Get A Lift When You Need It
2008-02-07 01:23:00 AMP Resarch developed the BedStep, a tailgate flip-down step that makes it easy to access the cargo in your truck's bed. Many consumers find that a full-size pickup truck is just the right size vehicle for hauling everything from a month's worth of groceries to weekend toys such as ATVs and Jet Skis. But in many cases, accessing the bed to reach all of the cargo inside can sometimes be a chore. Jumping up onto the tailgate to access cargo and climbing down back to the ground can be difficult for many. This is one of the reasons why AMP Research in Irvine, California, came up with the BedStepGet A Lift When You Need It - Chevy Truck World Articles

Dodge Ram 1500 Is Truly Incredible
2008-02-07 00:54:00 This Green Ram pays tribute to the Incredible Hulk.It takes lots of effort to turn a stock 1500 Dodge Ram into a cool street custom. Going beyond bolting on performance and custom parts, Victor Castillo wanted to make his truck unique, but also needed it to drive daily and maintain some functionality as a work truck for his glass company, Victor Glass Co. Although a lot of guys would have air-bagged and severely dropped the Ram, Castillio maintained the factory suspension and used some McGaughy's lowering spindles and flip kit to bring down the Ram four inches from its factory ride height. GPS Systems
2008-02-05 23:51:00 So, it's Saturday morning and The Kid -- (she's actually my wonderful little girl, but for now, I am going to call her THE KID because, well, because calling her THE KID makes me sound like the smart alec, detached dude whose voice I think this story is best told in). Anyway, The Kid has a soccer game in a part of the town that neither my wife nor I are familiar with. Nor, it turns out, a part of town where we would want to become, shall we say, regularly acquainted. And, truthfully, we have no freakin' idea where the park is located. And since I am a man (right, Honey?), I'm not about to ask anyone for directions. But that's cool.In fact, we do not give that a second thought. We are ultra-confident parental units. We can afford to be because in my Moxie-esque wisdom, I purchased a portable GPS some time ago, knowing that I would never, ever, put my family in harm's way -- or in a soccer coach's doghouse for being late -- because we got lost.Taboo yourself. High Performance Story
2008-02-03 04:50:00 Top This for a Speeding Ticket . . . Submitted by "Culater" -- California Chapter President of Ford Truck World. You Might Also Call This a Near Miss! Two California highway patrol officers were conducting speeding enforcement on I-15, north of MCAS Miramar. One of the officers was using a hand-held radar device to check speeding vehicles approaching near the crest of a hill. The officers were suddenly surprised when the radar gun began reading 300 miles per hour. The officer attempted to reset the radar gun, but it would not reset and turned off. Just then a deafening roar over the treetops revealed that the radar had in fact locked onto a USMC F/A-18 Hornet, which was engaged in a low flying exercise near the location. Back at the CHP headquarters the patrol captain fired off a complaint to the USMC base commander. Back came a reply in true USMC style. Thank you for the message, which allows us to complete the file on this incident. You may be interested... More About: Performance , Story , High

SUV Best Gas Mileage Ratings
2008-02-03 03:01:00 Top 9 Compact & Mid-Size SUVs with the Best Fuel Economy Ratings From Dale WickellChoose carefully and you'll find a small or mid-size SUV that gets decent gas mileage. Not as good as a car, but that's the tradeoff when we drive an SUV. All of these SUVs are rated pretty good for their segment. Some are 2004 models, because we don't have gas mileage estimates for all the 2005 versions yet. Chances are they'll be similar or better. Remember that EPA ratings are estimates--your own mileage may differ, and that 2WD models get better mileage than their 4WD counterparts.1. 2005 Honda CR-VThe Honda CR-V's fuel economy ratings are an easy to take 21-23 mpg in the city and 26-29 mpg on the highway. The CR-V isn't an offroader, but it handles well where most of us need it to--on the pavement. It's roomy, dependable, and the price isn't bad, even though it went up for 2005: $19,995 to $25,050. The Honda CR-V uses regular gas.More Info More About: Mileage

