Sales of SUVs declined across the board in 2006 due to increased environmental concerns among consumers combined with major gas price fluctuations. Automakers are not, however, turning a deaf ear to this new environmental awareness. Stabilizing gas prices are also helping to bring consumers back into the SUV showrooms. Newly designed “crossover� SUVs, half car/half truck, are surfacing from all the major manufacturers. Ford’s new Edge, GMC’s Acadia, and Saturn’s Outlook are new models hoping to score points with conscientious consumers. High-end manufacturers are also upping the stakes as Cadillac releases a newly designed Escalade and Mercedes releases a high end GL-Class SUV which outperforms the lower priced R-Class SUVs. If these new models will be able to survive in a marketplace becoming more environmentally conscious remains to be seen. Automakers are hoping the utility and practicality of these vehicles will outweigh their negative image.

When most people see the words Nitrous Oxide they think of speeding cars and engines blowing up. But what is this magical substance and how does it work? Nitrous oxide is an oxidising agent used to increase horsepower by allowing the faster burning of fuel. It should be referred to as nitrous or nitrous oxide and not Nos, as Nos is the name of a company that manufacturers it (nitrous oxide systems). Nitrous oxide is basically the same as air in terms of chemistry and the molecules it consists of, the only difference being it has a higher percentage of oxygen at around 36 %. Nitrous oxide allows more fuel to be burnt in a shorter space of time because of the extra oxygen it produces, and it is the more fuel being burned that releases the power, not the nitrous. CLEVELAND (AP) - The only thing missing was the Mountain Dew. Three men were arrested early Friday after more than 600 pounds of marijuana was found wrapped in plastic in a truck carrying Chips Ahoy! cookies from Texas to Ohio. Police Lt. Thomas Stacho said the men, from southern Texas, were jailed pending formal drug trafficking charges. The marijuana was in the sleeper part of the cab of the truck, separate from the cookie crates in the cargo hold. The arrests were part of a three-month investigation. About two weeks ago, police, deputies and state agents made a similar drug bust when hundreds of pounds of marijuana was found in a truck hauling frozen broccoli. Police believe that in both instances the marijuana originated in Mexico.
