Stolen equipment not yet recovered
2008-02-01 07:44:00 More than a month after a loaded gun and other police equipment were stolen from a Douglas County Sheriff’s deputy’s pickup truck, the search for the missing items continues. Sheriff Ken McGovern said that as far as he knows none of the equipment has been recovered. As for the deputy who left the department truck running unattended at his rural Douglas County home, that matter was handled with “administrative action,” McGovern said. He declined to elaborate. “The officer made a judgment error, and we corrected that action,” McGovern said. The officer, who has not been identified, started the truck and then left it unattended for five minutes, sheriff’s spokeswoman Lt. Kari Wempe said at the time. When the officer returned, the truck was gone. It was found a few hours later abandoned in Kansas City, Mo. The police equipment was gone. In addition to the Glock .40-caliber pistol, other items taken were a pair of handcuffs, a pepper spray canister, two bulletproof vests, a... More About: Equipment , Stolen
Get behind the wheel of a merry Locomobile
2008-01-31 21:45:00 In the teens and 1920s, the Locomobile 48 was a mighty road giant, a car of top quality, built to last. There were lesser models of the Locomobile as well, offered during the mid-’20s when Billy Durant and Durant Motors had control of the company. But the 48 and nearly as big 90 were the stars of the Locomobile galaxy. The 48 was so good, in fact, that the corporate heads decided to continue it, virtually unchanged, from the teens right up to the last of the 1929 Locomobiles. When I was a kid in Oakland, Calif., I was really quite interested in old cars, and carefully read the Tribune auto classified ads — even at age 10 — looking for an occasional old car offered for sale. One day I saw a Locomobile in the classifieds. The odd name intrigued me: Was it half-locomotive and half-car? It was the first time I’d heard of one, and I asked Mom if she would drive me over to see it. She didn’t, but she did allow me to go to see a yellow and black ‘37 Cord Coupe (a rare body type... These Old fire Trucks won’t flame out
2008-01-31 21:07:00 When Ypsilanti officials gave a 1950 fire truck to Bois Blanc Island more than 40 years ago, they never thought they would see it again. But the Ford truck, which does not run, is back in Ypsilanti, ready to take its place in the city’s firefighting history. The Ypsilanti City Council voted recently to transfer the title of the old truck to the Michigan Fire house Museum in Ypsilanti for renovation. The museum wants to add the truck to its collection of about 50 fire trucks at 110 W. Cross St. Museum curator Matt Lee said the plan is to renovate the 1950 Ford truck that was made in Lansing and is familiar to a lot of people in the city. There is no Ypsilanti fire truck at the museum, he said. “The vehicle will end up in a happy home,” Lee said. Fire Chief Jon Ichesco said the city used the truck for about 15 years and either gave it or sold it to the Bois Blanc Island Fire Department in the mid-1960s. The volunteer fire department there used it for several years and... More About: Trucks , Flame
Why Your Vehicle Needs Rustproofing
2008-01-31 12:44:00 Some vehicle owners think that after they have treated their vehicle’s surface and underside with simple wax or even costly corrosion-inhibiting and car fabric protection products, the rust problem is solved. This is not true. Underside panels are very vulnerable too. It’s them that you need rustproofing for. Whether you live inland or on the coast, in the hills or on a plain, in a huge city or a town, whether you own a new or a used vehicle; corrosion is always a very serious problem. All vehicles are subject to at least one of the following rust provoking factors; rain, snow, salty or humid air, rocksalt, sleet, home garage mould, atmospheric or man-made chemicals, washing detergents - all of which speeds up the corrosion of your vehicle radically! As my friend Jonathan from KROWN rust checking centre explains, rust prevention is basically the process of applying rust-inhibiting materials, sealers and persistent waxes to all corrosion-risky areas on the underside, topside and ... Automakers take showrooms to customers
2008-01-31 10:58:00 With truck sales sagging nationwide because of the slowdown in home construction, General Motors is taking its latest truck models to work sites and marketing directly to the people most likely to buy them. The Hard Days Work Tour is another twist in the latest trend in the highly competitive automotive business: Targeting specific groups of potential customers with events that put the vehicles right in from of them. From taking trucks directly to construction sites to offering test drives at football games, companies are looking for new ways to attract customers. GM’s Work Tour kicked off recently at Arizona State University’s new East Valley campus, where about 300 hard hats gathered for a free lunch and a look at the trucks. They also lined up for a free power-tool raffle and certificates worth $250 toward the purchase of a GM truck. “Well, it’s a great way to get people’s attention,” said Kevin Davis, a construction worker from Queen Creek. Tougher Safety Standards Expected
