2009 International Autojumble Review
2009-09-23 18:48:00 Warm sunshine all weekend, for this year?s International Autojumble, sponsored by Classics Monthly and held in the grounds of the National Motor Museum on the 12th & 13th September, gave the event a real holiday atmosphere. The biggest problem was persuading people to leave at the end of the show! The popularity of the Autojumble, the largest in Europe, shows no sign of waning and demand for stand spaces increased again this year, resulting in a best ever number of 2,102 stands and 278 cars for sale in the Automart and Dealermart. There were also a record number of overseas exhibitors, coming from as far afield as Eastern Europe, Australia, Japan and North America. Advance tickets sales were also up this year and large numbers of jumblers were eagerly waiting on both days for the doors to open. Saturday was exceptionally busy, Sunday a little less so and total show numbers were 38,500. This was 2,000 up on 2008 and matched the 2006 show numbers, the best since 1992. Large ... Classic Motor Show embraces youngtimers
2009-09-23 18:48:00 The classic car industry has been one of the few beacons of good news amid the financial doom and gloom of the recession. However, as blue-chip classics have increased in value they have had a similar effect on other classic cars as more people search for cars that they can afford. So this increased demand has seen newer cars welcomed into the classic fold, and this year?s Classic Motor Show has a first-rate line up of what the Germans call ?Youngtimers? and we call retro cars. Club Peugeot UK will be bringing along a couple of 304s ? a coupé and estate ? plus a monstrous GpB 205 T16 rally special and its equally famous smaller brother, a 205 GTI. Autobahnstormers will be showing cars which have already practically disappeared from Britain?s roads ? a Monza GS/E, Carlton 3000GSI and a mighty Lotus Carlton. The MR2 Drivers? Club meanwhile, will be celebrating 25 years of Toyota?s mid-engined sports car. Joining established Seventies fast Fords, such as the great AVO MkI Escort Mex...

2009-09-23 18:48:00 The Goodwood Revival ? which takes place in just 10 days time, from 18-20 September, will be a weekend of celebration, as it marks two important 50th anniversaries. It?s half a century since Goodwood staged arguably its single most famous race, the 1959 Tourist Trophy, in which Aston Martin won the World Sportscar Championship; and it?s also 50 years since the launch of probably the UK?s most iconic passenger car, the Mini. Both anniversaries will be marked in unique Goodwood Revival style. The Revival is set to build on its record-breaking success last year, offering visitors of all ages a chance to revel in the romance and glamour of motor racing as it used to be. It is the only sporting event in the world set entirely to a period theme and, every year, spectators and competitors take a magical step back in time by getting into the effervescent Goodwood spirit. The majority of visitors dress in appropriate clothing from the 1940s, 1950s and 1960s, considering it all part of t... More About: Event , Schedule
Shaw ready for Roger Albert Clark Rally return
2009-09-23 18:48:00 Martin Shaw and Ian Prout will contest the 2009 Roger Albert Clark Rally in Shaw's well-known Ford Escort Mk2, and Shaw says that the event is the closest rally to the original Lombard RAC Rally he tackled three times in the 1990s. "The entry is in and the team is keen to do it again," said the Huddersfield-based driver, who tackled the Roger Albert Clark for the first time in 2008 in his 1400cc Escort Mk2. "We committed to this year's event right at the start," said Shaw, who competed on the Lombard RAC Rally in 1994, 1995 and 1996 in a Lada. "The Roger Albert is the nearest you can get to that event. We marshalled on the earlier Roger Alberts and my service crew was really keen to do the event. Last year we got round with barely putting a spanner on the car." For Prout,...
