Kelly announces new ways to beat motorway jams
2007-10-27 17:53:00 An innovative traffic management system that cuts journey times and helps keep motorways moving is to be extended to other parts of the network, Transport Secretary Ruth Kell y announced today. Following a successful trial on the M42, new ways of managing motorway traffic - including hard shoulder running - will be implemented as part of a £150m scheme on the motorway box around Birmingham, and a feasibility study will be undertaken to consider if similar schemes could help to beat congestion on other parts of the motorway network. Ruth Kelly said: The M42 trial shows that using innovative thinking to help drivers beat motorway jams really works. New traffic management techniques, like hard shoulder running and varying speed limits, offer practical and cost-effective solutions to cutting congestion and I now want to explore whether other motorways could benefit from similarly creative measures. Other important benefits are less disruption from road works, reduced environment... More About: Jams , Beat , Anno
Respect for Drivers!
2007-10-27 14:00:00 It seems every day you read the news that a driver has been attacked robbed or even killed what more can drivers do to protect themselves!I was reading one story where a girl was explaining about her father who was a hard working taxi driver aged 58 and one night picked up 3 lads and they started taunting him and actually telling him that they were not paying and they eventually stopped and ran off! But when her dad got out to check the back seats they came back and beat him up! These stories are now very common but also it's the attitude of passengers and the way they talk to you! Trat you like shit no wonder it's a stressful job dealing with the public even in the executive side they can make your life a misery the way some of the people treat their drivers! They should respect the proffesion as it is a very hard making a living these days never mind putting up with people who treat drivers like *! £%££!!!!!!! More About: Drivers , Respect

2007-10-27 13:18:00 One afternoon, a wealthy lawyer was riding in the back of his limousine when he saw two men eating grass by the road-side. He ordered his driver to stop, and he got out to investigate.“Why are you eating grass?” he asked one man.“We don’t have any money for food,” the poor man replied.“Oh, well, you can come with me to my house,” instructed the lawyer.“But, sir, I have a wife and two children with me!”“Bring them along!” replied the lawyer. He turned to the other man and said: “You come with us, too.”“But I have a wife and six children,” the second man answered.“Bring them as well” replied the lawyer. They all climbed into the car, which was no easy task, even for a car as large as the limousine.Once underway, one of the poor fellows says: “Sir, you are too kind. Thank you for taking all of us with you.”The lawyer replied: “Glad to do it. You’ll love my place;... More About: Jokes , Grass
Joke::::::The Chauffeur?
2007-10-26 10:00:00 The distinguished professor and his chauffeur were talking one day on the way to the next speaking engagement, and the driver said, I've sat in the back and listened to your presentation so many times that I can give it just as well as you can. The professor said I'll bet you can't. Just to prove it, we'll trade clothes in the hotel, and I'll sit in the back. The chauffeur delivered the lecture flawlessly, and the audience applauded him roundly. Then a pompous professor from the local university, wishing to impress his colleagues in the audience, stood and asked a very specific question concerning the driver's presentation. The driver said, I am amazed that you would ask such a silly question. The answer is so obvious that I am going to ask my chauffeur, who is sitting in the back, to answer your ridiculous question. More About: Jokes , Joke

Operator to Operator Sub Contracting!
2007-10-18 08:23:00 According to the Miscellaneous Provisions Act 1976 Cross Border Hiring or Sub-Contracting from one Licenced Operator to another is allowed as long as both Operators are Licensed in the same district. If a Operator uses a Operator outside of his district then this is unlawful! If you are a London Operator then it is ok for you to use non-London Operators but if you are a non-London Operator then you cannot use a London Operator or any other Operator that is outside your own district! Now don't get me wrong here but something is not right how can people doing the same job but because they are licenced in different parts of the country they can either have all the cake and eat it and then others are restricted!Anyway my beef is not with the London Operators but with the Law as it stands it is clearly wrong and someone needs to look at what actually Chauffeur companies do and how they operate as I know lots operate all over the country and without the help of other Operators would not...
How green is my limo?
2007-10-17 16:29:00 You know, when you are CEO of one of Ukrainian companies in America, people tend to watch and see if you have the floor. That is why I am particularly proud of my new Green Limo (GL). I have always been concerned about the environment. Not so long ago, I even rode Sun shuttle to work every day with the serfs. In fact, I hear they have since converted to organic biodiesel. But the GL is really something special. As the world's first hybrid plug-in limousine, it is actually carbon neutral. In fact, whenever I am on 101, there is less able to fit 2.5 SUV on the road. Looking forward, I think I sold Google to get one of these children for each of their employees. If this materializes, I think , we could eliminate traffic and pollution throughout the Bay area!

