As I said goodbye to 2008 and welcomed in 2009, I remember about 4 years ago, I was introduced to the world of blogging/writing though some online friends, blogging in my eyes is a good way to express yourself, in a since, its voicing your opinion, but in a soft tone and yet can still being heard or read by many. So on March 12, 2005, I started this blog RaceDriven.com. were over the years, I have learned and developed my writing skills, working with CSS/HTML coding on blogger to develop a better design and layout, and developed relationships with several bloggers and companies which in some cases, included handling all direct advertising (ex: text links, graphics and etc.).So with that said, since Dec. 20, 2008, I have been hard at work, building my next project site and after 10 days or so, here today at 12:01am on New Year’s Day 2009, I am officially announcing the launching of my new site, Brian Vermette dot com, a Blog, Photography and Portfolio, where I will voice my opinion...

2009-01-01 05:43:00
For the second year in a row, WindTunnel asked the question leading into the chase for the sprint cup, what will the final 2008 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series points standings be? So back in September, I put pen to paper or typed out on my word processor “My Take” and predicted just what the final 2008 Cup Series Standings would be, was I corrected or not and no when I wrong, I am not afraid to admit it.The first column is my predictions and the second are the official top 12 chase standings:1. Jimmie Johnson – Correct Pick: Jimmie Johnson three-peats, winning the 2008 NASCAR Sprint cup Series Championship.2. Carl Edwards – Correct Pick.3. Kyle Busch – Incorrect Pick, Kyle Busch’s season fell apart in the chase, finishing 10th.4. Dale Earnhardt Jr. – Nope, Dale Jr. had a good first season with Hendrick Motorsports, but finished 12th.5. Kevin Harvick – Incorrect Pick, Harvick rebounded with race finishes to finish 4th6. Jeff Gordon – Incorrect Pick, no victories in 2008 a...

A Classic Christmas in 2008 – Life is Good.
2009-01-01 03:57:00
Christmas to me is about loving friends and family, spending time with the people closed to you. I normally get into the holiday season by listening to Christmas music, buying gifts (which for me as an adult is normally gift cards at a retail store like Walmart that is 5 minutes away or even better at an online store like Amazon that go with the person, unless I know what someone wants like my father who I purchased DVD’s for) and watching Christmas specials on television. I am still kid at heart when it comes to Christmas which includes watching the 12 days ‘til Christmas with How the Grinch stole Christmas, The Santa Clause and more.I remember when I was young, what Christmas was like, you know before I was 12 years old, Christmas as a kid is a lot of fun, from spending Christmas Eve over at my grandparent’s house or a relative’s house, opening one gift, having a nice dinner and then going home, and get into bed, sleep tight, see you in the morning. Who does America want to be in The Biggest Loser 6 finale - Ed or Heba.
2008-12-10 04:06:00
I've been watching the Biggest Loser not only all season long, but for years now and for the most part, its an interesting show to watch. Originally, this show has been more about weight loss than game play with some expections of course including one person gainning 17 pounds, however in the last couple of seasons, game play has taken over. One thing I hate to hear in a reality show whether its Survivor, Big Brother, the Beauty and the Geek or The Biggest Loser just to name a few is that one contestent is safe, so they don't have to worry about anything and that is terrible to hear. For this season, you have the blue team that has played alot of game play and everyone else in the house has just gone along with it, since day one, these three (Heba, Ed and vicky along with Vicky's husband before her blue teammate voted him out) have been together from the beginning and pretty much safe, well at least they lost weight, of course that you can't take away from them.So it's always int...

As I sit here reading some of the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Championship week news coming out of New York that all leads up to the banquet on Friday night live on ESPN Classic, yeah who thought that up anyway, first putting it in New York and second televising it on ESPN Classic, does everyone have ESPN Classic, I bet, NO.Anyway, over the past couple of weeks, I have been thinking over what in my opinion was a good 2008 Cup Series season despite a spit verdict with this new Car of Tomorrow at all racetracks, a unique and at times, safe and yet, a complete nightmare of a car, yeah that works right…. however in most ways, what a good season it was. I would sum up the 2008 season highlights with something for just about everyone. How about one unique car and a good race, the Daytona 500 to start with? In some ways the COT does play host to some good racing after all and one race this season that was good was the Daytona 500, what a great way to start off the season, a race that always ...

