Dakar Rally 2008 Cancelled
2008-01-06 14:45:00
The Dakar Rally racing had been cancelled for Terrorist Threaten, the day before the racing start day. The race was scheduled to start in Lisbon on Saturday but the murder of four French tourists in Mauritania on December 24 led to the French government advising against any travel to the African country. Nine of the rally’s stages were due to pass through Mauritania from January 11-19 before the event finished in Dakar on January 20. “Following several consultations with the French government — in particular the Ministry of Foreign Affairs — and taking into account its firm recommendations, the organizers of the Dakar have taken the decision to cancel the 2008 edition of the rally scheduled for January 5-20 between Lisbon and the Senegalese capital,” the Amaury Sport Organization (ASO) said in a statement. The ASO said there had been “direct threats against the race issued by terrorist groups.” It is the first time in its 30-year history tha...

The 2009 Toyota Venza details about the specs have not give out, so maybe we’d just have to wait until the motor show, next January. 2008 Detroit Motor Show: Land Rover LRX
2007-12-21 14:48:00
Ford Motor Co. unit will introduce a new car-based concept vehicle at the 2008 North American International Auto Show . It is more compact, lighter and “sustainable” than anything the venerable off-road specialist has engineered and built before. The 3-door LRX pushes Land Rover into new territory — pint-sized SUVs that are more car-like than truck-like. It is smaller than the LR2 — the smallest Land Rover available — and would be built on a new platform, the company says. It is just the latest example of how automakers worldwide are responding to pressure from consumers and government regulators to increase fuel efficiency, reduce carbon dioxide emissions and expand recycling efforts. Ford is in the process of selling Land Rover, and the new owner faces the prospect of investing heavily in alternative fuel technology. Europe is weighing more stringent caps on carbon dioxide emissions, and U.K. officials have already warned Land Rover may be forced out ...

How Car Insurance: Three Cover Options on Car Insurance
2007-12-02 14:04:00
As choosing your car insurance, you normally have three opts. For real budget car insurance you can opt for the very basic third-party only cover. Next up you can add in protection against fire and theft. Finally, you can go the whole hog and opt for fully comprehensive. Option 1: Third-party only cover ‘Third-party only’ is the most basic form of motor insurance that insurers are usually willing to sell. It protects other people if you happen to smash into them. Any damage to your own car that has been caused by your poor driving is not covered unless you can prove that someone else was at fault, in which case you will then have to claim off their insurance cover. If your car is destroyed in a fire or is taken for a joy ride never to be seen again you will not be able to claim. Option 2: Third party, fire and theft cover This adds in protection in case the car is stolen or catches fire. So if joy riders steal your car or set it on fire, you’re covered for its ...

Car Insurance Tips: Your Insurance Not Cover Driving Other People’s C
2007-12-02 13:52:00
Many people assume that if they have comprehensive car insurance then they are automatically covered to drive other people’s cars. This is not always the case. Some insurers no longer offer this cover and those that do don’t offer it to everyone. The only way to know is to check your insurance certificate, which will state clearly if you have it. One more thing to beware of is that the ‘driving other cars’ extension gives you just the basic insurance cover allowed by law. This is called Road Traffic Act cover, which is even less than third-party only insurance. The nub of this is, if you have an expensive accident whilst driving someone else’s car, you may end up being liable for part of the other party’s claim! Also, when you park a car driven on this extension and walk away, it is no longer insured at all, which means you cannot claim for damage, fire or theft. At least, not until a named driver on the policy takes control of the vehicle again. ...