2007-10-15 19:53:00 Driver Dave Smith helped set the world record for the number of cars being driven in convoy. The city businessman, who operates 1stlincslimo went to Blackpool to take part in the limousine convoy on Monday. A total of 124 cars across the country filled the city's Golden Mile. The Guinness Book of Records has now confirmed the attempted valid, with a convoy which stretched over 1.8miles. And Mr. Smith, said he was proud to be part of it. It was simply a brilliant, crazy experience, he said. When I arrived, there was lots of these cars parked in car parks. Mine's about 30ft long, but some others were approximately twice that. Then in the evening, hundreds of people lined the streets as we drove through the city. They were all cheering us along although we made the place come to a standstill. All funds raised by the event, estimated that about 20,000 pounds sterling, will be handed over to the mayor’s designated charities in Blackpool. More About: World , World Record , Driver , Limo
Limousine Rentals for Prom on the Rise
2007-10-15 18:38:00 According to the limousine industry, more and more high school age students are renting limousines to ride to their prom. For a student at this age, prom is an important final step in their high school lives. It is in many cases the last time they get to see a lot of their school acquaintances short of a class reunion. For couples, it is the culminating romantic experience of high school. To make it as memorable as possible, they turn to limousine rentals. What better to make the most of the night than a ride in a luxury car normally reserved for the rich? For a long time, safety and finances were important issues in dealing with limousine rentals. Seatbelts not being worn and the size of the vehicle make the former an understandable concern. However, compared to the most likely alternative, the students driving themselves, it is safer in many regards. The drivers are tested and trained to drive a vehicle as large as the limousine and can handle what the road throws at them. Becaus... More About: Prom , Rentals , Rise , Limousine , Sine
Livingstone shows lack of Knowledge for "Black" London "Black Cab " Trainin
2007-10-15 09:02:00 Yesterday I read that Ken Livingstone has created an ethnic assistance program for minority trainees for the London Black Cab taxi test, otherwise known as The Knowledge . And it has already received a storm of controversy. The Knowledge is about the three year study program that tests a knowledge of all London streets, in addition to general management and service knowledge, as well as overall skills relating to the vehicle. There is a mis-match between the the population average of black and ethnic minorities (BME) living in London, which is 30 percent on average, but in some boroughs even much higher, and the average of BME inside the cab trade. The London Development Agency, LDA, which is an authority Livingstone is directly responsible for, has decided to offer ethnic minority people special help, such as a free motorbike, which is needed to drive around London to learn the streets, language skills and other assistance and courses. Some have nicknamed this program the Ethnic K... More About: Hackney Carriage , Lack

London black cab production to be delayed
2007-10-14 04:36:00 London black cab manufacturer, Manganese Bronze, signed with the Geely Automobile last year to the famous London taxi in China for export to the United Kingdom and use in China. Manganese Bronze acknowledged that they had only one taxi market in the London area because of the tradition and the high cost of the cabin thanks to the strong British Pound because of the cabin too expensive for other markets. Geely offered their Maple factory for the manufacture TX4 taxi in China where materials and labor costs are a fraction of the UK. The company, 52% owned by Geely and 48% by Manganse Bronze was delayed for three months because of several documents, which had an effect on the production of dates, a spokesman for Manganese Bronze hopes prototype taxis to be in mid-2008. Taxi driver fined for smoking in his own taxi
2007-10-12 16:34:00 A taxi driver has fallen foul of the new laws against smoking and fined £ 50 for smoking in his own cabin. The man was punished after a Council officer in Oldham saw him smoking a cigarette in his private taxi while Parked in the Rochdale Road. There were no passengers in his taxi at the time. The new laws make it a crime to light in any workplace at any time - this includes taxis and private vehicles. The goal is to protect the public from the effects of second-hand smoke. Some taxi drivers in Scotland have been fined under the law of smoke free legislation, but this is the first Case in England since the ban was introduced on 1 July. It is also the first smoking fine of Oldham since the new rules were in. More About: Taxi Driver , Driver , Smoking , Taxi

