Escape the chlorine routine: Salt systems provide a kinder, gentler way to
2007-12-18 14:45:00 Imagine never having to add liquid or tablet chlorine to your pool! With today’s state-of-the-art salt water pool sanitizing systems, you can enjoy healthy, pristine pool water without the usual fuss, expense, or aggravating side effects from off-the-shelf chlorine. One popular system creates what is commonly referred to as a “salt pool,” “saltwater pool,” or “salt generator”. The benefits are dramatic. “For starters, you are going to avoid the stinging red eyes, dry itchy skin, and irritation in your nose that are so common with traditionally chlorinated pools,” explains R’nelle Lazlo, national spokesperson for Blue Haven Pools & Spas. Water won’t dry out and discolor hair and swim suits, create heavy scum lines, or erode the pool’s interior finish, she says. Salt systems create a consistently gentle swimming environment and can help prevent water imbalances that sometimes play a role in causing swimmer’s ear and nasal ... How does a salt water pool chlorinator work and is it right for my pool?
2007-12-18 14:44:00 How does a salt water pool chlorinator work and is it right for my pool?Though there is a certain appeal to swimming at the lake, when a pool owner goes to their backyard pool, they want to see clear blue water. Greenish brown murky water just is not acceptable! The salt chlorinator has two parts: 1. A cell-produces chlorite 2. A power pack-to supply the cell A salt chlorinator is an electronic device that takes salt and turns it into chlorine. Salt is made up of two elements-sodium and chlorine. When mildly salted water goes through the salt cell of a salt chlorinator, the chlorine is immediately dissolved to go to work sanitizing the water. The most effective sanitizer is chlorine. It will destroy bacteria, viruses, and algae in a swimming pool. A salt chlorinator simply separates the chloride molecule from salt to make the chlorine available. During this process, a small amount of ozone is produced, giving the swimming pool water an added sparkle as the sun reflects off the wate... More About: Work , Water , Pool

Travel Insurance, Term Insurance and Disability Insurance
2007-12-18 11:59:00 Travel Insurance is insurance coverage that protects you when traveling abroad. Travel insurance is often purchased through a travel agent when making travel plans. A travel agent can help you make the right travel insurance choices, based on your specific plans. You can also purchase travel insurance online. It is important to go with a quality company when doing so, however, as many travel insurance companies are not created equally. In fact, many have loopholes that allow them to avoid paying claims. This of course defeats the purpose of having the travel insurance, so book with caution. Another way to get travel insurance protection at little or no cost is taking a look at your existing coverages. Some car insurance policies have riders that provide for certain coverage’s when traveling internationally. Additionally, some higher end credit cards will offer travel insurance protection if you charge your travel plans through that credit card. This, of course, only scratches ... What is Search Engine Optimization?
2007-12-15 19:46:00 Search Engine Optimization (SEO) and Search Engine Management (SEM), or as it is sometimes called Search Engine Maintenance, is in an industry unto itself. While it seems that this would all be a part of the web design service industry, this is virtually impossible for most web design firms as the customized SEO/SEM components of commercial web development projects are by themselves a full time job with years of research involved. Not for Taree Internet SEO Company who not only ranks top 5 for “SEO Company”, but is amongst the top 25 in the world for the ultra competitive term “SEO” which is targeted by the industries best. We opened our doors only a few months ago, but have immediately beaten teams of the industry’s biggest names who have been trying for years to nudge their way in to the top 50! SEO starts at the design level, as internal linking structure and anchor text play a critical role in how optimized your site is for Search Engines. Taree Int... diamond pendant
2007-12-15 11:17:00 One of the most beautiful and common stones used for jewelry today are diamonds. They are one of the hardest natural materials that we have come across. You can discover this by using a diamond to try to scratch the surface of a mirror. Is you succeed than you know you have a real diamond. If not than you better ask that man of yours where he got it! The U.S. spends around $9 billion dollars mining these precious stones. So you can only imagine how much they find each year and how much they make. Everything from earrings, to bracelets, and a simple diamond pendant can be made with real diamonds. During the ancient days many kings would use diamonds as a religious symbol much like what we do today. Many people create diamond cut cross necklaces and diamond cross pendant. At Didomi they show us the creativity that is put into making these amazing necklaces. There are many different types of diamond cross jewelry that has been made and many people wear it to show their devotion to Go... More About: Diamond

Streamlined truck from the 50s
