It was after a trip to Europe early that year, in June, made attending the 24 Hours of Le Mans Auto Race. I love driving on long tricky and twisty roads in one of my sports cars as fast as I can, if not faster. I am sure all of you as auto (Triumph) lovers know a road with that one curve or two that makes you feel like you are at some exotic race track each time. He recalled the story how he was unable to compete in the original Tour of Britain and instead got James Hunt to drive his Camaro and go on to win the event. When he said, "Right, consider me in for Tour Britannia. I will either find the original car or build a replica", we realised that not only was he serious but that others would react in the same way. As our hero couldn't find anything reasonable in the UK, he bought a Z28 on E-bay from the States. Once again, Morocco was extraordinarily kind to competitors on the "Classic ", skillfully run as usual by the Rageys family and their team. Leaving behind the miserable and fickle European spring, lovers of old classics have for 15 years enjoyed a peerless welcome and the chance - for one week - to enjoy driving in the old-fashioned way. Heavy rain and strong winds failed to stop die-hard historic motorsport fans enjoying the live action of the Slowly Sideways Group B rally cars at this year?s Race Retro at Stoneleigh Park. Only adding to the fun, rally legends Markku Alen, Bjorn Waldegard and Russell Brookes thrilled the crowds as they slid around the stage. Following a busy first day, the inclement weather on the Saturday and Sunday did impact visitor numbers. Barons MD, Laurence Sayers Gillan, said, "This is the first time we have sold a car for over £100,000, and it marks an important milestone in this, our 10th anniversary year. This rare car headlined our March 18th auction, but bidding in the room didn't quite achieve the desired level. However, we conducted private negotations on behalf of the vendor afterwards, and are delighted to announce that a sale has been agreed. We hope to see many more six-figure sales in the future."
