My Antique Booth is on Autopilot now - 4 Tips for Part Time Business Owners
2007-08-08 14:07:00 The Antique Booth that my fiancee and I run has been up and down all summer. June was a spectacular month for us and we had some very good revenue and sold a lot of items. July seemed to be great for everyone else in the shop but we missed the boat, not even making enough to cover rent. Now August is here and I’m learning a little more and we are starting to do better again. Here’s my quick Tip list for anyone looking to start this kind of business: Find a store/mall/market with good marketing. You don’t want to have to give the antique mall a cut of everything you sell (usually 10-12%) and not have them add any value or get anyone in the door. If you really want to do well, add and remove a few items from your booth at least once a week. Every weekend I’ve re-arranged the booth, I’ve sold something. Weekends I haven’t are very hit or miss. Get to know the dealers that are there often as well as those working there. A little networking can go a... More About: Business , Tips , Autopilot , Time , Part

The Tax Dilemma: Who will pay taxes and who will vote in 08
2007-08-01 14:09:00 I’ve been mulling the federal tax system around in my head the past few days. I’ve started reading the FairTax Book by Neal Boortz and John Linden. Do Money Saving Energy Tips work? Power Bill Revisited
2007-07-31 14:17:00 Last month you may remember me getting very serious with my power usage after my monthly bill topped $430. Well, round two of this bout has arrived (the fight to cut power is not won or lost in one round) and my opponent weighs in at $362.93 this month. This is a reduction of about 17% which isn’t too shabby. I imagine at least half of it is that the meter wasn’t read two months ago, leading to a ‘build up’ on the bill for last month. Still, July is usually one of the top 2 months of the year cost wise for power use. It’s a good start, but I have a few things I still want to do to take the fight to the power man. I need to put new weather-stripping up on the door that is used most often. It is falling away and looks pretty raggedy. I still need to go around and re-caulk any obvious holes I can find. Since the fiancee is home most of the day working on other projects now that she has moved into more of a freelance life, I can’t fiddle with the th...
