Are NASCAR victories tainted if the race is called early? I.e. Reutimann’
2009-06-01 22:12:00
I guess I am a little bit late to the party, but you know I had to make my grand entrance in the only way I know how, anyway, over the past week, the talk in NASCAR has centered around the latest first time winner David Reutimann and how he won this first NASCAR Sprint Cup Series career victory last Monday at the Coca-Cola 600.Now last weekend was one of the biggest Motorsports weekends all season long and just so happen to be the longest with the Monaco Grand Prix, the Indianapolis 500 and the Coca-Cola 600 all on the same day, however while the Monaco Grand Prix and the Indy 500 did go off as scheduled, but weren’t the races that should have shined, the Coca-Cola 600 had to be postponed until Monday.I had been looking forward to the Coke 600 as season long and unfortunately it just didn’t go off as anyone expected. Monday was really no better with the one and off rain showers that plagued the race from going full out all day long. After a good NASCAR All-Star race with this ne...

The US Postal Service should cut Saturday mail delivery instead of raising
2009-05-25 08:59:00
Let me state the obvious, I am not an expert on politics nor want to write on them, however when it comes to certain subjects within politics that effect your everyday life like mine, sometimes something just have to be said, so welcome to “My Take” on off-topics.One of the most talked about subjects in the United States right now is the economy and here in the United States, it has hit us hard. The economy has brought everyone right down to reality, home prices are down, gasoline prices are once again raising, food prices are going up and the overall cost of living is going up while more and more people including me are unemployed. Even now, companies like banks and other business are raising fees to cover budget gaps.So it should be no surprise that even the United States Postal Service is once again raising fees, however I am not the only one that has a few suggestions for the Post Office and what they should do. While surfing the internet, I came across a site called Thatsth...

2009-05-25 08:15:00
Welcome back ladies and gentleman, as I sit here writing, its Monday early morning, its Memorial Day and yesterday was one of the biggest Motorsports days and the longest with the Monaco Grand Prix, the Indianapolis 500 and the Coca-Cola 600.However, it was the day that while I had looked forward too for months now, it wasn’t what I expected, as a matter a fact, it was a little disappointing, between not feeling well, a rained out Coca-Cola 600 at Lowe’s Motor Speedway for the NASCAR Cup Series that was postponed until later today (no fault of NASCAR), a sleeper Monaco Grand Prix and an ok Indianapolis 500, I didn’t feel it.I think all racing fans have heard the slogan “races can’t be won on the first lap, but sure can lost on the first lap”, well that slogan does hold true in most cases, however that one can be up for some debut when it comes to what I watched early this morning, namely the Monaco Grand Prix.Let me state the obvious, even though I am not a huge Formula ...

NASCAR: Should we expect that this record penalty against Carl Long will be
2009-05-24 01:17:00
NASCAR has hands down a record penalty to driver Carl Long , the owner and crew chief of the #46 in the NASCAR Cup Series that in my eyes was warranted, but too extreme.First let me say that on the other issue in NASCAR right now, I am not going to comment on the Jeremy Mayfield vs. NASCAR issue which will most likely turn into a lawsuit, I don’t comment on lawsuits. Second, as for NASCAR’s substance abuse policy, as a fan of this sport, I believe NASCAR needs to come clean, be straight and crystal clear with everybody on what NASCAR is looking for (banned substance list), the process, everything, transparent if you will. With that said, so far in 2009, most teams have gotten the message that when it comes to the NASCAR COT racecar, it is a black and white issue, you are either green for good to go or red for infraction, if you found to have a car infraction, you should expect penalties (fines, docked points and/or suspensions) either now or next week.Over the past couple of years...