2008-11-29 23:47:00
Normally it isn’t my cup of tea to write in this way, however right now in the United States including here in Massachusetts , the big story all over the US continues to be the economy and how it impacts each state. One huge issue is the Auto bailout, should the government bailout the Big Three or not?And if that wasn’t enough in this shaky economy, Massachusetts is now looking at a deficit in state money and they are trying to find new ways to increase revenue as well and one bad idea is increase the gas tax, should they?Well these are hot topics in my eyes, however right now I am still torn on the Big Three, on one hand, we need the big three for jobs and if they go out of business which is highly unlikely, lots of jobs and cars will be lost, so a government bailout might be needed, on the other hand, is any amount of money, $25 billion dollars for example going to really help at all, yeah maybe 25 days... Now I will say that GM needs to delete brands and rework there company, ...

As I sit here in my bedroom watching the Titans vs. the Lions, yeah what a game, keep in mind that going into today, the Titans were 10-1, while the Lions were 0-11, yeah that’s a good match up, but hay what are you going to do, its Thanksgiving and I am watching Football , sounds good to me, by the way, the score is 36-10 Titans at halftime. Personally I am a New England Patriots fan, when it comes to football for me, I will watch a game if I can and it really doesn’t matter the teams, although a Patriots game would be my first choose.Anyway, first I would like to wish everybody a Happy Thanksgiving and a special Happy Thanksgiving to all of our troops. Today is a day to relax and give thanks, and on this day which started with getting up a 9am-10am to watch the Macy’s day parade on television, this year it was on CBS, because I wanted to watch Sugarland perform, I only got the chance to watch and listen to one song, but I like the song “Settlin’”, what a voice Jennifer ...

Johnny Benson and Clint Bowyer each win first NASCAR national championship
2008-11-20 22:42:00
As all three NASCAR national series seasons have come to a close at the triple header finale at Homestead-Miami Speedway last weekend, one question in particular comes to mind, does NASCAR really need to add a new unique chase format to either or both the Nationwide Series and the Truck Series? Before I get into each series and how it ended, in my opinion, the chase format in the Cup Series was started for two reasons, first as a result of Matt Kenseth in 2003 winning the championship with basically one victory that season and a runaway points standings. Second was in light of the new sponsor Nextel, of course now Sprint. Personally, I believe that the chase format should only be unique to the NASCAR Cup Series, because that the elite series and they should have a different way of determining their champion then the rest of the NASCAR national series. With that said, the Nationwide Series points battle in past seasons has been nothing to really write about in terms of going down to th...

2008-11-14 22:30:00
As NASCAR gears up for their season finale, the NASCAR championship weekend in Homestead, FL, that includes the crowning of all three National Series Championships which for the most part are all up for grabs, there seems to be a theme growing throughout the garage area, entitled ever-changing economy and what NASCAR and teams/organizations are going to do to survive to race in 2009.With that said, a domino fell, as on Wednesday, Dale Earnhardt Inc and Chip Ganassi Racing with Felix Sabates announced in a statement:Two of motorsports’ biggest names – Earnhardt and Ganassi – will launch a four-car team beginning in 2009 through the combination of the motorsports operations of Dale Earnhardt, Inc. (DEI) and Chip Ganassi Racing with Felix Sabates, Inc. (CGRFS). NASCAR stars Martin Truex Jr. and Juan Pablo Montoya will drive the Nos. 1 and 42 respectively and future star Aric Almirola will be behind the wheel of the No. 8. The driver of the No. 41 will be named in the near future....

No excuse for ABC to switch from NASCAR in Phoenix to America’s Funniest
2008-11-13 04:10:00
On Monday, ESPN explained the decision to switch the remainder of the live telecast of the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race in Phoenix in the Eastern and Central time zones of the US at 7:30pm from ABC to ESPN2 for other programming:"After two red flags, rain in Phoenix and 4 1/2 hours on ABC, we were still 34 minutes from the end of the telecast as it turned out. We told fans in the East and Central from the second red flag on that the race was moving to ESPN2. ABC's entertainment viewers and NASCAR fans were both well served in a tough spot, and we are fortunate to have ESPN2 among our networks to serve the fans." - ESPNWhat a statement made by ESPN after last Sunday night’s Cup Series race in Phoenix, so now, instead of the big story of the night being a good race and the chase for the championship, it’s now going to be why would ESPN switch from the live Cup Series race to America’s Funniest Home Videos that headlined kicking it in the crib, garage door dove and doggy go rou...