2007-12-05 12:05:00 In the 1950s Carrimore launched this – its Streamline Close-Coupled semi-trailer – and I’m sure you will agree that it looks fantastic. It must also have been incredibly fuel-efficient and puts yesterday’s Tesco Leyland Economy Vehicle to shame. And it’s got better go-faster stripes. More About: Truck
Woman killed in 407 crash
2007-12-05 11:56:00 One person was killed and two others injured after a car smashed into a tow truck parked at the side of westbound Highway 407, east of Bramalea Rd.According to police, the Tow truck was servicing a vehicle with a windshield that had been broken by ice coming off another vehicle. While the Tow truck was stopped, police say a woman driving a BMW hit the back of the truck. The car rolled onto its roof and slid about 120 metres and collided with a westbound Toyota. Three people were taken to Brampton Civic Hospital. One person was pronounced dead and two others – including the Tow-truck driver – were treated for minor injuries. The westbound lanes of Highway 407, from Bramalea Rd. to Highway 427, was closed for much of the day. More About: Woman , Crash , Killed
Bodine Holds Off Crawford, Benson In 3-Wide Talladega Truck Finish
2007-12-05 10:53:00 Todd Bodine barely held off Rick Crawford and Johnny Benson in a three-wide finish Saturday in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series race at Talladega Superspeedway. Bodine, the reigning Truck champion, was out front for a restart with two laps to go on the 2.66-mile oval, with Crawford and Benson close behind in a single-file line of competitors. It stayed that way until the final corner of the 94-lap race, when Crawford drove high on the steeply banked track and Benson, a former series champion, ducked below Bodine. That’s the way they drove across the finish line, with Bodine beating Crawford by 0.014 seconds — about the length of a hood. Benson was 0.028 seconds behind the winner, with Jason Leffler, in fourth, also less than a second behind Bodine. “We only made one change in practice to make this Toyota Truck run better,” said Bodine, who started from the pole. “It was awesome.” The wild race included several crashes, the biggest of which came o... Unhealthy truckers try to shape up
2007-11-13 13:38:00 Truck drivers — the people who deliver our food, cars and clothing — have one of the most dangerous jobs in America — accounting for nearly 15 percent of U.S. work-related deaths. And that’s only counting the accidents. They are also more at risk than average Americans for a number of health problems. Obesity is rampant. Many don’t bother to wear seatbelts because their stomachs get in the way. About one in four have sleep apnea. Half of them smoke. The latest research in an upcoming report drives home those points and may help influence government regulations for truck drivers’ health, which are under review. The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration is considering tightening its rules for conditions including diabetes and high blood pressure. And many companies are stepping up their own efforts at improving health. “It takes a while to undo years and years and years of unhealthy behavior,” said Christie Cullinan of the American... States restrict Truck traffic
2007-11-13 12:26:00 A move is on across the USA to unsnarl interstate highways where escalating Truck traffic is adding to congestion and rattling drivers of passenger cars. Truck-only lanes and a plan to divert some Truck cargo to ships along the Atlantic Coast are among the initiatives getting scrutiny from state and federal agencies. About 75,000 more big rigs cruise onto already crowded highways every year. Florida has already taken action, banning Big Trucks from the far left lane of Interstate 4 on a 60-mile stretch between Tampa and Orlando. Stretches of I-75 and I-95 elsewhere in Florida have similar restrictions. Elsewhere: •Georgia, where Truck traffic is likely to grow by more than 50% over the next 20 years, is considering Truck-only toll lanes on parts of I-75 northwest of Atlanta and on a 20-mile stretch of the I-285 beltway that surrounds the city. •Missouri, Illinois, Indiana and Ohio are using a $5 million federal grant to study adding truck-only lanes on I-70 from Kansas City to C... More Diesel Cars on the way
2007-11-13 12:04:00 Representatives from a number of car companies say high diesel prices will not deter them from introducing Diesel vehicles in coming years. Diesel engines get 20% to 40% better mileage than similar-size gasoline engines and even at current prices would save the average driver hundreds of dollars in fuel costs. Currently, only Mercedes-Benz sells multiple diesel models in the USA — one sedan and three SUVs, all priced $1,000 more than similar gasoline models. “Our diesel customer research shows that total cost of ownership, factoring purchase price, fuel economy and cost, maintenance and resale value, has greater influence than diesel fuel cost in isolation,” says Keith Price, spokesman at Volkswagen of America, which is reintroducing its diesel models next year, after a one-year hiatus to engineer its diesel engines to meet tougher U.S. pollution standards. “There is a belief that prices will moderate,” says Larry Dominique, vice president in charge of prod... Businesses, Truckers feel pain of higher Diesel prices