What are the top 5 biggest races in Motorsports? The Indy 500, Monaco Grand
2009-05-19 23:21:00
It’s a beautiful Tuesday evening, 70 degrees outside and sunny up here in Massachusetts and yet I am already thinking about the weekend, but not just any weekend, Memorial Day Weekend. Memorial Day Weekend is the biggest weekend in motorsports especially for me, on Sunday, two of the biggest race in motorsports will get the green flag, the Monaco Grand Prix and the Indianapolis 500 and history shows that both races should be exciting. This weekend also marks NASCAR’s second biggest and longest race of the season and ironically enough it is on Sunday as well, the Coca-Cola 600. Think about for a moment, I know I have, every year Motorsports fans sit down to watch one, two or even three (counting the NASCAR race) including me of these races in one day, damn that’s cool.Since this is the biggest Motorsports weekend, I figure that this is the perfect time to ask, what are the top 5 biggest races in Motorsports? I have been thinking about this question for a little while now and whi...

2009-05-18 02:48:00
Let me state the obvious, the Indianapolis 500 in my eyes is not only one of the biggest races all season long in Motorsports, but the biggest. When it comes to the month of May, I always look forward to seeing who will be in the Indianapolis 500 and of course watching a damn good race. Of course, on that same Sunday, I am watching the Monaco Grand Prix in the earlier morning hours and after the 500, its NASCAR turn for the Coca-Cola 600.But this time it’s the “Month of May” at Indianapolis Motor Speedway and its one week before the 500, so that means to race, you must first qualify and since this is not NASCAR with its top 35 being locked in, any driver whether you are a past IRL champion, Indy 500 winner or race winner, you must qualify your way in to the Indy 500 field on speed. For the 2009 Indianapolis 500, there is four days of qualifying, first last Saturday or what is commonly referred to as “Pole Day”. Pole Day sets only the first 11 spots on the grid and showcases...

The history continues in the 25th NASCAR All-Star race as Tony Stewart wins
2009-05-17 05:40:00
Armed with soda, chips, chicken breasts, BBQ sauce, snacks and a one seat, it’s a night to sit back, relax, leave the remote alone and just watch a sprint race on television, yes I am talking about the only night that there is no points on the line (not counting the Shootout at Daytona) the NASCAR All-Star race at Lowe’s Motor Speedway. While I can do without the Shootout at Daytona, in my eyes, the All-Star race is a must have. This is a night that there are no points on the line, no points racing, it’s an all out sprint race and the winner, the one who survivors wins a $1 Million Dollars. What I really can’t believe is that this is the 25th NASCAR All-Star race, the first thought is NASCAR actually kept this race all this time, of course time changes most events in life, and the All-Star race is no different. In 1985, the All-Star race had a simple format, around 10 cars started, 70 laps that included a mandatory pit stop and winner takes all.I watched the highlights of the ...

2009-05-15 00:56:00
The two headlines of the Southern 500: Joey Logano (a rookie) not only leading the Southern 500, but finished 9th and Mark Martin on not only picking up his second Cup Series victory of 2009, but signing with Hendrick Motorsports to drive the #5 full-time in 2010 as well. (Photo Credit: John Harrelson/Getty Images)As I sit here one week later, the Southern 500 at the historical Darlington Raceway is still fresh in my mind, but I would like to talk about the name "the Southern 500" itself. To me, the name, the Southern 500 had always ranked in the top 5 best races of the NASCAR season alongside the famous Daytona 500, the Coca-Cola 600, the Brickyard 400 and the Firecracker 400 (Pepsi 400 – Coke Zero 400, whichever you prefer), of course now that list has changed over the years and should include the Sharpie 500 at Bristol. However a few years ago when NASCAR took the Labor Day Weekend date away from Darlington Raceway and gave it to one of the worse racetracks on the schedule, Cali...

Runner-up Tony Stewart and third-place finisher Jeff Burton race for position in the closing laps of the CROWN ROYAL presents The Russ Friedman 400 at Richmond International Raceway. (Photo Credit: Drew Hallowell/Getty Images)As I sit here watching the NASCAR Nationwide Series racing on a green racetrack at Darlington, I want to put a cap on last Saturday Night’s Crown Royal 400 at Richmond International Raceway. After every race, I like to ask myself a question, what made the race exciting and more so, what was the biggest story of race? Some NASCAR fans would say the biggest story of race had to be the pit strategy by the #18 team that not only got Kyle Busch out front during the race, but once out front, couldn’t by catch, and won the race, or the fact that his teammate Denny Hamlin after leading the most laps was once again denied victory at his home racetrack. While those are two interesting stories to some, in my eyes, it wasn’t. The biggest story of the Crown Royal presen...