Personal Safety on the Job
2007-10-11 12:34:00 As a chauffeur, traffic hazards are hardly the only threats you face on the job. In a small, closed space, you are at risk for assault and other dangers. I encountered this situation myself when two years ago, I was robbed at gunpoint by a passenger. Since that terrifying incident, I have been extremely cautious in my work, and fortunately, I have not been threatened or assaulted since. I hope these safety procedures I have picked up help keep you out of harm’s way as much as possible. Never be afraid to refuse a passenger. If they give unclear directions, appear nervous or “on the edge,” or ask you to transport them to an area you know is dangerous and are uncomfortable driving to, do not hesitate to say no. If you feel awkward refusing a passenger, feel free to give an easy excuse; tell the person that you don’t drive to that side of town. Be confident in your answer, whatever it is; do not appear at all vulnerable. Make sure you do not keep large amounts o... More About: Personal , Safety

A Drunken Chauffeur
2007-10-10 07:03:00 My brother got married late last month and I was given the responsibility of making most of the arrangements including the choice of the limo. Instead of the conventional Lincoln or Cadillac I decided to go in for a Hummer H2 Stretch Limo. My brother and his bride to be were quite excited about the idea as well. I had personally instructed him to arrive early just in case so as to make sure that he was present whenever required throughout the wedding ceremony. Just when I thought that the day had passed without any untoward incident, I was taken aback by the fact that the chauffeur had had a few drinks during the course of the wedding celebrations. I still have no idea as to how it could have happened but could not believe that an on duty chauffeur could consume alcohol in the first place. It not only reflected an utter lack of judgment on his part but also a careless attitude towards the safety of the passengers under his charge. His excuse was he had consumed permissible limits ...
An Anniversary to Remember
2007-10-09 13:10:00 Alpha limo services provided me with the best customer service I have ever experienced. From the very start they were very warm and cordial patiently answering all my queries and addressing all my concerns. I had planned to give a tour of Los Angeles to my parents for completing twenty five years of marriage. They not only helped me out in opting for the services I could afford but also made wonderful suggestions regarding the tour map and the route that would be most enjoyable for sightseeing on a memorable evening. The chauffeur who arrived before time to get acquainted with my parents greeted them warmly and congratulated them on twenty five years of their marriage. When I saw my parents leave in the limo, I was feeling as if I had given a gift they would cherish for the rest of their lives. Later they gave me an account of their exciting tour and kept praising the chauffeur for his cordial gestures. One particular incident impressed me as well even though I wasn’t physi... No Courtesies to Be Expected
More articles from this author:2007-10-09 13:02:00 I recently hired a chauffeur to attend a business meeting and was hoping that the car would be an estimable one as I needed to impress my clients. To my pleasant surprise, the chauffeur arrived in a Jaguar S-Type and looked reasonably presentable himself. However, when I tried to strike up a conversation with him he was not very forthcoming so I decided to refrain from socializing with him. The fact that I was going to arrive at the meeting in this luxury car contented me for the time being. Things took an unpleasant turn when after having arrived at my destination I waited for him to come and open the door for me. There was an awkward five minute wait during which he kept looking at me through the rear view mirror almost as if he was trying to tell me that I should not expect such courtesies from a chauffeur. What made the situation even more humiliating was that during this entire episode my clients were waiting outside for me to emerge out of the car and witnessed my embarrassmen... 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7 |
