Launching the 2008 cricket season at the Ford County Ground, home of Essex County Cricket Club, Gooch was joined by a Model T from the Essex-based Ford Heritage Collection. This year marks the centenary of the car "that put the world on wheels". From 1908 to 1927, over 16 million Model T cars and trucks rolled off Ford production lines. Pioneering the use of moving production lines, Henry Ford built a complete car in 93 minutes ? meaning one completed vehicle left the line every 10 seconds. The new challenge has been created to encourage the older rally cars back into action and is solely for category 1 cars from before 1968. The opening event was the Red Kite Stages in January and now, after a gap in the calendar, the action resumes with first of three asphalt events in May and June. He recalled the story how he was unable to compete in the original Tour of Britain and instead got James Hunt to drive his Camaro and go on to win the event. When he said, "Right, consider me in for Tour Britannia. I will either find the original car or build a replica", we realised that not only was he serious but that others would react in the same way. As our hero couldn't find anything reasonable in the UK, he bought a Z28 on E-bay from the States. A basket case was duly unloaded from a container some four weeks later, but, undaunted and with time running out, Richard proceeded to make one car out of three donor vehicles. The exhibition will be constantly changing and will feature 80 Porsche cars. I hope we'll see rarities each time we'll visit the museum. Porsche press release: Stuttgart. Once again, Morocco was extraordinarily kind to competitors on the "Classic ", skillfully run as usual by the Rageys family and their team. Leaving behind the miserable and fickle European spring, lovers of old classics have for 15 years enjoyed a peerless welcome and the chance - for one week - to enjoy driving in the old-fashioned way. The 2008 event was no exception. 51 cars started the "Classic" and a further 18 the "Prestige" event. They followed the strident V12 Matra 650 of Pierre Rageys, which opened the road from the start in Rabat to the end of the first leg in Tangiers. The main question: would Lazar/Agostini, winners of the two previous rallies, succeed for a third time? At the end of the first leg, the Ferrari 308 crew held second overall and looked on course to establish a new record.