My Take: What if NASCAR qualifying is cancelled and what about the 2009 All
2009-05-08 03:10:00
Whether it’s NASCAR, Motorsports, Automobiles or more entertainment here on RaceDriven.com, I bring you my opinion (because that is what blogging is – someone’s take on any subject) in style, so let’s get started. In NASCAR, just about every day even in the off season, there seems to be a new discussion on just about any topic in NASCAR from on-track action to the off-track action and today is no different. As a blogger, writer and NASCAR fan, there are always issues facing NASCAR, every decision NASCAR makes is going to be meant with both positive and negative reaction and the latest discussions are just the tip of the iceberg from this past month.1. How to set the grid if NASCAR qualifying is cancelled or washed out.As a NASCAR fan, I hate to see qualifying get washed out due to weather or cancelled for any reason, right now, if qualifying is cancelled, NASCAR will set the starting lineup by owner’s points and for some drivers who are currently not in the top 35 and are g...

Danica Patrick: Racing in the IndyCar Series for the rest of 2009 and NASCA
2009-05-04 00:11:00
As not only a NASCAR fan, but a Motorsports fan, I watch the IRL IndyCar Series as well and have been watching Danica Patrick since her days driving in the Toyota Atlantic Series and then coming up into the now Indycar Series, running for Rahal/Letterman before joining Andretti-Green Racing a few years ago.In that time, the subject of Danica Patrick leaving the IndyCar Series and moving to NASCAR has made headlines several times including her visiting I believe it was Chicagoland Speedway and talking to Roush Racing some time ago. This past Friday, Boost Mobile and Motorola announced that they have Joins Forces as Title Sponsor of Racing Star Danica Patrick’s Andretti Green Racing IndyCar Series for the Indianapolis 500 and the rest of 2009, so we know where Danica Patrick will be driving for the rest of the 2009 season, however with her contract with Andretti-Green Racing up at the end of this season, once again, the famous talk of Danica Patrick moving to NASCAR has come to the s...

Team Shelby wins Bullrun 2 on SPEED.
2009-05-01 05:00:00
As I sit here moments after watching the season finale of Bullrun 2: One Helluva ride, let alone not only watching, but blogging on the entire 10 episode season, I have to say, that Bullrun 2 ended up being a lot like the first season of Bullrun two years ago, however while the cars and the people have somewhat changed, and more importantly, the format and the loopholes have changed too, the competition hasn’t changed and neither have the wild challenges and that’s all a good thing. But one comment, hopefully there is a season 3 of Bullrun, but one thing I loved it in the first season was when the team with the overall slowest time in that driving leg before and after the challenge was sent packing, but no swapping of times, maybe a time bonus like in the finals did, that’s what gave the show that excitement, and not deciding it by the luck of a challenge. I don’t know how you would do it, but that’s what added that bit of excitement to legs and the show. With that said, in ...

Reconfiguration is the best option NASCAR has for both Daytona and Talladeg
2009-04-30 09:36:00
As a NASCAR fan that has been watching and for the most part enjoying the sport (yes the sport does like most things in life have issues) for a good 17 years now, both Daytona International Speedway and Talladega Superspeedway are among the most exciting racing in the sport, but not the only excitement. I love short track racing like Bristol, Martinsville, Richmond, and yes Phoenix and New Hampshire are getting to be exciting races with this new COT cars in the Cup Series.Restrictor plate racing in mind eyes is a heart-stopping, yet hard to watch at times type (or form) of racing in NASCAR. Let me state the obvious, I am not a huge restrictor plate racing fan but while I don’t hate this type of racing, for the most part, I don’t like it too much either. I would describe restrictor plate racing as a giant chess match and at the same time, a game of survival, you don’t win one of these races, you survival the races, you just came in first in the game of survival. (It’s like wi...

