The star of the sale, a stunning 1932 Bugatti Type 55 Super Sport that raced at Le Mans in 1934, sold for ?2,097,500, to a private European collector. The Type 55 Bugatti was the ultimate supercar of the early 1930s. Built as a road-going version of the Type 54 Grand Prix car, only 38 examples were built. There is great news for the Group C Racing series and motorsport enthusiasts in general, with the announcement that Mercedes Sauber C9 chassis number 05A, will be competing in the 2008 Group C Racing series. The car is steeped in history with five wins during the 1989 World Sportscar Championship in the hands of drivers Jean-Louis Schlesser and Jochen Mass. Castle Combe Circuit announced the death of Peter Baskett
2008-05-01 00:00:00 Management, staff, officials and supporters of the Castle Combe Circuit were deeply saddened to learn of the death of Peter Baskett, former Chief Medical Officer at the Wiltshire track for more than 40 years and an integral part of the medical team up until his death. Peter, a world renowned expert in anaesthesia and cardiopulmonary resuscitation, began working with the medical team at Castle Combe in the early 1960?s and was promoted to CMO in 1972. His immense skill and knowledge helped develop the Castle Combe team into one of the most respected in the business, a number of drivers owing their lives to his pioneering abilities and innovations in emergency care. The author of over 170 scientific publications, Peter also helped pioneer advanced training for ambulance staff into what we now know as paramedics.