2007-11-13 11:36:00 Linda Dague is offering free shipping to entice customers to order from her 2-year-old company, which sells clothing and other items for premature babies. Lately, Dague has started to question her decision. Shipping costs have risen 20% in the last year and look likely to rise even more. That has put pressure on her margins. “The way shipping is going, it’s a fine line between making money and losing money,” says Dague, president of Colorado Springs-based Anna’s, which was named after her granddaughter, Aurianna, who was born prematurely and just celebrated her 12th birthday. Diesel prices have surged in recent weeks to record levels, putting a strain on truck drivers, businesses and, potentially, the economy, at a time when economic activity is already slowing. The nationwide average price for a gallon of diesel was $3.30 last week, breaking the previous record set following Hurricanes Katrina and Rita, the Energy Department said. That was up nearly 15 cents... More About: Pain , Higher , Truckers , Feel
Company slashes tuition for Truck-Driver Training
2007-11-13 11:14:00 A Truck ing company trying to deal with a nationwide shortage of Truck drivers is using a state grant to re-duce the tuition charged for driver training. Watkins & Shepard Trucking Co. cut the usual $4,000 tuition to $1,000. The company expects students to make an initial payment of $250 and pay the balance through weekly installments of $15. The reduction follows a $315,000 state grant received by the company, which expects the state assistance to be an incen-tive for the training of 63 new drivers. Training costs have been a significant obstacle to driver recruitment, said Ray Kuntz, chief executive of Watkins & Shepard, which has terminals in Helena, Missoula and Billings. Students are screened before they start the four-week training, and they are guaranteed jobs if they complete it success-fully. In 2006, the average first-year pay for a Watkins & Shepard driver topped $43,300. An American Trucking Association study in 2006 found the country short about 20,000 truck ... Grant helps Missoula firm train more Truckers
2007-11-13 10:50:00 As a shortage of truck drivers looms nationwide, Watkins and Shepard Trucking will use a $315,000 state grant to offer reduced tuition at its truck-driving school. The award from the Montana Department of Commerce will allow the Missoula-based company to train and employ 63 newly created truck-driving positions. It enables Watkins and Shepard to remove one of the significant barriers to people wanting to come into the industry — training costs, said Ray Kuntz, chief executive officer of Watkins and Shepard. The normal tuition of $4,000 will be reduced to $1,000. New students will only have to pay $250 down to start and the remaining $750 is repaid over one year at a rate of $15 per week. All Watkins and Shepard students are prescreened so they have a guaranteed job offer in hand when they start training. In the last 24 months Watkins and Shepard has trained and employed 71 Montanans through its basic commercial motor-vehicle operator training course. Kuntz said truck driving is co... About $85K collected this year from Overweight Trucks
2007-11-12 11:54:00 Newark has twice the law enforcement patrolling for overweight commercial vehicles than it did during this time in 2006, and the fines collected are offsetting some of the damage to the roads, city and county officials said. In January, Newark police dedicated a full-time officer, Patrolman Troy Cochran, to weighing and inspecting trucks that drive on city streets, joining Licking County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Gus Moore, who covers the city and the rest of the county. Since then, the two have combined to ticket commercial drivers to the tune of about $85,000, according to documents provided by the county engineer’s office and the municipal clerk of courts. The funds, depending on who collects them, either go to the county or the city. Craig Smith, staff assistant at the Licking County Engineer’s Office, said the total revenue brought in by Moore’s efforts and permits sold to truckers totals about $80,000 annually. That money goes to the road and bridge fund,... More About: Trucks , Year , Overweight , Weigh

Built around the question “Why Not?”, the campaign will include print and online ads, as well as a new television commercial directed by an Academy-award winning cinematographer. Toyota will be the exclusive advertiser tonight on “NBC Nightly News with Brian Williams,” where the television ad will debut. “Since we began corporate advertising, we have focused on educating Americans about Toyota and our growing presence here,” said Steve Sturm, group vice president of Toyota Motor North America. “But on our 50th anniversary in America, we have an opportunity to broaden our message and show how the core Toyota values drive everything that we do. People want to learn more about who we are as a company.” The campaign’s new television commercial is based on the “Earth Art&rdq... More About: Toyota , Advertising , Corporate , Campaign , Vert
Lights’ duty: No flashing allowed
2007-11-12 06:54:00 Traffic lights won’t be flashing on the Northwest Arterial QUESTION: Why can’t the stop lights on the Northwest Arterial flash yellow for the Arterial and red for the cross traffic from 11 p.m. to 6 a.m? For those of us who send deliveries out early in the morning to avoid traffic we find our Delivery Trucks stopping needlessly for no cross traffic. This would not only save time and fuel, it also would allow traffic to flow smoother on off hours. ANSWER: The lights will not be flashing on the Northwest Arterial anytime soon. “We keep the signals in operation during the night because flashing the lights yellow along a major arterial such as the Northwest Arterial leads to a lot of confusion among drivers,” said David Ness, a civil engineer with the city of Dubuque. Many drivers react differently to the flashing lights. “Some drivers come to a complete stop while others drive through them like they are green lights,” Ness said. “Drivers waitin... Trucks, boats and nukes