Hummer H2 Suspension Upgrades
2008-02-03 02:45:00 H2 Owners Tell What Suspension Lifts They PreferWith the variety of aftermarket suspension systems on the market it is often difficult for any truck or SUV enthusiast to pick the right one. Hummer H2 owners recently gave their opinions on a variety of aftermarket suspension systems that they prefer. One of the things that is clear in their opinions, is that a majority of H2 owners like the ride and off-road capabilities of an aftermarket suspension over the factory one. Many also would love to swap out their Independent Front Suspension (IFS) system for a solid axle and leaf-spring suspension. The reason is that solid axles provide greater off-road capabilities and strength over IFS systems. Cost is usually a major factor in a conversion such as this, but when done correctly, the benefits are far greater for someone who is serious about their off-road capabilities. Find out what other H2 owners commented about which aftermarket suspension systems they preferred or add your own commen... More About: Upgrades
Off Road Driving
2008-02-03 02:32:00 As truck ownership has increased in America, so has the amount of off-highway recreation. There is no special license required to drive off-road, even though there are many different techniques and practices involved. There does exist an often unspoken etiquette that is practiced by old-school four-wheelers, which developed not just so that everyone can get along on the trail, but, primarily, for safety considerations. With the availability of trail-ready 4x4's, both in the traditional truck mold and outside of it, the slow and steady progression of four-wheeling initiation through involvement and camaraderie has been bypassed. The honor-by-association process misses the chance to be taught to the enthusiastic guy who just bought his first real 4x4.Responsible 4-wheeling is about finesse. Other features and driving techniques assist in the overall safety of your off-road outing, but finesse is the first and most important portion of your driving repertoire to acquire. Here are some... High Performance Engine
2008-02-02 02:37:00 Turning a 351W stock short block into a performance street and off-road engine Rebuilding a tired 351 Windsor in a 1990 4x4 Bronco seemed like a great idea, as we watched the steam rise from the engine compartment from what we thought was a cracked cylinder head. The plan was to simply leave the engine in the Bronco and swap out the cylinder heads for a higher-flowing, performance set that may gain us an additional 20-30 horsepower. The Bronco was set up as a rugged pre-runner style truck, with large fenders and a cool push bar/light bar up front. By adding more power to the 351, it would allow the Bronco to handle steeper terrain and provide the extra torque needed to power through some deep sand and mud. We knew that a good set of cylinder heads that can increase the port velocity, matched with a performance camshaft that can provide power from 1500 rpms thru 4,000 rpms, would provide enough horsepower and torque to accomplish our goal. With the wide... More About: Performance , Engine , High

Test Drive: Adventure Worthy FJ Cruiser
2008-01-29 03:01:00 All terrain sport utility vehicle with performance and economyToyota’s new FJ Cruiser started as a 2002 Detroit Auto Show concept vehicle that made it to market. It comes with tangibles you can touch and feel, and it comes with a combination of collective cool and the off-road capabilities Toyota has proven throughout past decades. It has its own cache of sorts. From the man on the street view, the FJ looked different and edgy. One of the principle reasons was put into the Toyota product mix is to scrub market share away from the H3's and Jeep Wrangler, and appeal to guys for road trips. After a week with the FJ it stands on its own as a capable highway and off-highway vehicle that pulls its own weight just fine. How To: LOWERING THE 2008 CHEVY SILVERADO
2008-01-27 23:49:00 Bringing the 2008 Chevy Silverado Down With McGaughy's 4-6 Lowering KitBeing around the custom truck industry for three decades, one of the things that I have seen as always being exciting for consumers is to see who is the first to come out with a lowering kit for an all-new body style. When the '07 GMs rolled onto the scene with an all-new suspension design, just like before, we started all over again -- wondering who would have the first 4-6 drop kit? When the '99 GMs hit the scene, it seemed like it took a while before a 4-6 kit was on the market. For the '07 the time to wait was very short as the guys at McGaughy's Suspension Parts jumped right on engineering a dropped spindle set up.The lowering industry has simply embraced the dropped spindle as the preferred means to get a truck down. There is no doubting the popularity of the dropped spindle for lowering purposes.Read the Whole Article and See Install Photos at Chevy Truck World
Truck Story: Michigan Ford Truck World has rough day, but fun, day at the s
2008-01-27 03:36:00 The following account is slightly edited. It is an actual first-hand account of how Michigan Ford Truck World member JMC spent his Saturday. Well, today my brand new halfshaft arrived. So Alex and I went down to the local fix- it-yourself garage and started work on the truck. We had to drop the front diff to install the snap ring that holds the driver side axle in. Well this place had snapring pliers, but you needed another set of pliers to straighten out the snap ring pliers. We tried just removing the front diff cover, but it is bolted to the frame and it would not clear the ears on the crossmember. See where this is headed down hill fast? After 20 minutes of choice religious french words the front diff is sitting on the floor. After screwing around with the modified snapring pliers we got it set. Back up goes the front diff. But wait we cut corners and left the passenger side halfshaft in the hub. Well it was in the way and after 20 minutes of prying and cussing this ki... More About: Story