2008-11-11 03:40:00
As NASCAR gets ready to end their 2008 season at Homestead-Miami Speedway in a triple-header championship weekend for both the Nationwide Series and the Truck Series that currently both have a tight battles going on, in the Nationwide Series, Clint Bowyer is the point’s leader over second place Carl Edwards by just 56 points, I’m picking the points leader Clint Bowyer to win even though Edwards has been on fire as of late. However the tightest point’s battle is in the Truck Series with Johnny Benson leading by just 3 points, no that’s not a typo, that’s really 3 points after both drivers wrecked at Phoenix over second place Ron Hornaday Jr.. What a way to go, this could come down to bonus points and who wins the race even. I’m picking 3-time Truck Series Champion Ron Hornaday Jr to win the championship, he has done this before as he goes for two in a row. With that said, right now, just about everyone is talking about the shaky economy and more important, how to make the N...

What about merging the NASCAR Nationwide Series and the NASCAR Truck Series
2008-11-05 23:29:00
Even with the good addition of Camping World coming on-board as the title sponsor in the truck series for the next seven-years beginning in 2009 replacing the longtime series sponsor Craftsman, which had been the sole title sponsor since the inception of the NASCAR Truck Series in 1995, and the fact that the truck series has some of the best races all season long, is short, action packed and to the point, there is some huge problems in keeping the series as is right now.You have the manufacturers, Dodge is pulling back support and so is Ford, I don’t know to what how much, but its big do to the economy, not to mention that truck sales are so far down right now. Another point is smaller fields at a lot of races in 2008 and then there’s sponsors, case in point there, even the points leader #23-Johnny Benson hasn’t had sponsorship in a couple of races this season and he’s winning and on television regularly, so…Now look at the Nationwide Series, there are having the same prob...

Qualifying in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series makes all the difference.
2008-11-01 22:51:00
As I sit here watching final practice (or for some, Happy Hour which is normally not happy nor an hour long) for the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series which is in final preparation for tomorrow’s 500 mile race at Texas Motor Speedway, one discussion not only in the media, but with NASCAR fans that has been widely talked about is NASCAR’s current qualifying policy.Over the past several years, NASCAR has tweaked there Cup Series qualifying policy a few times including recently breaking up the qualifying into two sessions, first the top 35 cars will qualify and then second, the go or go home drivers (the drivers that must qualify on speed due to the fact that they are not in the top 35 in points) which gives the must qualify on speed drivers all a fighting chance in the same weather and track conditions to make the 43 car starting field for the big race. The current policy is working pretty well, of course I don’t care much for watching single car qualifying, but at least it’s fair for a...

2008-10-27 01:19:00
In a simple word, column, this weekend I decided to write a simple column on this past weekend this time around, let me know what you think, I believe it really gives my readers a better look at everything though my eyes and that’s what writing is all about...Saying what a weekend seems to be an understand in this day in age depending upon who you are, it seems that on any given weekend you can do, see or watch just about anything and this weekend was not difference. However before the weekend, what headline did I read on Wednesday afternoon from NASCAR PR but Vickers and the #83 Red Bull Team got caught shaving weight? Why doesn’t this surprise me, with the current Cup Series COT and no gray area to work with, NASCAR may be finding more and more teams trying to find that edge to make their cars just a little bit faster, even by a faction of a second, however isn’t there a safety issue with using downgraded sheet metal in the doors and fenders? This is one area of NASCAR and bui...

2008-10-26 05:52:00
Yeah, you read it correct, the season is over, Scott Dixon and his #9 Ganassi Racing team has won the 2008 IRL IndyCar Series Championship and yet there is one more race to go. I was a little surprised with this one being added to the schedule like this and yet maybe not. I have never really been one who enjoys watching indycars race on the Streets of Surfers Paradise, however then again with so many teams and no points on the line, this could be a fun race, can you say no points racing, all out, new teammates, this could be go after all. It’s always a good sign to see just how many teams would fly over 30 hours to Australia for a non-points event, but what a turn out, the entry list is a who’s who in indycar racing from Dan Wheldon back racing for Panther Racing, Dario Franchitti in Wheldon’s old ride at Ganassi racing, Buddy rice in at Dreyer & Reinbold Racing and from the former Champ car World Series and CART, Bruno Junqueira and Alex Tagliani, however no Paul Tracy, th...

It’s been months since I have watched a car auction on television and that would have been back in mid-January watching the Barrett-Jackson from Scottsdale. In watching that auction, I had always wondered why Barrett-Jackson would host there most promising auction in Scottsdale, when Las Vegas is only a little over 200 miles away and you can have most of it in doors in a casino. With that said, my answer somewhat was answered this past weekend with the famous Barrett-Jackson car auction in the city that never sleeps, Las Vegas, what an interesting combination. I really didn’t know exactly what to expect for rides nor hammer prices. There were five cars going across the auction block on Saturday night that really got my attention, first up was the 2006 Ford Mustang Custom “FunkMasterFlex”, it was being auctioned off by Ford with the check being written to charity. I’ve always had a place in my heart for Ford Mustangs, it’s a car that gets my attention just about every time ...

