TV Spotlight: American Chopper in 2008
2008-01-03 23:34:00 It’s been months since I have written on one of my favorite shows American Chopper and since then there has been a lot of going on including some new choppers built and some departures. Two choppers that got my attention were the HP Intel Chopper and the Silver State Chopper. The HP Intel Chopper was nothing like I have every seen, a chopper with two engines mounted side-by-side and an on-board computer that controls everything from the electric kickstand to the thumb print needed to start the chopper, even the massive front tire added a interesting and appealing look to it.The Silver State Chopper, an airline piece of artwork and you really can’t miss that air induct on top of the gas tank. The unveil had its moments too, trying to scare Paul Sr. with Mikey flying the helicopter and dropping a fake bike while Paul Jr. takes the real chopper out for delivery. Both pictures are courtesy of Orange County Choppers Website. The final two episodes of last year that focused on the Iowa ... More About: Spotlight , 2008
Happy New Year Everyone… New Year Resolutions!
2008-01-03 22:38:00 3-2-1-Happy New Year 2008, every year, there’s one thing that I do ever New Years Eve that never changes and that’s the way it should be… sitting down in front of the television to watch Dick Clark’s Rockin’ new Years Eve Party and not bad this year. It’s always interesting to see what acts they have on tap and I was surprised to see one of my favorite country singers Carrie Underwood perform, good performance, did anyone notice during Carrie’s performance that there was a Pontiac G8 behind here, nice car, what a way to showcase it.Well, now that its 2008 and every year we all do the same thing, we come up with New Years Resolutions and try to stick to them and believe it or not so did I… first and for most, I have been unemployment for a while now and I really want to work, so that’s what I will be concentrating on this year and I have my resume all set and ready to go.Second, I’ve really been working on my health for a while now, I’ve changed my diet, eating ... It’s about that time - Goodbye 2007 and Happy New Year 2008.
2007-12-31 23:34:00 When it comes to 2007 in Sports and Entertainment, it was a banner year for fans, fans that saw numerous changes, whether it was in the television shows they enjoy or the regrouping of there favorite sports teams, not to mention records in automobiles and a outspoken driver in NASCAR.Looking back here in New England, mainly Massachusetts, sports fans had a great year, records were broken and a championship was won, first came the Boston Red Sox going all the way and winning the 2007 World Series Championship and just this past Saturday night, all of America toned in to see the New England Patriots make history or what we call “Perfection” with going 16-0 in regular season. I watched that game and what a game it was with the Patriots having to take it down to the final minutes for the victory. In NASCAR (considering that’s what I mainly cover here on Racedriven), fans mourned the loss of three of the greats, Benny Parson, Bobby Hamilton and Bill France Jr.In a different way, NAS... How do you enjoy your NASCAR Sprint-Nextel Cup Series races?
2007-12-27 20:51:00 In 2007, NASCAR began experiencing a slight drop in their television coverage ratings for most of there Nextel Cup Series races. The same happened in its attendance at the most events at the racetrack except for New Hampshire which was sold out both times. This has gotten NASCAR attention in a big way and there begins the speculation as to why?Unfortunately, some fans and even the NASCAR Chairmen and CEO Brian France himself started pointing the blame at none other then on NASCARs Most Popular Driver Dale Earnhardt Jr. for first his on-track heart-break which includes 6-7 blown engines and crashes totaling 10 DNFs along with the off-track announcements of him first leaving DEI and then joining Hendrick Motorsports in a five-year deal. For the NASCAR Chairmen and CEO Brian France, he decided to make his most known comment at the Nextel Cup Series Awards Banquet in New York City, his comments (which might have been taken out of context, but we still get the point)…(From autoracingspo... From Racedriven to Anonymous: What will Dale Earnhardt Jr. be driving in NA
2007-12-26 22:27:00 Merry Christmas everyone, boy, what easy Christmas for the most part this year I’ve had, all I had to do was go to a Christmas party on Christmas Eve, thankfully it was a couple miles away from my home this time, instead of in the next state down. Good party, hats of to the host, amazing ham dinner. As for Christmas day (yesterday), it was a peaceful day at home with my father and a simple Ham dinner and me, shopping online using my Best Buy gift cards that I just received. Good days.On this Christmas holiday week while you sit down to dinner with your friends and family, I ask you to ponder this question for a while, what will Dale Earnhardt Jr. be driving next season (2008) for Hendrick Motorsports and for his joint venture between Hendrick Motorsports and Jr Motorsports? Now, why do I bring this up, because early this morning I received a comment which was not-friendly advice that chewed me out for posting misinformation, that comment was by Anonymous , that was left in response ... Survivor: China ends with Todd being named the Sole Survivor.