Should General Motors keep several models including the G8 from brands bein
2009-04-28 23:43:00
With General Motors announcing that they are accelerating there revised Viability Plan which will focus on four core brands in the U.S. - Chevrolet, Cadillac, Buick and GMC - with fewer nameplates and a more competitive level of marketing support per brand. At the same time will moves up the resolution of Saab, Saturn, and Hummer to the end of 2009 and phase out the Pontiac brand by 2010.This not only got me thinking, but has a number of people thinking about what is going to happen to some of these vehicles under the phased out brands. For example, you have Hummer, Saab, Saturn and now the phased out by 2010 Pontiac, but the problem is while GM doesn’t need even four brands, they need two or three max they do need some well selling vehicles under those few brands. Pontiac has the G8 and the Solstice, Saturn has the Aura and Vue including the hybrid and I would be surprised if they didn’t save one Hummer, either the H2 or the H3, but as a diesel power plant. One suggestion from t...

Whether it’s NASCAR, Motorsports, Automobiles or more entertainment here on RaceDriven.com, I bring you my opinion (because that is what blogging is – someone’s take on any subject) in style, so let’s get started.1. Topping the list from this past Saturday night’s Subway 500 race for the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series in Phoenix has to Mark Martin, Martin grabbed the pole for race, lead 157 of the 312 laps and captured his first victory since 2005 (Kansas), this was also his first win with Hendrick Motorsports.I highlighted this one for a few reasons, mainly due to as a NASCAR fan who has been following the sport for over 17 years now, I not only have my favorite drivers that I watch every race like Dale Earnhardt Jr. and Tony Stewart, but there are also those drivers like Jeff Burton and Mark Martin that I have respect, so seeing Mark Martin driving for Hendrick Motorsports and get his first victory in since 2005 was an incredible sight to see, he and that entire #5 team deserv...

Bullrun 2: Episode 5 – Goodbye Team Camaro.
2009-03-23 21:49:00
This past week on Bullrun remaindered me more of the topsy-turvy 2009 NASCAR season in the fact that strong team such as Team Solstice and Team Lexus that are normally fighting for the top spot in each leg now found themselves either towards or at the bottom, while teams like Team Avalanche and Team Camaro found themselves at the top for what I can remember the first time, but will it continue into the next leg? There are two critical parts needed in a competition like Bullrun, first picking a co-driver/navigator that can find their way from one checkpoint to another. From what is shown on television, it’s always interesting seeing how some of those teams find their way to that next checkpoint with just a simple card that in a lot of cases now doesn’t even list an address or even a state.Of course the second critical part needed in these competition and that is just as important as a co-driver, I’m talking about the vehicle you bring, which in a lot of ways could mean the diffe...

First four races, five drivers to watch so far in the 2009 NASCAR Cup Serie
2009-03-16 19:00:00
As I (a NASCAR fan, blogger, writer) sits here the Monday after this past weekend’s NASCAR off weekend where I spent most of Sunday writing articles for RaceDriven.com and watching DVD’s, you know, Cars, Smokey and the Bandit, the Italian Job, and of course Jeff Dunham, I’ve learned several different things over the course of the past four weeks in NASCAR.After a very boring and long off season, it was perfect to kick off the 2009 NASCAR Cup Serie s season with seeing the green flag wave at Daytona and hearing those famous words “Boogity, Boogity, Boogity, Let’s go racin’ boys”, now we are four races in or four weeks into the season, I’m still excited, but what happened over the past four weeks in NASCAR? What five drivers to watch starting this coming weekend at Bristol, Martinsville and beyond?First what a group of races we have had so far in 2009, we started the 2009 season off with none other than the 51st Daytona 500, a race that I describe in three parts “Firs...

