Haven't seen you around the blogs lately where have you been? Oh I'm sorry it's me that has been missing. Our website www.direcfordparts.com has been so busy for the last few weeks that I haven't had time to write in my blogs. I suppose that is a good problem to have considering the opposite. Ford part sales nationwide have been slow for most dealerships but we have taken the bull by the horns and are doing everything we can to grow our business thru difficult times. I won't say it hasn't been a lot of hard work but we have the privledge of serving some of the coolest people in the country. My First truck was an 64 Ford regular cab long bed. It was tan in color. The steering wheel was semi horizontal like a city bus. I bought it from my brother for $100.00 because it wouldn't start. I pushed it to the garage around the corner and for $26.00 I got it running. I traded a guy a tank of gas for the stereo in his car so I had tunes. Sometimes when I was driving it would just stall and I would have to get out, take a screwdriver and tap the carburetor with the handle because the float would get stuck. A couple of taps and I was "on the road again." I had a lot of great times in that Ford truck. I miss that truck. I want one just like it again! www.directfordparts.com

What is the EGR valve and what does it do?When combustion temperatures exceed 2500 degree F., atmospheric nitrogen begins to react with oxygen during combustion. The result is various compounds called nitrogen oxides (NOX), which play a major role in urban air pollution. To reduce the formation of NOX, combustion temperatures must be kept below the NOX threshold. This is done by recirculating a small amount of exhaust through the "exhaust gas recirculation," or EGR. valve. The EGR valve controls a small passageway between the intake and exhaust manifolds. When the valve opens, intake vacuum draws exhaust through the valve. This dilutes the incoming air/fuel mixture and has a quenching effect on combustion temperatures which keeps NOX within acceptable limits. As an added benefit, it also reduces the engine?s octane requirements which lessens the danger of detonation (spark knock). The EGR valve consists of a poppet valve and a vacuum diaphragm.