2007-12-18 02:55:00 Two words best described this season and in most cases, most seasons of Survivor , numbers and strategy, from the season premiere of Survivor China , I picked out Todd as a strong player, not for winning challenges, but for his outwit way of playing the game, he had a way of getting into peoples heads and that got him through the game, plus winning a couple of challenges and I picked James for the outplay part of the game, he was by far the strongest player, he could win challenges and he know when to keep quiet at camp.To me, there were two turning points in this game, first, James getting both of the immunity idols, but doesn’t use them at Tribal Council when it counts, in the game of Survivor, you don’t trust anyone, including your alliance, this is a game for a million dollars, not real life. Just think what would have happened if James had gone with his gut and played the idol, Todd would have been voted out and not been in the final three. The second turning point was also a... NASCAR and Penske miss use championship provisional and owner points.
2007-12-16 00:56:00 Championship provisional and owner’s points in NASCAR’s elite series the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series is a hot topic right now considering that the top 35 in owner’s points are locked in to the each race, which is basically a golden pass to just run a qualifying lap to determine were you start the race and not to see if you make the race or not.Several teams over the years have been using these six championship provisional as a way to get there car in the field by hiring a former Sprint-Nextel-Winston Cup Series champion to drive there car and if that car don’t make it in, then the most recent champion can use the provisional – example: Bill Elliott in the #21 Wood Brother’s Ford subbing for Ken Schrader while the #21 was outside the owner’s points.NASCAR has even seen the owner’s points sold to other teams or given to other teams as the result of a merger – examples: first, Michael Waltrip back at the beginning of 2006 and second, as a result of the DEI-Ginn merger, t... 2007-12-11 01:00:00 It was an interesting 2007 season all over Motorsports for me and on any given week I had plenty to write about and what an elevator of a season its been.Open wheel racing in the United States doesn’t really count for much anymore like it use too, for the IRL, I watched basically the entire season or at least as they say Tivo-ed it to watch when I had the time. They still had there fair share of action including one spectacle in racing, the Indianapolis 500. Even with all of the rain being off and on all day, the race was entertaining at times and seeing Dario Franchitti win it (yes, even on fuel mileage and the race being shortened due to rain), it was cool too.The championship battle all season long was nothing like I expected and with no Penske racing cars in the mix (like I predicted at the beginning of the season), but rather the battle came down to Andretti-Green Racing vs. the challenging Ganassi Racing team. In the end, it was one bad call on the Ganassi Racing side of it ... More About: Eyes , Road , Wheel
Big Brother 9, Survivor 16 and Jericho premiere in February 2008.
2007-12-04 23:00:00 Yesterday, CBS sent out a press release of the CBS Winter Schedule lineup and among the winter lineup is the first ever winter edition of Big Brother (9), a new season of Survivor (16) and Jericho .What a lineup, it's been rumored for the last couple of months that with the writer's strike is going on, CBS might create the first ever winter edition of Big Brother. Keep in mind, CBS can do this because one, CBS holds casting calls all year long and two, they own the house. With that, its been rumored as a three week or so celebrity version with limited feed, hopefully (Big Brother 9) this is a full three month season with a full cast of new charactors and not only the full online feed, but a three+ hour a night of feed on Showtime 2.I was surprised to Survivor 16 on this list considering Suvivor China has not even had there finale yet. I've been watching Survivor China and it's good. It has been rumored that Survivor 16 with take place on the island of Palau for the second time in... More About: Premiere
What were the biggest surprises, disappointments and thrillers in NASCAR of
2007-11-28 22:28:00 The biggest surprises came in all three series, first with the Truck Series Championship battle, this one was close just about all season long, no one driver ran away with it and amazing enough the championship came down to the final race, 29 points going in and one mistake (with a part), that’s a real championship battle. Congratulations to Ron Hornaday Jr and Kevin Harvick Inc., what a season.Of course, in Nextel Cup, one NASCAR writer wrote “The championship belongs to Jimmie Johnson, but the season belongs to Dale Earnhardt Jr.” and that sentence is right on, on big surprise was Dale Earnhardt Jr’s announcements, first leave DEI and then join Hendrick Motorsports (and I might add leaving without the #8 and Budweiser), that’s going to be a good combination and with that Hendrick Motorsports creating the most powerful racing teams with Johnson, Gordon, Mears and now Earnhardt Jr… all winnersThe Busch series seeing two championships, let’s be honest here, by the halfw... What were the biggest stories in racing of 2007?
