2008-05-28 00:00:00 Gregor Fisken will race an ex-works Ferrari 330 P3 at Paul Ricard this weekend having been invited to compete in the Ferrari Historic Challenge by the car?s owner. The Scottish-born racing driver, Managing Director of London?s leading historic automobile dealership Fiskens, has a long and illustrious past in historic racing and has also competed regularly in modern day sportscars, being one of only a select few drivers to have competed at the Le Mans 24 Hours in LMP1, LMP2, GT2 machinery and last year in GT1, in the Larbre run Aston Martin DBR9. Built in 1966, the second chassis of only three ever to be made, the P3 is an iconic racing car, with chassis number 0844 having won the Monza 1000kms in the hands of John Surtees and Mike Parkes and the Spa 1000kms with Parkes and Italian Ludovico Scarfiotti. Ex-Hulme M23 comes to Europe for Masters races
2008-05-17 00:00:00 A very famous McLaren M23 Grand Prix car is returning to Europe this summer to race in Grand Prix Masters events, starting on the Brands Hatch Grand Prix circuit on 25/26 May. Now owned and raced by New Zealander Phil Mauger, the M23 was raced in 18 Grands Prix by Denis Hulme and Mike Hailwood during 1973 and 1974 and Hulme took it to victory in the 1973 Swedish Grand Prix. Hulme, the 1967 World Champion, ended his Formula 1 career at the close of the 1974 season and was given the M23 as a gift from the McLaren team to mark the close of a decade of Grand Prix racing. In that time, he started 112 F1 races and won eight of them. The McLaren then remained in the ownership of the Hulme family after his death in 1992. Ickx Ferrari set for Masters Racing Series debut
2008-05-17 00:00:00 One of the most significant cars to return to racing in 2008, an ex-Jacky Ickx Ferrari 312B2, will make its debut in the Grand Prix Masters races on the Brands Hatch Grand Prix circuit next weekend (25/26 May). The Ferrari 312B2 that won the 1972 German Grand Prix in the hands of Ickx has not been raced since the 1970s, but is now due to return to racing in the skilled hands of James Hanson and is due on the grid at Brands after a long rebuild. After spending most of its life in private collections, the car was demonstrated by Ickx at the Monaco Historic Grand Prix in 2006, but has not raced for well over three decades. Ickx's 1972 victory at the Nurburgring was his last Grand Prix victory as the 312B2 struggled to compete with the Lotus 72 and Tyrrells. An impressive sight. The German Volvo P1800 IG and the Swiss Volvo-Sport Club P1800 are both celebrating their anniversary with a week's visit to Sweden. The group consists of 38 cars from Germany and 9 from Switzerland. The different Volvos are; 35 ES, 11 P/S/E and an Amazon GT, altogether 95 club members. The troop arrived with the ferry to Göteborg habour in the beginning of the week and will tour western Sweden for a couple of days. Volvo Cars was the main attraction yesterday with visits to the Volvo Museum, Brand Experience Centre and the Torslanda plant. Masters Racing Series racers enjoy Monaco success
2008-05-15 00:00:00 Competitors from the Masters Series enjoyed a highly successful weekend at Monaco during the biennial Grand Prix Historique (10/11 May). With five race winners from the seven race groups, and stronger than expected results for other competitors, the event proved to be extremely good for Masters racers. The team at Masters and all fellow members of Masters Racing Club send congratulations to those Masters regulars who were Monaco winners: Julian Bronson took another victory in the Mac Hulbert's ERA R4D in the pre-1947 GP car race. Simon Hadfield was a race winner in his 1961 Lotus 21 in the pre-1966 GP race. Duncan Dayton won in both his Lotus 16 and his Brabham BT33 in the pre-1960 and pre-1975 GP car races respectively. Professor John Monson scored his first Monaco win in his BMC Mk1 in the Formula Junior race. Touring 70s has been created by the Masters Racing Organisation and is set to become one of the most exciting race series in Europe. It has already received a tremendous response from competitors eager to race these stunning cars.
