers are favorites to win at Homestead. Inside NASCAR not impressed with Jeff Gordon vs. Jeff Burton fight at Texas
2010-11-11 01:54:00 The media and the NASCAR fans are still buzzing about several key moments during last Sunday's AAA Texas 500 at Texas Motor Speedway from the Kyle Busch penalty, the #48 and #24 pit crew swap that is also in effect for the remainder of the season, but the big one is the so-called fight between Jeff Gordon a nd Jeff Burton had even lite up Twitter for a while during the race and in post-race. Well now even the Inside NASCAR on Showtime bunch has had there say in it and from the video above, they weren't too impressed especially Michael Waltrip. Personally the 1979 Daytona 500 fight on the last lap inside the infield on the final lap was a classic as well as Kevin Harvick vs. Greg Biffle at Bristol with Harvick clearing two cars just to land right in front of Biffle, man was Biffle surprised. Of course for more of my comments on all three of these key moments from last Sunday at Texas, besure to check out my blog post entitled "NASCAR: Jeff Gordon vs. Jeff Burton, Kyle Busch vs.... NASCAR: Denny Hamlin leads chase over Jimmie Johnson and Kevin Harvick head
More articles from this author:2010-11-08 22:38:00 As the 2010 NASCAR racing season is coming down to the end, at this point, we are normally talking about at least one NASCAR championship in one of the three national series that will come down to the final race. However this year we are in fact only really talking about one championship and that would be the chase for the Sprint up in the Cup Series. But did you know that in fact there are three championships still yet to be determined in NASCAR? The Chase for the Sprint Cup Championship is on with 3 drivers in the hunt Head ing into this past weekend?s AAA Texas 500 at Texas Motor Speedway, Jimmie Johnson held a slim 14 point lead over 2nd place Denny Hamlin and a 38 point lead over 3rd place Kevin Harvick. However with just 3 races to go heading into Texas, the fact is that a good top 10 finish just simply isn?t going to be enough if the other points contenders finish in the top 3 or win the race. And that?s exactly what happened at Texas. All three chase contenders each had ... More About: Nascar , Leads 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7 |