If you take public transportation instead of driving to work, your premium will go down. Out of the question? Try carpooling. Step Two Make sure you get all the discounts you are entitled to. You might qualify if your vehicle has an alarm, for example. Discounts used to be given for such safety features as airbags, but they’re fading away as those items become more commonplace. Car Insurance Tips: How to Save Off 60% (Part Four)
2007-12-02 09:51:00
If You’re A Young Driver If it’s your first time behind the wheel, or you have only been named on a parent’s policy and you now need insurance in your own right, your premiums can be costly. You haven’t yet had the opportunity to build up a no claims bonus, which means you won’t qualify for a discount. But don’t despair. Some insurers will provide a special introductory discount for new drivers or accelerated policies where a no claims bonus can be earned over a shorter period. This type of policy might allow you to build up the first year’s bonus in say, ten months rather than twelve. Car Insurance Tips: How to Save Off 60% (Part Three)
2007-12-02 09:49:00
How Protected Are You? Don’t think just because you have a protected no claims bonus you can be any less careful than before. Crucially insurers will still take your claims history into account when setting your premiums for the following year even if your discount is protected. Your new premium at renewal could still rise if you have made a claim. While you’ll continue to qualify for the same discount as before, this discount will now reduce the cost of a higher premium which has been loaded following your claim. In other words, your percentage discount will remain intact but the actual cost of your insurance could be higher than before. Remember the best route to cheaper car insurance is to avoid making a claim! That said, I think protecting your no claims bonus is still worth the extra cost. You should still be able to get a less expensive policy than you would with no bonus at all. To Read: Car Insurance Tips : How to Save Off 60%  (Part One) Car Insurance Tips: Ho...
Car Insurance Tips: How to Save Off 60% (Part Two)
2007-12-02 09:45:00
Step-Back If you have to make a claim, most insurers will ’step-back’ your discount, typically by two years. So let’s say you have a four year no claims bonus which entitles you to a discount of 60%. After a claim your discount would be cut to 40%, which is the typical discount you would receive after two consecutive claim-free years. For this reason it’s worth avoiding a claim if the costs involved aren’t much greater than the excess payable under your policy. It could be more beneficial in the long run to pay the costs yourself to preserve your bonus. You can pay extra to protect your discount, although this is usually only possible once you have already built up a full no claims bonus. By paying a higher premium for your insurance, your discount will be unaffected by future claims. Recent analysis has found that, on average, a protected no claims bonus adds around £31 to your annual premium. To Read: Car Insurance Tips : How to Save Off 60%  (Part O...

Car Insurance Tips: How to Save Off 60% (Part One)
2007-12-02 09:42:00
It’s  you first time to hit the roads as a new, inexperienced driver, then the cost of your car insurance can be pretty steep. That’s why building up a no claims bonus over the next few years is crucial in reducing your premiums. Insurers will lower the cost of your insurance policy if you manage to keep a claim-free record. This gives you a no claims bonus which entitles you to a premium discount at renewal. Surprisingly there’s no standard scale of bonuses but the table below shows how they generally accumulate: Period of Insurance Typical No Claims Bonus/Discount One year (i.e. the preceding year) 30% Two consecutive years 40% Three consecutive years 50% Four or more consecutive years 60% You’ll enjoy a larger discount for each year that passes claim-free and it usually takes five years to reach the maximum. A full no claims bonus is typically rewarded by reducing your premiums by a whopping 60%, although some insurers may offer even greater...

Nissan 2008 Armada LE 4X4 Tech-Details
2007-12-02 09:22:00
The exterior design of the 2008 Nissan  Armada has never been one of our favorites. The front and back ends look like they were designed at different time by different folks and welded together at the factory. That being said, the ride and comfort are excellent and comparable to a much smaller vehicle. The turning radius is very tight, and you don’t feel as much body roll as you would expect from a vehicle this large. Inside of the 2008 Nissan Armada, it’s far handsomer than one might expect looking at its exterior, and provides enough space for just about anything a family might need. The auto liftgate comes in particularly handy when loading up the cargo hold, as does the backup camera in negotiating parking spots and driveways. That said, clearly the missing element in this test vehicle is a navigation system. The center screen is there, all the controls seem to be in place, yet no nav is included in the $48,000 price tag. Given all the equipment on this vehicle, from...

Nissan 2009 GT-R Return to Godzilla
2007-12-02 09:15:00
After six years of teaser concepts and prototypes and a week of embarrassing media leaks; Japan’s newest supercar took its official bow at the Tokyo Motor Show. “The GT-R meets the three key requirements to be a supercar, a power to weight ratio of better then 4kg per one horsepower, top speed of more than 300km/h and a sub-eight minute time at the Nurburgring; but it is much more than that,” chief vehicle engineer for the GT-R project, Kazutoshi Mizuno, said before the official show launch. “What we wanted was a supercar for all seasons; a multi-performance supercar that an owner can live with all year.” “This car is the technological flagship for Nissan ; the new craftsmanship of the 21st century is embodied in the GT-R.” While Mizuno’s ebullience is that of a proud parent; he has worked on the project for almost a decade and is known within Nissan as the father of the GT-R, there is little about the car that doesn’t support his enthusiasm. The lon...

2007-12-02 09:07:00
Nissan is recalling nearly 700,000 Altima and Sentra passenger cars to fix problems with a sensor that could lead to engine stalling. A spokesperson for the Nissan Motor Company says there have been no reports of crashes or injuries tied to the issue. However, the problem could cause the engine to stop running with no warning while the car is being driven at low speeds. The company says owners should take their cars to dealers to reprogram the electronic control module. More than 650,000 of the recalled vehicles are in the United States, with the remainder in Mexico and Canada. The Japanese car maker says the recall affects Altima and Sentra cars from the 2002 and the 2005 to 2006 model years. The Home Energy Station IV can reduce both cost and carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions ...