2007-11-08 01:04:00 It has been nearly six years since President Bush and Russian President Vladimir Putin memorably tooled around Bush’s Texas ranch in a pickup truck and discussed missile defense. That was shortly after Bush famously said he had glimpsed Putin’s soul and felt that he and the Russian leader had a bond of trust. And it was before the Iraq War, which Putin opposed, and before Putin compared U.S. foreign policy to Nazi Germany’s. The missile defense system never materialized. A few days ago, the two leaders had another go at it, meeting this time in Kennebunkport, Maine, at the Bush family compound, where they zoomed around in a speedboat with the elder President Bush. They also fished, played fetch with their dogs — Putin brought along his Labrador — and scooted around on Segway transporters. There’s no rule requiring that world leaders do guy things while ironing out issues — nor any guarantee of outcome — but it is a fact that men communicate best while... Rollover crash victim rescued, hospitalized
2007-11-07 18:40:00 Emergency crews struggled to extricate the victim of a rollover accident from her vehicle which flipped on Interstate-5 near Rogue River late Sunday afternoon. The 44-year-old woman was the sole occupant of the small white SUV that tumbled multiple times before coming to rest in the northbound fast lane about two miles south of Rogue River Exit 48 at about 4:45 p.m. Crews from Rogue River Fire District #1 rescued the woman by using the “jaws of life” to remove the back door of the victim’s vehicle, said Firefighter John Moore. The single-car accident backed up traffic on northbound I-5 lanes near Valley of the Rogue State Park for about a half mile as travelers were funneled into the interstate’s slow lane and shoulder. Oregon State Police arrived on scene during the rescue effort, which took about one hour. The cause remains under investigation. The victim was transported to Rogue Valley Medical Center, her condition was listed as stable late Sunday night. More About: Crash , Rollover , Victim , Rollo

eBay to focus on Heavy commercial vehicles in Punjab & Haryana
2007-11-05 14:26:00 e-Bay Motors India, an online business-to-business (B2B) market place, has said it would focus on trading in used heavy commercial vehicles (HCV) such as Trucks and Trailers in Punjab and Haryana . “Punjab and Haryana are the largest contributors of HCV and Trailers on B2B platform. These states are emerging as the largest hub for used Trucks and Trailers in the northern region. These factors promoted us to focus on HCV and tractor segments in these states,” e-Bay Motors India Private Limited Director (Motors) Amit Bhartiya said today. Dealers from cities, including Moga, Bhatinda, Mandi Gobindgarh, Jagraon and Amritsar in Punjab, and Hisar, Rohtak in Haryana have shown keen interest in buying and selling of HCV and Tractors from neighboring states through B2B platform. “It is encouraging for us that people from small cities are graduating towards B2B market place,” he informed. Mexican Trucks deliver in U.S.
2007-11-05 13:44:00 The American Truckers, environmentalists and politicians who are sounding the alarm about the potential dangers of allowing Mexican Tractor-Trailers onto U.S. interstate highways rarely mention an important fact: hundreds of Mexican-plated trucks already deliver cargo all over the United States, and have done so for years. Teamsters union members have waged angry protests, waving signs saying “NAFTA Kills” and “Unsafe Mexican Trucks .” But more than 1,000 south-of-the-border companies are already allowed to drive cargo beyond the border zone under a long-standing exemption to the U.S. moratorium. And these Mexican drivers and Trucks have had better driver and vehicle safety records than their U.S. counterparts in recent years, according to the U.S. Department of Transportation — although opponents say many violations never get recorded because of sloppy government record-keeping. “We are the same as they are. They think that we drink beer, use drug... More About: Deli
Cars with Trailers face city ban
More articles from this author:2007-11-05 13:28:00 CARS carrying Trailers could be banned from Dublin as part of a review of the city s ban on heavy goods vehicles (HGVs). A report to be presented to councillors next Thursday will recommend that the ban be extended to include four-axle vehicles from mid-2009, with council officials saying it could extend to a car and trailer. But employers group IBEC has claimed it was never consulted on the proposal. In a statement last night, it said the council had proposed “major changes” to the current ban with no explanation, no consultation and without a cost-benefit analysis being carried out. “This process must be followed before such a crucial decision is made. Setting policy in the absence of evidence or consultation is unlikely to lead to good decisions,” it said. A review of the HGV strategy found that 4,100 five-axle HGVs a day have been removed from the city since the port tunnel was opened last December and the ban came into effect last February.