2007-11-22 20:22:00 Happy Thanksgiving everyone, boy do we have alot to be thankful for on this day, how about being thankful for a good racing all season long. On this Thanksgiving while you give thanks for all of this good things in your life and sit down to dinner with your friends and family, I ask you to ponder this question for a while, what was the biggest stories in racing of 2007 and what what was the biggest?I have been pondering that very question for the last couple of weeks as it was the WindTunnel question of the week, so here's what my take...When you look at last season in the world of Motorsports, you had a lot to consider for this award and the same goes true for this season. While Formula 1 had a lot to be thankful after last season (2006) including one good championship battle and the idea of moving on to 2007 despite the announcement of there 7-time champion Michael Schumacher would be retiring, they can’t say the same for the 2007 season as it’s on-track boring racing was ove... 2007-11-17 21:50:00 In my piece last week entitled “Bruton Smith – SMI: The tale of New Hampshire International Speedway and North Wilkesboro Speedway.”, I started to touch on this very topic of just what should Bruton smith and SMI do with the newly purchased historic North Wilkesboro Speedway land? Newly purchased Brian? With the purchase of the New Hampshire International Speedway now renamed New Hampshire Motor Speedway for 340 Million dollars, in that transaction, SMI also purchased Bahre’s 50% of North Wilkesboro Speedway and now that he owns the entire lot lock stock and barrel, what should he do with it?By now, NASCAR fans have read about Smith – SMI’s problems with Concord, NC about Smith wanting to build a drag strip on the site of his Lowe’s Motor Speedway in Concord and the city originally said “NO”. Of course right after that, Smith said he might consider moving the Lowe’s Motor Speedway from Concord to Charlotte just 20 miles or so miles away. Keep in mind that Lowe’... More About: Moving

Bruton Smith – SMI: The tale of New Hampshire International Speedway and
2007-11-11 04:01:00 By now, most NASCAR racing fans have heard that Bruton Smith – SMI has purchased (my home racetrack since I live in Massachusetts) the New Hampshire International Speedway and the other 50% of North Wilkesboro in North Carolina from the Bahre family for 340 million in cash. What a purchase, he buys two Nextel (Sprint) Cup dates at NHIS, NHIS was the only soldout race in the chase so far, the historic North Wilkesboro Speedway and lots of land, So the question is, what is SMI’s plans for not only the newly renamed New Hampshire Motor Speeday, the historical North Wilkesboro, but his Lowe’s Motor Speedway in Concord, NC.Before I get into what this NASCAR racing fan what like to see change at NHMS, two things, first, Yes, I do know how New Hampshire received there seconddate? I know that the Bahre family and Smith each purchased half of North Wilkesboro Speedway and then closed it, moving one Cup date to Texas Motor Speedway and the other one went to New Hampshire International S...

The Boston Red Sox Celebrates World Series Victory with rolling rally.
2007-10-30 18:30:00 David Ortiz celebrating yesterday with the fans at Fenway Park - (AP Photo / Steven Senne)First I would like to congratulate the Boston Red Sox in winning the 2007 World Series late last Sunday night and they did it in just four games against the Colorado Rookies. This is the second World Series championship in three years (last one in 2004). Great Job, what a perfect season.Right now as I type this from my living room, I am watching the Rolling Rally live on Television and believe me there is no short of coverage in Massachusetts, boy I sure wish I could have been there today since I have never experienced a rolling rally before. What a sight to see, several Boston Duck Boats (And yes they do float and in 2004 they did going to the Charles River with the Red Sox players on board…) with all of the players, owners and family members on board along with that World Series trophy, the duck boats started at noon time at Fenway Park and from there they would be traveling very slowly and... Is the Formula 1 World Championship really decided? More
2007-10-30 12:26:00 Last August, I wrote a piece about Formula 1 and what my take was on the current status of the series and I ended the piece by saying “Bottom Line, good bye Formula 1 , you don’t want to support the United States and or at least Canada, than I don’t want to support your series.” and it was called “Is Formula 1 in trouble in the eyes of its US and Canadian fans?”With that said, this race fan couldn’t resist watching one more race namely being the Formula 1 realty show season finale in Brazil in hopes of seeing the crowning of a World Champ ion that was to be decided on track at the finish line, but as we all know by now, that wasn’t to be as after the race, the officials discovered that three teams had violated the fuel tempeture rule by 13-14 degrees with a allowance of only ten degrees and as per the rule book, they should have been disqualified… but the officials decided not to disqualify the three teams in effect effecting the World Championship outcome giving the...
Survival was the key to victory in the Memphis and Atlanta races.
