Selling number plates - a guide
2007-07-30 02:43:00 If you want to a number plate, you have are 3 main choices. You can either Sell through a dealer (on commission) or Sell directly to a dealer or Sell independently Selling a registration number on commission: Generally, there are no advertising fees if you sell through a dealer. However, dealers will charge a commission fee when your number plate is sold. This can be up to 60% of the advertised retail price. For instance, when a number plate is for advertised sale at around £1000, up to £600 could be dealer commission fees. Fees can be £1000’s for higher priced registrations. Sometimes dealers charge a fee for a ‘sponsored listing’ to make sure your number plate appears at the top of the search list for selected word(s). Selling a registration mark to a dealer: Registrations do not usually sell quickly. So if you need to sell your number plate quickly, you can sometimes sell direct to a dealer. Often the higher value number plates can be sold... More About: Guide , Guid , Number

Self-service taxi trend: contactless payments announced
2007-06-14 18:39:00 SAN FRANCISCO – Visa and Creative Mobile Technologies announced the launch of a program to equip thousands of New York taxicabs with contactless payment readers, located in the back of the taxi. New York taxis equipped with the new readers are able to accept both Visa payWave transactions as well as traditional swipe transactions. Passengers are able to include a tip to the price of the fare, and no signature is required for transactions under $25. Visa research shows more and more consumers want to use a payment card for purchases under $25 for convenience (73 percent), efficiency (44 percent) and speed (39 percent). “Our goal is to bring cutting-edge technology to the New York taxi industry to increase efficiency and quality of service,” said Jesse H. Heathrow extends taxi management systems
2007-06-14 18:33:00 Dave Friedlos Airport operator BAA is extending taxi management systems to Heathrow Terminal 5 to handle a predicted one million taxi movements when the 2012 Olympics begin. IT services provider Steria has already deployed the system at existing terminals and will expand it to the new £4bn Terminal 5 when it opens in March 2008. The system will reduce taxi waiting times at what will be the world’s busiest airport and allow it control and track taxi access to the terminals. Fixed and handheld devices will monitor taxis, which will be equipped with radio frequency identification (RFID) tags, to identify vehicles and their drivers. Data will then be transmitted back to system headquarters over a wireless network. Staff will also be able to communicate using the devices to ensure flexibility in the event of unplanned events like road works or accidents. The system has provided significant benefits since it was rolled out to terminals 1 to 4, says Izaura Padrao, B... More About: News , Management , Systems , Mana , Ends

MB council rejects taxi rooftop ads
2007-06-14 10:22:00 Lisa Fleisher The Myrtle Beach City Council knocked down a proposal today to bring back rooftop ads on taxis by a 5-2 vote, with two council members changing their positions from a previous vote. The ads were banned in 1998, but taxi company owners and drivers asked the council to revive them, saying the extra income would help them make ends meet. Some council members and several taxi drivers said they did not want the ads roving around the city because they thought they were ugly. In April, the council voted 4-3 in favor of approving the ads. http://www.myrtlebeachonline.com/news/bre aking_news/story/97521.html More About: Taxi

Milwaukee Airport Cab Limit Struck Down
2007-06-14 09:58:00 RYAN J. FOLEY MADISON, Wis. — In a ruling that could give more ground transportation choices to Milwaukee airport users, the state Supreme Court struck down part of a county ordinance that requires taxis picking up travelers to have permits. In a 5-2 decision, the court tossed out the convictions of two cab drivers ticketed at General Mitchell International Airport in 2005 for lacking the permit. The ordinance went into effect in the late 1980s to end an "open" taxi system that led to traffic and safety problems, caused taxis to wait hours for customers and even prompted fights between drivers jockeying for position. Some drivers refused to pick up travelers who needed short rides. The ordinance requires taxis picking up random travelers curbside and those who make prearranged pickups of specific travelers to obtain a permit. It also limits the number of permits to 50. The court acknowledged the ordinance has ended congestion and said its ruling does not ...
Mercedes E Class Back on Top
2007-06-12 10:33:00 Gail Edmondson Imagine the cheers in Stuttgart and the grumbling in Munich. The Merc edes E Class Sedan ranked best premium mid-sized sedan in the J.D. Power Initial Quality Survey -- after several years of humiliatingly poor performances. That's a nice coup for Chief Executive Dieter Zetsche, who admitted defeat at Chrysler last month and sold 81 percent of the struggling US unit to private equity group Cerberus. The newly-redesigned Mercedes S-Class also soared in J.D. Power's ratings, tying for first with the impressive Audi A8. Overall, the Mercedes-Benz brand improved by 20 positions—the greatest rank increase of any nameplate in the study. All Mercedes-Benz models in the study cruised higher in the rankings. Of course, Mercedes Chief Executive Dieter Zetsche has to make the gains stick in the reliability survey, which tests a car's quality after three years. Now that Mercedes' top brass no longer has to fret about Chrysler and it can focus its t... More About: Back

Molly Bloom is moving forward.
2007-06-11 01:07:00 Laura Main The Denver teen who lost her leg on Prom Night last May has reached a financial settlement in her civil case. The accident last May happened at the intersection of 17th and Sherman. Molly and her friends were getting into a Hummer stretch limo on their way to the prom, when the driver didn't realize Molly wasn't completely inside the vehicle. He took off as she was climbing in and dragged her almost 40 feet before stopping. She lost a leg and half of her pelvis. After countless surgeries and months of physical therapy, Molly can now walk with the help of crutches and a prosthetic leg. "Despite catastrophe, despite set-backs, life continues." Bloom said. "And I'd like to tell you to make the most of all the situations you face." Bus and taxi drivers face 'eco-safe' tests
2007-06-10 22:52:00 Richard Gray Bus, lorry and taxi drivers are to be given lessons on how to drive in a more environmentally friendly way. Techniques for green motoring will be introduced next year into tests for passenger and large goods vehicle licences. Local authorities are also piloting a scheme that could require taxi drivers to take courses in how to drive in an environmentally friendly way before they are awarded a licence to operate. Eco-safe driving, as it is called, encourages motorists to drive more efficiently to reduce the impact they have on the environment by reducing fuel consumption and exhaust fume emissions. According to the Driving Standards Agency (DSA), drivers can significantly reduce the amount of fuel they use by accelerating less ferociously, revving the engine less and reducing sharp braking by anticipating the need to slow down or stop. The agency also wants drivers to switch off their engines if they are stationary in traffic, at bus stops or on taxi ranks. ... More About: News , Drivers , Face , Tests , Safe
Taxi drivers could lose licence
More articles from this author:2007-06-10 07:03:00 Tom Edwards TWO thirds of Worcester taxi drivers have been warned they could lose their licences if they continue to ignore requests to collect official guidebooks. The city council is fuming after it was revealed 264 taxi drivers, owners and operators in Worcester do not have up-to-date copies. Only 108 drivers have picked the books up from the authority so far - despite having had since February to do so. But the taxi driver association said drivers had not collected the book because of a dispute over certain conditions. Councillor Stephen Hodgson said at highly-charged licensing meeting: "We may have to look at seriously imposing conditions to say to drivers, you will lose your license unless you collect your book. "It needs that degree of seriousness - if drivers are not prepared to collect them, we have to be firm." advertisementThe book contains details on rules and conditions of the licence, as well as important safety and bylaw information....