NASCAR’s top 5 biggest issues in 2009
2009-03-15 21:04:00
Welcome back ladies and gentlemen, as this topsy-turvy 2009 NASCAR season continues on next week at Bristol Motor Speedway, there is currently a lot of decisions among the drivers, teams, owners, sponsors, fans and especially in the media about NASCAR’s future and what impact the shaky economy right now will have on the sport, so here is my top 5 issues in NASCAR that should to be address going forward and even though I don’t see NASCAR making wholesale changes in the future, it is a new era, new economy right now in the world and with everyone coming down to reality, it’s time for some change, step by step.1. The shaky economy is one of the biggest topics right now in NASCAR, on one hand in the Cup series, some teams are seeing new sponsors come in, but on the other hand, while the Cup Series has seen growth, the Nationwide Series and the Truck Series haven’t and has forced some teams to close down due to lack of sponsors, so in light of this, what can NASCAR do with the Na...

Bullrun 2: Episode 4 – Team Evo and Team Dart just didn't get the memo.
2009-03-13 05:21:00
Oh brother!, what an episode, where do I start…I just finished watching Bullrun 2 and I am completely shocked and yet I really shouldn’t be, but I do know one thing, when Bill Goldberg says go, you go, but follow directions people.Let’s start right from the word go, after last week’s episode where I still believe something weird went down with Team Ferrari going home instead of Team Evo solely based on time and penalties during the not only the challenge, but where were the time penalties for speeding? I will never know, I guess in Bullrun 2, you only get a penalty if you get a ticket, so I guess its drive at your own risk, anyway, it’s a new day and let’s go.The idea that using a current map seems to be foreign to some teams because for the second week in a row, Team Avalanche took another short cut that ended up getting them lost, but at the same time, leave it to Team Avalanche to add some humor and some dram to the whole thing and no I am not talking about using an G...

2009-03-12 20:19:00
What an achievement this is for me, my first and only blog RaceDriven.com that currently has over 630 postings, turns four years old today (March 12, 2009).Around four years ago, I was introduced to the world of blogging though some online friends, a televisoon show called "The Screen Savers on Techtv with Leo Laporte, Kevin Rose and more" and a blogging article, blogging in my eyes is a good way to express yourself, in a since, it’s voicing your opinion, but in a soft tone and yet can still being heard or read by many. Blogging is publishing your opinion on any given subject, like for example, from my passions in life like listening to country music, writing itself or Motorsports, NASCAR and Automobiles.Back on March 12, 2005, I started this blog called RaceDriven.com. The name basically comes from first, being a huge Motorsports and Car enthusiast and second, being driven in life to succeed, with that, RaceDriven.com was born. In creating and developing RaceDriven.com, I’ve le...

A picture is worth a thousand words and this picture shows both discussions in details with #47 gas man chased after his driver's loose wheel, some empty seats on the front straightaway during the Cup race and Clint Bowyer in the #33 BB&T Chevrolet racing at full speed, wow what a picture. (Photo Credit: NASCAR.com via Yahoo! Sports)The NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race at Atlanta Motor Speedway this past weekend debate lives on with two key discussions.1) Marcos Ambrose’s crew member did what during Sunday’s Cup Series race? In case you didn’t see what happened, here’s the NASCAR.com video, basically, on lap 67 during a round of green flag pit stops, the #47 car made a normal pit stop, during the stop, a tire got away, so the gas man of the #47-Marcos Ambrose’s team, chased the loose tire which was halfway to the flag stand on front straightway by the time he caught it and rolled it back, because he went out to get the tire during green conditions, NASCAR called for a ca...

Blogging in my eyes is publishing your comments on any given topic, it’s a way for the blogger/writer to have a soft voice, but yet still be heard, now with that in mind, on any given day, RaceDriven.com receives several emails from PR firms and advertising companies known as press releases, the subjects differ from Motorsports, Automobiles, and beyond, mainly of course given that RaceDriven is mainly talking about NASCAR, the releases are NASCAR driven from anything that has to do with the drivers, teams including a crew chief being released or hired, owners, sponsors including the new official hotel of a race team in Atlanta (or somewhere else) and beyond. So when I read a release in my email box, first I am happy that I am even considered to be on their list, however not all releases I can work with, only a handful of them I will publish to be specific, while reading a release, I look for a way to adapt the subject into either a current article I am writing or a completely new a...