2007-10-30 00:32:00 What an interesting mixture of races fans had this past weekend in both Memphis and Atlanta .Memphis, Memphis, Memphis Busch race, how do you put it into words to even come close in describing this 4 hour race… one word, nightmare. This Memphis race prompted one question that should be asked to all race fans and it so happened to be last night’s WindTunnel question of week - What is your NASCAR caution flag threshold? Do you make it to the end, and if not, when do you change the channel? The answer ironically depends on the racing series, I can stand more caution flags in a Cup Series event rather than either a Truck race or a Busch Series and even more depending upon which racetrack they are at. However while last Sunday’s Cup race at Martinsville nor yesterday’s race at Atlanta didn’t come close to my threshold, the Memphis race did (no exact number), 25 cautions is too much for this race fan to sit though period. Halfway though of 8 laps of racing followed by caution afte... More About: Victory , Survival , Races
The four-man chase for the Nextel Cup continues straight into Atlanta.
2007-10-25 01:15:00 When looking back over the past six races namely the previous six chase races, they have all been interesting in one way or another. Starting off in New Hampshire which I watched from live in person in the pit area and on top of the #29 Shell pitbox was not what it was in past seasons, but in the same respect it showed that one team is a chase contender being Clint Bowyer, who dominated the field throughout the day and picked up his first career victory. However, Dover was completely different and ironicly has been the theme for the chase races so far with the exception of New Hampshire, Dover was a game of survival with Carl Edwards being victorious and with that victory also fined and docked 25 points for right rear being too low which was the right call by NASCAR. Moving forward straight into the rain and darkness of Kansas where drivers, teams, owners, officials and fans found themselves experiencing a nightmare of red flags, rain, delays and one controversial finish were this ra... 2007-10-11 22:34:00 First up is Nextel Cup : Is it a two-man race for the Nextel Cup going into Charlotte? This question was asked a couple of nights ago on NASCAR Now and I really think it deserves a classic answer, simply put NO way, its not just a two-man race (being last weekends Talladega winner Jeff Gordon leading by 9 points of his Hendrick teammate Jimmie Johnson.). There is still six races left in the chase, I will say that both Jeff Gordon and Jimmie Johnson are had chargers right now and seem to be unbeatable at times, but I wouldn’t count out any driver in the top 6.At this time last season, Jimmie Johnson was a full race out of the lead by -156 points behind Jeff Burton going into Charlotte and we all know he won the championship by 56 points over second place Matt Kenseth. So really any driver that’s around 210 points back, still has a good shot at victory. Really all one of these drivers really need is six races of top 5’s and top 10 finishes. Don’t forget, one blown motor and ano... More About: Championship , Series , Fight , Busch Series

2007-10-07 01:15:00 Open Wheel drivers heading to stock car racing in both ARCA and NASCAR…We’ve seen it for decades in stock car racing, open wheel drivers making the jump from open wheel racing to Stock cars racing, however in the past year or so, there once again has been a sudden surge of successful open wheel drivers trying there hand in a new challenge and making there debuts in stock car racing. The current trend has been open wheel drivers who have really never turned a lap in a stock car turning to first the ARCA racing series, running a couple of races and in a short period of time jumping in and out of the Truck and Busch Series right into the Cup Series and what a jump it has created. The first of the big announcements came at the later part of last season at Chicagoland where Chip Ganassi Racing announced the signing of the Formula 1-Indianapolis 500 winner Juan Montoya and that he would pilot the #42 Dodge in the Cup Series earlier this season (2007) after first making an ARCA race at T... From Daytona to Homestead: The NASCAR schedule and landscape continues to c
2007-10-03 00:20:00 One of the most talked about issues in NASCAR is what tracks should be added, what tracks should stay and what tracks should be deleted from the schedules in quest to be in every big market. I wasn’t shocked at all with the 2008 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series schedule that got released last week because there really wasn’t any big changes except from moving a weekend off or two around to give there drivers, teams and fans better alignment. One interesting touch from last year is the move of New Hampshire from mid-July to late June with good from me since I visit NHIS twice a year.Personally I really don’t know what you can do to make the Cup Series schedule good for everyone, but consider one thing, back in the day, the schedule use to have over 70 races per year and now where down to 36 races a year, that’s change. However the opposite can be said for the Busch series and Truck series schedule as they dramatically need to change because in some ways, the Busch Series schedule is w... More articles from this author:2007-09-24 20:48:00 With two rounds in the Chase for the Nextel Cup Championship complete, I would have thought by this point (after two races…) the chase picture would have looked more spread out considering what happened last season at first race with the lap 3 wreck and most contenders falling or crashing out early, but that wasn’t the case at all and no one expected to see Clint Bowyer pickup his first career victory and in such dominating fashion. When you looked at the other chasers after New Hampshire , just about everyone had really good runs and nothing really changed expect for Bowyers position moved up to fourth in the points. However the opposite happened in Dover, I truly believe that that racetrack is the Monster Mile, it threw everything at the chase drivers including what some would say the kitchen sink, first the crash with Hamlin and Petty were Hamlin just looked like he ran over Petty and including the little fight sort of speck in the garage area, but the second thing, the huge cr...