2008-10-18 08:45:00
Last Sunday’s Toledo 200, the finale for the 2008 ARCA RE/MAX Series seemed to have left many racing fans scratching their heads and saying what happened and it is no different for this racing fan, even a week later, I am still trying to figure this one out. This race was all about the four drivers going for the 2008 ARCA RE/MAX Series Championship, first the former F1 driver turned stock car racer and Dover winner in the Truck Series earlier this season and the points leader Scott Speed , followed closely by #99 Ricky Stenhouse Jr., the 9-time ARCA Series champion Frank Kimmel who has been the only champion in this decade, he won the championship in 1998 and then won the in 2000 through 2007 championships and Justin Allgaier who was 110 points put of the leader.Shocked during the early laps is an understatement, what were Scott Speed and Ricky Stenhouse Jr. thinking??? First Stenhouse Jr., in the early laps, I’m sitting their watch this race unfold on television and from the drop...

5 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series chase races down, 5 chase races to go.
2008-10-12 19:39:00
I’ve been pretty shocked by the turn of events in the first five chase races, not with Carl Edwards vs. Jimmie Johnson, I mean Edwards has been running good all season long and Johnson normally seems to come on, making statement after statement at this time of the year, he’s a lot like his teammate and owner Jeff Gordon, when the money is on the line, he steps up and goes for it, no, I have been surprised with Greg Biffle and Kyle Busch. When I created my list of what the top 12 might look like in my eyes after Homestead, I choose to put Kyle Busch in the third spot in the chase and Greg Biffle in the 11th, so imagine my surprise when I see Greg Biffle win the first two chase races, finished in the top 5 at Kansas and etc., while Kyle Busch is holding down at the bottom of the list, it’s a complete opposite from what I predicted, 3rd, 11th and yet, a welcome treat to watch. When I look back at the first two chase races in New Hampshire and Dover, those two races not only added s...

How we got rid of our junk car.
2008-10-12 01:52:00
This subject seems to have a new meaning to me, earlier this year, we had to make a tough decision of what to do with our 1995 Nissan Altima after a few estimates came in on how much it would cost to fix the car, with over 130,000 miles on it, some interesting rust underneath, sitting for a while in the driveway, a repair bill that just started at $1500-$2000, not covering damage to the undercarrage with rust and a lack of use, we made the decision to junk the car and save for another used car that has less miles and works. So if you find yourself in this position, you have several options available to you, however there are really only two that we had to look at, first donate the car to charity, this option carries a small tax deduction and free pickup or second, take the car to a junk car for recycling, meaning getting little cash for the vehicle, but that is big with the every rising cost of gasoline, fuel and all of those bills. So we decided to go with the junkyard option, that...

Did NASCAR get the call at the end of the Talladega Cup Series race right?
2008-10-09 03:46:00
There are 36 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series races a year not counting the Budweiser Shootout and the Sprint Showdown, each with its own twist from the short-tracks of Martinsville and Bristol, to the intermediate tracks of Charlotte and Atlanta, however four times a year, NASCAR visits two racetracks that are complete wild cards and while Daytona has some control, at Talladega Superspeedway, it’s a complete wild card that is so unpredictable, yet so heart-stopping for everyone and yet at the same time, I don’t like, however even more when you facter in the chase, it becomes an all out, get what you can get race that sometimes equals a wreckfest. And at this past Sunday’s Amp Energy 500, guess what, the race ended in controversy, well, that’s NASCAR, so now the question that everyone will be asking even though this weekend’s Charlotte 500 miler, Did NASCAR get the call at the end of the race right?I’ve read several articles written by both the media and fans and the reaction see...

Jimmie Johnson, Carl Edwards and NASCAR make headlines at Kansas Speedway.

Heading into Kansas Speedway , the track had already made noise by announcing that they are going to ask for a second cup date after they just got approved for a hotel and casino, would they get it?Looking at the race itself, a race that was once a boring thing to watch, not any more, in NASCAR, it is said that with all new tracks or new surfaces, it will get better with age, Richmond did, Bristol shore did and guess what, Kansas did as well, interesting third chase race, it was better than Texas earlier this year, however that’s not saying much, but amazingly enough, there was two, three-groves including running up to wall to work with which does make the race better for passing, passing the key to good race at any racetrack, if drivers can’t pass a car, you have a parade, or Formula 1 for the most part. However nothing would have prepared me for the final 5 laps of this one, a race that shaped up to have a classic duel between Carl Edwards and the leader Jimmie Johnson , I watche...