2009-03-09 01:00:00
Welcome back ladies and gentlemen, before I discuss earlier today’s Kobalt Tools 500 (yes I am plugging the sponsor as a NASCAR fan, no, nobody paid me too) at the Atlanta Motor Speedway, right now, the key word here is history, so leading up to the 100th NASCAR Cup race at Atlanta, I thought that I would look back over the last 10 years, there has been several exciting Cup Series races and finishes here at Atlanta, so let’s take a look back at a few of those historical races. When it comes to NASCAR fans talking about memorable finishes and victories at Atlanta Motor Speedway, three come to mind right from the start, ironically enough, all three would come in the spring race at Atlanta, the first one extends all the way back to March 20, 2000, the Cracker Barrel 500, a race that was dominated early and often by Mike Skinner in the #31 with Larry McReynolds on top of the pit box, Skinner would lead 191 laps and was closing in on the finish, however disaster struck the RCR driver ...

The Good and The Bad: Survivor, CSI with Taylor Swift, Burn Notice and Bull
2009-03-07 02:13:00
As a part of the entertainment side of my life, television is something that I enjoy regularly, however Thursday night is one of those nights depending upon the time of year that normally seems to be interesting for me, what a line up on television that I set to tape on my DVR from my local cable company. Yes, it’s rare for me to watch anything live anymore with the exception of watching NASCAR racing, so taping them and watching them anywhere between 30 minutes later to the next day is normal for me. Survivor is normal to me, I rarely miss an episode of it and that goes for the hit show Burn Notice and the new season of Bull run (Bullrun 2) that gets really nasty at times, however when it comes to CSI, that is a completely different story. The good of the night: So let’s start with CSI: Crime Scene Investigation from last night, for some reason or another, I hate the sight of blood and dead bodies, some people are scared of spiders, snakes, I am hate the sight of blood and dead b...

The start to the Shelby 427 at Las Vegas Motor Speedway this past weekend for the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race. (Photo Credit: Todd Warshaw/Getty Images via NASCAR PR)What a difference from last weekend’s Auto Club 500 race at California Speedway to this past weekend’s Shelby 427 at Las Vegas Motor Speedway, wow, that statement is putting it loosely, where do I start?First, in the eyes of this NASCAR fan and writer, one of the biggest noticeable differences had to be the near sellout crowd in Las Vegas vs. whatever that was at California Speedway. There has been a lot of discussion online as to why California Speedway has two Cup Series dates while other tracks, either has one or none?Let me state the obvious right from the start, I have nothing against the state of California hosting one, two or three Cup Series dates, including one Cup date in Sonoma that draws a great crowd on the road course, that isn’t the issue here, however it is about California Speedway and their lac...
Bullrun 2: Episode 2 – No dice for Team Pantera.
2009-02-28 23:20:00
Image Credit:Team Pantera (CarDomain site)Time seems to be the key in Bullrun season 2, time for the teams to get up to speed, time to get from one checkpoint to the next checkpoint, best time in the challenge to stay in the game and yet more time for the fans of the show to get use to the new format and new unique cast of charactors and vehicles. As a fan of the original Bullrun almost two years ago, I have to say that the new format is really starting to grow on me. Back in the original season, there really was little to no chance for a team that made a slight or huge mistake in the legs, getting from checkpoint to checkpoint to dig out of the hole and not be elimated, however for this new format in season 2, the format allows a team that made a slight mistake in the legs to have a second chance at survival and at the same time not pon off the bad time on another team, does “poison arrow” ring a bell from the original Bullrun, not in season 2, even if you get lost in a leg, you...
