Dunlop/Gambia MSA British Historic Rally Championship, Pirelli Historic Ral
2008-04-27 00:00:00
Click on the picture to enlarge The Kielder region proved up to its daunting reputation on round two of the 2008 Dunlop/Gambia MSA British Historic Rally Championship , the Pirelli Historic Rally on 18/19 April. While the unforgiving ditches caught out some of the leading contenders and mechanical dramas accounted for others, a tremendous performance from Darren Moon and John McNichol (Escort Mk2) netted category three spoils. Unfortunately, a major accident befell Jimmy McRae/Andy Richardson (Porsche 911RS) on the penultimate stage when battling for the category. In category one, Patrick Watts and Elgan Davies set a scorching pace in the Sunbeam Tiger to win the category and set times that put them up with the top six category two and three crews. Meanwhile, in category two, a fine run for Rupert Lomax/David Alcock (Escort Mk2) brought them a first BHRC victory on their debut event in the region. Overall, the event was well received by the 65-strong historic entry, with everyone...

Broadbent?s Classic victory hopes deflated at Targa Tasmania
2008-04-20 00:00:00
Click on the picture to enlarge The hopes of Melbourne?s Rex Broadbent for back-to-back victories in the Shannons Classic Outright competition of this year?s Targa Tasmania were severely deflated on Tasmania?s West Coast when he suffered tyre problems on the penultimate stage of Day 4. One of the soft compound front tyres of his 1974 Porsche 911 RS replica began deflating in the Bastyan Dam penultimate stage of the day, but sealant applied to stem the leak during the following transport section caused major steering vibrations. As a result, he and NSW co-driver John Lilleyman lost 54 seconds to his key rivals on the following Reece Dam final stage and he limped to the finish with the tyre still deflating. Because the roll cage of his former circuit-racing Porsche does not allow space for a spare tyre to be carried, Broadbent was trying to borrow one from anther competitor overnight. If successful, he will incur a two minute time penalty, which will drop him to second place ? 24...

Targa day four produces drama and some favourites
2008-04-20 00:00:00
Click on the picture to enlarge South Australia Steve Glenney has further increased his lead in the Modern Competition on day four of Targa Tasmania, and will start day five in Strahan on Sunday morning carrying the hopes of Mitsubishi?s first victory in the tarmac classic. Glenney holds a 57 second advantage over Jim Richards after blitzing the day?s seven stages across 130 competitive kilometres. Even Richards, the only man in a position to mount any sort of challenge, knows that Glenney, barring an error, is probably out of reach. Rex Broadbent arrived in Strahan on Saturday evening in his Porsche 911 RS still leading the Outright Classic competition, but he may well drop off the top of the leader board if he decides to change a tyre and take a two-minute penalty. He currently leads Gavin James? Porsche 944 S2 by only one minute 36 seconds after dropping 54 seconds on the final stage when a re-inflated tyre threw his car out of balance and made it difficult to drive. His pro...

Targa tasmania 2008 Classic Comp etition" > Click on the picture to enlarge South Australian Steve Glenney has held his challengers at bay on day three of Targa Tasmania , and holds a comfortable 37 second buffer with two days remaining. Glenney took a 40 second lead into the day over Jim Richards? Porsche 911 GT2, and while the margin has narrowed slightly, he still has a commanding break and is now clearly the man to beat. Another South Australian, Kevin Weeks, driving a Lamborghini Gallardo Superleggera, has moved up to second place after the eight stages around Tasmania?s North West. Richards slipped one place, but is just two seconds further back and very much in the play as Targa heads west to its next stop in Strahan. Fine and dry conditions have helped to ensure that the leading competitors in Targa Tasmania enjoyed a drama free day today. Classic Engine and Bodywork Protection Message From Lucas
2008-04-12 00:00:00
Lucas Oil Products for Classic Cars" > Click on the picture to enlarge Lucas Oil has begun its spring car care marketing push by urging garages to make classic car enthusiasts and second car owners aware of the need to take extra care when starting up their cherished models after the prolonged winter break. Most engine wear is caused in the first few seconds after ignition. After prolonged inactivity, most engine oils drain into the sump. Turning the engine over under such circumstances increases the potential for damage as a result of 'dry starting'. Introducing an oil treatment such as Lucas Heavy Duty Oil Stabilizer proves a money saver. ?It not only provides immediate engine protection now, but all through the summer too. A film of Lucas Heavy Duty Oil Stabilizer remains on the moving parts, keeping them lubricated and eliminating the danger from a 'dry start'. It gives engines the protection they need at start-up,? says Lucas Oil managing director Les Downey. Lucas has ...
