The Country that banned Internet
2006-12-02 01:31:04
This is a satellite image from United States Defense Secretary Donald H. Rumsfeld during an Oct. 11 briefing. The image showed the two Koreas ? North and South ? photographed at night.   “The South Korea was illuminated from coast to coast, suggesting that not just lights, but that other, arguably more bedrock utility of the modern age ? information ? was pulsating through the population.”   “The North Korea was black.”   “While other restrictive regimes have sought to find ways to limit the Inter net ? through filters and blocks and threats ? North Korea has chosen to stay wholly off the grid.”   “North Korea is an impoverished country where televisions and radios are hard-wired to receive only government-controlled frequencies. Cellphones were banned outright in 2004. In May, the Committee to Protect Journalists in New York ranked North Korea No. 1 ? over also-rans like Burma, Syria and Uzbekistan ? on its list o...

Michael Backman vs Rafidah Aziz
2006-12-02 01:31:04
Mich ael Back man is back.   Started with “While Malaysia fiddles, its opportunities are running dry”, he is now  coming back with another interesting and controversial post criticizing Rafidah Aziz, Malaysia’s Minister for Trade and Industry.   Some highlights of Michael Backman’s  ;new article, “Malaysia bites back and industriously trades the insults” : “The minister, Rafidah Aziz, declared somewhat imperiously that she didn’t care what I said because I am a foreigner and I probably don’t know much about Malaysia anyway.”   “Rafidah added to her remarks about my column that no Malaysian should say such things……. But then the idea that Malaysians cannot comment publicly about how their country is run but a non-Malaysian can, is disgraceful.“   “Perhaps Rafidah needs to be reminded who pays her salary.”   “…recent UN f...
Getting IELTS Result Tomorrow
2006-12-01 04:38:05
Having sat for the English exam 2 weeks ago, I’m getting my result in tomorrow morning. IELTS is not easy, I don’t expect to pass with flying colors. Just simply an overall band 6.5  with no individual band lower than 6, is suffice to me. However, it is good to know that IELTS awarding body has abolished the rule about banning candidate from resitting exam within 3 months after first attempt. It is generally known that February intake is a better intake compared to July’s in Australian universities. Therefore, I had been working very hard all the way to fight for time. Getting a nice A Levels forecast. choosing subject, sending application, and sitting for IELTS, while I was having classes still in A Levels.   Having a rest after completing Pre-U course, taking a break for soul searching, and attending all kinds of career talks,  sound great. However, maybe not everyone has the luxury of time. Spent ha...

Branding or Bureaucracy
2006-12-01 04:38:05
I saw this BMW advertisement today. At the right bottom, it was written “BMW,  voted the favorite car in France.” In the advertisement, a French “Road Authority officer”, had given fines to all those overtime cars behind BMW. However, the officer was trying to pay for the overtime BMW. A quite nice ads in illustrating that French likes BMW.   After watching BMW ads, it reminded me about  this YouTube video by Malaysian, that I had watched a few months ago. Having similar theme with the BMW ads,  the only difference was that, the latter wasn’t just an ads, but a reality in Malaysia. ( For RSS readers, the video link is here. )   Trying to differentiate them by Brand ing and Bureaucracy , for  the former ads and the latter video, they were all alike. I looked from BMW to Malaysian’s, and from Malaysian’s to BMW...

The Coolest Art of Paper Cutting

Yes, this is just a piece of paper. I seriously feel that with this kind of cool craftsmanship, this video can be used as an advertisement for scissors. Does this guy have talent? I don’t know, but I’m very sure that he has a lot of time. The following video is a slide show of his complete collection. TIME Magazine remembers Mahathir
2006-12-01 04:38:05
“…there is one road in Putrajaya that is different. Although the path affords a telescopic view of the onion-domed citadel that is the new prime-ministerial office, this strip of asphalt is mysteriously overgrown with weeds and scrub. No gleaming skyscrapers have taken root here. Only one building stands forlornly at the road’s dead end: the office of former Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad, the man whose two-decade building spree turned Malaysia into an economic tiger and whose grandiose dream included the construction of Putrajaya itself. The irony for the 81-year-old Mahathir must be overwhelming: Is this really how the story of one of Asia’s modernizing forces is to conclude, at the dead end of an unkempt road in the futurist metropolis he created? …” Being an avid reader of TIME magazine, I have read this article a few weeks ago through my subscription. Published in TIME magazine dated 6 November 2006, I recently found out that th...