2008-01-29 20:44:00 Key safety regulations from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration will have a direct affect on light-duty commercial vehicles. Two key safety regulations from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration will have a direct impact on light-duty commercial vehicles, and some manufacturers already have added compliant features. One regulation calls for tougher standards to help protect passengers from side-impact crashes, a NHTSA spokeswoman said. The second calls for electronic stability control systems for light-duty commercial vehicles and cars with a gross vehicle weight rating of 10,000 pounds to reduce the risk of rollover injuries. NHTSA rules requiring the use of electronic stability control systems were finalized and published in 2007. ESC systems will be phased in starting with the 2009 model year when 55% of light-duty vehicles must be so equipped. By 2012, 100% of vehicles 10,000 pounds GVW or less must be covered, NHTSA said. Insurance is a must in this transitory life
2008-01-28 15:21:00 Life is transitory……we cannot overcome this. But to surpass such a reality is not possible. We can at least afford to overcome the consequences. For such a reason the insurance companies are framing policies and coverages to provide us with the best possible insurance in the market. Life is uncertain… so the life insurance policies promise a reimbursement of a good amount of money to the nominee, in exchange of a monthly premium. Accidents are inevitable….But to maintain a life without the use of auto is unthinkable. So to overcome any possible crisis when you meet with an auto accident, auto insurance is of great help to you. Apart from food to eat and air to breathe, water to drink and clothes to wear we need a house to live. A house protects us from heat, cold, and rain. So to keep our house secured is essential. Home insurance comes with a wide range of coverage options to help us and protect our home. At times accidents lead to disastrous consequences. Health insurance ... More About: Life , Insurance
Hitachi launches AC drive in rigid dump trucks
2008-01-24 12:27:00 Hitachi Mining, a part of Hitachi Construction Machinery, has introduced AC drive in rigid Dump trucks. The EH3500AC is powered by a Cummins 16-cylinder, QSK50 Tier II compliant turbo diesel, developing 1491kW at 1900rpm and driving through axle-mounted Hitachi AC traction drives. Fully loaded, the EH3500 weighs 500 tonnes with a payload of 360+ tonnes. The truck is powered by two AC traction motors, which propels the gargantuan to a speed of over 55KPH. The motors also function as electric brakes bringing the 3.6 metre wheels to a safe stop without the use of mechanical brake pads. AC drives start-off with a basic 6-7% higher efficiency over DC drives of comparable size, allowing faster travel speeds while reducing diesel fuel consumption. Using the same drive concept as a diesel electric locomotive, the EH3500 AC’s 3500HP diesel engine powers an AC alternator. Constant voltage DC from this alternator is transformed by an inverter into variable frequency AC, which in turn supplie... More About: Trucks , Drive , Hitachi

Truck hanging off highway overpass
2008-01-17 14:36:00 A TRUCK is hanging over the rails of an overpass on the M5 motorway in Sydney’s southwest, causing serious traffic problems. The semi-trailer lost control as it tried to turn right from the M5 onto the Henry Lawson Drive overpass at Milperra about 1pm (AEDT) today, police said. The truck driver got out of the cabin safely. The load of a shipping container slid off the back of the truck, which rolled onto its side to hang over the edge of the overpass. The Roads and Traffic Authority (RTA) has warned of extensive delays as Henry Lawson Drive and part of the M5 have been closed while cranes remove the truck and engineers inspect the overpass. Westbound traffic on the M5 is being detoured via the on and off-ramps to continue along the motorway. Traffic queues on the M5 extend back to King Georges Road, several kilometres away, the RTA said. More About: Truck , Highway

Stable real estate market with great weather and golf
2008-01-14 08:35:00 The bad weather in the northeast this weekend, which included two estrange snow storms and a stupid alluvium of ice, got me thinking ahead to our trip to South Carolina between Christmas and New Years. That may not be far enough south; weather duration the last weekend of December is regularly a crapshoot along the Carolinas coast. I’ve played golf that week in blunt sleeves and I’ve played in a ski jacket. I recall a beginner from New Jersey whom I was matched up with at Pawleys Plantation one year.He was so bundled up he looked like the Michelin Man, and swung like him as well. The only sure bet this time of the year is someplace undeniably warm, like the Caribbean or southern Florida. Friday’s Wall Street thing, which was not delivered to my approach because of the snow, featured an itemise about Americans investing in island homes. Properties in the Dominican Republic, the itemise indicates, have appreciated by twofold digits in contemporary years. Sounds good to me; many ... Indian Music – HINDI, TAMIL, and TELUGU Film Music
2008-01-11 18:01:00 Introduction Twenty centuries ago, the essential role of music of India was deemed to be purely ritualistic. Music as entertainment is supposed to have evolved much later. Another part of Indian music is folk music. Indian classical music is said to have evolved out of the mixture of these. It is presumed that folk music existed long before the Aryans came to India, the Dravidians having their own. The art of music practised in India has a special significance, as it has developed from the ritualistic music in association with folk music and other musical expressions of neighbouring nations, developing into its own characteristic art. Matured through ‘’thought, experience and expression”, Indian classical music has become unique in the world. THE ORIGINS OF INDIAN MUSIC The origin of Indian music is said to be rooted in the Vedas. It is said that God Himself is musical sound, the sound which pervades the whole universe, i.e. Nadabrahma. The origins of Indian music are therefor... More About: Film , Telugu , Hindi