Renault vs Petronas
2006-12-01 04:38:05
“If You Can Make It There, You Can Make It Everywhere”, an inspirational ads from one of the German car manufacturers owning a Formula-1 team, Renault .   I have a suggestion for our Petr o nas sponsored F1 team, the newly formed BMW Sauber in this year. (previously known as Sauber Petronas ) If they were to advertise also, try this:“If you can make it there, you have been spending taxpayers’ money all the way.”   Taking 90 Hectares of precious natural land, spending RM286 million, to build this Sepang F1 Circuit. Yes, Malaysia Boleh. We are the FIRST country in the South East Asia to have a Formula 1 track, second in Asia, with Japan being the first. While our education sector doesn’t even has enough fund, to train sufficient amount of required engineers and experts. Building wonders by paying and using foreign technology and expertise, what’s the d...

Malaysian Chinese Dilemma: Good Thing gets Better
2006-12-01 04:38:05
The original article by Disillusioned Rebel was good. However, I found out that what Mamakk comment about that post, was even better. Short and precise. It has just struck a cord with me, saying that “Damn it, that is so true!” “IMHO, by creating more barriers to education, business, etc for the Chine se , it only strengthened them. Now, it?s the norm for all middle-class Chinese families to send their children overseas for further education. And when they do come back, with a prestigious degree, a wider outlook of the world and a deep resolve to continue to better themselves, to expect no sympathy and handouts, can you really blame them for doing better and them feeling proud about their achievements? Even worse, when they get back home after a day?s hard work and switch on the TV: they see politicians asking them to go back to China if they don?t like it here, they see politicians threatening to use the keris, they see double-standards in t...

We have stopped the Fake iPod Nano Seller
2006-12-01 04:38:05
With the publication of Gizmodo, mamakk, and thousands of updated and tech savvy blogs, we had created a massive public pressure on this pirated iPod  Nano seller, “Double Click”. And he has decided to close the aforementioned deal in Low Yat Forum.   Being a Low Yat Forum member,  I have sent “Double Click” a link for my today post. This is an apology message from the seller, “Double Click”, replying me through forum system.   I sincerely hope that, this is putting an end to the issue.Besides that, “Double Click” is now selling ORIGINAL GeForce graphic cards and some beautiful laptop skins. Compared to those illegal stuff, this sounds far better.   Yes, I am quite happy today.Through this issue, bloggers have taught me about THE POWER OF JOURNALISM.      For related posts : Apple iPod vs Epal iPod, Mamakk’s blog abo...

$38Million, Volkswagen Cold & Climate Center
2006-11-11 10:54:02
Dr. Wolfgang Bernhard, Chairman of the Volkswagen , has just opened a Cold & Climate Cent er in its Wolfsburg plant on Monday.  The new center, which cost about 38 million dollars, is designed for comprehensive testing under a great variety of climatic conditions at temperatures ranging from -40 to +150 degrees Celsius (-40 to 302 degrees F). Even direct solar radiation, humidities up to 95 percent, elevations up to 3000 meters and extreme wind blast can all be simulated.   “The new cold and climate test center will significantly reduce development times for our new models because we will be able to conduct a much wider range of tests in our labs,” said Chairman Bernhard. “Our engineers will be able to analyze and optimize development vehicles faster. This will save time and money and make for even higher quality.” Looking at all those photos, I start to question about the relevancy of the Volkswagen testing center. Is it necessary to i...

Chicago Protester burnt himself to Death
2006-11-11 10:54:02
I have tried to get a YouTube video on this, but had no luck on it. Perhaps bypassers were too frightened to witness this unexpected event at rush hour on Friday, near the Ohio Street exit on the Kennedy.  Self -burning is not a new thing by protestors. In Asian countries, we have a great variety of precedents. For the most recent one, it’s the Taiwan’s protest against their president, Chen Shui Bian. Chen Shui Bian is alleged for involving in multi-billion-dollar corruption. However, self burning is deemed to be more to a slogan than a statement. The protesters are always being stopped or rescued before they have completed their suicidal act.  The amazing part about this Chicago guy, Malachi Ritscher, is that he really made it in a big city at rush hour. Furthermore, he seems to be “well prepared” for his death. He had written his own suicide note and his own obituary, and had them p...

The New Yorker that sells garbage
2006-11-11 10:54:02
We always say United States is the land of opportunity. There are success stories in each and every corner in the city. Today, I would like to introduce you a guy called Justin Gignac, who sells garbage of New York City. Yes, he sells GARBAGE to all people around the world! Putting New York City trash into clear plastic cases, signed and dated, he is selling each finest select pieces of “garbage” for US Dollar $50. You may think that he is ridiculous, but he has sold more than 700 boxes of those “garbage”. And frankly, I would like to have one also. If you really can’t stand this kind of crap, at least his business is really doing the city a favor, he is cleaning up the streets of New York City. In United States, we have witness so many business miracles and have heard so many inspirational true stories about how those determined people have turned “Impossible” into “IR...

Paolo Nutini : Young and Talented
2006-11-11 10:54:02
Born in Scotland, Paolo Nutini is a 19 years old talented boy. While I was watching his video, I burst into laughing, because his slang and his voice just weren’t what I was expecting. (His father is Italian, his mother is Glaswegian.)  However, after a few ten seconds, I started to take him serious, his voice is so soulful and his songs are really great.   This is a music video for his song “Last Request“. If you don’t like his song, hopefully you will at least enjoy watching the robbery, hahaha…   Here is an acoustic performance for his song, “These Streets” that I love the most. (Erm, I’m planning to ask Esther, a former chairman of guitar club, to teach me how to play this, hahaha…)   This is an interview of Paolo Nutini. For further details about Paolo Nutini, it’s here.  Tags: Paola+Nutini, Artist

Why I dislike Male Pharmacist in Malaysia
2006-11-11 10:54:02
Who is the president of United States? George Bush. It’s so easy, right? Who was the president of China? Hu Jintao. it’s simple, right? Who is the richest guy in the world? Bill Gates. it’s commonly known, right?   Now, let me ask you, Who is the vice president of United States? Who is the vice president of China? Who is the second richest guy in the world?   How many of us, can answer the first question? Maybe 70% people can come out with the name “Richard Cheney“ How about the second and third question? How many can answer? Not much. Really Not much.   Why we can simply remember George Bush, Bill Gates and Hu Jintao? However, most of the people find it reasonably hard, to come out with the names of people that ALMOST play the same roles like Bush, Gates, and Hu?   Is it because those people are insignificant? No. They are also great people. They also play important roles that determine the ...

5 Million views? Free Hugs
2006-11-11 10:54:02
Found this video in YouTube, it’s pretty cool and touching. Till this moment, it has been viewed for more than 5 Millions times, and it’s still growing. This reminds me about Mother Theresa’s quote: “Maybe there are  millions of people out there need a slice of bread, but there are far even more just need a little more concern, care, and love.” It’s quite long, it may take you 1 to 2 minutes to fully load the video. Just go and make a coffee or tea, then it will be ready.    Tags: YouTube, Free +Hugs , All+The+Same, Sick+Puppies

The Road Not Taken (Part 2)
2006-11-11 10:54:02
Two roads diverged in a yellow wood, And sorry I could not travel both. And be one traveler, long I stood And looked down one as far as I could, To where it bent in the undergrowth;   Then took the other, as just as fair, And having perhaps the better claim, Because it was grassy and wanted wear; Though as for that the passing there, Had worn them really about the same,   And both that morning equally lay, In leaves no step had trodden black. Oh, I kept the first for another day! Yet knowing how way leads on to way, I doubted if I should ever come back.   I shall be telling this with a sigh, Somewhere ages and ages hence: Two roads diverged in a wood, and I? I took the one less traveled by, And that has made all the difference.   Poem above is  The Road Not Take n by Robert Frost, which always in my mind these days.    Have you ever heard of… Anderson said, business degree is common and useless. Beckham&n...
